Only problem with the joke is that a lot of people make statements like this with 100% seriousness pretty regularly.

I don't want to start a derivative off topic conversation or argument, so bear this with that grain of salt in mind that I am expressly making the following statement as an example... It'd be a lot like if you walked into a room and joked that you believe the earth is flat. You might genuinely be joking- But a frightening number of people actually believe that it is, or at least maintain the front that they do; So the result of walking into a room and saying that as a joke is going to be that people take you seriously- For better, or worse. Because enough people actually believe that it's true, and to assume or conclude the statement is a joke with no other context clues is far more likely to insult an actual believer than to get a laugh out of the jokester.

If you're going to walk into a room and make a statement like that as a joke, You deeefinitely need to include a tone indicator, like /j /jk or /s, so people know it's meant as a joke -before- they reply to it thinking it's a serious statement.
