True. A friend of mine years ago was on the wrong end of an armed robbery.

He was a "tough" guy so, even if he saw the guy had a 9mm he walked right to him and said something like "stop joking around and get out of my shop!"... well, the robber didn't like the comment and shoot him on the leg. My friend kept walking toward him like nothing had happened, so the robber ran away.

Only after a few minutes he started feeling "heat" were he had been shot and noticed the bullet hole (fortunately it didn't hit any vital blood vessels). Anyway, all this is to say people most times don't realize how little a 9mm bullet is and unless it goes through some vital organ, you won't even feel the impact.

On the other hand, a wooden arrow with a stone point, even if it's slower and less reliable to fire, hits like a punch and can mess whatever part of your body it goes into!

HP 9mm are a whole different story...
^^ this 100%. Have seen a guy get hit in the chest with a 9mil, and it didn't even penetrate the shirts he was wearing. However an arrow has a lot more mass behind it.

Something else to consider is the damage ranges on the weapons.
To compare apples to apples we will use the basic wooden bow, and the pipe pistol. Both of these have fixed values, and are not subject to the randomness of the higher tier versions.

Bow damage range...
="base_add" value="-6"
"perc_add" value=".1,.5"

Pistol damage range...
"base_add" value="-6.4
"perc_add" value=".1,.5"
