So as people know right now compared to yesterday zombies weapon exp rate seems incredibly slow. What's really happening though is that the weapon exp rate in SOLO is bugged and is actually progressing at a third of what it should be. If you play in COOP you'll instead experience the actual weapon exp rate which while slightly slower than how broken fast it was yesterday is still pretty good.

For comparison I've leveled three weapons. [Test on Private solo vs Public Coop]

  • (SOLO) Spas 1200 kills with the insane weapon exp rate from Yesterday [Level 35]
  • (SOLO) RPD 1179 kills with the incredibly slow weapon exp rate that people are complaining of from Today [Level 11]
  • (COOP) M60 1220 kills with what the dev's are claiming to be the fixed exp gains from Today [Level 31]

As you can see if you want to level weapons right now in zombies you should be playing coop with other people until Treyarch can fix the solo weapon exp rate that people are experiencing right now.

Update 1: The same RPD after playing pubs and getting an additional 1727 kills, did pass Round 30 so unsure if the 30+ round exp stall exists or not

Update 2: Played a private coop game with 2 friends and seemed to get normal xp gains when compared to just public coop games. My Type 63 was level 6 before the run and finished level 31 after 30 some rounds (We went up to 51 but I stopped farming with it after 30ish.). And in that same game another friend who joined late at Round 5 seemed to level stall on his weapons despite using them the entire session, not sure whats the story here but idk. (Turns out he was leveling a 30+ level weapon which might explain the exp stall for him.

Update 3: People keep asking me what platform I play on, I play on pc with no extra exp modifiers active outside of the regular double weapon/level exp.

Update 4: Just did two more tests on two fresh weapons. The KSP45 with 1234 kills in a Private 2 man Coop exfilled at 31 only leveled up to 21 and the QBZ-83 with 1012 kills in a Private Coop Solo self killed at round 26. How theres such a huge difference between 4man pubs and Private games I dont understand I'll have to test another 4man pub to see if the results are consistent with my last findings. Video evidence of the the KSP45 and QBZ-83 leveling will be uploaded later.

Notes: Theres potentially an exp sink after Round 30 where exp gains are almost nothing, and joining late into a game at any round kills exp gain.

Note 2: Someone commented in this post that the amount of people in a lobby will also help increase weapon exp gains which seems consistent with the results I've found so for now stick to 4 man pubs for proper exp gains.

Updated TLDR; just play in fresh started public/private coop zombie game and you'll level up weapons at a rate of 90% of yesterday's insane weapon exp rate. Avoid playing Solo at all costs if you want to level your weapons.

Updated Updated TLDR; Forget what I said in the last tldr if you want to keep leveling weapons stick to 4 man pubs and avoid Solo like the plague the exp rate should still remain at 90% if you do exactly this.

Hello, thank you for the tag and to all the others who tagged here too.

I spoke with the team, and we have identified an issue that was causing lower than intended Weapon XP in both solo Zombies matches and later Zombies rounds. We are looking to release a fix for both of these as soon as possible.

Hardly the case of not taking it seriously. Discord is much more informal, and I was chatting with people I have been talking with for months on end. Thus my approach was much more conversational than cut/dry as you sometimes get here on Reddit.

Taking it seriously means that I did exactly what I needed to do. I shared what the team had to share, and then I kept them updated on the community sentiment and conversations. The team investigated and found actual issues. We'll be fixing them, and we'll have more 2XP events in the future.
