i’m not going to say anthem is a perfect game. it’s not. but it’s got tremendous potential and already has an extremely strong jumping off point that i am in love with. a lot of player complaints over the early access period are 100% valid. but a lot of those complaints have been answered by the day one patch. the load screen problem post patch has been greatly exaggerated. at least on ps4.
another valid issue is fort tarsis. sometimes seeing all those speech bubbles on my compass makes me want to take a nap. bioware clearly spent a ton of time and effort trying to fully realize tarsis and it does feel more involved than what I would personally want from a looter shooter. all that being said, i’ve actually come to sort of love the idea of fort tarsis, or rather what it represents. bioware clearly poured their heart into it and the down-and-out, underdog, go-get’em optimism of its residents not only really represents what the game is all about, but shows just how committed bioware is to fully executing their vision for this game. tarsis really is the soul of the game, I just wish it was more fluidly integrated into the phenomenal gameplay.
the final complaint I hear a lot is the lack of an endgame. I can’t really speak to this since i’m not there yet, but based on bioware’s already rapid response to fan feedback, and looking at how games like destiny, diablo III, and the division all grew into themselves post launch, I can’t wait to see anthem develop over the coming months.
so all those criticisms taken into account, what are we left with? an absolutely f*cking beautiful world with razor sharp gunplay based on four rpg paradigms that are all realized in their own unique (and spectacularly fun) ways.
so i look at rags like PC Gamer rate this gem of a game lower than Fallout 76 and IGN giving it a measly 60 and all I can do is scratch my head and assume this is a case of reviewer group think. these reviews even acknowledge the amazing graphics and excellent gameplay, yet rate it as a broken product. a lot of people are hopping on the hate bandwagon and it’s dumb as hell. the internet’s favorite thing to do is hate things and it seems like anthem has fallen victim to that mindset.
in the end tho, it doesn’t matter. I see so many freelancers on this sub just as in love with this little beauty as I am and I know anthem is going to be just fine. keep up the great work, bioware. the freelancers are behind you 100%.
Strong alone, stronger together.
tl;dr: ignore the haters, this game owns.
edit: I just wanted to add that a game like this really thrives on constructive criticism so I think people should definitely keep the observations and suggestions coming, but please remember to be polite and keep your feedback detailed and thoughtful.
edit #2: people complaining they “only” got 20 hours of entertainment out of their $60 game that’s going to be getting free updates for years got me lollin’.
