So internally, we have been working on and testing this feature but it wasn't our intention or plan to have it go live with the update that went out today. There was a piece of script that was missing and caused the leaving match early penalty to be turned on when it shouldn't be. That's why it wasn't in the patch notes.

We updated the script, tested with QA and it's now disabled for all platforms. We don't have an ETA for if or when this would come out for real. Apologies for the confusion.

If you're going to implement this please fix your matchmaking so I'm not dropping without a full team. I shouldn't be punished for leaving if I'm being forced to drop alone or in a duo.

Just FYI, the penalty was never applied if your team wasn't full.

What if my respawn timer times out? Can I leave then without penalty? I don't want to sit in a game with a bunch of randoms that I can no longer play in.

Respawn timer never factored in either. If you're dead, you are free to leave.

[Edited so you'll have to wonder what exactly this post said, and because it was a lil aggressive as it came after a bought of about 20 matches where I either started with 2 people, or had to fight 3 people at a time as my "teammates" immediately died or were in Timbuktu] 2nd edit: I guess he wanted you to see all the issues there are with the game and development team that's letting it stagnate (imo)... I mean I edited it originally to spare them that after such a well thought out response, but good to see he appreciates context.

Basically: you adding solos? If not let me know so I can stop practicing as none of my friends will play this game with me whenever I want, let alone play it at all, and I don't feel like trolling discords for friends that will also stop playing in a couple days. ;)

Edit: finding out Respawn is neglecting Apex to produce their new Star wars game is pretty f**king shitty, but explains why the game is dying.

Edit: Show original context for reply

And why exactly is there only one mode, yet you're adding 20$ P2020 skins to the store?

I mean I haven't bought a pack, and didn't buy the battle pass because of the severe lack of content, I don't think you realize how badly I WANTED to buy it and support the game...

Before realizing even it's own developers don't support it, and won't add a solo queue while maintaining the integrity of the original mode intact, hell, they won't even try adding solos, to keep people who don't play all day or who arent children occupied while their sweaty friends arent online....

Can't wait until Respawn realizes how fighting entire teams of 3 for an entire match, or just getting wrecked by the 1st squad you see, because you were paired with a 4 year old that shouldn't be playing the game, can be a little irritating while not being fun, like at all...

That's not even mentioning that 50% of the matches only start with 1 or 2 people due to disconnects... Or the fact that I didn't lag the 1st month, now lag every night at seemingly the same time....Seriously, when will your game be playable again, let alone fun?

It had so much potential... And you're not even mentioning that there will be a solo mode in the future, do you think the moronic sheep/gatekeepers in this sub will do enough to support your game in the long run if you Don't add some form of solo? Because they're the only ones who will be playing the game in a year when everyone realizes RANDOMS ARE LITERALLY POINTLESS in a game where you might have to fight upwards of 3 people at a time should your teammate(s) go down...

Just an announcement. "No, we want to let the game die in peace" Or "Yes, we will continue to develop the game in hopes that the stagnation it's been enduring ends, we realize one mode isn't feasible for a BR with this much potential, and will implement a solo mode".. dude, anything..... you can comment on wraith cosplay and other meaningless bs, but the devs can't simple tell their fans whether or not their game will EVER receive a solo queue?

To answer your first question; because the artists that make the skins, and the operations folks who update the store don't implement gameplay, nor are they in charge of game direction.

As for everything else, there's far too much there to answer individually, and a lot of it I'm not at liberty to answer. There best answer I can give you is: We will continue to support and improve the game to the best of our ability.

Unfortunately, there are far more things for us to spend our development time on than there is time, so we have to prioritize. In the end, that's going to leave someone unhappy because what they feel is important isn't prioritized as highly as they think it should be. That's just reality, and we can't make everyone happy.

As to why I don't give specific answers about unannounced or requested features (like alternate modes); far too often it's unwise to do so. Just mentioning this kind of stuff gets taken as a promise. The timeline starts the moment it's mentioned... and everyone has a different expectation of what's a reasonable timeline... and many people heavily underestimate what is required.

I'll give you my somewhat cynical take on how this stuff tends to go. If I were to say "Yes, feature X will come to the game someday.", (aside from instantly becoming a promise, which we are now obligated to add) it would likely get picked up by blogs and gaming news sites, posted as "Respawn says X is coming to Apex", and depending on how those articles are written, they're going to set expectations incorrectly for a lot of people. Eventually, people would talk about how Respawn "announced X ages ago", saying that it's taking too long, or speculating about why it has been delayed. A lot of this can be helped by careful wordsmithing, but even that can be taken out of context, or misquoted like a bad game of telephone, leading to the same issues. So I leave that to those whose job it is, and post what I can, when I can, in my free time (hello Sunday afternoon).

Wait so.. if a team mate is downed and killed but not completely out yet they can leave without a penalty?? If so what's the point of this feature anyways the point was so toxic team mates don't run off and die and leave immediately.

Correct. The point of the feature is more about making sure players give a fair shot to their squad. In that implementation of the feature, that doesn't include being required to wait for a possible banner recovery or respawn. There are a number of issues with doing so that aren't easy solves (e.g. *accurately* detecting if your squad mates have any intention of recovering your banner in the first place) and the payoff isn't objectively worth it... you can still end up with players forced to sit around for 90 seconds while their teammates fail at recovery. Right now, once you're dead, your obligation ends.
