425s major season one update coming up for
427s age of empires four
429s yeah titled the festival of ages cause
432s we've got a lot and lots of number of
434s exciting additions and new features
437s which we'll chat more of but yeah so
439s yeah so this is our upcoming 1.3 update
443s this is our biggest it's our first major
446s content update for age of empires 4 for
447s the year and we're excited to get to
449s show you what we've got coming uh we're
451s gonna touch very briefly on a number of
453s things on this stream we and we hope to
454s have even more details for you in the
456s very near future but we wanted to get
458s this going because we put out the
460s official announcement of this update on
462s our blog today and there is also a shiny
465s new trailer uh but before we jump into
468s that we do have a number of guests
470s joining us today from different teams
472s over on the relic side here this is we
473s got a nice a nice few familiar faces and
476s one who you probably haven't seen all
477s too often here so we've got there we go

694s of ages uh there's a lot out there for
697s you to explore a lot of different things
699s as you saw in the trailer there are
701s ranked seasons the age of empires for
703s content editor which is launching in
704s beta mod support seasonal events and
706s even more so there's a lot a lot of
709s content and it's really exciting
711s uh as well briefly mentioned before
715s this is the first stream we are doing
718s for this version 1.3 update part of this
720s as we reveal more content and as we
722s actually launch into the season itself
724s we're going to be having a number of
726s streams
727s uh actually we're gonna do streams
729s basically every friday with the
730s exception of if their fall is a holiday
732s we'll probably miss those hey grant

922s the big one ranked seasons this is huge
926s and i know chat a lot of you are like
928s frank season's finally here what are
929s ranked seasons all of this we have a lot
931s of information for you on ranked seasons
932s that's going to be coming out in the
934s next few days here
935s but the first ranked season itself is
937s going to launch shortly after the 1-3
940s release it's not going to be the same
942s day
942s basically what we want to do is we want
944s to make sure once the 1-3 update is out
945s that everything is stable everything is
947s good before we kick this off because a
948s season is a very
950s it's a longer event we want people to be
952s able to get in have the challenge and
953s have fun playing with it so we want to
955s make sure everything is as perfect as
956s possible before we launch this it will
958s be very shortly after the 1-3 release
961s though
962s um yeah
964s this so right seasons over a short
966s period of time actually not not that
968s short you'll find out in a little bit
969s but over a period of time you'll be
971s playing ranked matches and move up in
973s rankings as you try to get different
974s rewards um as you make your path to
976s victory this is what elliot mentioned of
977s reaching conqueror that's his that's his
979s goal getting those conqueror rewards no
981s no no no no let's make it clear
984s gold i'm gonna try to hit gold that will
986s be my goal that that'll be the goal for
988s me i don't know that conqueror there
989s looks pretty nice you can you can go
991s guys like i said starting low let's keep
993s the expectations low because then if i
995s over achieve it's a great success right

1019s soon but this is it's gonna be a fun way
1021s for you to face off against each other
1023s and see where you stand on the
1025s leaderboards a little bit more than just
1026s normal ranked just normal play so we'll
1029s see where you follow the season and
1030s you'll be rewarded nicely for it
1033s uh
1034s and this is something actually for those
1036s who are on the pup build there this is
1038s something that they've been checking out
1040s there's definitely those on the pub
1043s convention pop what is the pup because
1045s for those who don't know are tuning in
1047s why don't you tell us eliot let us know
1048s yeah uh it is the public update preview
1051s which actually concluded on march 28th
1053s um we did extend it out but it was a
1056s chance for people to jump in and see and
1058s preview the build um similar to the
1060s other age titles
1061s uh and also we it helped us gather
1063s feedback and see where if there were any
1065s issues any bugs and that kind of stuff
1067s so it's something that um we're
1069s definitely gonna take advantage of and
1070s use uh down the road but obviously we uh
1074s close that up because
1076s we have this major season one update
1078s coming
1079s very soon yeah so everyone in the pub
1081s they all got to take a look at some of
1083s this early and help shape
1084s shape things let us know their feedback
1086s all of that uh as ellie mentions we'll
1087s probably do pups in the future as well
1089s so stay tuned um and yeah that brings us
1092s to where we are seasons here
1093s uh um and conkin there's some questions
1096s coming up i don't know if you wanna feel
1098s it but uh some people are wondering uh
1100s if we can talk about how many placement
1101s matches are required for us to get into
1105s your initial rank when you're playing
1106s maybe i'll should i give a a a breakdown
1109s of frank since just for those who
1110s haven't sure yeah
1113s just before we hop into that i just want
1114s to again remind everyone we're giving
1116s some bigger bigger picture details here
1118s with more specific breakdowns we'll be
1119s coming in the near future but definitely
1121s konkan you can give us a run through of
1122s what to expect
1124s okay so here's the the pitch so rank
1126s seasons is a new cube that caters to
1128s competitive play right so after five
1131s placement matches you'll be given a rank
1133s like bronze silver gold plastic whatever
1137s and that'll serve as a benchmark for
1140s your skill so
1142s instead of you know sweating it out in
1143s the in the elo leaderboards which will
1145s still be there you'll still be able to
1146s compete on the eli leaderboards in quick
1148s match and also in the ranked queue
1151s but you'll have sort of a tangible rank
1152s that you can
1154s you can work at and
1156s and share with other players as well so
1158s that's that's one component and then it
1160s also by creating this other space
1163s it allows us to make
1165s changes independently for competitive
1167s players as well versus um
1170s a bit more casual quick play right so
1172s um as an example there'll be a smaller
1174s map pool right we're just going to have
1177s all tie dry arabia high view hillendale
1180s lipany and mongolian heights and that's
1183s it at launch we're just going to start
1184s with a small competitive map queue
1187s and we can sort of tune uh that
1189s experience a little bit more to
1191s competitive players
1194s that's kind of it
1196s i uh so i was like on the on the puppet
1199s and playing the stuff and trying it out
1201s and i really love that sort of like ui
1203s you guys have to represent the five
1206s different wins and losses you wanna
1207s maybe talk a little bit about that real
1209s quick michael yeah it's pretty it's hard
1211s hard to describe without seeing it on
1213s screen but um the art team did a pretty
1216s fantastic job of sort of
1218s it creates this like emblem with five
1220s notches and if you win one it becomes a
1222s little bit more gold and if you lose one
1224s it
1225s becomes red and so it sort of describes
1227s your your journey to your placement um
1230s and then once you get placed you'll see
1231s one of the badges that are up on screen
1232s right now
1234s yeah we had very briefly in the trailer
1236s for those who are watching this you can
1237s actually see that come up it does show
1238s as like a bit of an overlay on the
1239s trailer of the different placements
1241s there's basically it looks like five
1242s circles around it that either that will
1244s stay gold or turn red uh depending on
1246s your placement
1247s there there's also going to be rewards
1250s um for competing in ranked seasons right
1252s can we talk about that a little bit yeah
1254s 100 i mean i see three things on the
1256s bottom of this screenshot here a coat of
1258s arms portraits and monuments those are
1259s those are things right
1261s things
1262s yeah so if you complete your five
1263s placement matches if you if you hit any
1265s rank so even if you're down in bronze um
1268s you'll get a bundle of of stuff that we
1270s hope you'll like um that kind of shows
1272s off what rank you got and um we're
1275s really going to be keeping a close eye
1277s on the feedback we get from that to kind
1279s of inform
1280s what rewards we do in the future and um
1284s you know look into adding new types of
1285s rewards as well
1289s awesome yeah so that's ranked seasons
1291s there's there's a lot there and i am
1294s sure many of you are going to spend a
1295s decent amount of time going through
1296s there seeing where you end up and we'll
1298s be watching where elliot ends up as well
1301s but there is a counterside two-ranked
1303s seasons as well for those who might not
1305s want to hop in the rank play is seasonal
1307s events
1308s and these are these are really exciting
1309s because they give you a different way to
1311s earn rewards other than playing in
1313s ranked matches
1314s this runs over the course of the season
1315s as well
1316s they'll be different
1318s different durations different like
1319s different segments of them so they'll be
1320s different like different chunks so let's
1322s say season one one season two three and
1324s four is like periods where you do
1326s different challenges and these could be
1328s just regular gameplay things you do on a
1330s day-to-day basis and you'll earn
1332s different rewards as well so in addition
1334s to doing ranked matches and playing in
1336s the ranked season you also have these
1337s seasonal events that are
1339s essentially challenges or tasks you can
1341s complete for additional rewards and
1342s these are different rewards than you get
1344s from the ranked season
1347s yeah so
1349s they're really intended to be for
1350s everyone right so they're not going to
1351s be very grindy um but they kind of
1354s encourage you to try out uh something
1356s new that we're adding in in the update
1358s um
1359s i guess like to shout out a bit of a
1362s teaser if you kill a king in royal
1365s rumble that might be one event that you
1367s get a reward for so it's really just
1369s about getting into the game and and
1370s trying out the new stuff that we have to
1372s offer
1373s now what is royal rumble michael
1376s royal rumble is a
1378s mod uh mod created created by our team
1382s and uh downloadable from the new mods
1385s tab once that is available
1387s it's almost like you knew where we're
1389s going with the discussion and decided to
1390s delete us right over there i'm all about
1392s the segway
1394s yeah so mods that is also a very
1398s very exciting feature and that brings us
1400s to the next topic our content editor
1402s which is the hr empire's four content
1403s editor which is launching as as a beta
1406s at this point
1407s but those of you again from the pup
1409s they've had some access they've gotten
1410s to play around with it a little a little
1412s bit as well it's a very exciting tool
1415s and it's it's going to allow you to
1416s customize basically how you play age
1418s vampires for you can design and create
1420s your own maps mods and all sorts of
1422s different things in there
1424s yeah there's actually four types of mods
1426s that you can make you can make game
1428s modes which is what michael's talking
1429s about with royal rumble which is very uh
1432s similar to registered mode
1434s but you can also make maps there's two
1436s types of maps you can make crafted maps
1438s for example which you can perfectly
1440s sculpt and design exactly as you would
1442s like and then there's generated maps
1444s which are similar to maps like arabia or
1447s mountain pass which are random every
1449s time and then there's also tuning packs
1451s as the fourth type of mod you can make
1452s where you can edit the data in the game
1455s so you can for example make trebuchets
1457s shoot sheep or you could make mongol
1460s villagers cost 500 foods so that they're
1462s fair and balanced
1463s those poor poor sheep
1466s you can do whatever you like is the
1467s point and it's actually really awesome
1470s to see what people have been able to do
1472s already um in the pub
1474s we've had the ugc tools available for
1477s people to try out
1478s and it's just amazing to see what
1480s they've done i mean when you think about
1482s where age of empires has has come
1485s and how so much of it has been
1487s contributed by modders we've had things
1489s like capture age in the past and we've
1490s got forgotten empires that started out
1492s as a mod group
1494s it's really exciting that we're opening
1495s the door to a modding community in age
1498s four
1499s seeing what they can come up with is
1500s going to be great and so far we've seen
1503s tons of really awesome stuff too um so
1506s for example um age of noob he made a
1508s video recently highlighting some of the
1510s different lighting that you could put on
1512s the maps i don't know if any of you guys
1513s saw that um but putting that sort of
1515s evening golden glow into the map was
1518s awesome and he even made it night time
1520s which was yeah pretty special and i'm
1522s sure people will be making some great
1524s stuff with that and we showed out the
1526s aoe for the unofficial aoe4 modding
1528s discord because it is amazing like we've
1531s all been creeping it and there's a
1532s showcase channel uh that i'd encourage
1534s anyone who's interested to check out
1536s um people are just blowing our minds
1538s with what they're they're making with
1539s the one caveat that it is unofficial but
1541s that sounds yeah that's totally fine
1543s it's awesome to see what the community
1544s can build and modding is such a big
1545s thing i think encouraging it in whatever
1547s way possible is is great for us
1549s and for people to go see what they're
1550s making you might get ideas of something
1551s for you to make as well
1554s uh yeah
1555s it's a great place to just see what
1557s people are doing and then you know sort
1559s of get ideas for yourself we've even
1561s seen sort of custom maps being made
1563s already um inspired by age of empires
1565s classic maps so someone's in there
1567s making maps like four lakes and socatra
1570s or atacama for example
1572s that thing oh yeah we've seen a forest
1574s nothing it's it's all coming the
1576s floodgates are open so yeah uh i'm
1578s really excited for this do you have a
1580s favorite from the pup sack
1583s oh that's a really good question because
1584s there's like a really broad range of
1586s stuff right um one of the things that i
1588s thought was really creative actually was
1590s the realistic scale uh mod where uh
1593s someone shrunk down all of the units so
1595s that they were to scale with the
1596s doorways of the buildings and it's just
1598s kind of cool to see the game that
1600s different perspective not something that
1602s i think i would play with but certainly
1604s cool to look at yeah the the unit
1606s scaling especially i think there was a
1607s screenshot floating around at night time
1609s as well with like the torches letting up
1610s the side of the building that was really
1612s cool i i was a sucker for the nostalgia
1614s mod that reintroduced all the awful bugs
1617s we shipped with the couple of awful bugs
1619s that we took
1620s ding ding did did that make it in there
1623s ding ding that's that's if that's an
1624s automotive that has to be one that's
1626s going to be a mod it's got to be i might
1628s have to get started with modding just to
1629s make that happen
1631s oh my goodness
1634s uh yeah so
1635s not only with the pup but our team has
1637s also been playing around with this
1638s editor and testing it out as well uh so
1641s when when it does launch when mods in
1643s the ugc tool launch with this one three
1645s update there will be some initial mods
1647s populated for you to check out from our
1648s team as well as we'll be continuing to
1650s watch and seeing as new mods from the
1652s community are created and uploaded there
1653s so that's the nice thing is
1654s you can create your mods you can share
1656s them people can download them you can
1657s all check them out together
1658s all yeah which is absolutely amazing
1661s and anyone who's been working on these
1662s mods since the pop as well they'll be
1664s able to re-upload those so
1666s i think we're going to have a lot of
1667s cool stuff right at launch as well
1669s yeah that's awesome and uh as as
1672s mentioned we do have more streams coming
1674s for this and we will be diving more as
1675s well on stream as well as in blog posts
1678s about what this content editor uh and
1680s this and the ugc of how this all works
1682s there so we'll be looking a lot more in
1684s depth probably taking a look at some
1686s mods that people have actually made so

1689s if you are into making mods if it's
1691s really interesting and it's amazing we
1692s may show it on stream at some point

1707s now that being said um we

1713s but the two other stuff that's coming

1730s love the love uh so there are two new
1732s stuff that is coming along with the
1734s update a brand new art of war challenge
1737s called advanced combat
1739s conkin i don't know if you have a
1740s one-liner or something for that but i
1742s know that your team was the one that was
1743s working on that so
1745s my team didn't build that one but i i
1746s will show them out too that yeah it's uh
1749s the wrong one wrong team sorry
1751s it is the extension of um the basic
1754s combat art of war that that uh we
1756s shipped with so it's really cool check
1759s it out it's the next step to um step up
1762s your game
1763s yeah funny enough it's called advanced
1765s combat so uh that will be the next art
1767s of war challenge that you could take on
1769s to try to get gold um i am sad to say
1772s that the basic combat it's my only
1773s bronze one i think everything else i've
1775s gotten gold in so
1776s um i definitely the combat's hard it's
1779s hard yeah it is i have to micro
1781s yeah i want to make it through got a
1783s microphone
1785s guys just this is what i'm saying this
1786s is a precursor to the whole road to rank
1788s let's keep the expectations low because
1789s like
1790s macro game pretty good microgreen
1792s not not so not as good as it used to be
1794s when i was you know
1795s playing a lot more
1797s age of empires and other rts games uh
1800s that being said also there is a fun map
1803s that was done by the dev team that is
1805s i'll call back hallmark to
1807s age two i believe was the first time it
1810s came up which is mega random
1812s um i wonder whether you've never
1815s yeah if you've never played mega random
1817s it basically is
1819s a random variable of starting stuff and
1822s across the map resources
1825s uh and stuff like that it's all
1827s literally random so
1830s uh a great way to jump in create some
1832s chaos get into a fun
1834s uh match with friends with photos with
1836s ai however you like uh that will also be
1839s included in this season one update
1842s we actually on the balance team played
1844s that map quite a bit like it's probably
1846s one of our favorite maps just because
1848s you have like no idea what you're gonna
1850s get like is it gonna be
1851s you know naval is it gonna be just all
1853s land like you've no idea what it's gonna
1855s be and like
1856s the the map spawning algorithm it's like
1859s sometimes you know some players have a
1861s little advantage but we haven't really
1862s like played on it where i was just like
1865s oh this was like completely unfair and i
1866s had no chance of winning like the the ra
1869s it's like it's a randomness but it's
1870s constrained in ways where it does still
1872s like feel fair where it's like an equal
1874s distance between the starting gold mines
1876s and the relics and stuff like that so
1877s yeah it's just a blast you never know
1879s what you're gonna get it's really fun
1881s yeah it's it's it's awesome and it's
1883s never like unreasonably unfair like it's
1885s it's some somehow manages to be like
1888s actually reasonably balanced it's not
1890s something that would be competitive but
1892s you can jump in and you know you're
1894s going to have a really fun game and i
1895s think that's uh they've done a really
1896s good job with mega random

1906s match but that doesn't mean that we
1908s couldn't add it later and we'll kind of

1915s take out maps i believe from the quick
1917s match pool so we can obviously add in
1918s maps so
1920s we will be keeping an eye on a response
1923s to that and just in general all the big

1927s speaking of which segwaying into the
1929s next portion of course a major update
1932s light car seasonal update and for those
1934s who tried out the pup we'll know
1936s is uh it can't be complete without a
1939s huge number of balance changes and game
1941s updates so

1949s little bit about the balance kind of
1951s goals behind this update that we've got
1953s coming up
1954s absolutely i would love to
1957s so
1958s over time we've been trying to uh you
1960s know sort of like get the win weights
1961s closer and closer to that like sort of
1964s you know obviously it would be great if
1965s every civ had exactly 50
1968s uh win rating right but uh you know some
1971s sieves are going to be better on on
1973s different maps like some people you know
1974s are going to be a little bit better on
1975s naval some are a little bit better on
1976s choke points or open maps and stuff like
1978s that so
1980s um our goal is not to get everything
1982s exactly to 50 right we're trying to get
1984s it within that threshold of 45 to 55 so
1988s we want
1989s every match at the start of it no matter
1991s what sieve you are and who you're
1992s playing against you feel like you have a
1994s chance to win or an opportunity you know
1996s if you can play play well and make the
1998s right moves
2000s so
2001s we have we have been getting tighter and
2002s tighter and we're
2003s really excited about all the 1.3 changes
2007s that we have because in general
2009s we're trying to focus on pushing the
2011s sieves at the bottom up with balance
2013s changes to make make them more
2015s competitive and feel like they have
2017s more options and cool
2020s strategies that they can engage so
2023s uh an example that comes to mind is the
2025s english where we see
2027s a lot of english players really focusing
2029s on like building a lot of longbows
2031s because that's their you know sort of
2033s like most powerful iconic unit and they
2035s can build it like right from the
2037s beginning of the game
2038s so
2039s one of the changes we've done with the
2040s english is that they're man at arms
2043s which is you know that it's sort of a
2045s right now it's kind of like a minor
2047s theme in the sieve because they just
2048s have the iron clad upgrade which gives
2050s them plus two armor quite good right um
2052s but we wanted to
2054s encourage more of this sort of like
2055s diversity and force mixing with the
2057s english army so the made in arms now
2059s builds in 15 seconds instead of 22 so
2063s you can really you really crank out an
2065s army of these guys really quickly
2068s and it synergizes also pretty well with
2070s the whole like farming bonus because the
2072s english can get a lot of food and man at
2075s arms have a really high food cost so
2078s we've already seen on the pup people
2080s taking advantage of this and coming up
2082s with some new strategies that we've
2083s never seen before for the english
2084s civilization so
2086s we're definitely definitely really
2087s looking forward to all the cool new
2088s things that players are going to do in
2090s update 1.3
2095s all right yeah and as mentioned there is
2098s a lot a lot more information coming in
2101s the the coming coming days and weeks not
2104s weeks coming days a little bit of time
2105s here as we as we move towards this one
2107s three update and seasons and all of this
2110s uh that also includes the full patch
2112s notes we don't have those for you today
2113s those will be coming in the near future
2116s so you'll be able to take a look at
2117s those when they do come out as well uh
2120s so we don't i know in past streams we've
2121s dived in and kind of gone through the
2123s past notes as they were one by one
2124s talking with the team this was more of
2126s just chatting about what's coming and
2127s some of the like bigger picture these
2129s balance update goals here as well
2131s uh there are that said a lot of updates
2135s in that change in that change list so
2137s you'll get to keep your eye on that
2138s shortly
2140s more things that are coming would it be
2141s okay if i quickly talked about ui stuff
2144s real quick as well
2145s yeah i think that'll be fine because
2147s we've got some exciting things there too
2149s um things that people have been asking
2150s for for a long time uh we're bringing in
2153s a global cue so you can get a an
2156s overview of your production at a glance
2158s at all times while you're playing the
2160s game
2161s which is awesome and a feature that's
2163s loved by many
2164s um we've also got stat card improvements
2167s so you'll be able to see when you get an
2170s upgrade you'll be able to see how much
2171s that upgrade has affected your units
2173s because it will display it as a plus and
2175s then if you've got the blacksmith
2177s upgrade for example it gives you plus
2178s one attack it will show plus one attack
2181s in the ui card when you click on the
2183s unit whereas before it would show the
2186s base value
2188s and then we've got a bunch of updates to
2189s hotkeys as well so you'll be able to
2191s remap your mouse buttons for example
2193s we have a toggle which allows you to set
2196s exclusive control groups so you can have
2198s control group stealing or not depending
2200s on which you prefer
2202s you can also rebind keys like control
2204s shift and alt
2206s we've added a ton of hotkeys such as
2210s cycle through all buildings of a type or
2212s select all buildings of a type we have
2214s camera location hotkeys so i would
2217s really suggest if you're into like all
2219s the hotkey stuff just load up the menu
2221s have a browse there's hundreds of things
2222s in there to bind to your heart's content
2224s and uh we will continue to work on that
2227s in the future as well but looking
2229s forward to hearing feedback about it and
2230s uh yeah getting in in your hands to play
2233s with
2235s we have we have i think more plans for
2237s the future too like that this is sort of
2238s our you know our first first step into
2241s improving the hotkey experience but we
2242s do want to keep making even more
2244s progress in the future but we're we're
2246s pretty excited about this for 1.3 um
2249s another really cool thing i like about
2251s um you're talking about the ui showing
2252s the upgrades and stuff like that um
2255s so it captures the blacksmith upgrades
2256s um and showing you like oh okay i have
2259s plus two armor and another nice part of
2261s that is you can click on the enemy
2262s troops so a real click quick glance you
2265s can tell exactly what the stats are so
2266s you'd be like oh okay you know he's got
2269s he's got two armor and i don't have any
2270s so i don't want to take this fight i
2271s need to like back up and retreat and you
2273s know wait until i have enough time to
2275s bolster my forces
2277s and a cool thing is not only does it
2279s show the bonuses it also shows the
2282s negatives um which there aren't a lot of
2284s penalties but i know the camels are
2286s definitely um
2288s one that comes to mind where you can
2290s actually see it be like oh this has like
2291s -3 damage because the camel aura is
2293s affecting them so it yeah it really
2295s shows off a lot of the the cool
2296s interactions in our game

2309s you're just shocked at what i said i'm
2318s let's see if maybe you'll stay not

2424s uh one uh the big season one update as
2426s long as as well as a whole bunch of
2427s other features so

2431s information there's a reason why we uh
2434s love doing these things because we're
2435s able to talk with you guys and be able
2437s to get uh the information that we need
2439s to make sure that we're making you know
2440s the informed decisions that make sense

2458s editor not only ranked seasons actually
2460s but also seasonal events and some of
2462s these balance changes and we're gonna

2467s here over the next few weeks as we dive
2470s in as the season's running as well where
2471s we show
2473s developer discussions more with the team
2474s like this uh we'll have different
2476s members of the team talking about either
2477s ugc uh rndr which is actually the team
2479s michael conkin is from ritual and
2481s retention as well as other teams these
2482s are just some of the streams we have
2484s planned but they'll be kicking off every
2485s friday at the same time 2 30 p.m pacific
2488s time
2491s uh yeah
2493s it's very exciting to see
2495s this update and to see our festival of
2498s ages season 1 festival of ages launch
2500s here
2504s all right so actually i have a question
2507s for eric and to extension zach as well
2509s um
2510s obviously we've been keeping an eye on
2512s the pup which uh for those again who are
2514s just tuning in that's the public update
2516s preview we had running up until march
2518s 28th um
2520s with that it was a pretty much a preview
2523s of the balance updates and changes that
2524s are coming in with the season one update
2526s was there anything
2528s specific that we've done that is a
2531s balance changer update that caught you
2532s by surprise about how the community
2534s reacted to or or shifted the meta around
2540s uh
2541s well one thing uh
2543s i can add is
2545s uh we
2546s were definitely like watching all the
2548s tournaments and stuff that were
2549s happening right and we sort of have like
2551s a
2552s a lock date for when we're gonna need to
2553s get our changes in um because it you
2555s know it has to be tested and go through
2558s certification and make sure it's not
2559s cause any crashes and you know so
2560s there's like a pretty long process
2562s um so we had a couple of changes
2565s that i would i would term maybe like the
2567s the bart simpson changes where you know
2570s that scene in the opening when the
2571s garage door is is closing and he's
2574s trying to like slide underneath right
2575s and then he like wraps his hat at the
2576s last moment
2578s so we had like that was a couple of
2580s weeks ago yeah
2582s yeah so we had a couple of changes uh
2584s that that zach was able to get to get in
2587s the whole the whole team really uh
2588s hustled up to to work on those based on
2591s like what we were seeing in the
2592s tournaments so
2595s i have some of these that i remember
2597s offhand i have to load up on my screen i
2599s could run through them if you like yes
2601s please zack robinson sure so i mean this
2604s is also this is in response to the pop
2607s so one thing i would say is that if you
2609s what thinking about playing the pub it's
2611s a great way to see what's coming up
2613s before it goes live and it even gives us
2615s time to get feedback and act on it
2617s before we go live as well and some of
2619s these changes are a result of feedback
2621s we got from the pub but also feedback
2623s that we got from tournament organizers
2625s we've seen um n4c of course and the rule
2628s set which they used there
2630s and also now golden league they're using
2632s specific rules and so we have some
2634s changes with those in mind um some of
2636s them being related to stone walls and
2638s stone wall towers for example we
2641s increased the cost of the stonewall
2642s tower from 200 to 300 stone
2645s we also moved the delhi sultanate herbal
2648s medicine to the castle age from the dark
2650s age
2651s and of course those were two of the
2652s major rules from n4c um and we think
2655s that you know these will help to
2658s you know put these things in a better
2659s place where tournaments will consider
2661s using them too
2663s we also reverted one of our original
2665s changes um to the official train time i
2668s think we put out a patch note saying
2669s that the train time would be uh
2672s increased to 30 seconds but we reduced
2674s it back down to 20 in response to some
2676s of that feedback
2678s and we also have a nerf for the delhi
2680s and abbasid orchards as well where when
2683s you place the
2685s mill against the berry bushes it won't
2687s double the food in them but it will just
2689s give a flat plus 100 food so they'll
2691s still have a really powerful strong
2693s bonus but it will be limited in how long
2696s and how much you can get out of it
2701s yeah exactly so so that was based on you
2704s know some of the stuff we were seeing on
2705s the pup and and stuff we had been seeing
2707s on the tournament we were able to just
2708s slide those changes in so we're really
2710s happy to get those
2712s uh kind of in at the last minute um
2714s so it's not that we would never
2716s uh want move stone walls to the to the
2720s castle age um but
2722s we found that one of the biggest
2723s strengths was people were putting these
2724s towers the stonewall towers on top of
2727s them and they were super
2729s super powerful and difficult to deal
2731s with having this sprinkle tower shooting
2733s you
2734s in the feudal age when you didn't have
2736s quite as many you had a very you know a
2737s much smaller army so you didn't have as
2739s many uh capabilities and units to be
2741s able to counter it
2743s um and then another thing that we did as
2746s well is
2747s when your workers are building the
2749s stonewall tower um
2752s they can't immediately just walk up onto
2754s the stone wall and build it from on top
2755s of the stone wall they have to fully
2757s complete the tower before they can get
2758s onto the stone wall so that adds a lot
2761s more counter play and options for you to
2763s be able to stop the enemy from doing
2765s this to you um
2767s because now if you have cavalry you can
2768s just run them around and then kill the
2770s workers that are constructing this
2773s so we wanted to try these changes out
2775s and and see how they feel and we'll
2776s definitely continue to make more tweaks
2778s and monitor the situation but um yeah we
2781s think these will help a lot and we're
2782s pretty excited about these changes and
2784s if i may just one of the biggest changes
2786s probably balance wise in 1.3 uh
2789s buildings under construction will now
2791s take 50 percent more damage so
2793s you have a lot more opportunity to
2795s contest buildings that are being dropped
2797s right outside of your base or something
2799s like that so um we think that'll make a
2801s really big impact as well and it will
2803s increase the risk of these kind of like
2805s tower rush and
2807s you know using defenses offensively uh
2809s that should make a big difference there
2812s yeah definitely
2813s it uh that comes up in like a lot of
2815s different situations too right like
2816s we'll see
2817s a lot of people like tower rushing right
2819s and then it's like well you pull your
2820s villagers and you can kind of push them
2822s away from the tower
2824s but then it like takes too long to
2826s actually kill it so then you kind of
2827s just have to walk back but now that it
2829s takes 50 extra damage you can have your
2830s villagers just turn and like torch down
2832s the tower really fast
2834s and then another uh really important
2836s situation we're hoping to address with
2837s this is people building keeps
2840s either
2841s responding to an attack in their base
2843s and just being able to put up a keep
2844s super fast or just pulling you know 10
2846s or 15 villagers with their attack and
2848s putting a keep right in the enemy base
2851s uh if the keeps built so quickly uh it
2854s felt like there was really nothing you
2855s could do is like he built he's got the
2857s stone he's got the villagers the keep is
2859s just going up and i can't stop it so not
2862s only does it take 50 more damage which
2864s means you could actually turn and attack
2866s it and kill it or you know significantly
2869s uh wound it
2871s additionally uh we increased the build
2873s time in the keeps too so you have a
2874s little bit more of a window to exploit
2876s that extra 50 damage that they keep
2878s takes um so yeah we're definitely
2880s excited to see
2882s see how that feels and what people do
2884s with it um and then just as a note on
2887s the development uh zack you'll probably
2889s remember that we started actually with a
2891s hundred percent damage penalty through
2893s these buildings uh
2895s but there were some situations we were a
2897s little a little uncomfortable with so we
2899s decided to to bring it back down to 50
2901s do you do you happen to remember any of
2903s those games
2904s um i'm not sure top of my head of any
2907s particular moment that you might be
2908s talking about but i'm sure you're
2910s alluding to something there there was
2912s one where someone was like trying to
2913s build a white tower and the dude just
2915s like killed it because it took double
2916s damage and then and then he lost 1800
2920s resources you know for aging up so you
2921s just like immediately quit the game at
2923s that point right so
2924s uh we definitely
2926s like like the possibilities right but
2928s it's it's definitely easier to go too
2930s far and like mongol torches right if
2932s they're taking double damage their
2934s buildings like that gives potentially
2935s gives them a huge advantage too so
2938s uh there were a lot of a lot of pieces
2940s and things we sort of took into account
2941s when we came up with that 50 number so
2944s um we would like to
2946s push it further if it's not quite
2948s achieving uh what we're hoping to get
2950s out of it but uh we do think it is
2951s pretty even 50 is pretty impactful yeah
2954s and not to go too much into the balance
2956s things because i think as grant and
2958s elliot said we'll go through that sort
2959s of a later date i just love them i'm
2961s sorry
2962s people asking for lannister this is why
2964s chat loves you eric you just you want to
2966s tell them everything
2968s well i want to also say that with the
2970s landmark tweaks stuff we have got quite
2972s a few changes planned for uh hre
2974s landmark specifically as well as the
