Q & A

We hit up some of our devs with questions regarding Firestorm and Chapter 3. (We asked a lot more questions, but you'll have to wait until next week for those answers!) John Stanley, Mattias Hansson, Robert Wyle answered some of the questions below.

  • When will we see an update to the Looting System?
    • JS: 3.1 (Next patch) – There will be an increase in loot spread so that its easier to pick up (improve the issue of stacking). We will continue to investigate other designs to make the looting the best it can be.
  • As the Tides of War Weekly Challenges are tied to Firestorm, what if someone doesn’t want to play Firestorm? Why isn’t there another path/option to get ToW XP?
    • JS: This is our brand new royale mode and the challenges serve as a great way to introduce you to the mechanics of Firestorm. To complete the Week's Challenges, there is a track which allows for minimal Firestorm play:
      • Earn 1,500
      • Earn 30,000 score in any game mode
      • Kill 30 enemies in any game mode
      • Heal yourself or your squad mates for 1000 health
  • Why is the XP so low for Firestorm?
    • MH: We've heard your feedback and agree with you. We're looking at balancing this in one of the upcoming updates.
  • Would you ever make Firestorm a night map?
    • MH: No plans right now, but that sounds like an awesome idea!
  • Will you be adding scopes/attachments to the weapons?
    • MH: This is something that we’re looking into right now, but we’re not ready to share timeline at the moment.

Wasn't there supposed to be a dev talk last week? Or did I just miss it?

Check the Weekly Debrief. It’s there.

This was a good week, although I was pretty disappointed with no updates to the cosmetics with firestorm. Everyone who is at least a little bit invested into this game knows that you are holding back a lot of good looking cosmetics that certainly took a lot of time and effort for the devs to make.

I think we all would really appreciate at least some kind of acknowledgement to the draught in cosmetics and more rare cosmetics in the armory.

We know you guys can do better than what we are experiencing right now.

They’re coming.

u/Braddock512 so much for engaging with the community. You guys wanted feedback, this is feedback. I’d love to have a positive, engaging conversation with you amazing people at DICE but you close your doors to what is really happening at DICE. Let our voices be heard, and let real community feedback be recorded.

It’s the weekend. I’ve been busy all day with personal things - buying a car, spending time with my wife, etc - so I haven’t been responding on Reddit or Forums or Twitter, really. (And let’s be honest, an expectation that I work 7 days a week is a bit out there. That being said, I do try to respond on occasion, but this is my job, and I am passionate about it, but everyone needs/deserves some downtime.)

Now, regarding your point. I submit daily/weekly reports to the studio team and literally every report includes the topic of content - maps, customization, community tools, etc. There’s information coming next week related to customization as well as Battlefield Currency, plus we have an update coming. I know the team is working on updating the Armory - but I don’t have the details on what/when yet. That’s something I’m going to dive into when I get back to work on Monday.

Oh, and I didn’t downvote you, if that comment was directed at me in your previous post. I literally didn’t see your reply until you tagged me in this one.

I am probably in the minority but I am just not a fan of Firestorm, battle royal, or just free for all game modes in general. Just hoping you guys add more to the core game, additional maps for the rotation and really hoping for 64 player rush. Fingers crossed.

We have a lot planned for both Battlefield V “vanilla” and Firestorm. The roadmap has a details of the next two chapters, and we’re bringing something big in Chapter 5.

Please let me lock my match making to my region. I'm in Australia and constantly getting put into overseas servers for solo games. Is there not enough servers in Australia, or not enough people playing solo? [PS4]

Squads seems ok

Australia has servers in SYD, but if not enough are matchmaking into solos at the same time, it currently makes you ping a different datacenter that is more active. The teams are aware and working on solutions.

Let me ask you this, hypothetically: If it too longer to matchmake (and potentially less players on the server) but you had better ping, would that be a better trade off? It’s a legit question. I’m trying to help identify solutions as well.

I think the Firestorm moves inward too quickly at the beginning of the round, and by the end the speed is acceptable but does too little damage if you are in the storm. I feel like these things should be adjusted slightly.

I believe the speed at which the firestorm starts is being adjusted with the next update. I’ll definitely share the comment on damage. (I kinda agree. If you’re caught in a blazing storm, it should wipe you fairly quick. On the other hand, you should be able to escape it for a high risk-high reward move.)

Never would I intend to interrupt your personal life, I want to make it clear that was not my intent. I understand that everyone is human and needs breaks at times, that much is common sense. However, the “lack of communication” that I’m addressing is in the long run. Cosmetics, for example, have been teased since the first days of BFV, but not once were we given any info or even a rough guess on when it will come. (Friendly reminder it has been a few months now) And now we’re here, waiting hopelessly for content that is almost a myth at this point. The same is for Boins, but I’ll cut it short. The main idea is that you can’t keep advertising things that will continue to get pushed back as the days roll on. I truly hope that the catchphrase “Soon” won’t be a standard to follow. Vagueness isn’t the answer, and is exactly why BFV has been less successful than its predecessors.

I appreciate the response, enjoy the new car and drive safe.

(I also don’t recall saying that you downvoted my comment? Sorry if that was the message you picked up, I dont really care for imaginary internet points)

Right on. And I understand your frustration. To be honest, there’s a lot of information I’ve been wanting us to share. And we are getting better, but we should be great at it by now. We’re internally working on improving processes and structure to get more details and info to y’all faster, with less red-tape slowing it down. But as you’ve said, we’ve talked a lot about stuff “is coming”. It’s time we show it. So I’m not going to drone on about “we’re going to be more communicative about XXX, YYY, ZZZ”, we’re just going to do it.

You have a good weekend, buddy!

Kinda offtopic but congrats on the new car!

Thanks. My wife loves it. It's a 2019 Mini Cooper 4dr - black, with black alloys, and black interior. Her car now matches my HD motorcycle.

Is there going to be a This Week in Battlefield post for the current week of 4/1? Anxious for news of an update! :D

I'm working on it, but there's some items that are still pending, so the TWIB will be a work in progress as we confirm items.

Nothing I can share yet, but our UX/UI teams are looking at options.
