Hello everyone,

It’s been awhile since we’ve had an in-depth discussion on Community Games, and this broadcast will provide all of the details regarding what to expect from this highly requested community feature.

To recap the news shared a couple of weeks back: Based on the feedback we’ve received from the Battlefield community, we’ve decided to rebrand this feature as Community Games to better reflect the experience we’ve built.

Throughout the year, we’ve presented the vision that we had for Community Games, and today we can discuss the complete feature set that we’ve developed. By the end of this Broadcast the goal is that you’ll be clear on what you’re getting.

The features listed below will be coming December 9, 2019 and we’ll be back in the New Year with an update on the continued development of Community Games.

Community Games are specifically designed for players who want to create a more personal experience in Battlefield V. Whether you are a content creator that wants their own space to create great stories, or you simply want to create a playlist of your favourite maps for you and your friends, this feature has something for everyone.

Make use of the custom filter system within the Server Browser to search through all of the Community Games that have been created by other players, allowing you to find the experience you’re looking for.

Personalize your Community Game with your own playlists that allow you to pick the number of rounds in your rotation and mix up the game modes (if they share the same Player Count). Choose from the list of available maps, and store all of your choices in your own set of preset configs that you’re able to save for future use.

Protect your experience with a password, or make use of the server kick functionality so that you can more closely control the experience that’s shared by your own close-knit Battlefield V community.

We set out to build Community Games in a way that allows players to have more agency and ownership in Battlefield V, and get into the matches that they want.

  • Find the right experience for you - Browse games with a custom filter set to your needs. Want to focus only on Rush? Find Rush 24/7 matches created by the community with Community Games.
  • Create a personalized experience - Create your own playlists and store them in your preset configs which can be saved for future use. Saved playlists can be applied when you create a game, allowing you to hit the battlefield faster.
  • Create a safe play space - Protect your experience with a password. Kick and ban functionality is in place so that you can build a happy community of players.
  • Play some of our time limited modes - Even when your favourite time limited experience is out of rotation, you can keep playing via your own server. (Grind and Fortress are currently not available. These modes are technically built as variants of existing modes and won’t be available in Community Games next week).
  • Continue your Battlefield journey - Weapon, vehicle, and rank progression will all stay active on non-password protected servers* so you can continue your journey.
  • Struggling to find what you’re looking for? Create your own Community Game, communicate it with friends and through social channels to keep playing.

 Community Games Feature Set

  • Create, delete, update, and name one or several configurations
  • Create and join a Community Game
  • Automatically generated server name
  • Choose game size (16, 32, 64)
  • Choose how many rounds the server should play (max 20)
  • Choose the mode
  • Choose the maps
  • Choose a password (between 3-8 characters)
  • Choose the pre-round size (how many players are needed to break out of pre-round) → Minimum of four up to whatever the game size dictates
  • Kick players from the server
  • Ban and manage banned players (session only)
  • Special Community Games filter in Advanced Search

\Password protected servers will not feature any form of progression. All other servers will allow Soldier progression. Tides of War activities and Chapter Rank XP will not be earnable through Community Games.*

With Community Games, we wanted to give our players the toolset to share the Battlefield experience with their friends. As noted, we are bringing Community Games on December 9th, 2019. We’re really excited to see what you think once you get in and create your own experience.

In our Community Broadcast earlier this year, we touched on additional features when discussing our Community Games plans. We’ve had to rescope this feature and the above listed items will be what is included in the first release of Community Games. The features listed below are not coming in the initial release of Community Games, but we’ll be back in the New Year with more information on the continued work of Community Games.

  • Set custom name for the server
  • Set description for the server
  • Control what classes are available
  • Control what weapons are allowed
  • Control if vehicles are allowed
  • Control if the kill cam will be displayed
  • Turn friendly fire on or off
  • Turn regenerative health on or off
  • Change soldier tags as visible or not
  • Enable or disable third-person camera view
  • Enable squad leader spawn only
  • Enable or disable aim assist auto rotation
  • Enable or disable aim assist cooldown
  • Control bullet damage scaling
  • Control game mode ticket scaling
  • Control soldier and vehicle respawn timers
  • Turn the mini map on or off
  • Enable or disable the compass
  • Manage list of moderators
  • Manage list of VIPs
  • Apply an authored pre-set config to a Community Game - Vanilla, Infantry only, DICE-authored etc.
  • Have your name highlighted in chat if you’re the owner of the server
  • Administer and manage server settings in the main menu or via our Community Games web portal
  • Have the description of your Community Game presented on the loading screen
  • Manually switch specific players between teams
  • Report Community Games in the advanced search screen

So dive into Community Games on December 9, 2019 - make your playlist, invite your friends, and “kick the tires”. And don’t forget - Wake Island is coming December 12, 2019.

We’ll see you on the battlefield.

How does Chapter XP work with Community Games?

All other servers will allow Soldier progression. Tides of War activities and Chapter Rank XP will not be earnable through Community Games.

ToW and Chapter XP is not earnable through Community Games.

Chapter XP? Just set a cap.

Yes, boosting is always an issue on these servers. My community has run servers back to BF3 and boosting is a concern. Even if you cap it, someone could start a server and boost up...delete that server and move on.

That being said, I think there are logical ways around this issue that perhaps DICE would consider going forward in future versions of Community Games.

- Password protected and Non-Stock Servers do not receive solider XP, ToW or Chapter XP (Much like the BF1 model)

- Servers would need a specific population count before XP would be enabled.

- Put creating servers after deleting them on a cool-down timer

These are just some ideas off the cuff without too much thought. I know there is a way around this is the point I am making, I am hoping DICE reviews this and changes course in future versions.

The next update of it will give to everyone the opportunity to use those settings or there will be a free base and a paid one?

As stated in the blog, we’ll have more info after the New Year.

I wasn’t being dismissive. The person I responded to said they wouldn’t be able to play Frontlines after next week. I informed them they could start making Frontline Community Games on Monday.

Well they said some will be paid but definitely not all, probably the VIP list for example? That would make sense

At this point, there’s no confirmation of a paid version. All the features listed (the ones coming Monday and the ones listed below) will be free.

u/Braddock512 Duly noted.

Tough sell when communication is misleading at times and not addressing the most topical concerns. Your lot is not to blame for decisions, but that is not to say there is no room for improvement in what you can control.

Hope all is well and the s/ comment above was not taken as anything more than blowing off steam.

I understand. We have a meeting going on Monday morning to talk about the progression feedback we’ve seen (and Adam and I knew this was going to be a thorn in folks’ side.) We’ve taken some suggestions - half-XP, standard settings, etc as examples of what the team could do regarding ToW XP/Chapter XP, and are writing a report for that meeting to see what can be shifted/changed.

What modes currently support 48 player count? (This isn’t me being sassy, I promise.) Mutators are something Adam and I know the community want. (And something I’m pushing for with the continued development after the New Year.)

You earn Soldier XP and Weapon progression unless the server is password protected.

Please please please make “players needed to break pre round” to 1 on password protected servers so we can conduct testing on vehicles.

Vehicles are the most complex aspect of battlefield and understanding how damage works and being able to provide the community with vehicle stats is much needed. There’s no practical way to do this right now with Practice Range only having a few vehicles and vehicle weapons.

Since vehicles can’t be spawned into until preround is broken the current minimum setting of 4 prevents people from doing solo testing or even testing with a buddy.

Totally understand and agree. I have a lot of thoughts on what should/shouldn’t be allowed on Password Protected servers based on feedback from Competitive gamers and content creators over the past few months. And we’re sharing this feedback with the team.

So if you have a server rented and the only thing you do is have a custom rotations (eg infantry focused, tank focused, etc) with no other changes or restrictions made, no progression?

No, that's not correct.

If you create a Community Game, you can create your rotation (maps/modes) and as long as it's not password-protected, you'll be able to complete assignments, earn soldier rank (up to rank 500), weapon rank, vehicle rank. At this time, Tides of War progression (completing nodes and earning ToW XP) and Chapter progression will not be available for Community Games.

Isn't it also limited to 20 matches?

This whole thing feels like a feature built solely to say "we gave you the private servers you wanted", regardless of how far from reality they are.

Dice.....masters of crying about limited dev time, than wasting said time on features no one asked for, or completely gimped ones.

The 20 matches thing means after 20 matches, it rotates back to the beginning of your rotation.
So if you create a playlist that has a 20 map rotation, when you get to the last map, the server doesn't disappear, it just starts back over at the beginning of your playlist.

Some other RSP questions i have

  • Can you play TDM 64 if you wanted

  • Can you play CQ 32 if you wanted

  • Is Final stand available (i only played that mode once)

  • Can we setup Firestorm?

  • Why can't we earn TOWXP/Items on RSP? we can do the assignments on COOP lmao.

  • When's the rest?

  • When you create your Community Game, you'll select the server size. The modes available for that server size will be selectable to apply to that Community Game.
  • See answer above.
  • No, Firestorm, Airborne, Grind, Fortress, and Combined Arms are not part of the mode/experience options.
  • I'm trying to get an answer to that to share with the community. (Also pushing for a compromise on earning Chapter XP/ToW Progression in vanilla Community Games/basic rulesets.)
  • Next year. We'll have more details on the Community Games Roadmap after the holidays. (Don't have a locked date for the next Community Broadcast yet.)

Man, I'm dumb. I guess it was just my mind trying to find something good that came out of this update. But the real question is, why make a giant list of things not coming?

The list of additional features was included in the Community Broadcast today because it was in the original Community Broadcast. Adam and I were focused about being trasparent about the features not coming yet so as to improve transparency on the continued work going on with Community Games.

There's no "vote kick/vote ban" feature in either list at this time. The Admin/Community Games creator will decide

Fortress and Grind aren’t independent modes. They’re alterations of Conquest. I’ve asked the team when/if we could expect to get them added in the modes available for Community Games. The details I received (that helped craft the Community Broadcast) are that “these modes won’t be available for the initial offering of Community Games”.

What is the point of feedback if you never listen to what we have say?

We do listen. And we share that feedback with the Dev team. And they take the feedback and the analytical data and the vision they have for the game and make decisions based off of it.

Listening doesn’t always mean doing what you ask/demand. It means taking your feedback/requests and seeing how it can fit in the plans they have for the game. Sometimes those two things gel and sometimes they don’t. And sometimes the plan gets changed to more align with the requests.

And while there’s quite a few comments/conversations here on forums and Reddit, it’s not wholly representative of the entire community. So that must be taken into consideration as well.

But if all those bullet points are actual goals that the Community Games team is striving towards bringing to BFV this looks like a well thought out successor to RSP and you have my stamp of approval. I'm sure you know I've been looking forward to it for a long time.

For sure, RHG. And hopefully we can add some more bullet points to it before it's done. ;)
