3s Let's take a look at
4s how easy it is to turn a small town into a thriving empire
8s while playing Age of Empires IV with an Xbox controller.
12s The first thing we're going to want to do is root out any idle villagers
16s and set them to work.
17s If you look down to the bottom of the screen, you can see the d-pad quick
21s selection options. At the top, with D-Pad up,
25s we can find our idle villagers. By tapping up on the D-Pad,
29s it will cycle through all of our idle villagers,
32s and by holding up we can select all of them at once.
36s Let's set them to work for now.
38s We've added lots of automation features
40s to make managing your empire far easier.
43s At the top of the screen where we see our resources,
46s we can also see to the right the villager priority system distribution.
50s We can open this with left trigger and right stick together
53s to see all of our villager priority system presets.
57s These presets automatically tell our villagers
59s what to gather when that created and manage our economy for us.
63s All we have to do is tell it which preset we want to use.
67s Let's use the economic preset.
69s This is a focus of food with a little bit of wood and a little bit of gold.
74s I'll select this now to engage that.
76s We can see that next to our resource panel, the distribution has updated.
80s If we want to tweak this at all, we can also press right
83s on the d-pad to enter a custom preset.
86s Here we can tweak the amount of food gold, wood or stone.
90s So let's add a little bit more wood by tapping A couple of times to increase
93s the amount of what gathered.
95s Our villagers will now automatically gather
97s the resources in the quantity that we have decided.
101s But that's not all.
103s If we select our town center, we're going to want to train a lot more villagers.
107s But it's hard to remember to keep training villagers
110s all the time, so we can automate that too.
113s If we open the radial here,
115s we can see at the bottom there is the auto train villagers toggle.
119s This is currently off, but if we engage it, our villagers will automatically
123s be trained from this town center until we turn it off at a later time.
127s If you look down to the bottom left, you can also see that
130s if you hold X, you can turn on or off the auto train
134s villager toggle.
136s With our villagers automatically being created and automatically assigned,
140s that leaves us to focus on empire building. Now with more villagers coming out
146s we're going to need to provide more housing, so let's build some houses next.
150s I'm going to select once these villagers from the wood line
153s and I'm going to tell them to build some houses.
155s I'll open up the build radial with the right trigger once again.
159s And here we can see all of our building options.
161s At the very top there is house.
163s We can select the house from here
165s and place it down in the world for our villager to build.
169s A villager won't be picked up by the villager priority system again
172s until they've finished construction. But we're not done yet.
175s Let's add some more houses.
177s Once again, if we look down at the bottom left,
179s we can see that house is actually a quick option.
182s So let's hold X to bring up the House blueprint once more.
186s And this time let's build more houses.
188s One just isn't enough.
190s If we hold left trigger, we can build multiple buildings in one go.
194s By holding left trigger and tapping a multiple times,
198s the villager will build not one but four houses for
201s however many times you tap A.
204s And once completed, they'll get straight back to work.
208s That concludes this little video.
210s But with these tips and tricks,
211s you'll be building massive, thriving empires in no time.
