s | going to be doing one of my favorite |
s | things ever which is an AMA and I am |
s | joined by four of our absolute glorious |
s | content creators within the ashes of |
s | creation Community many of whom you have |
s | probably seen before if you are regulars |
s | in the community watching all things |
s | that are ashes of creation content um |
s | and let's just do some introductions |
s | because I'm I'm excited to get into this |
s | um obviously we have as I said our four |
s | glorious content creators vladis welcome |
s | vladis oh my God it's uh an honor to be |
s | here thank you so much Stephen it's a |
s | pleasure I love your hat by the |
s | way thank you thank you yes I love and |
s | that's merch actually don't you sell |
s | that yes yes I do definitely inspired by |
s | early Intrepid for sure we got some |
s | weird looks when we had that in Seattle |
s | one let me tell you but it was a great |
s | conversation starter absolutely and then |
s | we also have our glorious Jamie chaos |
s | Jamie chaos how's it going buddy not bad |
s | I'm actually really happy to be doing |
s | this on your end instead of being |
s | surprised that it's happening on my end |
s | so I'm super pumped to be here and doing |
s | it this way you mean you're not uh |
s | crashing the the live stream like I did |
s | you one |
s | time that you know that was a lot of fun |
s | actually for those of you guys who don't |
s | know I was watching One Sunday um uh |
s | Jamie Chaos's stream and um they were |
s | talking about an interesting subject and |
s | I just jumped in I was like you know |
s | what I want to join let me let me come |
s | on the show and it was an impromptu and |
s | you I got to say you handled it really |
s | well like than I end up cutting like 10 |
s | minutes of footage on the YouTube |
s | version of that so no one saw me |
s | fumbling trying to get you |
s | on well that you gotta do what you got |
s | to do sometimes um and then we also have |
s | one of my favorites from L Forge Sunny |
s | how you doing buddy hell I'm I'm just so |
s | excited to be here this is gonna be uh |
s | this is gonna be a riot I've got the |
s | other two guys under my desk they're |
s | yelling questions at me so it's just me |
s | on the camera but they are they're here |
s | in spirit I gotta I gotta tell you guys |
s | at lore forg it is it is definitely a |
s | highlight of mine when you guys come out |
s | with some lore videos one because |
s | obviously you know you're giving these |
s | lore videos as you're peeking Through |
s | the Keyhole so so to speak and it's |
s | always so interesting to kind of hear |
s | the takes that you guys put and one |
s | other thing is like the quality is just |
s | so good for what you guys are doing and |
s | I share it throughout the office our our |
s | narrative team our lore team they watch |
s | it they love it anytime there's a new |
s | video so kudos to you guys you do a |
s | great job with that well thank you so |
s | much I think that those guys are are not |
s | ever going to forget that you just said |
s | that but uh we we've been doing it for |
s | uh for a long time and just gradually |
s | got better gear so if you would have |
s | seen us 10 years ago we might not have |
s | been having this |
s | conversation well you guys do a great |
s | job and then last last but of course not |
s | least we have nice gaming nice how you |
s | doing buddy good how are you really |
s | really happy to be here here you know |
s | nice I got to tell you your name is so |
s | appropriate because always whenever I'm |
s | watching your either Recaps or your |
s | theory crafting videos you are just |
s | generally always freaking nice you got |
s | this huge smile it's an inviting |
s | presence and it is it's a positive thing |
s | that um I think is a great Testament to |
s | the content creation of our of this |
s | community you do such a great job on |
s | that really appreciate that yeah |
s | absolutely well I know that you guys |
s | have been getting together some |
s | questions from the community some of you |
s | guys had little interactions with the |
s | communities to kind of vote for |
s | questions I think uh along the way and |
s | you guys obviously have your own |
s | questions and I'm excited to chat about |
s | them um obviously I love a conversation |
s | um I'm also a pin cushion for questions |
s | too so I don't mind that but um you know |
s | wherever you guys want to take this |
s | wherever you want to start I am I am |
s | open to |
s | chat all right well uh I would love to |
s | talk aliens with you Stephen seriously |
s | my gosh can we talk aliens oh my God I |
s | would love to talk aliens yes let's talk |
s | aliens just to give you away from ashes |
s | but again this would be Ash's questions |
s | but okay it's preface um guilds the |
s | backbone of the entire Ash's Community |
s | right alliances and so forth you were a |
s | guild leader in lineage so guilds are a |
s | very important feature in Ash creation |
s | so my first question is can you give |
s | some examples of Guild tools that are |
s | going to be in Ash creation from a |
s | player dated perspective yeah I mean I I |
s | so little fun history I started I |
s | started playing MMOs obviously when I |
s | was really young um seven years old I |
s | didn't have a guild then that would |
s | probably have been uh concerning if I |
s | was in a guild as a seven-year-old |
s | considering the content typically that |
s | exists within the guild atmosphere but |
s | um when I was 17 and started playing |
s | Lineage 2 I my first Guild that I ever |
s | joined was called Darkness I was a |
s | little bit of an edge Lord back then um |
s | so uh so I was in a guild called |
s | darkness and then I I um I started my |
s | guild uh which I ran for a number of |
s | years I think almost 14 or 15 years and |
s | we had we had thousands of members |
s | across the world and we would have |
s | really cool Guild meetings we would meet |
s | up in person we had like a really |
s | intense Guild dkp system where I had |
s | like Engineers custom author an auction |
s | website that people had account services |
s | on in the guild and they would get like |
s | you know dkp points and stuff and I |
s | always hated having to kind of do that |
s | myself right I always wish that some of |
s | the tools that that I wanted to use as a |
s | guild leader were not like native to the |
s | game system that I was involved in |
s | especially if I was able to like slurp |
s | data from the game and inform decisions |
s | whether it be participatory data whether |
s | it be like um you know kill counts for a |
s | war |
s | um or like you know just just just |
s | different things that I would use |
s | essentially to to kind of gauge how are |
s | my members performing right and and how |
s | can I leverage administrative tools to |
s | message them either offline like an SMS |
s | text system or the Forum connectivity or |
s | you know know what their kind of like |
s | playtimes might be if they want to share |
s | those with me so that I can cater them |
s | to certain groups and constant parties |
s | and mix and match people like you know |
s | those types of of layers of like tools |
s | are what I'm trying to achieve with |
s | ashes and having it be native to the |
s | game um and obviously you know everyone |
s | here at the studio are Gamers themselves |
s | playing MMOs many of which uh I've |
s | either have led guilds or been officers |
s | in Guilds um and so you know that |
s | resonates with them as well and and I |
s | know on our UI side um grat who's our |
s | lead UI engineer and Colby who's our |
s | lead uiux designer um you know they are |
s | both very in tune with delivering on |
s | that promise which is to to give native |
s | tools at least at a bare minimum above |
s | and beyond what other MMOs we've |
s | experienced give um as an out-of-the-box |
s | solution for Guild |
s | leaders can you give like a couple of |
s | examples yeah yeah absolutely so um one |
s | of those is going to be able to kind of |
s | message um Guild members offline um |
s | either through integrating SMS text as |
s | an option if people want to subscribe to |
s | that uh feature being connected to um to |
s | forums so that people have an |
s | opportunity to kind of Message Board |
s | within the guild Windows of the game and |
s | then they can see the kind of uh message |
s | of the day they can see the fors through |
s | that window um another thing that we |
s | want to do is provide uh data around uh |
s | player performance in events that the |
s | guild is participating in or that uh |
s | Guild Wars might be participating in |
s | giving knowledge about um uh where they |
s | might have their um uh their properties |
s | located within the game where they may |
s | have their freeholds located within the |
s | game what members of families that they |
s | might be participated in uh in those |
s | types of informations um is what I think |
s | is beneficial for us as Guild leaders to |
s | kind of have insight to and cater the |
s | experience of the member in the guild to |
s | what their play time and activity |
s | is right all right so I've got some |
s | system heavy questions so this first |
s | one's going to be about the story arc |
s | system um we haven't really received |
s | much information on how it will |
s | accommodate players of varying levels or |
s | its level accessibility are the story |
s | arcs designed to engage players of all |
s | levels simultaneously or certain |
s | segments specifically tailored for |
s | high-end or endgame content it it kind |
s | of depends on the story arc we have |
s | story arcs that do both um we have story |
s | arcs that are catered towards high-end |
s | um um uh excuse me high high-end level |
s | ranges um that are very specific to the |
s | types of level venturing levels that we |
s | want players to participate in that |
s | story arc and then we have some story |
s | arcs that have different sections which |
s | cater to a broader diversity of level |
s | ranges um and the way we kind of |
s | approach uh players participating in |
s | those more broader um story arcs is that |
s | the activities of the lower level |
s | players feed up through the story arc so |
s | what they're doing influences even what |
s | higher level players are able to do um |
s | and and you know kind of meeting the |
s | certain quota of objectives that are |
s | necessary to progress the story arc |
s | requires participation down the line uh |
s | across the story arc uh |
s | features so so the chance your question |
s | charlee we have both um okay just kind |
s | of depends on the story |
s | arc all right I guess I'll go next uh |
s | with most Dungeons and pois being non |
s | instanced how large and intricate can we |
s | expect dungeons to to be in order to |
s | accommodate many groups and pvx |
s | potential for example how many players |
s | do you expect the Tower of Carin to |
s | accommodate that's a great question |
s | so let me break that up into two |
s | sections um first it's important to note |
s | that while the vast majority of our |
s | playable areas are within the open world |
s | there are some that are contained |
s | obviously within instances those |
s | instances being either uh individual |
s | instances uh party instances or even in |
s | some C in cases uh raid |
s | instances with that being said however |
s | um part of the dynamic that a pvx game |
s | wants to to emphasize when it comes to |
s | open world uh Dungeons and playable |
s | spaces is the natural friction that |
s | occurs when scarcity is a real thing um |
s | and scarcity means that not all hunting |
s | areas are going to be the same quality |
s | they're not there are going to be |
s | specific loot tables that are relevant |
s | to certain hunting areas there's going |
s | to be certain spawn rates uh that is |
s | relative to experience values for those |
s | areas um and there's going to be |
s | different compositions of mobs uh that |
s | are relevant to the areas as well and so |
s | because there are these kind of tiers of |
s | of quality of hunting grounds that |
s | creates a a rarity value essentially to |
s | those locations of which then there is a |
s | level of scarcity because there's |
s | limited space so we are going to be |
s | creating spaces that are very large to |
s | answer the first party of questions that |
s | will host many many many groups right |
s | and we're also going to have spaces that |
s | are relatively small and might only be |
s | able to cater to one or two groups |
s | um second part of your question as it |
s | relates to Carin uh Carin is broken up |
s | as a hunting area into two primary |
s | sections there is the tower itself and |
s | then there is the wreckage of the city |
s | in which Carin existed um beneath now |
s | the beneath section is is the wreckage |
s | itself is generally catering towards |
s | groups of three to five players right so |
s | it's not so much a solo area but it is |
s | an area where you might go with a few |
s | friends uh but if you went with a full |
s | party then maybe your kill rate needs to |
s | be really high and there's a few |
s | sections that are in the wreckage area |
s | that could support that but not the |
s | entire wreckage right okay um so that's |
s | an important distinction to keep in mind |
s | when thinking about the dungeon itself |
s | the tower uh the tower is intended for |
s | full parties um and there are I believe |
s | six levels there there are five there |
s | are five levels above the base level uh |
s | so six total levels uh that are playable |
s | and each of those levels will support |
s | anywhere from three to four groups um |
s | essentially so it is a relatively large |
s | uh structure um a vertical dungeon that |
s | we're expecting groups to spend a lot of |
s | time in awesome |
s | and it's not intended that the groups go |
s | between levels right it's intended kind |
s | of like they they find a level and they |
s | carve out a section of that level that |
s | they're going to be hunting in and then |
s | another group's going to be near them |
s | and maybe there's going to be some |
s | friction because they keep pulling mob |
s | from your section and you're like hey |
s | what the hell dude get the hell out of |
s | my section and they're like no you're |
s | gonna die now you know like I don't know |
s | something might happen there all |
s | right very cool well it looks like I'm |
s | going to go now uh I am from L Forge so |
s | you know that I'm going to try to cram |
s | in a few lore based questions oh here we |
s | go here we go all right so by the time |
s | the portals reopen the tnar have been |
s | down there for an awfully long time so |
s | are they thriving or are they just |
s | surviving how much civilization are the |
s | toar building underground that that that |
s | is a great question so so one thing I |
s | want to talk a little bit about with |
s | regards to the the the the tar |
s | culture um is that they are not a super |
s | centralized Nation they're not a super |
s | centralized like Civilization right they |
s | are relatively tribl likee citystate |
s | like uh even at some of the higher |
s | points um when it comes to their |
s | factions right and having spent a |
s | significant amount of time in a |
s | indiscriminate amount of time uh at this |
s | stage you may learn more about that as |
s | you get into Vera but having spent an |
s | amount of time in the under Realms um |
s | those factions uh sometimes can be at |
s | odds with each other right um and not |
s | you know not all talar are are going to |
s | be friendly to the other Divine races or |
s | even to each other because of that um so |
s | there's still there's still some rivalry |
s | between those groups um now when we talk |
s | about the you know what is the Apex of |
s | like Civilization that some of those |
s | tribes have accomplished um some of them |
s | have accomplished some pretty |
s | significant uh uh construction and |
s | development uh under in the underr um so |
s | much so where you know you have a |
s | metropolis sized you know location uh in |
s | the underr for the tar um so you know |
s | that's not something that's going to be |
s | present obviously at the start of Alpha |
s | 2 uh but it is an intended um you know |
s | location where you can see really the |
s | tar uh civilization and their culture |
s | very cool thank you |
s | yeah all right I guess I'm up next so uh |
s | can you explain the philosophy on why |
s | there is a singular option for tank main |
s | players or healer main players at the |
s | archetype selection screen and how much |
s | customization will there be in the base |
s | kit and augment system to truly make |
s | these different play styles |
s | well um let me make sure I understand |
s | the first part of the question so you're |
s | saying why is there a single option for |
s | healer and |
s | tank yes um I see I see and can we get |
s | the tank name |
s | changed please please we I think we did |
s | a poll on that in the community at some |
s | point a few years ago didn't we and and |
s | I don't know how that poll turned out |
s | somebody should dig that up if you're if |
s | you're watching in uh in the in the uh |
s | audience see if you can find that pole |
s | somewhere in the Ash's Reddit I'm I'd be |
s | curious to see what the sentiment was |
s | there um but uh to answer your |
s | question um let's start with the second |
s | half of that question when it comes to |
s | diversity um I think that you're going |
s | to have a wide range of diversity that's |
s | afforded through the secondary archetype |
s | system um you know that that is intended |
s | to really you know flirt with the line |
s | of what a main roll tank or main roll |
s | healer is uh and Prov Prov some more |
s | hybridized um uh gameplay for those for |
s | those particular uh roles um that comes |
s | in a number of different forms we've |
s | we've talked a little bit about you know |
s | obviously in the past how augments are |
s | intended to work with primary active |
s | abilities um |
s | and it is because the tank role and the |
s | cleric role are only afforded two of the |
s | archetypes that some of the most |
s | interesting in my opinion options of |
s | hybridization are going to come from |
s | those secondary choices with the tank |
s | and the Healer um so you're going to get |
s | a broad diversity of of of of gam playay |
s | options there um when it comes to the |
s | the role specifically and and you know |
s | why we're servicing those those two |
s | roles with just two base archetypes um |
s | you know those are those are really |
s | critical unique roles on a per party |
s | basis right we talk about party comp you |
s | know generally it is a traditional wheel |
s | of MMO RPG game design when talking |
s | about the Trinity of gameplay roles that |
s | you expect to have one tank and one |
s | primary healer in a party design right |
s | um and we wanted to stay true to that |
s | obviously uh and and you know those |
s | roles do have a significant impact on |
s | General gameplay Loop when we're talking |
s | about momentto moment combat right |
s | between the tank controlling the |
s | battlefield being able to take hate off |
s | of other players being able to maintain |
s | you know aggro status with the the |
s | predominant um threat Source um that is |
s | that is a role that we don't necessarily |
s | want to build in another archetype to |
s | kind of compete with um the cleric |
s | itself however um is also integral now |
s | that's not to say um that we do not have |
s | some influences the fighter has the |
s | ability to kind of off tank especially |
s | depending on um and and the reason I say |
s | that is because when we're talking about |
s | just from a base stat perspective like |
s | con for a fighter is going to be high |
s | generally at at a base value |
s | um their ability to kind of absorb hits |
s | is going to be greater because of their |
s | Suite of of ability selections that they |
s | have available to them um so there are |
s | some other roles that do that do touch |
s | the line a bit uh in in that divide of |
s | DPS to tank roll um and on the Healer |
s | side The Bard has some regenerative |
s | abilities that they can utilize now when |
s | they choose then to spec as a secondary |
s | class option um into cleric or tank if |
s | you're fighter or a Bard you're going to |
s | get much closer to those roles right um |
s | and I think having an off tank is an |
s | interesting you know gameplay option as |
s | and necessary for certain encounter |
s | designs um that we want to pre preserve |
s | space for um so the focus is really to |
s | kind of you know uh stay true to what we |
s | expect from an MMO perspective with |
s | regards to those roles in group |
s | composition we feel that the current |
s | class design achieves that and and and |
s | we're going to allow players to flirt |
s | with what hybridization looks like for |
s | those roles through our secondary |
s | archetype options and and just to |
s | clarify because the fear for me that a |
s | lot of people a lot of people have told |
s | me is um they're afraid from 1 to 25 |
s | that you're just going to get one style |
s | of gameplay like for the cleric you're |
s | just going to be a holy priest from wow |
s | so as in the base kit is there going to |
s | be any way to play differently from even |
s | from 1 to 25 yeah and I I I I think that |
s | um what we're trying to achieve in the |
s | base kit offering for those two roles uh |
s | and you may have seen this already with |
s | the cleric you know uh class uh live |
s | streams that we've done um there are |
s | some offensive options there right and |
s | you could spec more offensively as a |
s | cleric than you would necessarily into |
s | the support the same is true on the tank |
s | side your ability to kind of you know |
s | customize your build options uh you |
s | don't you're not pigeon hold into |
s | specifically that role you have hybrid |
s | options just from a base kit perspective |
s | uh piggybacking on the tank name thing |
s | if we go Guardian you can go Guardian |
s | guardian Juggernaut and who doesn't want |
s | to be a juggernaut |
s | um you know I can't remember what we |
s | were saying but when we were um when |
s | combat was uh was working on The Fighter |
s | um how often I heard in the uh in the |
s | play testing um somebody say I'm the |
s | Juggernaut [ __ ] like oh my God straight |
s | out of exact SL I had |
s | um all right so from our understanding |
s | the land management system in ashes |
s | leads to environmental consequences due |
s | to over harvesting um with the |
s | elimination of the Enemy of the State |
s | feature What mechanisms are available |
s | for node citizens to manage or |
s | counteract situations where a group of |
s | non-combatants intentionally depletes |
s | resources from an enemy node given the |
s | significant downsides associated with |
s | becoming |
s | corrupt yeah um well I mean there are |
s | options right |
s | you have um if if those individuals are |
s | part of a guild you have guild war as an |
s | option right um if they are part of |
s | another node as a citizen you have node |
s | War which is an option the idea is how |
s | do we allow moments of player friction |
s | to circulate through the game's systems |
s | and what you're describing is a moment |
s | of player friction where the resources |
s | local to your node or your guild you |
s | know location are being capitalized upon |
s | by people you don't know or don't want |
s | and they are doing it in an aggressive |
s | manner to harm your ability to then |
s | interact with that environment after |
s | they leave that is a reputation score |
s | they are establishing a reputation score |
s | with you as another |
s | non-faces score circulates through our |
s | game system such as leveraging the |
s | potential for your guild now to be at |
s | hostility with them right is something |
s | we want to to to allow players to |
s | leverage um so there are answers in the |
s | guild war system in the node War system |
s | to respond to aggressive actions like |
s | like Land Management |
s | abuse however let's say the member the |
s | people doing the work are you know alts |
s | and they are not in a guild and they |
s | choose to be citizen |
s | right um the other thing that that we |
s | want to keep in mind is that um there |
s | are ways to improve Land Management |
s | scores there are policies that you can |
s | take which improve that and counteract |
s | that so you know it is not just a zero |
s | sum proposition between somebody's |
s | griefing me and not this now may direct |
s | the way that you choose to govern your |
s | node in response to those outside actors |
s | right this is again intended to engage |
s | the systems so while you may not want to |
s | acrew the corruption yet dealing with |
s | these you know these alts or whatever |
s | right you now may need to manage your |
s | node differently in order to compensate |
s | right um unless it is Meaningful enough |
s | to you to PK those people and you go and |
s | do that that's also an option um so on |
s | the management side would there ever be |
s | a potential policy that allows you to |
s | kind of make an area like say a forest a |
s | purple area or is that something that's |
s | not being considered it it's it's |
s | something we have definitely spoken |
s | about in the past there's advocates for |
s | it on the design team that are more |
s | bloodthirsty uh designers um however |
s | generally I have guarded against that um |
s | at least as it stands for now if we're |
s | talking like you know ashes of creation |
s | you know |
s | first expansion you know number two or |
s | whatever and we want to introduce |
s | perhaps some of the mechanics of like |
s | you know policies that do what you just |
s | described like designate a Zone as as |
s | open PVP or if we wanted to reintroduce |
s | the person non gr you know approach as |
s | well like that I think is still in line |
s | with the pvx philosophy of the game so I |
s | wouldn't rule it out at some point far |
s | in the future uh but generally I think |
s | we have a lot of bloodthirst in the game |
s | currently through the events that we |
s | have through the flagging system that we |
s | have through the Open Seas uh um um uh |
s | flagging Provisions that we've made like |
s | there is a heavy emphasis of PVP in the |
s | game as it rightfully should have |
s | because we are a pvx game and our you |
s | know our conceptually designed |
s | philosophy is you build the world |
s | through PVE you change it through PVP |
s | right like those are those are the |
s | competing factors I I think where it |
s | stands now is |
s | sufficient thank |
s | you all |
s | right what Stat or utility benefits will |
s | active block and active Dodge give |
s | players and what resource or cool down |
s | are associated with |
s | them so the resource is going to be |
s | stamina um we are currently implementing |
s | for the purposes of Alpha 2 a universal |
s | stamina system that all archetypes share |
s | um when it comes |
s | to um active block uh Sprint and Dodge |
s | those will be a part of a universal |
s | skill progression tree that players can |
s | choose to invest points skill points |
s | into um and those skill points will |
s | share with their archetype active |
s | ability and passive ability skill points |
s | as well so if they're going to divest |
s | themsel of further progress within their |
s | archetype in lie of investing in the |
s | Universal skill tree they will have |
s | access to benefits that those Universal |
s | skill tree progressions provide and some |
s | of those benefits do include stat |
s | bonuses when utilizing those Universal |
s | skills some of them include different |
s | types of effects that can only be uh |
s | granted the player through the universal |
s | skill tree as well uh such as the |
s | ability to potentially Parry an attack |
s | um or you know something along those |
s | lines we'll be talking about the |
s | universal skill tree um somewhere |
s | probably mids summerish time frame or |
s | late summerish time frame um because |
s | it's still actively being developed but |
s | the idea is to have that be an |
s | additional knob of customization that |
s | influences the way your character |
s | plays and just as a small follow-up um |
s | do you plan on any archetypes |
s | specializing in those core combat skills |
s | better than others like would a tank |
s | have things in her tree to be even |
s | better at it because it's a universal |
s | progression tree the intent is to |
s | provide interactions with all the art so |
s | it's not going to be you know |
s | specifically more beneficial for one |
s | archetype over the other the intent is |
s | that each of the archetypes will have |
s | some Synergy interaction you know |
s | benefit to their General kit identity |
s | through the universal skill tree and |
s | that's a viable option for you lovely |
s | thank |
s | you okay so during the Alpha 2 fighter |
s | archetype preview we at lore forged |
s | loved the chanting of the mukah goblin |
s | Shaman as they were channeling their |
s | spells so |
s | the question that came up for us was can |
s | we infer from this that there is a |
s | possibility of discoverable dialects in |
s | ashes of creation so first I just want |
s | to say that audio team did a great job |
s | obviously with those incantations that |
s | the Goblins were citing um |
s | and one of the things that still sticks |
s | with me and probably with many of you |
s | there in their community and you guys |
s | here is the games we've played the MMOs |
s | we've played we can probably recall the |
s | like most often said Thing by an NPC or |
s | when we cast and and even like I'll be |
s | playing D and D like tabletop d and d |
s | and I'm Gonna Roll my Dice and I'll and |
s | I'll encant the spell chanting from the |
s | profit in Lineage 2 I'll be like |
s | empowering desire champag you know throw |
s | the dice out |
s | um so you know I think that uh it's it's |
s | obviously very important that we have um |
s | uh not just the the audio component of |
s | that |
s | incantation but memorable ones that we |
s | will hear often and Associate when we |
s | hear you know either the good times |
s | we've had in that game or the bad times |
s | or whatever right um uh so to answer |
s | your question are there dialects um |
s | right now I will be honest with you the |
s | the um incantations are Rel relatively |
s | ad lived right they're not they're not |
s | being sourced currently from a you know |
s | comprehensive dialect library of like |
s | the languages that each of the cultures |
s | have long term I would love to continue |
s | to flesh out the identity of our |
s | cultures through going down that path um |
s | but it's just not something we |
s | prioritize currently as a result of you |
s | know needing to develop the game um but |
s | I will say that win has done a |
s | phenomenal job already in uh authoring |
s | some um uh some great influences and |
s | themes for the sound types that even our |
s | minor factions have so that the audio |
s | team can reference them uh when |
s | authoring the sound effects uh for those |
s | creatures and so um that is something |
s | that while it's not fully fleshed out we |
s | do have references that whenn is |
s | compiled for the major cultures and some |
s | of the minor cultures so far very cool |
s | well I'm sure tolken grandkids are just |
s | kicking around somewhere you could give |
s | them a call and see what they're up to |
s | so all right by the way I apologize this |
s | uh for those of you out there you you've |
s | never seen me probably at my um at my |
s | workstation I am I am actively on the |
s | development floor currently and it's |
s | only because I joined this call two |
s | minutes before we went live um because |
s | it's been a very busy morning |
s | but than that you do get to see now uh |
s | the the development floor this is the |
s | design section so I am in the design |
s | area Okay so this Stephen might be a |
s | very easy question to answer um and I |
s | hope it's a yes um will there be any |
s | kind of a trial quest to test out all of |
s | the secondary archetypes before making a |
s | final decision um When selecting your |
s | secondary archetype at level 25 a lot of |
s | players are fearing that you get to |
s | level 25 and you just have to choose one |
s | and you're not going to be able to try |
s | like the other seven to see what would |
s | vibe with you got it well first I will |
s | say that we do intend to allow players |
s | to switch between secondary archetypes |
s | uh we've talked about that in the past |
s | um so even if uh you do make a choice |
s | there that is something that you can |
s | change it won't be permanent your |
s | primary archetype you cannot change your |
s | secondary archetype you can um with that |
s | being said uh we do not currently have |
s | designs that are intended to provide a |
s | preview period uh for players um you |
s | know maybe that's just more of an old |
s | school kind of thing um I'm not |
s | necessarily opposed to the idea of that |
s | right um giving players um you know |
s | preview um but it's not planned for at |
s | the moment you would you you just kind |
s | of you make your selection you go and |
s | you do the quest and and that's your |
s | secondary archetype and then there's a |
s | quest that you can uh take um in order |
s | to change it uh around so that's the |
s | current design intent is the intent for |
s | changing it going to still be a long |
s | process mhm |
s | MH yeah the intent is that uh there is |
s | some level of investment when you want |
s | to choose to change that class identity |
s | yes okay sounds |
s | good and and just to be clear you know |
s | just to be clear I just wantan to I just |
s | want to comment on why that is you know |
s | some people may say well you know that's |
s | that that feels cumbersome right like |
s | let me let me play how I want to play |
s | which to a degree I agree with however |
s | there is something to be said about |
s | making a choice and that choice having |
s | consequences consequences not always bad |
s | positive um but it lends to establishing |
s | an identity and a reputation right many |
s | times in older games that I've played |
s | older MMOs you know I will see a |
s | person's name and I will know that they |
s | are one of the server's best tanks right |
s | and I don't have to guess what build |
s | they're on that day right it's most |
s | likely they're a tank you know they are |
s | a tank like they can't change that right |
s | um that that provides a different sense |
s | of community when you're on a server |
s | than just everyone can be anything at |
s | any time right um and so you know I want |
s | to try to replicate that by having the |
s | choices be more meaningful um and |
s | provide that |
s | identity sounds |
s | great so Annie and I plan to have the uh |
s | chaos and Lace cartel but we'll probably |
s | be like a smaller gift |
s | so this one's focused around that um |
s | smaller guilds can opt to enhance their |
s | passive skills as a strategic Choice |
s | over increasing membership size could |
s | you elaborate on the passive skills |
s | available to smaller guilds and how they |
s | enable them to remain competitive |
s | against larger guilds in various |
s | gameplay scenarios yeah and and to be |
s | honest like that is that is a delicate |
s | line to play with um because what |
s | happens when you make those passive |
s | abilities too strong then you create the |
s | meta of how Guild structures should be |
s | on this game and so it means that you |
s | know if it's a Zer some choice between I |
s | either take the passives or I'm bad you |
s | know it's like everyone's gonna take the |
s | passive so there has to be some some |
s | complement between you know why guilds |
s | want to have expansion uh options versus |
s | passives and |
s | so passives will be delegated to certain |
s | groups within the guild and the core |
s | groups will have stronger passive access |
s | so when you first form a guild and your |
s | level zero you know you may have 30 |
s | Guild slots available to you right and |
s | that's your core Guild group and you can |
s | move people in and out of that group |
s | because when you get expansion slots |
s | they form separate groups in the guild |
s | structure that might be a knight or |
s | Squadron group right whatever you're |
s | going to want to call it because you can |
s | customize it based on the guilt and then |
s | those groups will have access to certain |
s | types of passives some of the passive |
s | types will be horizontal some will be |
s | vertical and it will be dependent on |
s | where you as a guild member are placed |
s | within those groups and the placement |
s | within those groups are determined by |
s | The Guild administrators right and |
s | so guilds will then spend currency as |
s | well as skill points to invest in those |
s | passives for those particular groups um |
s | and so what we want to do is we want to |
s | maintain the strongest passives for the |
s | central groups and allow it to decrease |
s | in power going outward from there um so |
s | even guilds that select to go |
s | expansionist still have some passive |
s | active passive abilities that they can |
s | spec into but the guilds that choose to |
s | stay smaller they can consert their |
s | skill points towards the more Central |
s | groups leveling up those passives to |
s | higher strengths and those passive types |
s | are things like waterfall stat augments |
s | you know crit rate regen values and then |
s | they can get a little bit more intricate |
s | um with the types of effects that they |
s | have like you know negating uh an attack |
s | uh excuse me a ability a spell attack |
s | against you as a Target every 30 seconds |
s | or something um it it depends on kind of |
s | what we're talking about with the |
s | abilities they they are wide ranging uh |
s | but the intent is for them to be |
s | impactful all right cool I think I might |
s | actually got more people asking more |
s | questions than uh that may that it may |
s | have |
s | answered I think we all want to follow |
s | [Laughter] |
s | up all right um what is the intended |
s | time to kill in both 1 V one or group |
s | PVP scenarios will players in Solo or |
s | outnumbered PVP scenarios have ways to |
s | defeat larger groups or punish them for |
s | stacking too close to each other hey |
s | that's two questions is that two |
s | questions who's counting at this point |
s | yeah okay wait okay so what was the |
s | first question the first question is |
s | what is the intended ttk for 1B ons yeah |
s | for or any PVP scenario whether it's 1 V |
s | one or we you can answer it separately |
s | One V one or group PVP okay so so you |
s | know right now if if if I were to say |
s | average ttk between average leveled |
s | characters and um excuse same level |
s | characters an average SC uh gear score I |
s | would say that we're probably talking |
s | anywhere |
s | from you |
s | know 10 to 15 seconds upwards of 30 |
s | seconds depending on the arch type right |
s | um so you know obviously the more |
s | restorative uh Arch types like a cleric |
s | or whatever might be able to last longer |
s | or a tank might be able to last longer |
s | if they're facing another tank or if |
s | they're facing another cleric right then |
s | it's going to be like a you know Whiffle |
s | bat Fest or something um uh and then if |
s | you're talking about you know two DPS |
s | against each other um that's going to be |
s | real fast um so so I would say that's |
s | that's generally the intent now what is |
s | that mean when talking about like group |
s | play that means that if you are really |
s | organized in the way that you |
s | have um targeting and Target assists and |
s | that you call you know raid calling like |
s | there is opportunities there to have |
s | multiple DPSS take out a Target real |
s | quick right and and because of that type |
s | of precision |
s | gameplay it really raises the skill |
s | ceiling when talking about |
s | organization and how players play with |
s | each other right because now the room |
s | for error is smaller um and that is |
s | something that I think is is important |
s | in any competitive style of game which a |
s | pvx game is relatively |
s | competitive um so that's why we tend to |
s | go on the smaller ttk side um and then |
s | now what was your second question so as |
s | far as like fighting outnumbered like |
s | would players in a smaller group have a |
s | chance to fight a larger group like are |
s | there going to be AOE that do more |
s | damage based on how many people are |
s | within this proximity uh ways to combat |
s | larger groups and not just let sheer |
s | numbers like determine the victory well |
s | okay that's so somewhat connected right |
s | because if we're talking about smaller |
s | ttk numbers then the and the room for |
s | error being less that means that you can |
s | have a scenario where a larger group and |
s | by definition a zerg Which is less |
s | organized less skilled players but are |
s | numbers over |
s | skilled there is now a better |
s | opportunity for the smaller group to |
s | Prevail against the larger group if they |
s | are better organized and more skillful |
s | which tends to be the case in smaller |
s | groups right so intrinsic those two |
s | philosophies are tied to one another |
s | right the shorter ttk and the how do you |
s | solve the Zerg problem well by |
s | definition the Zerg problem gets solved |
s | through |
s | skill all |
s | right okay so I made cash and JB let me |
s | ask an econ question so here it |
s | comes if everything that I have read is |
s | true stating that auction houses markets |
s | player stalls are all EX exclusively |
s | economic node buildings then what does |
s | trade look like in the other three node |
s | types I see okay so |
s | so first we have to vet the |
s | supposition um not |
s | all nodes are absent of markets all |
s | nodes by default have a market building |
s | um auction houses uh as you |
s | described um uh are present within the |
s | uh economic noes so so that is a true |
s | distinction however the market buildings |
s | do provide uh player |
s | stalls um so those are also not |
s | delegated just to economic nodes within |
s | the vicinity of the market and depending |
s | on the upgrades you choose and the level |
s | of your node you will have additional |
s | stalls that are available so players can |
s | uh utilize those in non-economic nodes |
s | in addition |
s | um you can also |
s | use um player shops uh which require |
s | certificates in order to use but once |
s | you have a certificate you can then |
s | place your player shop within the |
s | vicinity of a nodes |
s | Market any nodes market so basically |
s | what that means is um you will take that |
s | certificate and your character will sit |
s | down in place and they will spawn a UI |
s | billboard board above them where you get |
s | to make a brief advertisement of what |
s | your shop is and any player can come up |
s | to you and they can interact with your |
s | character and see your shop that you |
s | have listed goods for and make purchases |
s | as if you were a vendor from your shop |
s | so that's the difference between player |
s | stalls and uh um uh the player shop |
s | system the benefit that economic |
s | nodes uh markets have over non-economic |
s | node markets |
s | is that their player their player shop |
s | certificates when sold from a metropolis |
s | economic note I believe um can be placed |
s | anywhere in the world independent of |
s | Market proximity so you could be at a |
s | dungeon and set up your player shop |
s | there and it's like hey you want to buy |
s | some health pots grab your health pots |
s | and you could you know set up there um |
s | so |
s | yeah very cool thank you that actually |
s | answers quite a bit uh |
s | okay sorry my mind just got blown so |
s | sorry okay uh this is actually a |
s | question from my community it's actually |
s | a pretty straightforward question um |
s | what do note types look like in this |
s | current iteration of the build and will |
s | all not types be available to test at |
s | the start of Alpha 2 uh no not all node |
s | types will be available to test at the |
s | start of Alpha 2 um I can say that |
s | definitively uh currently the state of |
s | nodes um is sign scientific is is our is |
s | our academic or scientific uh what |
s | people will call uh nodes and that is an |
s | election method right that is the that |
s | is the voting |
s | method um we have not yet stood up um |
s | the other node types and it is likely |
s | that at the entrance of Alpha 2 we will |
s | be only using the election method uh for |
s | node mayorship um again Alpha 2 however |
s | is intended to have additional updates |
s | as we continue through Alpha 2 right um |
s | and those will be relatively frequent |
s | and as we test things that are currently |
s | getting developed and implemented we |
s | will put them into Alpha 2 for players |
s | to test um in short order a lot of that |
s | will be node type stuff right because |
s | that's on our uh uh critical path of |
s | priority when it comes to development um |
s | is standing up the node services and the |
s | node mechanisms um uh but for currently |
s | testing what we need to test with |
s | regards to player government the |
s | interaction of the player government |
s | with the build systems the policies |
s | everything that goes into managing node |
s | we're servicing that through the |
s | academic scientific node type and and |
s | just to I guess follow up a little bit |
s | so does that mean that other nodes that |
s | are like military because again they're |
s | all hard-coded right so are those |
s | offline like in it means that it means |
s | that currently they are designated as |
s | scientific or academic um oh they |
s | they'll all be scientific correct now |
s | that doesn't mean that we won't be |
s | testing certain features before |
s | implementing the additional node types |
s | that relate to a militaristic node or |
s | Divine node such as through our um |
s | narrative systems we will likely be |
s | testing and reflecting different |
s | cultural aspects of the node type |
s | through commissions that are available |
s | through the different narrative types |
s | that are available that will be military |
s | Divine and economic um but when it comes |
s | to the government systems that will be |
s | scientific to start |
s | gotta all right so we've learned that |
s | the raid Difficulty adapts dynamically |
s | based off the player performance group |
s | composition in that the dynamic adaption |
s | uh the dynamic adaption raises questions |
s | about the imple implementation of the |
s | adapted scaling during raids uh |
s | especially where there's PVP involved |
s | could you explain if there are |
s | mechanisms particularly during boss |
s | fights that protect players from PvP |
s | interactions such as room locks or are |
s | all raids intended to remain fully open |
s | to |
s | PVP yeah um so as I said when we were |
s | talking about the dungeons earlier it |
s | nice that um some dungeons do have |
s | instancing some boss rooms are instanced |
s | um in those locations yes they will be |
s | serviced either through a room lock or |
s | some other mechanism that you know |
s | protects the the engagement uh the the |
s | environment of that encounter uh to who |
s | is intended to be there but the majority |
s | of our encounters can be interrupted |
s | right they can they are open world and |
s | in those events where you have two |
s | groups that are coming together that |
s | might be at war with one another where |
s | open flagging is not necessary they are |
s | just flagged combatants with one another |
s | they're going to have to manage the |
s | battlefield between what they're |
s | achieving in the PVE encounter right |
s | versus now what they are experiencing in |
s | the dynamic player versus player |
s | encounter um and some of the effects |
s | that we have which allow the victors of |
s | those engagements to continue forward |
s | with the PVE experience is thing like |
s | excuse me are things like stat dampening |
s | through the death debuff and the death |
s | debuff when uh activated multiple times |
s | for the losing party will continue to |
s | stack and it will gain time until |
s | eventually their ability to interrupt |
s | you is now um essentially decimated |
s | through these stacks of debuffs that |
s | they've received through continually |
s | losing the fight um uh and that's kind |
s | of how we intend to service okay let's |
s | let a person |
s | Prevail I just follow up real quick so |
s | is the dynamic adaption only in those |
s | instance ones or is that meant to also |
s | be also be you're talking about the |
s | dynamic AI yeah yeah the D the the |
s | encounter so the encounter design um is |
s | dynamic regardless of if it's instanced |
s | or or not um and and the reason for that |
s | dynamicism first of all there's there's |
s | a couple of approaches to the dynamicism |
s | there um one is it how does the how does |
s | the how does the state tree of the NPC |
s | respond to the actions of the players |
s | well it waits certain actions and |
s | behaviors based off of what the players |
s | are doing and as it waits those things |
s | it makes decisions that will be unique |
s | according to the encounter that's |
s | occurring in front of it so each time |
s | might be different as a result of that |
s | that's one section in addition when we |
s | talk about the Adaptive scaling um this |
s | isn't scaling in like power relation to |
s | the level of the player this is scaling |
s | in the quantity of participants right |
s | and that means that it starts to waight |
s | the behaviors that include AOE actions |
s | higher than others as a result of the |
s | number of players who are present this |
s | intrinsically increases the challenge |
s | rating of the encounter because those |
s | AOE abilities are providing a higher |
s | return on DPS overall to the to the |
s | raate encounter for the for the monster |
s | thanks I'm going to piggyback off of |
s | Jim's amazing question and kind of stick |
s | with the dungeons to a certain extent um |
s | risk versus reward seems to be involved |
s | in all systems do you feel risk such as |
s | death penalties or the threat of being |
s | pked during dungeon content will lead to |
s | players zerging World bosses and |
s | dungeons to minimize said risk thus |
s | triviz in some content and experiences |
s | regardless of that plan difficulty |
s | scaling you just spoke about well um I |
s | think another part of our design that is |
s | more old school but speaks exactly to |
s | this |
s | thought um is that the reward is |
s | finite and what that means is in a lot |
s | of modern |
s | MMOs each person gets their own reward |
s | for |
s | participating and back in the day the |
s | one person was the loop Master they |
s | would interact with the raid boss and |
s | then there would be some Guild driven |
s | system or a lion driven system that |
s | would determine who's next on the list |
s | to get this bow or who's the crafter |
s | that deserves this master legendary |
s | recipe or where does this you know |
s | legendary material go right it's not |
s | that oh everybody got your loot box |
s | because we all completed the boss |
s | together everyone gets the autog granted |
s | reward from the quest of completing the |
s | boss together right right the what |
s | people came for what people came for |
s | that reward the reason why alliances and |
s | guilds organized The Raid to go defeat |
s | the dragon was because the Dragon Boat |
s | dropped and there was only one that |
s | dropped right so the more people you |
s | take the more slices of the finite pie |
s | you have to deliver which reduces the |
s | reward |
s | structure so if you're going to reduce |
s | risk you must reduce reward dude that's |
s | so good I love that I love that that's |
s | so good |
s | good well that sounds like |
s | fun just end the podcast right there I |
s | think uh the mic drop moment I know |
s | right okay so we're gonna we're g to |
s | switch gears here just a little bit um |
s | we all know that the free holds will be |
s | difficult to attain but one of the |
s | alternative ways that we've heard of is |
s | uh to experience the freeh holds is the |
s | guild Freehold is there anything that |
s | you can tell us about the guild Freehold |
s | system yes I can tell you some things |
s | about the Guild of Freehold system |
s | so one thing that we've been uh |
s | discussing on the design side some |
s | things that I've been thinking about |
s | with regards to what differentiates a |
s | guild freeold from a freehold right um a |
s | guild Freehold is not just a you know a |
s | finite piece of space like the player |
s | freeholds are that everybody gets to |
s | share in there are going to be um likely |
s | expandable plots that are available |
s | around the guild Freehold where where |
s | members of The Guild can have access to |
s | themselves that are administered by The |
s | Guild Master or whoever he designates to |
s | administer it he or she designates to |
s | administer it um where players can lay |
s | down an additional small plot of land to |
s | do farming on to potentially do um uh |
s | livestock raising um or to to um make |
s | other Freehold Endeavors so the Guild |
s | Hall is Central to those additional |
s | plots around it of which will be finite |
s | that the guild will determine who |
s | gets very cool one quick followup on |
s | this if you have a Guild Hall can you |
s | still have a |
s | Tavern if you have a Guild Hall yes you |
s | can still have a Tavern those are |
s | separate systems um so so the the T The |
s | Tavern system is administered by the |
s | node um and |
s | the uh node essentially gives out these |
s | business permits uh that are limited in |
s | Supply uh that Tavern owners then can |
s | use to customize the vendor tables with |
s | things that they create for uh players |
s | to interact with within the tavern Hall |
s | and other types of |
s | services very cool thank you yep all |
s | right uh Stephen just a preface uh |
s | you've been teasing Rogue for over a |
s | year so this next question |
s | is about the Rogue so will we see |
s | anything regarding the Rogue prior to |
s | Alpha 2 and more specifically how will |
s | the Rogue stealth mechanic work like in |
s | comparison to camouflage or has that |
s | really been solidified can you tell us |
s | anything new about the |
s | Rogue um so Rogues do have true stealth |
s | um which means that uh unlike camouflage |
s | where proximity matters and identifying |
s | the target uh truth stealth is is not |
s | proximity depend dependant um so that is |
s | something that differentiates obviously |
s | camouflage from the Rogue stealth |
s | ability um I can give some unfortunate |
s | news uh that the Rogue will likely not |
s | be available at the start of Alpha |
s | 2 I know I know um we are choosing |
s | instead uh this is a recent decision uh |
s | to focus more on expanding the existing |
s | Arch types fleshed out active abilities |
s | passive abilities and we will be saving |
s | the Rogue for the first update after the |
s | initial launch of Alpha 2 um so it's |
s | just not going to quite make it for |
s | launch um but it is something that we |
s | will very quickly be standing up as as |
s | as it is a part a key part of the Arc |
s | Type testing uh and Alpha 2 um but yes |
s | that is that is uh can just plan quick |
s | followup then can you give us uh the |
s | list of the Alpha 2 classes |
s | just a just a quick followup um yes so |
s | the the classes for sure at this point |
s | uh are going to be tank |
s | Ranger uh fighter Mage |
s | Bard |
s | um and um did I say Ranger yep yeah you |
s | did wait hold on |
s | here yeah so Summoner so Summoner and |
s | Rogue would be missing at the launch of |
s | Alpha 2 that's correct yes and both of |
s | those will be the first update um right |
s | after the launch of Alpha 2 thank you |
s | Stephen |
s | yep well CL that's what I thank you |
s | there's no healers in Alpha |
s | 2 there's a CL too yes thank you I |
s | thought I named five I'm like wait a |
s | minute there's |
s | six I want to shout out um a Community |
s | member it was a Sonic explosion who |
s | brought this to my attention um so this |
s | has a bit of a longer preface in I'll |
s | move in the question but um Grandmaster |
s | crafting stations are vital resources |
s | located within specific node tiers uh |
s | with access limited to node citizens |
s | this setup implies that Crafters might |
s | be bound to the grandmas stations of |
s | their home node potentially restricting |
s | their crafting capabilities to specific |
s | types could you provide Insight on the |
s | flexibility of the crafting system |
s | specifically whether or not Crafters can |
s | utilize Grandmaster stations outside of |
s | their home node or if they are confined |
s | to the stations within their own node |
s | so um Crafters can |
s | use um stations at any |
s | note um that's that's important to note |
s | right that the difficulty is transiting |
s | the materials you need to the node where |
s | the crafting station exists because the |
s | materials must be present there at that |
s | node but the but the crafter can go to |
s | any node and craft at a crafting station |
s | um the benefits of being a citizen at |
s | the node that has the crafting station |
s | are significantly reduced fees to the |
s | point nearly of nothing um and |
s | additional benefits and access to um uh |
s | um |
s | unique |
s | um unique enhancements to the craft if |
s | you're a citizen right like depending if |
s | there's a relic available that grants |
s | the unique enhancement or something |
s | along those lines um so to answer that |
s | question Grandmaster Crafters can go |
s | anywhere in the world and craft at a |
s | Grandmaster crafting station yeah all |
s | right |
s | cool all right |
s | um what is the current full list of |
s | weapons plann and could we have an |
s | update on how dual wielding will work |
s | such as weapon options and relative |
s | weapon |
s | trees |
s | so um another twofer twofer question I |
s | know talk about Sten I |
s | I I'm seeing a trend here nice I'm |
s | seeing a |
s | trend okay um so a list of of our |
s | intended uh weapon groups at the launch |
s | of Alpha 2 are one-handed |
s | maces one-handed swords wands spell |
s | books long bow short bow two-handed |
s | swords two-handed Spears and dual |
s | wielded daggers dual wielded |
s | daggers and so for the followup to that |
s | with the uh dual wielding portion so are |
s | daggers can we infer that daggers are |
s | the only dual wield weapon and by the |
s | way just just real quick there may be |
s | other weapon types that are present as |
s | well but these are the groups that will |
s | have their weapon skill tree fleshed out |
s | so okay and um the those other types of |
s | me weapons that are present like model |
s | form will likely be categorized into one |
s | of these groups so that they have skill |
s | tree progression until they get updated |
s | with their actual skill tree progression |
s | okay okay and so what was the second |
s | party question I'm sorry um how would |
s | dual wielding work um and so can we |
s | infer that are dagger going to be the |
s | only dual wielding weapon or a one |
s | handed sword one you'll be able to do |
s | yes you'll be able to do one-handed |
s | maces one-handed swords |
s | two one-handed swords um there's a |
s | number of different mixes and matches |
s | they will all use the same dual weapon |
s | progression tree so that's an important |
s | distinction that's what I want to know |
s | um however uh the way we're servicing |
s | dual dual weapons is that they will |
s | occupy your main hand offhand um and you |
s | will have a specific recipe which |
s | includes the previously completed |
s | um uh one-handed weapons that are |
s | intending to be |
s | dueled lovely and one thing I'm seeing a |
s | lot of people in chat ask about will |
s | Shields have their own weapon |
s | tree um Shields will have a yes Shields |
s | will have a weapon tree as well oh no |
s | wait no no do shields have weapon tree |
s | no Shields do not have weapon tree |
s | because they're an offand I'm sorry SK |
s | Shields do not have a weapon tree |
s | they're an offhand there will be |
s | passives within archetype um uh trees |
s | that that Grant to Shield usage so some |
s | some archetypes will have passives that |
s | benefit that in addition there will be a |
s | universal skill progression the |
s | universal skill progression tree will |
s | have |
s | Shield um uh progression within it for |
s | the Block action um so there are two |
s | places where um specking in skill points |
s | will give you more beneficial use of |
s | shields okay I'm done with my 10 |
s | questions that's five times too nice |
s | you're |
s | [Laughter] |
s | cheater okay well I think this is the |
s | last question here and we're going to |
s | end it on a lore question I was warned |
s | not to ask you lore questions and we |
s | totally ignored that so here we go what |
s | is the average person on Vera's |
s | experience with the essence is everybody |
s | using the essence in the same way or is |
s | this something that's more like a rare |
s | gift that us as Journeymen Heroes have |
s | some sort of innate ability to tap |
s | into yes so um Essence the relationship |
s | of essence with the common folk the NPCs |
s | that you see around you um is that |
s | um certain people within this world have |
s | a |
s | greater ability to focus Essence into |
s | stronger effects AKA magic right um and |
s | uh generally among the player population |
s | you are all stronger wielders of essence |
s | as a whole and capable of achieving |
s | great things with it um while everyone |
s | has some Attunement with Essence because |
s | each has a mortal coil amongst the |
s | Divine races not all of them excel in |
s | its use or study right and so those more |
s | commoner people that you might see in |
s | the NPCs and narrative and dialogue and |
s | what not many of them are not going to |
s | be as Adept with the use of essence it |
s | doesn't mean that they couldn't be if |
s | they tried it means that they are not |
s | Adept at using it um but you'll also see |
s | certain characters that are NPC |
s | non-player characters um that are above |
s | and beyond any player character's |
s | ability to use it right um so the idea |
s | is is that Essence flows through this |
s | plane it flows through this universe and |
s | the Divine races have a unique |
s | relationship with Essence um uh when it |
s | comes to wielding it and and and |
s | oftentimes that's the interest of the |
s | darker forces uh uh in manipulating that |
s | relationship very cool thank you for |
s | answering lore questions that's cool |
s | absolutely well guys I got to tell you |

s | questions that you know got some depth |
s | in them for people who've been following |
s | the project for a while and and and |
s | questions like our lore which gives uh |
s | even newcomers some idea of the setting |
s | that they'll be venturing into um so let |
s | me thank you guys uh for joining vladis |
