I will likely get downvoted to hell lol but this is only because I'm passionate about this game, so here goes nothing.
Level design is often a make it or break it for many games. A co-op experience like this desperately needs a set of different level designs, away from the typical traditional "clear point A, proceed and clear point B". Now I don't expect missions of the nature of "Time to save Sokovia" (although that might make one hell of a type of missions for a raid) but, there should be various styles that actually serves a point/plot, and to suggest a few;
Escort/retrieve missions - high-value cargos, equipment, tech-waste that needs a powerful team to protect it from the possible threats. I think this type would totally fit the philosophy of open missions areas they're going for, have The Avengers escort "item X" and kill the waves of enemies that will get in their way before they destroy the "item X". On the other hand, it could work the other way around where the team has to go and retrieve "item X" after clearing out the enemies in their way.
Saving hostages missions - now there are bits where you get to work out a puzzle to save civilians/NPCs, but part of good level design is making it surprising and to create emotion, so how about making a team of 4 players split up, go to two different areas to save the hostages, and those hostages could actually die in the crossfire unless you do your best to save them? This creates beautiful moments of duos, encourages the player to play smarter than just mashing buttons because now he/she got a better reason (saving all the hostages) to pay more attention to the surroundings.
Now I could go with suggestions but I'm sure everyone has something that tackles their imagination. However, none of this will be entertaining to play 45464 times IF IT'S ALL THE SAME. What I mean by that is, the level design and how the missions proceed gets pretty boring, most of the areas are almost empty, and without a minimap, it makes the player often falls in "WTF am I supposed to do exactly?" .. Yes, tactical awareness indicates POI and the objective, but the game seems to focus too much on this through J.A.R.V.I.S rather than visually drive you to it as opposed to what some games do. It creates mayhem especially when you're playing with 3 other randoms who have their own plans, once that's not using mics.
It could be too late for them to change how these missions work and how the levels are designed, but it's never too late to improve little bits, add more stuff around the maps, a minimap that we can toggle in/out, or simply a compass that has the icons (similar to Anthem). Last but not least, please consider going out of the box and surprise us with something other than new heroes or hive missions.. this is The Avengers, we all taking risks. Thank you all.
