  1. Your reliable source doesn't sound super reliable. Lots of wrong and missing information, and a couple of accurate things.
  2. Nothing takes the wind out of our sails like seeing our hard work be leaked on the internet before we get to unveil it as planned. In the past, with more substantial leaks there were moments where instead of the team being excited and celebrating the hard work and launch of a season were left feeling betrayed and let down. All this for what? So some faceless person on the internet can feel good about themselves because they have 'secret' information? Please think about the developers you are hurting. We work very hard on content and features for the game and our biggest motivator is announcing and seeing reactions to that hard work. Please stop robbing us of that.

Maybe tell the developers to stop leaking info to people that will leak it on reddit.

Building this game involves hundreds of people from the close group of devs at the studio, to QA spread around the world, to contractors and outsource studios, marketing team, trailer team, PR team, etc etc etc. When you have that many people involved unfortunately there will be a few bad apples despite how hard you try. We're a very good team and have very few problems with this in general, but that 0.01% of people can spoil things for the other 99.99%.

I shouldn’t have made it sound so snarky. I couldn’t care less about video game leaks. My point was, it seems like it would be infinitely more effective to focus on shutting down leaks from that long list of professional folks involved than to make an emotional plea to a 13 year old on the internet who is no doubt now even more motivated by garnering your attention.

Edit: can’t wait to play Season 6. Been playing since day one, best BR out there.

We do quite a bit to stop leaks internally, but you can never prevent it completely. Not trying to make this post a big deal, just wanted to say something about it because it really sucks. Super happy there are people who care about the game and want to talk about it though!!

That's a pretty funny typo.

I would feel bad about the leaks but there's no Respawn presence on this sub (except fan art comments), nothing really to dissuade it. It would help if Respawn actually communicated here often, maybe people would feel guilty about stealing some of your thunder.

Hah! Thanks for catching the typo! A lot of the devs are here often and read, but very few post anymore. It's pretty brutal, to be honest. Inbox quickly fills up with hate messages and demands. Pretty hard to feel appreciated. Something I suppose nobody understands until they're in the position. That said, I don't want this to come off as a complaint. I'm super grateful to have a game I worked on reach the level of success it has, and I love that there's a large community here of passionate gamers who want to see more of the game. I do appreciate all of you and mostly have fun chats with people when I do post, but it's a real exercise of mental strength to ignore the loud minority who send hate which is probably why you don't see more conversation happening involving developers.

Maybe you guys should get a dedicated PR position whose sole job is to communicate with the online communities. I mean, I’m sure you’ve thought of it before, and you might not have any control over that sort of thing, but that’s my suggestion.

We do, but it's always nice to get the devs involved too if we can. Lately, we've been doing the dev stream and blog posts.

Never said it was the worst thing, just saying it's a big bummer for us.

I don't think saying we get disappointed is being overly hostile. It's for sure a part of the entertainment industry and expected. I absolutely love we have a passionate fanbase that cares about the game. That doesn't mean I can't tell you how it makes us feel every time something lands online before we announce it.

Why does the leaks affect you guys enjoyment of the reactions, trying to understand it

Say like when the whole trailer got leaked, why isn't it like it just came out a bit earlier for you guys and you're whatever about it. Since the trailer is done you guys aren't changing it or anything right

For example when ramparts icon got leaked tom tried to defuse some of the speculations on twitter and tried to confuse people that she was male but like isn't the character already wrapped up ect, if it leaks couldn't it be the same as ea being like ok boys we releasing this a few days early.

I get it's a dick move for people to announce your stuff before you want but once it's done don't you get to witness the same reactions?

There's a lot of art in how we introduce things. We often tease things, tell story, or want to announce in a certain way to create excitement. It's like if you were telling this long joke to your friend and you were really into the build-up, and right before the punchline someone else shouted the punchline, you'd be pretty bummed that you didn't get to do that part. Your logic in your post would be "but hey your friend got the punchline told to him so why does it matter? The joke was already written", but you'd probably feel a bit annoyed that your friend spoiled your opportunity to tell it yourself in your own way.

Seems like you're over simplifying this leak situation for this metaphor. Re reading this, you can't compare you saying a joke to a friend with the company's content being leaked.

I don't know if this a western culture thing but it just seems too personal. To put it back in your context, you say the joke for your friend to laugh and if he does and enjoy the joke just the same, no harm done.

You want enjoyment from finishing the joke when you fully know you have that friend that does the punchlines sometimes. But you can't seem to move past it.

Your dissatisfaction comes from not saying it yourself but you also get satisfaction from seeing the joke in effect and having your friend laugh.

Shouldn't that be your main goal for putting out content? The satisfaction and enjoyment of the recipient of the content?

And maybe some people do get spoiled when they don't want to but a lot of us enjoy the leaks and your content is actually improved by it.

You're mad at the guy saying the punchline but sadly for you, a lot of us prefer him saying it to you.

You have proven over the last year and a half that you take really long to make a joke and there's not that many jokes compared to your competitors. So a lot of us prefer a faster alternative.

Sure it's your personal work, but you're part of a company, the work you put out is perceived by the public as if it is from respawn not every individual from respawn.

If you're still stuck to your personal view within the company and letting the leaks affect you guys that way maybe you should really change your perspective on things and have your employees do the same.

When things get leaked and you guys' response come in the form of Tom's twitter rant with him calling people small ect, it really makes your company look less professional. https://twitter.com/tommiecas/status/1275815210046025729?s=21

Like I've mentioned to you in another comment, riot doesn't seem to be handling this issue with so much complaining and are acting as a professional company.

They embraced the dataminers and the fact that leaks happen in this industry and  they can manage to have constant communication on their subreddits while also managing the toxicity.

As a fan of this game and theirs am just comparing the comedians and their reaction to having their joke finished.

Yours is coming off as a tad unprofessional and too personal. Thanks for reading ☺️

We get “too personal” or we get “too corporate”. We get “you don’t communicate enough” and when we do we jump on and chat we get told it’s the wrong thing to say. This is why we generally avoid talking to anyone here. I might be done. A simple post talking about leaks making us sad leads to hundreds of mean DMs, death threats, apparently someone also wants my whole family to die because of SBMM. Most of the community here are great people and I enjoy reading daily, but dang we are just a bunch of people just like you making a game and deserve the same respect you want. We do embrace leaks, the whole reason Forge existed was to mess with data miners in a fun way. Sorry we aren’t making content fast enough for you. We’re doing the best we can and there are a lot of great new features and changes coming to the game. Personally super excited about crafting next week!
