Are you the guy that makes recolors? If so, any chance you could elaborate on what process goes into making them?

contemplate what color schemes are rare in the game > consider color preferences from past skins ( IE were there reddit posts in support of this color scheme? do i see people wear it often?) > does it follow color theory that I learned in art school > find references of similar schemes to support idea> select color layer > change hue > export textures > crack a beer and pat yourself on the back

Thats what i usually do anyway, not sure what everyone else does

If theres more then one guy making recolors do you mind saying what recolors you made? Or is it a group effort?

probably 15-25 people have worked on them, but personally i did watermelon junk pathfinder, purple and gold octane motocross guy, all of the revenant bird recolors/rethemes, i also did the gold and blue leopard spot bloodhound from season 1, and the dinosaur lover wattson from forever ago, wood and gold pathfinder too. Sometimes more than one person will work on the same one, but usually you just go at it yourself.

Why was there a time from s1-s4 then where every second recolor was blue and orange? If you’re looking for rare colors, also cold and warm colors don’t look that well together.

color theory doesnt agree with you there, as far as lots of blue orange, it is considered a complimentary color set and if 5 different people are all looking at the pool and saying "huh, not enough blue and orange" and all making them at the same time then that can happen. Im willing to bet that you just noticed all the blue and orange ones because there were what 50 recolors released in that time frame, im sure only a handful were actually blue and orange.

But arent you guys supposed to throw your ideas together, work together and be like "alright i'll take this color set, person 2 does this". How come 5 artists all work on the same color scheme across all legends? And its not just a handful, it wasnt quite literally every second that was blue AND orange, but it was every second that either had blue OR orange in it.

Theres very few recolors that do not have one or the other color as a primary. Which is one of the reasons ppl want pre S1 recolors back, because those werent created by your "color theory" image (if youre speaking about the opposite colors that are seperated like a cake). Airship Assasin is so "prestigous" because it looks like effort went in, not a quick glance at an image to be like "alright, will take blue and orange since thats the exact opposite of each other". Like you did with Wraiths second toothbrush looking recolor.

For example, both R99 recolors of kill switch/outlands avalanche (same base model) are blue and orange, just different shades of them. the only real difference is that theres some green mixed into the latest one, instead of giving something new like a purple or yellow. The recolors were also 2 seasons apart if I remember correctly.

It seems you guys have themes, blue/orange, watermelon etc. and just apply these, instead of going all in for every skin like it was the case with red shift/airship/lifeline bling to name a few.

But I do appreciate the insight, as that explains why theres so few/many recolors of a certain color set.

true true, in the ideal world communication would be perfect, but alas it is not.
