23s another day in the world of Vera and we
26s have an exciting update for you today we
29s are going to be showing off
31s one of the most beloved Arch types in
35s fantasy MMO RPGs the fighter Arch type
39s and there has been a lot of work that's
41s been done uh in progressing this
43s obviously last time we showed anything
45s remotely fighter related it was I think
47s almost two years ago when we did our
49s first um basic weapon melee weapon uh
53s revamp from alpha one uh and there were
56s a couple abilities obviously that we
57s showed off but nothing like the Showcase
59s we have stored for you today you are
61s going to get some pretty
63s in-depth understanding of how this
65s archetype has been redesigned um and the
69s progression that's going to be available
70s as part of Alpha 2 and we have joining
72s us to talk through that today two of our
76s absolutely stellar and glorious senior
79s designers on the combat team Trad Brian
82s how are you guys doing doing pretty good
85s here glad to be back on
87s stream I'm doing great happy to be here
89s happy to have you both I know you guys
91s have put in a lot of work and and I
93s think really representing pretty well
96s what a lot of people who played Fighters
98s and other MMOs love about the class I'm
100s excited to chat with you about the
102s direction you guys have taken um and
105s obviously helping to make that a reality
107s um feature team owner on the combat side
109s as well as one of our senior Engineers
112s Kenan how are you doing
114s buddy I'm doing great thanks for having
116s me and uh now that you mentioned I think
118s that that original fighter stream was
119s actually my first stream was it really
122s yeah I think so oh I think it was I
124s think you're right yeah that was uh
126s there was a lot of work that went into
127s kind of obviously changing the direction
129s of of melee and combat in general at
131s that time and now we have we are seeing
134s some of the
135s fruitful
136s um persistence in that in that direction
140s um so one other thing I want to let you
142s guys know is obviously we are here back
144s again uh in the riverlands and we are
147s actually in front of Oak and Bane keep
149s which is an area you guys saw at the end
152s of the last live stream from the
153s commission's live stream
155s um and right when we ended that live
158s stream a story arc began in this area
160s called an ancient violence and we're
164s going to be going in there and taking a
165s look around but first I think what we
167s should do is something that we have
169s successfully done uh in the past with
172s these showcases is kind of show off each
174s individual ability first talk about what
177s they do uh and give you guys a sense of
179s the of the of the arc type and uh the
181s abilities available to us before we get
183s in to combat with some some freaky
186s Goblin Town stuff um so do I have a
190s volunteer today that could help tank
192s some blows
194s potentially yeah I'll help them nice
197s awesome all right very cool um so which
200s should we start with first what do you
202s guys
206s think um start with blitz Blitz all
209s right let's see Blitz is the first one
211s on the bar let's go let's go down the
212s bar all right let's do
214s it um actually you know what I'm sorry
218s why don't we first start with
221s momentum that sounds like a good idea
223s because momentum is obviously going to
225s be referenced in Blitz I was just
226s looking at that uh and as well as a
228s number of other abilities and momentum
231s is essentially a class Energy System is
234s that right tread that is correct talk to
238s jum yeah I'll go into a little more
239s detail about that so one thing that we
241s feel adds a lot to just just class
244s identity in general is something that is
247s beyond just an ability in this case it's
248s a a class or an in this case an
250s archetype resource uh called combat
253s momentum so in your top left of the
254s screen here you'll see that you've got
256s your standard health bar and your Mana
258s bar and then a third empty bar that
260s you'll see kind of build up in combat as
262s we play um that you build up through all
265s the different actions that you're doing
267s um through the kit and you can use this
269s resource to um uh get passive power to
273s your character based on which form you
275s were in which we'll get into it in a
276s little bit here um and you can also
279s spend it for certain unique um
281s especially powerful bonuses so and guys
284s just to remind everyone obviously
287s everything you're going to see here is
288s still a work in progress we are working
290s towards Alpha 2 um especially as it
293s relates to the UI as it relates to VFX
296s um and Designs will change uh balances
299s will change
301s so keep that in mind what we're looking
302s for is kind of direction right direction
304s on these on this archetype what do you
306s think looks cool uh what other what
308s other fighter influences if you had in
310s other MMOs that you think could be
312s incorporated as well that's all part of
313s the discussion um okay so momentum is
316s that class energy ability and and as you
317s guys have seen obviously other classes
319s Trad is talking about has some similar
321s kind of class uh energy
324s mechanics um momentum is definitely it
328s looks like it is as it sounds right I
331s mean this is something that just
333s passively is
334s generating um increased uh stat bonuses
337s and those stat bonuses um will'll get to
340s in a little while of how they can be
341s applied based on some some individual
343s Buffs so now that we know what momentum
345s is and it's good to generate that let us
347s talk a little bit about Blitz what is
349s Blitz as an
351s ability yeah uh Blitz is your your Gap
355s closer your bread and butter Gap closer
357s uh you pick a Target and you charge to
360s the Target um there's also a spec option
362s that interacts with the resource if you
364s choose it um that generates um some
367s combat momentum so it let you kind of
368s open the encounter uh with um a little
371s bit of resource to start okay so I'm
373s going to I'm going to charge the target
375s directly and I'm going to deal damage on
378s a rival which is physical based and this
380s spec option says that it generates 20
383s additional combat momentum now
386s presumably combat momentum does not
388s overflow after it hits the the
391s maximum 100 points is that correct
393s that's right yeah okay cool and then I
396s see under it there is an additional um
399s spec option that says uh killing an
402s enemy with lethal blow will reset the
404s coold down of Blitz so the more I kill
406s essentially if I use lethal blow I can
409s just keep that momentum up generating
412s additional uh combat momentum so I can
414s use a little bit after you know
416s potentially landing on the Target and
418s replenish that quickly after with with
421s uh executing lethal blow on the target
423s as a kill and then raging Blitz into the
426s next yeah it turns you into more of a
428s aggressive mobile character if you go
430s with that like you're killing enemies
431s and then you need to pick a new Target
433s he might be far away you charge to him
435s kill him rinse and repeat cool all right
437s let's take a look at
440s this ooh nice okay that was cool and
446s presumably this also scales uh
448s verticality as well
452s Let's test it and guys for the purposes
454s obviously of this demonstration I've set
455s my cool Downs to zero so that I can more
457s repeatedly use uh oh here we go we got
461s some kill those little mushrooms
464s huh I don't want to spoil the skills for
468s you it's a kind of kind of Stormy day
471s with this ancient violence in the
474s background oh and by the way we are
476s playing for the first time in in I
480s believe in game uh the ren Kai Orcs got
485s my trusty Mohawk going on it is probably
489s the most
491s appropriate uh race class
495s combination I thought
498s so all right so I'm going to try to jump
500s I'm going to try to scale this thing on
501s you let's see
503s here oh man now that is cool that was
508s awesome let me do that again yeah yeah
511s this is kind of an answer you get to
513s like that Archer on the ledge that's
515s just free shooting on you and it's like
516s oh I'm just going to get up there with
518s you oh my bad there let me try this one
521s more time one more
523s time oh very
525s nice okay so by by default so now let me
531s try this oh did you just die I think
533s that was a a bad nuke my bad from
536s someone my bad no that was for sure my
539s bad
543s that feels really good by the way that
545s feels
545s clean very clean oh there's did somebody
549s also die over
550s here just a little mushroom oh a little
553s mushroom okay okay Blitz Blitz feels
556s really good well done with that I like
557s that it's super smooth uh and fluid it
560s feels um you know there's not really any
563s movement Interruption either on contact
566s or at the initiation um which is
568s obviously one of the most you know ideal
570s feeling points of any Mobility skill
573s right is that fluidity uh uh
577s throughout um okay let's talk about the
579s next one so we have brutal
583s cleave Yep this is probably your most
586s bread and butter AOE attack um you can
589s it it does a a medium amount of damage
591s it's not one of your more spect uh
593s spectacular aoe's but um it's your
596s primary AOE resource generator so you're
598s going to be using this a lot to build
599s your momentum um and you also weave this
602s a lot between your weapon combos because
604s your weapon attack finishers will um
607s reset seconds off of this cool down so
610s if you're like going back and forth
612s between Cleaves and and a and uh weapon
615s attacks you get to do more of them and
616s have more up time
620s okay yeah that's pretty cool all right
622s so this does also the more targets you
624s hit uh so that's why it's really good in
625s AOE situations is you get more momentum
627s based on how many targets you're hitting
631s got it so after jumping in with blitz if
634s especially if there's multiple targets
636s going with a brutal cleave is is just
637s going to really ramp that momentum um
640s and then it looks like also that this
642s ability it says shares a coold down with
647s overpower um and it says also the weapon
650s combo finisher will reduce its coold
652s down by 8
655s seconds yep um so you'll be resetting
659s overpowers more frequently cuz if we
661s want to just jump over to that one
662s that's the single Target counterpart to
665s this attack um it's more it's just a
667s single Target hit um but it is shorter
669s cool down so you can reset them more
670s frequently and it's also generating your
672s resource so it it kind of you're
674s choosing which one to use based on um
677s what your your um enemies
679s are very cool that looks great by the
683s way Scott did a Scott and SAA have done
686s an amazing
688s job yeah I'm really happy with how the
690s effects turned out like making physical
692s look this cool like you
695s know it was a
700s fe oh my
703s bad okay all right very cool I like that
706s this uh brutal cleave is awesome um
709s let's talk about MIM here let's go over
712s here a little bit right
715s here talk to me a little bit about
718s M um so this is a more powerful AO AOE
722s attack in the kit um do you have a spec
724s right now for the uh yeah let me take a
725s look here let me take and by the way
727s brutal cleave I apologize uh there's no
729s additional functionality it looks like
731s on Brutal cleave uh but we did talk also
734s about um overpowers on the right column
739s um it's an autog granted ability so it's
741s not going to be in this tree like got it
743s there you go okay so it doesn't have any
745s spec options either but MIM does and
749s should I turn M off let me turn the spec
751s option off first because this actually
753s extends the distance of the projectile
757s by essentially launching that piercing
759s projectile is that right yeah let's take
761s a point out of that first and then uh
763s we'll just kind of look at the base
765s effect okay um so this is just a cone in
768s front of you you're hitting in a cone in
769s front of you it's preey hitter um you're
772s not resetting the cool down of this so
774s you need to be more you know um uh aware
778s of when you're using this
780s but um it also has the added effect of
783s it will do more damage against recently
785s tripped enemies so that's where you
787s really want to save this is if you've
788s tripped someone um or if someone else
790s has tripped an enemy you capitalize on
792s it by basically smashing down on them
794s with
796s this that looks so good love it that is
800s awesome okay so let's uh let's spec into
803s the
806s projectile now this is going to give you
808s obviously a lot more range
812s change
815s oh this adds a a piercing projectile on
819s top of the attack so you're still
820s getting that frontal AOE hit boox that's
823s staying the same but you're adding a
824s projectile on top of it and the cool
826s thing here too is the projectile gets
828s the bonus of the the damage bonus from
830s the trip so you could actually combo
832s into a Target that you see trip from
834s range um with this as well um one reason
837s this is a spec option is some Fighters
840s want to be using this in a way that you
842s know you don't want to pull a mob in the
843s distance so it's just kind of an added
845s layer of skill if you're using this in
846s like a really cluttered environment um
849s but it's kind of a trade-off that feels
852s really
854s good that is awesome give myself some
861s Mana there we go um okay cool I love MIM
866s that is an awesome ability let's talk
868s about uh battlecry
871s this is definitely one of my personal
872s favorites um it doesn't do damage but
875s it's got some really cool effects going
877s on with it um so do you want me to start
881s talking about or you
883s want okay cool um so I love this as an
886s AOE opener um what it does it does a few
889s things one um it RS your allies
892s specifically your party members um it
894s will also apply a status Effect called
896s shaken to your enemies um and then it
899s will generate a certain amount of combat
901s momentum per Ally that you
906s R and then uh just to elaborate because
909s people are like what what is shaken what
911s is what is RI well uh shaken right now
914s um is a debuff on enemies that whenever
917s they take damage they have a small
919s chance to become tripped so there's some
921s good combos with this where like you go
923s into like a multi-hit AOE and you can
925s capitalize on that and then by tripping
928s or by triggering trips status um that
931s flows into MIM really well so that's one
933s of the combos I like to do is shout into
935s like a a whirlwind which you'll see in a
937s bit um into you know MIM to do extra
940s damage against targets that of uh proed
943s that
944s effect yeah these are feeling great wow
947s I do like the uh the battlecry that is
950s like probably the most standard feeling
954s like you know
956s expected action on behalf of the fighter
959s some type of battlecry effect and this
961s one cap captures it
963s well I love that that's cool um okay we
967s saw Whirlwind uh back a while ago and
972s talked to me about what's changed about
974s Whirlwind um so rwind is actually pretty
978s close to what it's always been um it's
980s it's a it's an AOE channeled attack that
983s ramps up in speed the longer you you you
986s hold it um there's also a spec option on
988s the right if you want want to pick that
990s that gives um a final upward swing at
992s the end um that has some additional
994s bonuses to it um so let's do it without
997s the spec
1003s first all right cool so it exits out
1007s after the essentially the spinning there
1009s let's see yep I'm out of
1012s Mana there we go let's try it
1017s again yeah you're also able to move
1020s during it as you're seeing here so it's
1022s it's pretty nice to be able to just kind
1023s of like use this while you're moving
1026s through a pack of mobs got it so let me
1028s spec now into the option that I could
1032s invest additional points into this
1034s particular skill if I wanted to give
1035s myself a finishing blow
1044s essentially oh nice okay so you get a
1047s big hit at the end um Al you can stop
1049s this at any time so you're seeing him do
1051s the full Channel but if it's like oh I
1053s want to you know cancel out of it early
1055s for like let's say let's say one thing
1057s I'll do from time to time is uh if I
1060s Shake In enemies and then this this
1062s ability is kind of good at uh tripping
1064s enemies cuz it's hitting really rapidly
1066s um you might see a trip and you can
1067s cancel out of it into a m early um if
1070s you want to show off that
1072s combo into a MIM yep let's do
1076s it there you go oh nice that's cool that
1080s feels good let's
1085s see that's so cool that's
1089s awesome all right cool uh Whirlwind
1091s feels good too all right cataclysm is
1094s another one that we saw a while ago
1096s what's changed with
1097s cataclysm yeah a lot has changed with
1099s this one um it used to be like this big
1103s like Hammer that would appear over your
1104s head and then it hit like an AOE kind of
1106s far away from you overall it ended up
1108s feeling a little awkward to use we
1109s wanted to turn this more into like your
1111s big frontal AOE damage so this is like
1114s the other end of the spectrum like
1116s stronger than Mame um it's just a big
1119s ultimate like AOE attack essentially
1122s it's it's pretty straightforward all
1124s right no additional spec options here
1126s and by the way for those of you out here
1128s you know that are wondering about kind
1130s of how augments even though we haven't
1132s seen a lot of augment work being done a
1135s lot of this Tech is foundational in
1138s applying these types of spec options
1141s which augments essentially are as well
1144s but they can more radically change
1145s fundamentally what the ability is so
1148s that
1149s Whirlwind you know adding an additional
1151s component to the ability which is that
1154s climactic climactic Whirlwind
1156s essentially could be considered
1158s functionally as an augment an additional
1160s effect applied to the ability um okay
1164s let us showcase that new
1168s cataclysm
1170s oh that feels much
1174s better yeah that's cool this is also
1178s another way to apply shaken enemies as
1180s well um it and battlecry are kind of on
1183s separate longer cool Downs so you might
1185s find yourself sort of going bit back and
1187s forth between these interchangeably and
1189s you can change the direction here mid
1191s mid wind up
1196s yep nice I like that uh obvious the
1199s granularity in
1200s that yeah it gives you a little more
1202s agency like you're not just locked in
1204s place cuz it is a full rooted ability
1206s you cannot move during this but being
1209s able to turn like gives you a little bit
1211s more you know control over what happens
1214s as things might change mid cast okay
1217s yeah I I totally agree I love that the
1219s freedom feeling there um and that's
1222s obviously something that you know is is
1224s a philosophy and a standard that's taken
1226s across a lot of the classes as it comes
1228s to like you know rooted ability use and
1230s whatnot um that that freedom of agency
1232s that movement is core to kind of the
1234s melee experience and and general skill
1237s usage um all right next up we have
1240s rupture y so this is an interesting one
1243s um it's a single target attack um and it
1246s puts a temporary debuff on your target
1249s where if they are moving um while that
1253s effect is on them they will build up
1255s wounded Stacks um we can we can talk
1258s about the we can talk about that S
1260s effect in a moment here but talk about
1262s the fact that he should have like
1263s literally zero blood pressure remaining
1265s after rupturing that much blood oh we
1269s can build in that
1271s mechanic um but also you'll notice at
1274s the end of it he takes a big hit of
1275s damage um and the idea is that that
1279s damage will scale with how much wound
1282s they have on them so this will have kind
1283s of some inter Synergy going on with
1285s itself but also um there will be other
1288s sources of wound that you could kind of
1290s synergize this with this F uh further
1292s for that big delayed hit at the end wow
1294s okay so the wounds the wounds are
1296s essentially these these stacking
1298s debuffs um that get
1301s applied um and that's going to you said
1305s decrease their healing received correct
1308s and also increases damage taken from all
1312s sources uh from physical sources from
1314s physical sources got it very
1317s cool yeah um and the more you build that
1320s up cuz this is actually a stacking thing
1322s um it's not just like a single status
1324s effect so the more you're wounding the
1326s target um the more and more debuffed
1329s their healing incoming healing becomes
1332s so it's one of those things where if a
1334s fighter is like on your target that
1336s you're trying to keep alive you want to
1338s peel a fighter off that Target because
1339s the longer they get that up time the
1341s harder it's going to become to to heal
1343s them
1348s up
1350s that's cool that's awesome okay love
1353s rupture uh also love the an insane
1356s amount of blood that's
1359s happening um
1361s overpower talk to me about overpower
1363s what do we got here uh this we talked
1366s about this one this was the uh the
1367s resource generator that's right that's
1369s right and that one doesn't have any
1370s additional spec options the rupture also
1374s um looks like did that one have spec
1377s options um it does not but if you go in
1381s so you'll you will see kind of to the
1382s right of rupture there are some um
1385s things that it
1386s unlocks um like what's oh sorry below it
1389s MIM actually if you go to MIM and then
1391s to the right uh there are some things
1393s over here that you get to unlock as well
1395s which kind of synergize with with
1397s rupture um for example brutality uh
1400s allows you to start applying wound
1402s Stacks through your weapon combos so if
1404s you really want to lean into that that
1407s utility uh like I'm a debuffing spec
1410s fighter right like that's my thing that
1412s I do you could go into this and now your
1414s weapon attacks in in addition to
1416s generating momentum are also applying
1418s wounds to the Target love it um and then
1422s this one this one adds more wound um
1425s specialization if you go
1428s down oh wow okay so this gives overpower
1431s and brutal cleave wound
1433s application yeah it's basically what
1435s it's kind of doing is it's tying your
1438s your your wound wounds to the way that
1440s you're normally building momentum if you
1441s want to kind of dual Speck into both
1444s that's cool wow it's
1447s strong okay um let's talk about this
1451s apparent uh crippling
1454s blow uh yeah sure so crippling blow this
1457s one's pretty simple um this is a a
1460s standard single Target snare um so a
1464s pretty common combo you'd use is like
1466s Blitz into a crippling blow if you're
1469s like getting on top of a Target that's
1470s trying to kite you um like if if you're
1473s charging up on a ranger who's like the
1475s last thing they want is your you in
1477s their face like snaring them is going to
1479s force them to maybe use a gap opener
1482s because they're not able to outrun
1488s you that's
1493s cool so crippling blow is pretty strong
1496s actually especially when it comes to PVP
1497s I mean that that that's a
1499s pretty significant reduction in movement
1503s speed yeah it's it is single Target so
1506s you do have to Choose Wisely who you are
1508s snaring but um it's it's pretty nice um
1511s to be able to just lock a Target down
1513s not not like hard CC but just um make it
1516s easier to stick on top of
1523s them very cool all right crippling blow
1526s and then we have lethal blow
1529s this is another one of my favorites uh
1531s this is the execute of the kit um it's
1533s single Target as well um but the lower
1536s Health they are um the harder it's going
1538s to hit uh so this is this is really like
1541s you're trying to do as much damage with
1543s your other abilities as possible and
1544s then when you get them like within that
1546s kill threshold you're just going to hit
1548s hit him with this hope for a crit maybe
1551s um and you know finish him
1556s off use it there you go oh my
1562s God this does have um a couple spec
1564s options as well one you kind of win over
1566s if you kill them with that and you have
1568s the spec that resets Blitz you could
1570s immediately Blitz again um even if it
1573s was off cool down when you got the
1577s kill but if you want to open your skill
1579s tree here we can look at the other one
1581s let's talk about it and the uh sorry
1583s crippling blow did not have any spec
1584s options but lethal
1586s blow does
1589s yeah so um a lot of the time you know
1592s I've I've played games where you know
1594s executes hit really hard but you waste a
1596s lot of the damage and it kind of it's
1598s like oh I saw a cool big number but it
1599s didn't really do anything it's kind of
1601s wasted um this spec option lets you make
1604s use out of that so it turns any Overkill
1606s damage into like health and Mana return
1609s to you that's awesome and you know what
1611s I love about that it's at least as
1612s relates to
1613s PVP is that you do not have granularity
1617s insight to the the opponent's hit point
1619s so you're really rolling the dice if you
1622s want to maximize efficacy on this
1623s consuming lethal blow yeah that's how
1626s I've been using it a lot like sometimes
1628s I I pull it off other times I don't love
1631s it that's super cool I like that
1633s interaction there okay um let's go up
1635s here we got blood
1638s Fusion yeah so um kind of like that
1641s lethal blow spec we were using this is
1642s another way for the um fighter to get
1646s health and Mana back to itself that's
1648s kind of one way that the fighter
1649s sustains itself cuz it's it's in the
1651s thick of things right it's it's a
1653s primary target um You' got to be in
1655s danger to be doing a lot of what your
1657s your kit does and this is this was this
1659s is like one way the um fighter can stay
1662s in the fight and if you pop this it's a
1664s big cool down um but for the next six
1667s seconds any damage you do will have a%
1669s returned um as health and Mana to you
1673s okay so let me somebody nuke me for like
1677s 500
1679s you go ahead sh okay I don't want to do
1682s it all I once multiple 500s like three
1685s 500 and then um I am going to deal some
1689s damage here to see how much I get
1699s back yep so that last hit missed the
1701s window um but you got a good junk from
1704s your other attacks um the the the value
1707s of this is super variable based on when
1709s you use it so if you pop it in the right
1711s moment you've got a lot of targets
1712s around you you're like popping your
1714s aoe's like this is going to get a ton
1716s more
1721s value that was cool I like that so this
1724s an insta cast that can happen in the
1726s middle of any ability activation right
1729s nice you could like start your cataclysm
1733s and then pop that right before it lands
1736s that's cool that is super cool
1744s um oh yeah I see that okay very nice and
1747s I like the uh the effect effect looks
1751s great it's got more of that Blood Theme
1755s yes I also love the audio for it it's
1757s like you're consuming it a
1759s bit all right let me grab whatever this
1764s is oh bunch of stuff I think that was on
1767s your corpse I'm sorry br man do that
1769s right in front of you
1772s disrespectful um okay cool uh let's skip
1775s exer for now let's go to lunging
1778s assault yeah so this is like going to be
1781s one of your first Spenders of your
1784s resource um this spender is more for
1786s Mobility um it's a smaller spender um
1789s but whenever you um use this you will
1791s Dash forward a short distance and do an
1793s attack at the end um and it's PR pretty
1796s freely usable it doesn't have a very
1798s long cool down it's just spending your
1800s resource so the more resource you're
1801s generating the more you're able to kind
1802s of reposition and dash around the
1804s battlefield and get some extra damage
1805s out there I see now obviously utilizing
1809s the resource with lunging assault
1811s because you're dealing instances of
1813s damage to enemies that you impact you
1815s have an opportunity if executed if
1817s executed well situationally that you
1821s can you can actually probably have a net
1824s gain with this if there's a huge amount
1827s of enemies like a train or something
1829s right yeah it would probably take a lot
1831s of enemies to actually get a a profit
1833s but you can at least mitigate the cost
1836s uh through that spec choice of um if
1838s you're hitting enemies you can you can
1840s get resource back and therefore you're
1841s getting to do this more and you're also
1843s not losing the value of your resource
1846s get that you're getting passively
1847s through your forms which again will'll
1849s get too soon cool cool okay uh let's try
1853s this we go and now I don't need a target
1855s for this I can just kind of no freely
1858s it's
1866s all
1868s right that's cool oh

1917s it's very far and it doesn't require a
1919s Target unlike Blitz um and you're also
1922s going to basically deal damage and AOE
1924s around it so it's just a more powerful
1926s but less frequently usable um Gap closer
1930s sloper if you even decid to use it as an
1935s opener oh my

1947s that yeah that's a fun one to use it's
1949s holy smokes definitely more more AOE
1952s focused and again guys I am using zero
1955s cooldowns right now just so I can
1956s demonstrate the abilities well I know

1959s character is just going to fly around
1960s the battlefield that's not what's
1962s happening literal rocket I know you can
1965s actually use this too to um go up on
1967s Ledges like if you were to try and get
1970s up on one of these Ledges we were trying
1972s earlier yeah you don't even need a
1974s Target to use it let me just check are
1976s there any spec options here

2041s combat momentum
2043s resource um you can spend momentum but
2046s it's a resource that's primarily meant
2048s to be built up and maintained because of
2051s the bonuses that these forms provide so
2054s if we want to just look at one of the
2055s first ones here we can go into a a
2057s little more detail on how those work I'm
2060s actually going to make it a little bit
2062s whoops my bad I wanted to change the
2065s time of day
2066s slightly get some better l light over
2068s here there we go
2071s apologies um okay um which one am I
2074s switching to anyone you want we'll get
2077s through all let's go to you know I am
2079s playing a ren Kai so ferocity sounds
2083s good all right so now you'll notice in
2087s the top left here he is in this form um
2091s so as long as you don't change forms you
2095s will permanently remain in the form of
2097s uh ferocity we actually renamed this
2099s recently so you'll see Tempest there but
2101s um that went through a rename um so
2105s while in this form uh your momentum will
2108s increase your attack speed uh the higher
2111s your momentum is so for every point of
2113s momentum that you've got your attack
2114s speed's going up so you're you're
2115s basically ramping up that attack speed
2117s as you generate so where I see right now
2119s I'm at
2121s 86.9 yep let's generate some
2127s momentum
2129s your combo weapon combos are pretty good
2130s for generating momentum as well
2133s especially your
2134s finishers here you
2137s go okay 86.9 has gone to
2142s 99.2 yep up and it's dropping very nice
2146s you got to stay in combat to keep the
2148s resource
2150s going and that's really what the fighter
2152s is all about is like ramping up being in
2155s M that that combat momentum hence the
2157s name
2158s um and when the fight wow it feels like
2161s that the attack speed is even increasing
2164s each individual ability speed as well
2169s yep that's
2173s huge that is super cool so if you were
2177s to change forms you would lose the
2179s attack speed bonus but immediately gain
2181s the bonus of the corresponding
2187s form
2193s all right there
2195s go so if you want to shift V into um
2199s maybe a form of Solarity here all right
2202s and that is on shift
2205s V there you go now run
2207s around you might have to Blitz him again
2209s you probably need to get some mana and
2211s then build it up a little more but oh my
2213s bad get
2215s Mana but this one increases your
2217s movement speed so this lets you just
2219s move around the battlefield a lot more
2222s um nimbly um so if you need to like you
2226s know close the gap a little bit and your
2228s Gap closers on cool down or whatever
2230s this is a good way of traversing the
2231s field a bit faster yeah wow this is feel
2235s yeah this is pretty
2237s quick that's a significant speed
2246s boost and then the third one is uh more
2249s of a defensive option um bit more
2252s situational uh but it is um a disable
2256s resistance form uh this is form of
2261s fluidity and while you're in it you much
2264s more difficult to be CCD um so you be
2267s more resistant to stuns to Roots um
2271s trips pretty much anything that falls
2273s into the CC C try to try to sleep me or
2276s something sure I'll give a shot there's
2279s a chance that I'll still hit you but
2281s let's see I can't actually I'm in your
2284s party oh okay no it's okay that's fine
2286s all right so this is this is basically
2287s when you want to uh to literally be
2290s unstoppable through CC effects like this
2292s is going to be a 40% reduction on that
2294s that's pretty that's pretty powerful yep
2297s and again all the numbers are kind of in
2299s in tune or being tuned um we just when
2302s we're testing these out we want them to
2303s feel impactful just to validate that
2307s they are you know cool things and then
2309s we start to balance to to tone that back
2312s down very
2315s cool all right all right last but most
2321s certainly not least is an ability called
2326s God mode I mean excuse me what's it
2328s called I'm sorry exert this is uh this
2331s is exert yes my ear I know your segue
2334s actually it's a great segue So speaking
2337s of balance and what will be happening
2339s obviously with Alpha 2 and even before
2341s Alpha 2 we'll be balancing some of the
2343s stuff so just keep that in mind however
2346s segue here into god mode AKA exert uh we
2350s have
2351s what uh so if we go over here to the in
2354s the skill tree to the left exert um this
2357s is a very high cost very high payoff
2360s like essentially like super mode that
2363s you can go into and you're you're
2366s rapidly spending yourone momentum while
2368s you're in uh this form it's all or
2371s nothing you can't turn it off once you
2373s pop this you will stay in this mode
2374s until your momentum is fully drained and
2376s then you're going to have to build it
2377s all the way back up again um meanwhile
2381s you're getting increased attack speed um
2383s you're getting uh CC immunity uh and
2388s whatever else it says in
2389s here we've got 20% increased attack and
2393s movement speed and Immunity to disabling
2396s effects wow
2398s active so if you can kind of draw the
2400s connection this is like you're taking
2402s the three forms which are CC resistance
2404s movement speed and TX speed and getting
2406s just all three of them in a huge burst
2408s for a small window of time very small
2411s yes and that that small window is
2413s potentially as it states here at least
2416s it would be about 5 seconds if you're
2418s fully if you're fully charged up on
2421s momentum because it's it's essentially
2424s ticking at 20% per second is that right
2428s yep um and again all the numbers are
2431s super tunable we will be tuning these
2433s numbers but we're just kind of putting
2435s them in a place where we can play test
2436s them and as we get more effective with
2438s these it's like okay now we're seeing
2440s the ceiling of how powerful these things
2441s are we're going to bring it back a
2442s little bit let's talk about it spec
2445s options yep uh so we've got uh one that
2450s uh resets your cooldowns based on how
2452s much momentum you had at Activation so
2454s if you use this at 50 you know 50
2456s momentum you would
2458s uh take about half of your cool Downs
2460s off but if you use it at full momentum
2462s uh you would reset all your cool Downs
2464s so you could just go straight into your
2466s rotation upon popping this and then this
2469s one is uh uh lets it act as a cc break
2472s as well so this okay I like this this is
2476s a nice com so you get increased uh
2479s combat momentum with movement attack
2482s speed and the immunity to disabling
2484s effects and it becomes a cc break on
2487s activate
2488s if you're under the effects of CC and
2492s depending on the amount percentage wise
2494s of momentum you have available at time
2496s of activation potentially will reset
2499s your ability cooldowns as well this is
2502s this is obviously guys I know a lot of
2505s you out there right now are just
2506s probably going insane in chat and I'm
2508s just going to I'm assuming that this is
2510s where we balance everything's going to
2512s be balanced right this is just the
2514s initial find the fun and and we're going
2516s to to work around round balance here uh
2519s but this is a cool ability this is
2522s literally like
2523s super I am a fighter hear me roar Glory
2529s Be have you used it no I haven't got to
2532s got to show it yeah let's do this let's
2534s do this so I guess in order to properly
2538s do this I should actually set my
2539s cooldowns back do you have it fully
2542s speced I do I have it fully speced Kenan

2553s condemn you and then you'll just like
2554s break out of it after you're full

2793s great the movement the fluidity is there
2796s um it feels really good just to play
2799s with these these skills uh well done
2802s guys well done for Alpha 2 this is
2804s feeling nice uh as a fighter and as
2805s melee obviously that Mobility is going
2808s to be king when it comes to traversing
2809s the
2810s battlefield and and being that
2813s Juggernaut class fantasy feeling um I
2817s think is really captured well here what
2819s do you guys say we take a look at Oaken
2821s ban and kind of uh work through that
2824s area and show people off a little bit of
2825s the world of Vera yep let's put the kit
2828s to the test did you want to talk about
2830s the weapon first oh my God you're right
2833s thank you yes okay you guys obviously
2836s see here we have got a pretty beefy
2838s looking uh sword uh that I have equipped
2842s and Brian and the combat team have been
2844s working a lot on skill prog skill
2847s ression trees for weapons you saw a hint
2850s of that in its very Bare Bones form um
2854s with the ranger update but there's been
2856s a lot of work towards that Weaponry
2858s let's talk a little bit about it um yeah
2862s um so we we've been revamping the weapon
2865s tree entirely so the first point of
2869s progression here is we wanted to give
2870s people a choice in how long their weapon
2874s combo actually is um so you've got the
2876s base weapon combo that you start with on
2878s the great sword which is three attacks
2880s and you can extend that out into four
2882s attacks if you
2883s want in addition to that um both the
2886s third hit and the fourth hit can have
2889s proc finisher attacks and those proc
2892s finisher attacks can um trigger
2895s additional effects on you um such as an
2898s additional heal effect a boost of
2901s momentary attack
2904s speed and I'm looking here I'm looking
2906s here Brian so when I go over to the left
2907s hand side and it has me kind of an
2909s option right I'm unlocking this node and
2911s and selecting down one of these uh four
2914s choices and for those of you who are
2916s watching and and perhaps don't recall
2918s the the the use case here of these
2920s weapon skill trees these are separate
2924s progression trees that
2926s you um that you unlock and Advance
2929s within as you are using and adventuring
2932s with a particular weapon type right
2935s Brian correct um and and yeah they'll
2937s Advance faster than your archetype tree
2939s so you'll be able to level up a couple
2941s weapons as you're as you're going along
2943s yeah and that's a lot of fun to do
2945s actually yeah and and and that section
2948s that you're looking at now it's probably
2949s the most work in progress part um I I
2951s still need to revamp this this passive
2954s section that it's pretty weak overall
2956s but um yeah this this version zero um
2959s you can choose between different
2960s modifications that would best fit your
2962s class you can choose between um a little
2964s bit of deflection bonus um which is
2968s avoidance some I I think crit damage
2972s accuracy so each node you're kind of
2974s choosing a different oh I see very cool
2978s yeah that's
2979s awesome yeah right right now they're all
2981s the same um I'm going to mix up that a
2983s little bit and make it more interesting
2984s with some some different Capstone
2986s passives and such um but yeah this
2989s side's way more interesting way more
2991s fleshed out so what you just clicked on
2992s there is the first proc that you'll get
2995s access to um and you have a choice
2997s between three of these things um the
3000s first is sword master swiftness this is
3002s a temporary boost of attack speed so if
3005s if you get this proc and then you can
3007s instantly use another ability or
3009s continue in your combo if you want and
3011s it'll trigger that next ability all the
3013s all the quicker and to talk a little bit
3014s about you know obviously reiterating
3016s again kind of you know these proc
3018s effects these essentially are the
3020s incentive Loops for
3022s why weapon combo attacks which are basic
3025s weapon attacks are the fillers between
3028s rotational effects because you are
3031s getting you know as you unlock
3033s progression Within These trees you are
3034s getting substantial benefit from procs
3037s that occur by using the basic weapon
3040s combo right I I should speak on that a
3043s little bit more in like a general
3044s concept so we want to encourage weaving
3046s between abilities and weapon combo
3048s attacks and we're going to do that in a
3050s few different ways that you'll be seeing
3051s in this stream uh the first way is arct
3054s type weapon combo interactions you've
3056s already seen some of that where the the
3057s finishers give you a burst of momentum
3060s um and overpower and Bruto cleave get
3062s reduced or reset cooldowns on combo end
3065s as well um the second type of
3067s interaction is weapon combo to Ability
3069s proc synergies such as direct damage on
3071s the next ability hit after a combo
3074s finisher or a status effect setup for
3076s Ability use um and the third version is
3079s ability to weapon combo proc Synergy so
3082s your this is deeper in the tree your
3084s abilities will have a chance to set up
3086s your next weapon finisher with
3088s additional effects very cool that is
3091s awesome so let's see which one should I
3093s go for here I'd go with the swiftness
3095s for the fighter all right let's do
3099s it effect duration
3102s huh yeah that's actually really strong
3104s cuz it's a very short burst of attack
3106s speed so the duration is really good
3108s there and also the proc chance I would
3110s I'd probably max out the proc chance one
3111s in the middle mhm and then uh get the
3114s duration that's probably strongest for
3117s the
3118s swiftness all
3120s right and now I've already gone and
3123s unlocked this path
3125s here of the um Extended
3129s finishers yeah you could probably take
3131s some points out of the uh extra damage
3133s nodes and then put them heard you say
3136s that before this is well it it's it's
3138s only because you're getting even more
3140s damage through the procs
3142s potentially okay it's all more math and
3145s less math right
3148s and and and and another thing here is
3150s all depends on your
3151s build all depends on your build and you
3153s you'll see that more in this next uh
3155s this next choice here which is a lot
3157s more interesting so um that that first
3159s one was like a kind of introd
3160s introduction to the proc system it's
3162s kind of a more just additive uh extra
3166s thing this is kind of forcing the well
3168s not forcing the weaving but encouraging
3169s the weaving a little bit harder so first
3172s we've got a second strike so your next
3175s um your next
3177s ability use after a weapon combo
3179s finisher has an additional damage proc
3181s that occurs and then another Cho a good
3184s choice for DPS is the one right below
3186s that which is uh perfect timing so the
3189s next ability you cast will have reduced
3191s cooldown so it's kind of like do you
3193s care about that reduced cool down for
3195s your rotation or do you not and you just
3197s take the additional damage and the third
3199s option there unfortunately it's not
3200s working yet um this is expanding upon
3204s that status effect interaction stuff
3206s that's what we're working on imminently
3207s getting that built into the weapons but
3209s whenever this is working it'll apply
3211s burning to your Target and have
3212s additional interactions for the Mage
3214s that's cool that's awesome and now you
3217s guys are got starting to see obviously a
3220s lot of these um these progression trees
3222s getting implemented now uh and you're
3225s not just this is not just obviously for
3226s the great swword but you have done this
3229s uh in parody with the other existing
3231s weapon classes for part of a2s entrance
3234s criteria correct yeah that's the one of
3237s the really cool things about our game is
3239s the amount of weapon Choice that's going
3241s to be present um all all the weapons
3244s will be hopefully viable for almost
3247s every archetype um because you can
3249s specialize it in a certain way that will
3251s benefit you and what your archetype role
3254s is um so there obviously be certain
3256s things are better for other things like
3258s a a two-hander is going to do a lot of
3260s damage for instance um but and and you
3263s might want to Shield if you're taking a
3264s lot of the damage but still if if you
3266s want to break that mold a little bit
3268s you'll have you'll have options
3270s available just to expand that on that a
3272s little bit too it's like not even just
3273s inter like you know archetype and weapon
3276s Synergy but also it's like you're you're
3279s You're Building based on your expected
3281s or intended comp that you're off always
3283s going to be or often going to be running
3284s it's like let's say your your friend
3286s rolls a Mage and it's like I want to
3288s build to build with my friend so I know
3291s they are a fire Mage and that's your
3292s where your burning blade example comes
3294s in like there's going to be more stuff
3296s like that that you're just kind of
3297s playing off each other that Segways
3299s really good into the next proc that we
3301s have here so this is um your ability
3304s setting up your next weapon combo so
3307s we've got three options here the first
3309s is Keen Edge so whenever this procs your
3311s next weapon combo will have 100% chance
3313s to crit the next option um which if you
3317s have a Bard in your party you might not
3320s want this one but it causes your next
3322s ability finisher to restore some Mana to
3325s yourself
3327s and then the the third one is and I'm
3331s we're not sure about where this is going
3332s to end up it might get moved over to the
3334s tank tree or the mace tree but it procs
3337s a bit of temp Health on the next weapon
3339s finisher it's pretty sweet tank option
3342s yeah that's pretty good I think I'm
3343s going to go for the key Edge though yeah
3345s that's a solid Choice all attack speed
3348s crit yep yeah I feel like I want to I
3350s want to re DPS beast
3353s mode okay I spe this out now
3357s very cool that's awesome this is yeah
3359s this is a uh I think people you know
3362s just the complexities that you guys are
3363s again talking about like obviously we've
3365s been talking about weapon skill trees
3368s and archetype design you know since we
3371s first were talking about ashes back in
3373s 2017 and and now we're seeing INF
3376s fruition to you know part of the systems
3377s that we are going to be debuting as part
3380s of Alpha 2 you guys are going to be able
3382s to get your hands on this and kind of
3384s give us that active feedback you know
3386s how does this how does this level of
3388s depth and complexity Grant you the
3390s player more granular control and choice
3394s over how your role that you're playing
3397s fits into the greater comp of the party
3401s setting the raid setting or solo
3403s gameplay and your itemization selections
3406s right like all of that is a level of
3408s depth I think that players want to exist
3413s in spacewise because it gives them the
3416s freedom to really Define the way they're
3418s approaching this the difficulty
3420s challenge that is the game um and that
3423s is combat in general um that's super
3426s cool and and especially like this breath
3428s of options right the the the even the
3430s horizontal choices here like that
3433s creates a a very interesting playground
3436s of rock paper scissors effects between
3438s the multitude of arch type skill
3440s progression and weapon type skill
3443s progression um that you're going to
3445s experience even in a PVP setting and it
3447s also is just more levers that we get to
3449s pull on the encounter design section as
3451s well uh for PVE very cool well done guys
3455s this is uh I think I again I speak for
3458s the community when I
3460s say great progress very great progress
3462s and and Alpha 2 is shaping up to be not
3465s just a great testing experience but a
3466s lot of fun I think um you know obviously
3469s the world and the combat design here is
3472s significant the last thing I want to
3474s highlight is um the the work that we've
3476s done on the animation side with the
3477s weapon combos so if you actually do your
3481s weapon combo in place here we can see it
3483s um we can see whenever you get so you
3485s get you got a stab hit there whenever
3487s you get stab hits on the third and the
3489s fourth hit those are actually procs so
3491s if you if you connect with the second
3493s hit of that proc hit you'll receive the
3497s additional effects but you actually have
3499s to connect with a monster or player to
3501s receive the
3502s effect and I think the proc rate is at a
3505s static 25 5% right now um we're looking
3509s at other ways to scale that like maybe
3511s it scales with Stat or maybe it scales
3513s with additional nodes but right now it's
3517s kind of
3523s low especially if you're unlucky like
3525s step I know really what's going on
3528s here come on I'm sure we'll see it in
3531s combat there it
3533s is okay and these these guys
3537s we're still missing some effects that
3538s are going to help Drive um what this oh
3542s my God I'm so sorry I just was like a
3544s Relentless
3546s attack yeah the the momentum and the
3548s bonus attack speed on the great sword
3550s stacking together smoked me that was

3580s the animation a little bit um we made it
3583s work with the like the weight and of the

3591s it's less of a lumbering Beast than it
3592s once was we're kind of leaving that
3594s space for the mace and the axe
3597s but it's it really feels like a sword
3599s now to me it's it's
3602s awesome can I also show off one other
3605s thing the environment team and the
3608s engineering team and Kenan I think
3609s you're part of this as well obviously
3611s between the ability system and the
3612s interactable environments something that
3614s I have not seen happen really very often
3616s as part of uh as part of MMO level
3619s design is destructible
3622s assets we have that in and running I
3624s want to I want to see if I can destroy

3970s to promote that from burning to like H
3972s flag rate in the case that you're seeing

3989s that's a concept that we're applying to
3990s all the
3992s classes um on on the tank we recently
3994s mooved they used to generate courage and
3997s uh apply stagger on every hit we move

4002s is really nice because that allows us to
4004s normalize these effects across multiple
4007s different weapon types and really make
4009s true our promise of weapon
4011s Choice yeah it's like we don't want to
4014s you know put too much emphasis on attack
4016s speed for proc crate and you know
4017s there's other ways to do that you can
4019s normalize chance and all that stuff but
4021s we also just thought like from a
4022s gameplay perspective it is really cool
4025s to like make you have to commit to that

5380s um from MMOs you've played um also just
5385s like how do you feel the fighter plays

5390s what are Fighters that you've really
5391s liked playing in games um and how did
5394s you enjoy them more or or what do you
5397s like that more that you're seeing here
5398s that you didn't see in fighters on other
5400s games like all that kind of
5402s stuff yeah one building on that a bit
5405s one thing I really like is um criticism
5407s from our fans like what like what's
5409s missing what doesn't look so hot um
5412s we're all experienced developers we
5414s could take the heat it's fine you're not
5416s going to hurt our feelings we just need
5417s to know what

5422s critical feedback loop is very important
5424s I think you know one of the things that
5426s is super important anytime you're
5428s offering any critical feedback is is to
5430s be very specific in the things that
5432s don't mesh well or you know that you're
5434s looking to see improved and a lot of
5436s that stuff validates already what we
5438s have you know intentions for as we move
5442s forward in development but um that
5444s validation is important right because it
5446s means that you as the player are
5448s thinking about the same things that
5449s we're thinking about um and and we can
5452s prioritize that stuff obviously combat
5454s being one of the biggest takeaways from
5455s alpha 1 which you can see here we took
5458s to heart and are iterating upon uh and
5461s continuing to develop
5465s it another good thing would be um you
5467s know this is a a half group like how how
5471s did the visuals look like you know the
5473s the fighter effects feel and look really
5475s awesome in my opinion um especially when
5477s you're showcasing them how does that
5479s hold up you know with the Mage effects
5481s in parallel and also the cleric and the
5484s tank like a lot of that stuff you know
5487s how does it look you know when you're
5489s looking at it from a a very controlled
5492s isolated standpoint and how does that
5494s hold up or break down when you enter all
5496s those archetypes together into the
5500s mix you ready for the final
