The good:

  • most importantly, the game is a lot of fun. I am having a blast trying all of the gadget/specialist/Plus system combinations with my squad. The base gameplay is very solid
  • The large scale chaotic tactical warfare we all know and love from the modern battlefield games of old is back.
  • The map is great and has a lot of nice verticality to it with the buildings and slopes. I really don't think it is too big.
  • Vehicle balance is pretty good. They are powerful, but easy to detect and get blown up especially since anyone can carry anti vehicle tools now.
  • The plus system is super convenient and lets me change what I need to instead of having to change stuff up when I respawn. I like equipping a long range scope while scouting, then using iron sights when running into a building.
  • Graphics are wonderful. Not a huge step up from BFV, but it looks very nice.
  • Seems like it is more optimized. My PC got a little cooked when running BFV but 2042 on equivalent settings it has no problems.
  • The dying screen feels more snappy than BFV and you can get back to battle faster.
  • The tornado is awesome and appears at a low enough frequency that it feels special.
  • controls and movement feel good.
  • I love the ability to carry any weapon's and items you want. There are so many good possibilities and builds for squads now because of it.
  • Specialist abilities and gadgets are really fun. I like the drone and the grappling hook
  • Player run speed makes the huge maps very traversable. People who complain about them being too big are probably too used to CoD and can't wait 15 seconds in between firefights (Try playing BF2 with a sprint that needed to recharge and no vehicle spawns nearby)

The bad:

  • The hud messages are SUPER annoying. It looks like a giant ad banner and is always accompanied by a Ultra annoying rattling noise. Please DICE just remove them and put these messages along with the other smaller messages on the side of the screen and out of the way. without the horrible sound effect.
  • Hit reg. and netcode seems bad, probably just due to it being in beta
  • I really dislike the specialists from a character and aesthetic point of view. Its kind of annoying to see a huge army of clones everywhere especially when you are able to fight yourself. I really wish they were just a "specialist kit" that you could equip to a custom character. This might be bad though for instance, right now you know if you see Wikus prone he probably knows you are approaching him. whereas if it were just anyone else with the motion tracker you wouldn't know they have a motion tracker. This problem will probably be lessened a bit as more cosmetics and specialists are released.
  • I feel like guns need to be a little more different from another (Damage falloff, Range, Velocity, Fire rate...). Right now the plus system makes all guns useful at all ranges and this will probably end up in everyone just picking the best one and only using it.
  • Tactical sprint has no downside in comparison to regular sprint.
  • There should be more lag after sliding and after Jumping. This isn't CoD
  • Wow the game HUD messages are terrible!
  • Minor nitpick: 3rd person camera use for takedowns and deathscreens feels weird and would probably be better as all 1st person, but it doesn't ruin the game by any means.

The Bugs I've noticed:

  • While prone in a bush I keep autocrawling forwards and then rubberband back.
  • Wikus' drone wont launch from a bush
  • Wikus' drone gets stuck in the ground
  • Drone spotting doesn't contribute to the ribbons.
  • Got DC'd a few times
  • Can't view map while in play
  • Some weird ragdoll clipping spasms when characters die in vehicles
  • rubberbanding on jets and other fast vehicles.
