You got large quantities of experience both from digging the trench -and- from harvesting the wood to make the spikes in the first place. Plus, The reward of not having to kill every single zombie by hand, and having a barrier of safety wherever you've placed them.

It's unlikely they'll ever make spikes give the player kill exp. It took so many alphas for electrical traps to give some kill exp and only via an intellect perk..And it was only made possible due to recent changes to the electrical objects enabled by the addition of junk turrets; So that the electrical entities are basically functioning as part of your own personal 'party' and can so share to you their exp.

Spike traps on the other hand are just plain blocks; Not entities. There's no real way to make it so they grant you exp that doesnt also make it so -any- zombie death will grant you exp, whether you were involved in any way or not.

This again?

I don't think you're going to get more AFK exp than they've already granted you in a18.

Killing a zombie with a trap is not free exp because that trap did not spawn out of nowhere. You mined the ressources, you built it, you placed it, you lead the zombie into the trap. Deserves exp in my eyes.
It's completely resource-free once placed. The other traps that do give exp require constant maintenance and effort outside of simple repairs.

It's about game balance, and free exp for sitting on your ass doing nothing isn't balanced. High-end traps that require resource input and skill specialization will give exp. Simple traps you can place from Day 1 don't.
