It's possible he means stupid from a development perspective rather than a balance/gameplay one. It's possible they didn't design the system well and so they'd have to redo it in order to add new weapons.

I wonder if he is referring to the default era-locked weapons that they all have the same stats. That's got to be it right?
Coming from someone that used to be an SA main, this indeed always felt very stupid to me.
On Starfighter Assault, every ship has different stats and 'guns' and different abilities between eras. The Rebellion Fighter (X-Wing) is very different from the Republic Fighter (ARC-170) for example. So you have much more variety. Whereas on the ground modes, a CIS Assault is 100% identical to a Rebellion Assault - same stats, same guns, same everything. I never quite understood why both types of gameplay are balanced so differently, other than being made by different studios, they still would have to be cohesive.

sure, they could be different weapons with different stats, but how many of them are you actually going to use? They'll all play pretty much the same, even with small differences
And that's the problem, IMO.
