24s	have uh with us with us in the BR
27s	Community but let's go to the let let's
30s	go to the introductions Ryan can you
33s	explain to us uh who you are and what
36s	you do in supercell nowadays yes my name
39s	is Ryan I'm super happy to be here with
41s	this uh wonderful group I'm the
43s	community lead at supercell back in the
45s	old old days I was a community manager
48s	on brawl talk I hope some of you still
50s	remember me and they do they do good and
53s	uh dearly miss it and glad to be
55s	back and then we have Marcio that has
59s	just joined the team as well can you
61s	introduce yourself to the community of
63s	course of course um so yeah I'm Marcio
65s	some of you already know me I joined the
67s	braw team six months ago more or less
70s	and uh I'm Den his new partner partner
72s	on the apartment
75s	apartment on the community team and uh
78s	yeah like super glad to be here a little
80s	bit nervous but let's go let's do it and
83s	then we have Paula like maybe like now
87s	Paula has like this uh emotional charge
89s	with her because of the last episode
91s	right but uh I noticed you had to check

106s	killed Ryan and replaced Ryan in bro and

117s	almost three I guess and now I'm I'm in
120s	Squad Busters which is a new game uh
122s	that is not released yet but it will be
124s	at some point so yeah happy to be here

137s	creative content creator we have is that
141s	accurate where are they I don't know are
144s	they no you're hyping me up way too much

155s	one of the beta uh back when Ryan was
158s	still being awesome I mean he's still
160s	being awesome but you know more awesome
162s	back then because we could see him all
163s	the time um also Ryan now that you have

201s	start with you have something in mind
203s	yeah man the brawl Community is so
205s	amazing in so many ways I've been a
207s	gamer my whole life and I've honestly
209s	never seen a community that's so
211s	supportive so engaged so interested in
214s	the game and so also understanding of
217s	everything that the the dev team is
219s	doing um we've had tons of ups and downs
222s	good updates bad updates Lex remembers
225s	through the beta was a was a rough 18
227s	months but the community the whole time
229s	that I've seen has been really engaged
231s	really interested and also just
233s	understanding and supportive truly an
234s	amazing amazing
236s	Place how about you Paula I I don't know

242s	that no but it's true it's really really
245s	amazing and you can you can easily like
248s	compare it to any other community out
250s	there and and they are so they are so
252s	kind they were so kind from the start
254s	like when I joined and I as as we said I
256s	replaced Ryan and it was a big shoes to
259s	to feel right and I and I had all this
261s	pressure that I put on myself but then
263s	like when I when I actually was there
266s	and I got introduced they were the
268s	kindest and like the most positive and
271s	like welcoming so it was it was really
273s	cool and I think we really really lucky
276s	yeah it was the the same thing for me
277s	like I was right before we were like
279s	posting the announcements I was like
281s	super nervous I I didn't know what to
283s	expect but then actually people were
285s	super welcoming and I was just like so
287s	glad and I already knew a bit how the
289s	community was and uh it was just like
292s	happiness happiness like seeing all the
294s	nice comments all the fan art as well
296s	like thank you for that as well and uh
298s	yeah just super surprised it was like a
300s	different world yeah how about you
303s	Alex I think that one of the things
305s	that's always striked me as crazy about
307s	or maybe not crazy but awesome about the
308s	community is that a they're extremely
311s	passionate sometimes for the good
313s	sometimes not for the good sometimes too
315s	they're they're always just like really
317s	passionate as as well as they're
319s	extremely knowledgeable about the game
321s	like I I'll see stuff on Reddit that I'm
323s	like I didn't even know I've been
325s	covering this game for almost six years
326s	and I'm like I didn't know I didn't know
328s	that it's like they they r Cyrus's brawl
331s	nerdiness which is pretty impressive so
334s	like their knowled and their passion is
336s	pretty pretty awesome yeah like
338s	following what you said about like uh
341s	that you you didn't know like how they
343s	would react to your introduction and I I
346s	I have the feeling that the community is
348s	like so positive on like when when we
350s	announce like a new person in the team
352s	that I wonder like if he can announce
354s	anything like because I I said like a
357s	yesterday I tweet that um
360s	you I think you ask a question like what
362s	is it like who is the best in BR talk
363s	and why is it me and then I said like ah
366s	we're replacing Ryan with an watermelon
369s	and then everybody was like hyping the
370s	watermelon like yeah watermelon the new
372s	community manager we should have brought
374s	it forgot about the watermelon it's okay
377s	do we haveon in the kitchen
379s	no it's okay the joke is long gone yeah
384s	but uh do you see like uh if the brow
387s	Community is like different from the
388s	other games of course like it's positive
390s	but there is something like specific
391s	that you guys have seen that is very
394s	unique to the BR Community well I think
396s	one of the things and it's also um a
399s	popular topic right now is the whole
401s	thing about the lore and how they care
403s	about the the characters backstory and
406s	like who they are and why they do what
409s	they do I think that's super cool
411s	because from the I I have the feeling
412s	from the from the braw um team and our
416s	work we didn't really we never really
418s	gave them that much but they created so
422s	many things with so little information
424s	so little like stuff that is is very
427s	impressive I've never seen that before
429s	yeah I keep thinking that maybe we
432s	educated them in a wrong way cuz like in
435s	the when we introduced the lore for the
437s	first time everything was like cryptic
439s	and mysterious right it's like now even
442s	if we post like an announce an noran
444s	announcement of whatever they're like
445s	there must be a secret in this image
448s	somehow so yeah maybe maybe we've but I
451s	I think it's good to have like this uh
453s	space that we when we are being cryptic
456s	and mysterious then we have the the room
459s	to to do it and I actually like um cuz
461s	the people who are doing the the law
463s	like our marketing team uh they were
465s	concerned like is this to Hidden or is
468s	this to mysterious and like on day one
470s	they like found everything and like they
473s	they they I think that was um what's
476s	what's the name of the player I think
477s	it's Ido or something he's running I
479s	script to find every single possibility
482s	of like Frosty Force bruting the what
485s	force what is BR brute no Bruce
489s	forting Bruce Bruce force is that a
491s	superhero yes for professionals we know
494s	what we're talking about yeah he's
495s	trying to find like every single
496s	possibility of codes uh out there and
499s	it's uh it's super impressive so
501s	basically like any challenge we can give
503s	to then they will solve I think it's
505s	really amazing too cuz in the beginning
506s	we didn't think too much about you know
509s	the depth of the characters backstories
511s	but then the players started coming up
514s	with backstories and deciding you know
516s	who Piper was in love with and all of
517s	these like intricate details about the
520s	character's motivations and who they
522s	loved and all these kinds of things and
524s	that inspired us to actually double down
526s	on the lore and figure it out so that we
528s	could give back and build on that yeah
530s	so yeah so that's true lot of the lot of
533s	the things you see in the lore is
535s	inspired all actually uh following what
538s	the community has been saying
540s	I don't know if like if we should like
541s	break already the
544s	positiveness cuz like we I ask like what
546s	do you like what what do you dislike
548s	about the Bro Community is there
550s	something that comes to your mind maybe
553s	someone has something to say oh man
555s	that's a
556s	tough I miss them too much come on
561s	come no that's true I really no but it's
565s	true that I really missed because now
566s	I've been like kind of like hidden for
568s	some time because I'm not I'm not out
571s	there because my work happens in the
573s	shadows at the moment and I really miss
575s	that like you know like being more
577s	exposed U but yeah I'm still thinking
579s	about something maybe that I don't like
581s	I yeah you can continue and I'll give do

585s	like oh yeah y'all y'all be I I'll talk
588s	directly at them y'all be too toxic
590s	sometimes seriously like I know that it
593s	comes from a place of you're passionate
594s	for the game and you care but uh
598s	sometimes it comes across a little
601s	bad that's true that's true I guess like
604s	there's a good thing and a bad thing
605s	where the brawl Community isn't patient
608s	right and I so of course that can be
612s	difficult as a community manager but
613s	also that's a huge strength because it
615s	means that when we want things to go
617s	crazy and viral and explode they're
619s	there for it for sure yeah and I think
622s	uh yeah I think like maybe the the
625s	toxicity but like all also like we just
627s	had like the BR pass communication mhm
630s	and like if if they just had
633s	read the thing before commenting because
636s	they saw the headlines and of course
637s	like it's very natural like I think
640s	every uh I don't know piece of paper are
642s	actually going for the clickbaits and
644s	then for the crazy headlines because
646s	they want people to share those things
647s	without reading and I think that's like
649s	a cultural problem anyway but uh yeah
653s	like maybe be more informed because we
656s	are giving information right yeah it's
657s	like we we are open to give all the
660s	information they're asking us and then
661s	maybe before like I want to express my
665s	opinion on social media like before I
667s	maybe get informed AIT a little bit more
670s	CU I think it's actually better for the
671s	the person like uh because most of the
674s	comments I've seen uh of course like
677s	changing the pass from uh gem to IP is a
680s	Nerf for the players who used to buy the
682s	the BR pass but uh they are making these
686s	comments of like ah my progression is
687s	being Nerf or everything and then all
689s	the comments below it is like just read
691s	the things like you are making like a
692s	bit of a fool sometimes right so just be
695s	more informed I think that's a just read
697s	more very deep I I have found something
701s	that I don't like let's go let's go
702s	let's go it took me a while uh no but
705s	it's there is I I I never like this kind
708s	of like uh like almost like Black Market
711s	of accounts and like how like I know
713s	this is a huge topic but like uh the
716s	people like you know trying to sell
718s	accounts like pushing for trophies I
721s	feel like sometimes it seems that the
725s	more trophies you have the more popular
727s	you are in the community or something
729s	and then some people feel so pressured
731s	um on that that they are willing to pay
734s	someone to go into their accounts and
737s	for for them to you know to gain to get
739s	trophies fast and then it's like and and
741s	I never understood that concept is like
744s	if you really want to have more trophies
746s	you should play more the game and like
748s	and don't get in trouble because this
749s	because then you're like then both
751s	people are in trouble like the person
753s	who is pushing trophies and the person
755s	who who is um giving the account so it's
757s	like and then of course they want us to
759s	help them but it's like I really can't
761s	because this is what this this is
764s	something no one should do and it puts
766s	us in a very in a very difficult
768s	situation where like you really want to
770s	help but you you really can't because
772s	they did something that is not allowed
774s	yeah and this actually it's a very good
776s	point cuz sometimes happen that like
778s	because of course like mistakes can
780s	happen and someone can maybe be
781s	unfriendly banned right of course like
784s	it's a very minuscule percent but it can
787s	happen so like if someone tell us like
789s	can you check this account because it
790s	wasn't fair I don't know what happened
792s	then we go there and like we ask support
794s	to check it again and then like we start
796s	seeing like all the information from the
798s	account and then we ask for more
800s	information from the player and then
802s	they say like oh yeah I share my account
804s	with this person like why didn't you
806s	tell me this beforehand like it
810s	it's very it's very tricky it's really
812s	really tricky because we all of course
813s	we want to help but like sometimes we
815s	just can't and so yeah actually one of
819s	the questions like do you miss the
820s	community but you answer right do you
822s	want to explore more yeah yeah I I
824s	really I really miss it and and I'm sure
827s	we'll build something similar uh that is
830s	as good as in Brawl for Squad Busters
833s	but but now in no BR be
837s	better I'm going to say I'm not taking
840s	sides here okay I'm being very neutral
842s	so please respect that no but uh but
846s	yeah I I I really really miss that but I
849s	I'm so excited to like to do stuff for
852s	for the new game but of course never
854s	forgetting braw stars and I keep playing
856s	the game I keep streaming the game and I
858s	keep cosplaying characters braw star
861s	characters so it will always be my
862s	passion so so yeah it's it's always
865s	there some somehow how about for you
867s	Ryan it's like now only paperwork this
870s	boring bureaucracy paperwork meetings
873s	that's it I there I miss everything I
875s	miss so much I love being in Brawl talks
877s	I loved um okay I'm going to tell a
879s	little story here so everybody get oh
881s	nice so like when I like I said I gamed
884s	my whole life and one of my favorite
886s	times of the year was E3 which is if you
889s	don't know is used to be the place where
891s	all of the AAA gaming companies would
893s	announce their new games new updates all
896s	these things and I loved of course to
898s	hear the announcements but I was in a
900s	way very jealous of uh the people on
902s	stage who got to say it so I always
905s	watched this guy named Major Nelson who
907s	did this for Xbox and I looked up to him
909s	a lot because it's such a cool moment to
911s	be on stage in front of thousands of
913s	millions of people and you get to tell
915s	them the thing they all want to hear and
917s	everybody's happy everybody's psyched up
919s	and excited it's like it's the best
921s	feeling in the world or so I imagined at
923s	10 years old 13 years old and then of
925s	course getting to come to supercell and
928s	uh make that my career was incredible
931s	and that's what we got to do for years
933s	and years and there's just nothing
934s	better yeah unless you announce a bad
937s	update just don't do that or they
939s	getting
943s	killed but yeah I guess like you you
946s	were a Royale player before right Lex I
949s	was indeed yeah and then do you miss
952s	something about the were you involved in
953s	the community back then no dude like uh
957s	so I made probably a 100 videos on Clash
959s	Royale and nobody watched my videos back
961s	then because I had just started and
963s	there was a lot bigger creat I was it
964s	was going to take me a long time for me
966s	to get noticed so nobody I think my
969s	biggest video in Clash Royale was
970s	probably like 15,000 views or so which
972s	is still pretty impressive but it's not
974s	you know anything crazy um things didn't
977s	take off until Ryan invited me in to the
980s	Creator program over here with brawl um
982s	and that's what you know set things off
984s	for me so I don't really I don't miss
987s	too much about Clash Royale I actually
989s	still play it daily but uh I don't miss
991s	anything about it Yeahs better well let

1021s	very very little brawl stars on YouTube
1024s	mainly because a I don't want to get
1026s	influenced by anybody else on what kind
1028s	of video ideas that I have and B YouTube
1031s	keeps recommending me woodworking videos
1033s	so I just watch those uh so I actually
1036s	don't watch a bunch but I would say that
1037s	some of some of my favorites or some of
1039s	the tribe guys obviously like Wasim I
1041s	think is extremely creative Kos if I
1043s	want to you know know every statistic
1044s	Under the Sun uh Ray if I want just want
1047s	to chill B Ben if I want to do some
1048s	crazy things are OJ as well uh so
1050s	probably he's one of the tribe guys but
1052s	I don't watch a ton OFW Stars
1054s	YouTube how about you
1057s	Paula for me uh I don't think I could
1060s	name one person at all like because I I
1063s	just think about many sure you could no
1065s	I don't think so I I'm trying I I'm
1068s	trying uh but of course I have I think I
1072s	have a bigger like space in my heart for
1075s	the Spanish and Latin American Community
1078s	because because language does these
1080s	things right so uh we we just understand
1082s	each other better and it's just just
1084s	it's just easier and and yeah and always
1086s	that I go to YouTube or I go to Twitch
1089s	um I usually watch more Spanish speaking
1092s	uh content than than English so I feel
1096s	more like connected to to them uh but
1099s	but yeah I don't know I I don't have any
1102s	any any concrete names okay okay yeah I
1105s	would say the same like uh I'm trying to
1108s	to come up with a definite answer but I
1110s	don't know there's things that I like
1112s	about different creators like I like
1114s	Lex's humor a lot and uh I don't know I
1117s	like how Caris goes into details about
1119s	everything like it feels like a really
1122s	you know like almost seeing a review of
1123s	a game is like is videos for me are that
1125s	kind of thing and yeah I watch a lot of
1128s	Spanish ones as well because I used to
1130s	Spanish to to Spanish I used to work a
1133s	lot with the Spanish community and uh
1136s	yeah I got to know a lot of them as well
1138s	so lots of times it's my go-to as well
1140s	that is not English is the Spanish ones
1143s	sometimes to go a little bit crazy the
1144s	Brazilian ones as well but yeah yeah I
1147s	would say that uh it's really hard for
1149s	me to choose one do you still watch
1151s	brawl content yeah I mean so I I can't
1155s	pick one and that's too hard but like
1157s	the the YouTubers that hold a special
1159s	place in my heart are of course the ones
1160s	that were there in the early days in
1162s	beta you know Lex and cyos Corey Arc Ray
1165s	I think was there back in the day uh it
1168s	was such a special moment when the game
1170s	was in beta and I I know you guys were
1172s	struggling cuz it's very hard to get
1173s	views when a game is in beta so we were
1176s	all in the same boat where we were
1178s	betting everything that this game would
1179s	go Global these guys betting careers on
1182s	it and of course us on the team really
1184s	wanting with all of our hearts to make
1185s	it go so it was such a journey and and
1188s	uh yeah really good connections with all
1190s	those guys yeah and I like the the fact
1193s	like all your answers is like depends on
1195s	the topic or what you want to watch cuz
1197s	like yeah that there is like um this guy
1200s	from Brazil Lucas Clash on he like makes
1202s	those stories based on gameplay and like
1204s	he's super creative and like um when he
1208s	he was in the World Finals uh in Paris
1210s	last year and ah actually what a
1213s	coincidence I have here like some swag

1261s	game development it's like um it's it's

1267s	always take both sides but uh the
1270s	general content creator like the player
1272s	they only see the player side right so I
1274s	think U kyos gets a lot of heat because
1276s	he see the both sides of the the things
1279s	but a lot of respect as well I think
1281s	yeah yeah for sure and of course like
1283s	Lex for the creativity I think he he's
1286s	like two time Broly winner he yeah I
1289s	have one twice now are you guys going to
1291s	be doing a third one this year no that's
1293s	a a question for that and I think uh
1295s	okay we'll get to that we'll get to that
1297s	and but yeah like Crimean he's like a
1299s	pro that's making like more educational
1302s	content so there's a lot of like uh
1305s	really good content for and I I really
1307s	like how they they kind of like I don't
1309s	know if like they are doing in um uh how
1312s	to say like organized way but they
1314s	structure themselves in nich right so
1317s	like you you go for like for like crazy
1319s	stuff for like more funny humor and then
1322s	uh you go to Wasing for like extremely
1324s	crazy videos or things like that so it's
1327s	really cool how they structure theel and
1329s	they find like how can I be different
1331s	from another person now you have like
1334s	the Michael who is going full in lore
1338s	and like uh his videos that he talks
1340s	about lore performs a lot better than
1342s	the his other videos like it's nice that
1344s	he found like a niche yeah so yeah
1347s	really cool really happy with the
1349s	community and your
1350s	work there was a question here
1354s	um like how how do you feel is working
1358s	in Brawl because like maybe like you you
1361s	you told your story like you saw like
1363s	the Xbox announcement everything and
1366s	then when you came to the came to
1369s	supercell how did it feel like did you
1371s	realize or did
1373s	you was your a dream come true moment or
1378s	did you see like oh maybe that's not was
1379s	was expecting or no yeah I mean it was
1382s	it was an interesting so I started on
1384s	Boom Beach actually way back in the day
1386s	um and that was of course my eyes are
1388s	full of stars being on a game that big
1390s	and I I really loved it and loved the
1391s	community there too and the lore of that
1394s	game was also really fun and fun to play
1396s	with as a community manager coming to
1398s	brawl was a really interesting road
1399s	because of course as I said went through
1401s	the beta and that was a the whole time
1404s	so we of course test our games
1406s	internally before we release them to the
1407s	public so we tested brawl at uh uh with
1411s	the company um maybe even a year before
1414s	it went to Beta And we did a little
1417s	tournament with inside the company to
1419s	you know just to try it out and see if
1421s	it was fun all that kind of stuff and
1422s	that was when I knew this game's got it
1425s	I could tell even then it was
1427s	rudimentary with broken characters and
1430s	no visuals and and just some mechanics
1432s	in it um Brock was a robot at that time
1435s	and uh but even then I knew the game had
1438s	it and so although there were lots of
1441s	ups and downs and worrying about would
1442s	this game Go Global would it get killed
1443s	what were we going to do I was still
1445s	confident the whole way through cuz at
1447s	the core of it and you know Lex you'll
1449s	remember we changed the meta how many
1451s	times like I don't know three four times
1454s	we went from vertical to land we did all
1456s	these things but still the core gameplay
1459s	remained pretty close throughout because
1462s	I think we knew that that had it in it
1465s	the whole way so we I had the confidence
1467s	in the game the whole time and it was
1469s	definitely a dream come true even from
1471s	the beginning when I joined when it was
1472s	a very early how is it for you Marcio
1475s	that you just join it w it was a dream
1479s	come true yeah like um it's an a very
1483s	emotional path because I've been playing
1484s	the game ever since it came out on beta
1487s	and uh like I was there when the there I
1490s	was seeing the announcement and I was
1491s	working for player support at the time
1493s	for clash Royale and Clash of Clans and
1495s	we kind of knew that there was something
1497s	happening that day so as soon as it got
1499s	announced and it went into the shops
1501s	like I was like part of that group of
1502s	going with the VPN like trying to find a
1504s	a dirty way to download the game and I
1507s	managed and uh do days at
1511s	home we're gonna have to ban you now
1514s	I'll cut this in uh in post
1516s	edit but uh but yeah like I fell in love
1519s	with the game like I was like playing
1521s	every day like to the point where I
1523s	actually hurt my finger from like doing
1526s	like this movement when it was like the
1527s	drag
1528s	the direct thing um and uh yeah I love
1532s	the game and after a bit I started
1534s	working in as a community manager for
1536s	clash Royale in a local uh like in a
1538s	local language for for Spanish and then
1541s	the the game got announced that it was
1543s	going to go live and I was like asking
1545s	my superiors can I please go to this
1547s	game this is like my favorite game and
1551s	at the time like the need was for clash
1552s	Royale so I had to stay but I still
1553s	managed to go to actually the release of
1555s	the game I was there like supporting
1557s	like the local language as well it's
1559s	like one of the moments that I'll
1560s	remember
1562s	forever and uh yeah at that time I would
1565s	never imagine that I would make it here
1568s	so it feels like you know like the movie
1569s	Creed or rocky or something like that
1571s	that I spent all these years preparing
1573s	myself for this moment yeah and uh when
1575s	earlier this year like I went through
1577s	the process and like there was the
1579s	option of like going to uh several games
1581s	I was like no what brawl braw is number
1585s	one or nothing okay get out

1628s	I really like Clash Royale and and brawl
1630s	star but brawl star was like I was also
1633s	there from from the beginning and and it
1635s	was it was really cool and then when I H
1638s	initially I this is a long story but I
1639s	applied for clash Royale for a role for
1642s	for Community manager and then through
1644s	the process uh at some point they asked
1646s	me if I if if I if if I would mind if
1650s	from here I applied to braw Star instead
1653s	of clash Royale because well there was
1655s	another person Max actually who's who's
1657s	been there in Clash Royale and then they
1660s	yeah they they hired him for clash
1662s	Royale and then they suddenly I was
1664s	interviewing with Ryan and with Frank
1666s	and I was like God this is so cool like
1670s	hi so so yeah like that moment and and
1673s	when they told me that I got the job and
1676s	I was like this is crazy this is it's
1678s	really crazy because I I I felt so lucky
1680s	that that that well that you guys gave
1682s	me the opportunity because I I didn't
1684s	have experience as a community manager I
1686s	did similar things and and and you know
1688s	I was in the community in different ways
1690s	but like come on this is super sell this
1692s	is a big company it is my favorite game
1695s	so it was it was a lot it was it was
1697s	just a lot so I will never forget that
1699s	that feeling yeah and actually because
1701s	you were moving to a lead position then
1702s	I was being alone in Brawl and then like
1705s	oh we have like those two candidates

1718s	a crazy Journey like for us from like me

1726s	middle of the night like you remember
1727s	like the content creators sitting there
1729s	waiting for like an update to launch and
1731s	we would it' be like 3 4:00 in the
1733s	morning from me I'm like no I cannot go
1735s	to bed until this update launches and
1738s	now it's just like yeah I'll schedule
1739s	the video it's it's fine whatever
1742s	but uh no it's it was wild and
1746s	like I remember okay so I remember when
1749s	I was started covering brawl and I may
1754s	been planning it for a while and making
1756s	videos on it for a while and I remember
1758s	Ryan or I didn't know was Ryan well I
1760s	kind of knew it Ryan but brawl stars on
1763s	Twitter sent me a or they followed me
1766s	and I remember thinking okay this was
1768s	like going to be the thing that you know
1770s	was going to be they were going to
1771s	message me and I was going to be able to
1773s	become one of you know the official you
1774s	know supercell creators and I remember I
1776s	got that notification at like 2:30 in
1779s	the morning which is the start of you
1780s	guys's workday and I was so excited I
1783s	didn't even sleep that entire night dude
1785s	I was just like I was like okay you
1787s	followed me send me a message now I was
1789s	so excited but Ryan didn't do anything
1791s	for like a day or so he followed me just
1794s	and I was waiting and waiting but no it
1796s	it was it was good because um like that
1799s	moment and it it literally changed the
1802s	entire course of not only me but my
1804s	entire family's life uh and it Chang it
1806s	for the better indelibly and it's it was
1808s	it's pretty amazing that's really cool
1810s	to hear yeah actually I do that a lot of
1812s	like messaging someone and then I forget
1816s	and then like the person waits for a day
1819s	I think maybe I have done that with Lex
1820s	as well sorry it's not it's not it's
1823s	just why they have so much on our table
1825s	and then maybe have it's just you know
1827s	it's a power play had to leave Lex on
1828s	red yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah just left
1831s	me hanging yeah
1833s	yeah um have you have you ever been
1837s	recognized on the
1839s	streets I have you have some funny
1843s	stories have have you already Mario no
1846s	not I don't think so these things don't

1858s	in my building they they they recognize
1860s	me and I think through Tik Tok because

1873s	so they are shy and then every time like
1875s	I know I'll go out to get a pizza from

1880s	the hall and then they have like this
1882s	awkward moment they're like oh I'm like
1884s	on my pj so like dress like really
1886s	poorly and then they don't say anything
1888s	and then there's just this silence that
1890s	oh they know me and I know them and and
1893s	I say like hi and they don't respond
1894s	back and oh God and because of that you
1897s	moved yeah now I moved they don't know
1899s	where I leave but um but then uh there
1902s	are other cases that like friends of
1904s	those kids they starting start putting
1907s	like um notes on my door asking for gems
1910s	oh my God because the first one I
1912s	actually gave like ah it's a cute thing
1914s	that let's just give something but then
1916s	it ke keep happening like you're like
1918s	Santa Claus yeah not anymore because I
1920s	don't leave there but um but yeah
1923s	there's plenty of funny cases like do
1926s	you have any I I have two stories so the
1929s	the first time I got recognized was a
1931s	few years ago I was uh in London for
1934s	some kind of trip just in the back of a
1936s	cab with my partner and uh we were just
1939s	chatting in the back and the taxi driver
1941s	in the middle of the he was quiet the
1943s	whole ride but then in the middle of our
1944s	ride something like hey do I know you
1946s	from somewhere and I was like no doubt
1948s	it I don't live here I'm not from here
1950s	and he's like no I definitely know you
1952s	and then we just kept talking for a
1953s	while and he was like you were the
1955s	community manager for Boom Beach and I
1957s	was like yeah yes yeah that's correct uh
1962s	and then the second time uh which is
1964s	probably my favorite is actually when we
1966s	went to Gar in
1969s	2019 or so and uh we had a big brawl
1972s	Stars booth there it was really cool
1974s	tons of fans playing the game running
1976s	around taking pictures all these things
1978s	and I was standing next to Danny just
1979s	chatting about whatever we were chatting
1981s	about and a fan came up and was like
1984s	really shy and I think the culture there
1985s	is not to go up and ask people for
1987s	pictures and things but very nervous and
1989s	shy I was like can I can I take a
1991s	picture with you and I was like oh of
1994s	course and then uh he hands me the phone
1997s	to take a picture of him and
1999s	Danny he had no idea who I
2003s	was yeah like from Korea I also have
2006s	like something really embarrassing cuz
2009s	like uh because like I think the thing
2011s	is that I I I created like this Persona
2014s	intentionally in brw stars because like
2016s	I don't use a cap naturally like that's
2019s	the only difference oh my God this is
2021s	the Persona is it this but like the
2022s	character like he weird like the hair
2024s	and thing like something that CAU your
2026s	attention right so then like in Korea
2028s	where everybody's like different like we
2029s	are very different from then and then we
2032s	have like this weird guy walking around
2034s	so like it's very notable so I think
2036s	that was the thing that maybe like if if
2039s	they look at you for like one extra
2041s	second oh that's Ryan I appreciate you
2043s	trying to make me feel better but no I
2044s	don't think that's what happen but then
2046s	but then like so because I was like a
2048s	weird person in that event like a lot of
2051s	people are like uh asking for pictures
2053s	and autographs and everything and like
2055s	going like I I couldn't do any route
2058s	without like bumping someone to for that
2062s	and then I was like getting used to that
2063s	like so whatever they hand me I was like
2065s	writing and blah blah until one person
2068s	asks just for one
2069s	information so she was like where is
2072s	this in the map and then I just signed

2079s	to your head now like oh my God I just

2083s	here my favorite story you told me this
2086s	before and I I never
2088s	forgot how about you like how is it Fame
2091s	for you uh I mean hey I hardly never
2095s	leave this studio I go from home to
2097s	Studio but I have been recognized
2099s	obviously quite a few times some some
2101s	some of them are rather awkward like
2103s	standing at the urinal in the bathroom
2105s	and somebody's looking over at you they
2107s	like are you Lex I'm like bro can we can
2109s	we just wait till this is done and we
2111s	can have this conversation but the I
2114s	always remember the first time that I
2115s	got recognized because I went into a
2117s	coffee shop just to get some coffee and
2119s	there was a lady and she had her and her
2121s	kid with her the kid was probably 10 or
2123s	so it look like and he just kept you
2125s	know looking at me and like a ly staring
2128s	at me and and I I felt very awkward and
2131s	this is back when I had probably only
2133s	like 100,000 subscribers or so and
2136s	anyways and finally I was just like I
2137s	was like hey man how's it going he's
2139s	like are you Lex and and for like for a
2141s	moment there I was like oh oh it's
2144s	happening the dream's coming true and
2146s	I'm like yeah and he looks at me he said
2149s	you look older in person oh my
2153s	God and I'm like oh okay and then he's
2155s	like do you know chief
2157s	Pat like and I didn't at the time I
2160s	wasn't even try I'm like no man I don't
2162s	he's like okay oh no it's like so I was
2166s	very uninterested to him because I
2168s	Didn't Know Chief Pat and I looked older
2169s	in person turbo boosted your ego to the
2172s	Bottom of the Sea dude I I felt so good
2174s	for a moment it didn't last very long

2181s	first time it was in Barcelona I was at
2185s	a bar bar waiting for my dad I was just
2187s	having breakfast there and suddenly so
2190s	there was another table like yeah pretty
2192s	close to to mine and and then I I see on
2196s	the you know the side of my my eyes I
2199s	see uh a kid uh with a phone like this
2204s	and showing to his dad something and
2207s	then looking at me like trying to be you
2209s	know the subtle but they they were not
2211s	SLE I could see I was like what's going
2214s	on there and so at some point they the
2217s	dad comes to my table with the phone in
2221s	his hands and he's like excuse me is
2224s	this you it was a picture of me it was a
2227s	terrible picture as well it was from it
2229s	was a screenshot from a video so my my
2231s	face was not great I was like yeah that
2233s	that's meet and then the kid came and
2235s	then they asked for a picture but it was
2237s	it was very very sweet and then I had
2240s	the same kind of same set up like
2242s	situation where someone coming with a
2244s	phone as well it was a parent with a kid
2247s	and this was in a communion so I was in
2249s	the communion with my with with my niece
2252s	and and yeah everyone was you know
2254s	looking at the other the thing happening
2256s	there and I was there at the back and
2257s	suddenly like I get like tapped on my
2259s	shoulder and the and then I see my face
2262s	you know is it you like yeah that's
2266s	that's been a picture so that's they
2268s	always I think they always try to verify
2271s	if if it's actually like me first like
2274s	let me see and then in another case they
2276s	were looking at my piercing like oh and
2278s	the mom came to me I was eating a burger
2281s	and they and she came she was like ah
2283s	because I couldn't see the piercing the
2285s	the picture so I wasn't sure if it was
2287s	you so so yeah and then other cases
2290s	where like the kids don't really don't
2292s	really want to bother you and then I get
2295s	messages on Instagram um that I randomly
2298s	see maybe that that day after and they
2301s	they they were like uh I think I saw you
2304s	on this place but I didn't want to you
2306s	know bother you and your family at that
2308s	at that moment so I didn't say anything
2310s	and this happened in a I was I was in
2313s	the middle of the mountains in in Spain
2316s	it was like a Yama Llama trip so I was I
2320s	was with some llamas you know in a farm
2322s	so it was a very like I don't know
2324s	specific yeah I but wouldn't expect to
2326s	find anyone there let me just get this
2328s	story straight you were in the mountains
2330s	with llamas yeah alone and someone and
2333s	then Al L recognized you right and
2335s	someone messaged you on Instagram like
2337s	like I see you yeah kind of okay that's
2340s	strange but they didn't say anything no
2342s	but I was with my family there and then
2344s	I got the message and and I remember
2346s	seeing the kid but like I I wouldn't
2348s	know they would recognize me so but how
2350s	often do you go hang out with llamas uh
2353s	you prefer not to answer okay cool co co
2355s	cool yeah but next I I I think like the
2358s	the the issue to me is that like we I
2360s	guess like we we are not used to fame
2363s	right because it's a new thing and is
2365s	something that we even didn't even ask

2374s	beginning he a contract yeah but then

2399s	saw me walking on the street and then we
2403s	talked um and then he he went away like

2413s	I am and then he say hi take took a
2414s	picture then he left and then like five
2416s	minutes after he came back with his
2419s	brother and a bike and then he asked Can
2422s	I visit the office it was here in
2424s	Finland and then instead of like saying
2427s	no like a normal human being because
2429s	like no it's like an office like it's
2431s	it's not like for visit or like like not
2433s	a uh it's not open for for visitors

2438s	yes and then like then we made an
2441s	appointment like uh I got his emailed
2444s	and then we um he came to the office
2447s	like I uh I was like a bit busy on that
2449s	day so like I did a speedrun with him
2452s	and I felt like oh I didn't even like

2456s	like this is blah blah blah this is blah
2457s	and then just running rushing to the
2459s	office and then then after like 30

3267s	who don't like the ever increasing power
3269s	disparity between pay to win and free to
3272s	or free to play and pay players is there
3276s	you know what are your thoughts on this
3277s	topic and you know moving forward how
3279s	far down to this rabbit hole do we go
3280s	yeah yeah I think it's a good topic to
3282s	talk about I think the thing we can't
3285s	like be tied to or like we shouldn't
3287s	prevent ourselves to do is to give more
3289s	to people who are actually willing to
3291s	support the game right like why is it
3294s	bad that like if if you are like willing
3296s	to spend your money on a game to support
3298s	it why shouldn't we give you more like
3301s	uh it's something that so that means
3304s	that the only way for a player to
3306s	actually have like this difference
3308s	between like a free-to-play account and
3309s	a uh to get more power it's like to
3312s	spend a lot like that that is even more
3315s	predatory right it's like if we because
3318s	like it's already a reality like if you
3320s	want to max out your account on day one
3322s	you can spend a lot of I don't recommend
3324s	that to anyone by the way
3326s	uh buy the PES is the best offer we have
3328s	um but yeah I think it is like um I
3332s	don't know what is that Meme like it's a
3334s	honest work right we are giving more if
3337s	you are willing to to support the game
3339s	and if we don't have people support in
3341s	the game then it's bad for everyone so I

3348s	about that because it's already a
3349s	reality that like but we're giving more
3352s	to people who willing to uh to like go a
3356s	bit beyond than just playing the game so
3358s	I think uh we we see like of course like
3361s	we don't want to have like more players
3364s	being stronger than the the freeto play
3366s	players but also like with the new uh P
3370s	this is also not a reality because you
3372s	only use certain number of Bowlers to
3374s	play right like it's not like if you are
3376s	compare maxed accounts then yes then
3378s	like people Max the account faster but
3382s	like who who does that yeah the average
3385s	player when we are when you are playing
3387s	a game you play like your 15 Brawlers
3389s	and we are already giving more resources
3390s	to the free to play players so like
3393s	competitive uh we are going to be
3395s	actually in a better scenario than we
3397s	were before so yeah I wouldn't be too
3400s	worried about I told I totally get it
3402s	from that perspective that obviously
3404s	people who who are you know shelling out
3406s	their money to help support the game
3408s	obviously they should be rewarded for
3409s	doing so no no objection there um I do
3413s	and I think that for most people people
3415s	that they didn't you know they missed
3417s	that they they just read the headlines
3418s	they missed out on the details of the
3420s	past that it is actually better for the
3423s	vast majority of people the changes that
3424s	the brawl pass is going to be bringing
3427s	um now like and I I do have a very
3429s	Fringe case of course when on my freetop
3431s	playay account where I'm pushing all of
3433s	my Brawlers up high I see I see it's
3435s	definitely not as good for me there
3437s	because the you know the disparity
3439s	between my account and a maxed out
3441s	account is going to continue to grow
3442s	which I find a little bit frustrating
3445s	although will say you guys uh your your
3447s	power level scaling on each level you
3449s	made me upgrade some Brawlers grudging
3452s	me
3453s	so like playing level nine Brawlers up
3456s	around 700 trophies is is it gets pretty
3458s	rough so I I did have to upgrade some
3460s	Brawlers which I'm not happy about but
3462s	yeah uh I I don't know I just think that
3464s	this topic is it's always a little bit
3465s	touchy I guess when you bring in uh
3467s	money and uh and I think that we also
3473s	might have been spoiled a bit maybe you
3475s	can confirm this that like for the past
3478s	many years braw has been an extremely
3481s	free-to-play friendly game and maybe too
3486s	much so or it so that it now it seems
3489s	like any changes seems so drastic to the
3492s	free-to-play player base I don't know
3495s	yeah I just don't want to see you know
3497s	too much
3500s	monetization yeah at the end of the I'm
3502s	I'm all for monetization yeah well now
3506s	people can use code Lex in the pass
3508s	because it's IP right but of course like
3511s	absolutely yeah I think uh it is a a
3514s	thing that uh like it's a kind of a
3517s	taboo that like people are not very open
3519s	about it but like if we monetize the
3521s	game well we can actually grow the game
3524s	in our source like we can increase the
3526s	size of our team like we can uh show the
3529s	company that the game is worth in
3531s	investing on or in uh or we we can like
3535s	make uh make more ads yeah more lore
3539s	like people of the law right we can
3541s	create like lots of those animations
3542s	that people like to see it's like um if
3546s	we monetize well and it's not a in a
3548s	predatory way we are like asking too
3550s	much for a very few people like we are
3552s	asking little a bit of money for a lot
3555s	of people and and then uh if we monetize
3559s	well it it is better for everyone
3561s	because the P gives you more value so it
3564s	means like in the
3566s	and in the long run you are spending
3569s	less because you're getting more for
3570s	your
3571s	investment uh which makes the game uh
3576s	which makes the game continue to exist
3579s	for the freet to- playay players so I
3581s	think it is a bit uh we uh tricky to
3585s	talk about those things because I see
3587s	like yeah if you talk about money then
3589s	like it becomes like the top headline
3591s	like you are a greedy uh person and
3594s	everything but I don't know like it it's
3596s	a business right and you need we need to
3598s	exist like if you like the game yeah you
3600s	should be happy that someone else is
3602s	actually supporting it sure and I and I
3606s	said that in in my videos that you know
3607s	if every single player who played brawl
3609s	Stars never spent any money there would
3611s	be no brawl Stars it would cease to
3612s	exist yeah so I mean somebody's got to
3614s	be paying for all the development and
3617s	you know luckily there's a lot of
3618s	players out who love the game and are
3620s	willing to spend some money on the game
3621s	and that's not a bad thing that's a good
3623s	thing it not only makes the game exists
3625s	but it also provides jobs for everybody
3627s	that are working on the team and it's
3628s	it's a good thing um and I think that
3631s	overall that braw stars has been
3633s	extremely generous uh in most things in
3637s	come when it comes to monetization uh I
3640s	will say that on the free pass and we'll
3642s	see more uh when it actually comes out
3644s	the only thing I one of the thing one of
3646s	the two things that I didn't like about
3647s	it from what I read willing to wait and
3649s	see but the feeling that it gives
3651s	somebody when they buy the past it's
3652s	like it's a special moment like oh this
3654s	time I get a by the pass even so now
3656s	even if a free to-play player isn't
3658s	getting it and they're still getting
3659s	more rewards which they will be that
3661s	that feeling's kind of gone a little bit
3663s	but still in the end it's going to be
3665s	better for the vast majority of people
3667s	which is a great thing yeah but that
3669s	that's that I guess there's no other way
3671s	around it we just think it when we we
3673s	are very uh honest about it like that's
3675s	that's the nerve right sure yeah yeah so

3679s	actually uh if you monetize well it
3681s	allow things like Squad Busters
3685s	to actually be made so like it's not
3687s	only but it's the company and allow like
3689s	more uh new games to be
3692s	released you guys have been pumping out
3694s	a lot of games in the beta here lately
3696s	yeah yeah and and actually it gives the
3699s	freedom for like if uh I don't want to
3703s	that this scenario happens but if Squad
3705s	Buster doesn't uh work out we have the
3708s	freedom to say like let's not release
3710s	this game because it's not worth it like
3711s	we don't we don't have the pressure to
3713s	release a game because like we can still
3715s	support ourselves with the live games we
3717s	have right so we hope it doesn't happen
3720s	but um it's it's good to be in the
3722s	situation which like most of the
3723s	companies are not most of the companies
3725s	are like there's a publish behind it and
3727s	like ship this game on that date and
3729s	then they have to ship something that
3730s	they don't

3736s	feel like is the biggest mistake that
3739s	brawl star has ever made whoa going to

3757s	it ended up being the right thing
3758s	obviously but uh like it was very hated

3766s	because I love the game as it is right
3768s	now so I just got used to it but like I
3771s	I just miss portray games like I I like
3774s	play one hand while I'm doing something
3777s	else and all the games that I I love the
3780s	most are all all of on mobile they are
3783s	Port H landscape so I'm always like
3785s	forced to stop doing whatever I'm doing
3788s	to play a match and I I I would just
3791s	love to have this kind of game where I
3793s	can just you know like do like this you

3799s	I would have loved to see the game um so

3806s	case where like brawl stars um survived
3810s	as a port trade game like how how would
3813s	it be like I would I would love to know

3818s	the exact original theory was that it's
3820s	easier to play with one hand that's why
3823s	it was developed initially that way that
3824s	was the whole premise but yeah then of
3827s	course many of the things that we see
3829s	today in BR wouldn't make sense on a
3833s	portrait and I think for the game and
3836s	and also it we would be much more
3838s	limited on the things we can do so of
3841s	course it was the right decision but
3842s	like still like damn it only because we
3845s	saw it once like this thought will never
3847s	like go completely away people always
3850s	want what they can't
3852s	have how about for you
3856s	Ryan worst mistake ever man that's a
3859s	really hard one I mean I it's hard
3862s	because um when I'm thinking about all
3865s	the things not all the things some of
3867s	the things that we did that I maybe
3868s	disagreed with the reasoning was there
3871s	yeah as to why we did it wrong so I it's
3873s	hard for me to to think about the result
3876s	without the path there um I'd say
3879s	probably uh the worst mistakes were
3882s	during beta when we remade the meta so
3885s	many times we made metas that just did
3889s	not work that were way off and then we
3891s	scrapped the whole thing and made a left
3892s	turn and we we reinvented the game many
3895s	many many times in a row but again it
3898s	was part of the path to get to the thing
3900s	that worked but yeah we it took us a
3902s	long time to get
3904s	right do you have something in this
3906s	month or maybe it could be some from
3908s	where yeah something uh I guess more um
3910s	related to the work that we do that is
3913s	uh actually related to the Skins
3915s	whenever when we made the question to
3917s	the community about the Skins we about
3921s	bringing back exclusive skins or with
3923s	some color change ches or some kind of
3925s	detail changes or something I feel that
3928s	it was such an important thing and we
3931s	wanted to to really get the the
3933s	community viewpoint but we could have
3935s	waited maybe a little bit more and get
3938s	like the message a bit refined or
3939s	something and we ended up doing like
3942s	this whole text that was like really
3944s	nice structured like we gave like a lot
3946s	of cool details like we said like what
3949s	we would like to do what would be some
3951s	of the things and we even like told so
3954s	many times that we were taking into
3956s	account people's feedback but then for
3958s	some reason we put this poll yeah in the
3961s	game and like people kind of freaked out
3963s	a little bit especially when they
3964s	started seeing that uh bringing back
3967s	option was uh was winning by far yeah
3970s	and even though we were like just
3973s	keeping on saying that uh like we we are
3975s	not only taking this into account we're
3977s	also taking into account the comments
3978s	like it felt like a a mistake from from
3982s	our side of of things let's say
3985s	yeah yeah because like from from my side
3987s	I think many times I've uh reacted too
3991s	fast on community uh questions or
3995s	something like if someone because like
3997s	of course the community is very uh
3999s	emotional as well but we shouldn't react
4001s	on the same uh uh emotion like we should
4003s	be the ones that tone it down and then
4005s	answer in a normal way but sometimes it
4007s	happens that someone is ACC accusing you
4011s	of something then you get like triggered
4012s	and then you answer immediately like ah
4014s	man I shouldn't have done that and now
4017s	like I'm I'm more control like you can
4018s	see that I'm not Super Active on Twitter
4020s	for example it's just because like yeah
4022s	if there's a question that's really
4024s	relevant then I answer in the next day
4027s	or if this question will be answered by
4029s	like a game update or whatever then I I
4031s	don't answer because like what is the
4032s	point right I can give you like one day
4034s	before like knowledge but then the game
4037s	will answer so like I feel like the more
4041s	I'm in this role the less I feel like
4043s	the individual ual Danny matters is more
4046s	like the the broadcasting this
4048s	information right so like how can I
4050s	inform more people about this specific
4052s	thing rather than answering this one
4053s	player so like it kind of sacrifices the
4056s	um proximity or like the closeness that
4059s	we have we have to the players but at
4061s	the end of the day I believe that at
4062s	least more people are being formed but
4065s	uh yeah that was like my mistakes but I
4067s	guess like if you looking for the broing
4070s	then I think undoubtedly for me in my
4072s	period was the gears I think
4076s	and then actually uh cuz like Ryan was
4079s	still in the team and I remember I was
4081s	talking to Ryan and I feel like Ryan I
4083s	don't think this is going to go well and
4085s	then I was like uh should I tell the
4086s	team and anything and then Ryan said
4089s	like yeah please um it's better like if
4090s	you speak out rather than you keep to
4092s	yourself and then I made like a long
4094s	text of like why I don't think this is
4096s	good um like why we are not reaching our
4099s	goals and of course like we discussed
4100s	with the team and then we ended up um
4103s	going with it because at the end of the
4105s	day we also like uh we have to be humble
4107s	to like that we don't know what will be
4109s	the outcome of the things right we have
4111s	to put it out there to see how it goes
4113s	but well like a self tap on my shoulder
4118s	everything that I point out started
4120s	happening as like almost like a prophecy
4122s	and then I felt I actually I know what
4123s	I'm talking about so like I felt like
4125s	proud of myself but um and then H
4129s	another thing is that when we had this
4131s	update we were filming the brow
4135s	and then I was filming a message to the
4136s	community on the same day they were
4138s	hating me so much and then it's like
4142s	yeah but then like you guys are great
4145s	but not those 10,000 messages I just got
4148s	but I think it's nice that you you have
4150s	to think of like okay it's on long term
4152s	this will like be a problem that you go
4154s	away or like we will solve somehow and
4156s	then let's do the next thing right

4160s	like I don't know uh three weeks later

4166s	Think It's Tricky with stuff like gears
4168s	for example because um sometimes you
4171s	think about the features from your well

4182s	Community managers so we we kind of know
4184s	the know the players we we know the
4186s	games we like how we like things and for
4189s	me gears it was something that I I
4191s	wasn't interested in because because I I
4194s	play bro in a very casual way and I I am
4196s	more into cosmetics and stuff than
4198s	progression itself so for me it was like
4201s	yeah sure I will buy some I would just
4203s	watch K kao's videos about like which
4207s	one is better for each character and
4209s	that's it but I wasn't excited about it
4210s	but then uh some of the people who are
4212s	more on the like competitive um side or
4216s	like they they are more like more
4218s	hardcore players they were like really
4220s	into this concept and I was like oh okay
4222s	so if we if we manage to have people as
4225s	like these people are right now then
4227s	this is a great feature and I won't care
4229s	about it but like apparent I Pro maybe
4232s	many people will care about it so so
4234s	it's like super tricky to flag these
4236s	things because you never know if it's
4238s	just based on your experience if this
4240s	applies also to other people or like
4243s	yeah so it gets really really
4245s	complicated I think that's so important
4246s	to point out that we try our best to
4248s	have a six sense to know how the
4251s	community will react if they'll love a
4252s	feature or hate a feature but still
4254s	we're doing our best guess and we don't
4256s	know until it's in the players hands and
4258s	I think you guys Lex when you get the
4260s	Early Access you've loved some things
4262s	that we've put out and then we've all
4263s	been stunned if the community didn't
4265s	like
4266s	it right no I think that it's one of
4269s	those things where even even if you
4271s	think that the community is going to not
4274s	initially take well to it if you still
4276s	think that it's in the best interest for
4277s	the game long term you're still going to
4279s	ship it because you think that they're
4281s	not going to like it they're going to
4282s	get used to it and in the end it'll be
4284s	better thing for the the game right yeah
4287s	the thing that the gears weren't so
4289s	that's why we reworked eventually yeah I
4292s	think that on the gears update it wasn't
4293s	so the gears were definitely boring to
4295s	me they still are a little bit but uh it
4298s	was more like adding two levels at the
4300s	same time it just felt like such an
4302s	insurmountable thing like I spent $5,000
4305s	in one video and I still didn't even
4308s	fully max out I really regret that video
4310s	by the
4311s	way yeah um yeah yeah but yeah but we
4316s	learn go ahead what we learned from that
4319s	and then if we could go back we would
4321s	probably of course like have the gears
4323s	in a reor design but I was like
4325s	releasing only one power level instead
4327s	of two uh yeah
4329s	yeah well speaking of gears and the
4332s	boing so it's kind of centered around
4334s	that uh because I was actually talking
4336s	to Kyros yesterday and we were both
4339s	talking about how a we still feel like
4342s	hypercharge is too expensive but because
4346s	like whenever you're leveling up like
4348s	when you get your Gadget at level seven
4350s	it feels so worth that extra thousand
4352s	coins it's like oh this is a really
4353s	impactful thing and then the gears are
4356s	just like H it's whatever star Powers
4359s	which cost twice as much of a gear don't
4361s	usually feel as impactful as a gadget
4364s	sorry misspoke so star Powers feel less
4367s	impactful than a gadget do depends on
4369s	the star power but for the most part and
4370s	then hyperchargers while are very cool
4373s	for five times the cost they don't feel
4375s	like they give you five times the fun
4377s	it's almost like the awesome factor is
4380s	almost inverted a little bit yeah
4382s	between gadgets and
4383s	hyperchargers do you still feel that
4385s	hyperchargers are Priced Right could we
4387s	possibly see a reduction in cost or I
4391s	think is that just it I would say like
4392s	uh like I don't know what the team feels
4394s	about it so like I speaking for myself
4396s	but I think the the thing approach would
4398s	be to actually make the hypercharge to F
4401s	the thing that you were missing instead
4403s	of like decreasing price because I think
4404s	like economy-wise I think we are in a
4406s	good place right now and it allows us to
4408s	buff uh progression which means that
4411s	most of the play the player base will
4413s	benefit from that because most of the
4415s	players don't even reach power 11 anyway
4417s	right so like uh like they reach with
4419s	some Brawlers like if we give room to
4422s	ourselves to buff progression in a
4424s	general way because hyperchargers cost
4426s	this price it's actually beneficial for
4428s	the whole Community actually even if
4430s	some has to pay the price of the Char
4433s	but yeah I think it's it's better like
4434s	if you fix the design rather than the
4436s	price cuz at least we are in a good
4437s	place economically okay yeah that's
4441s	that's fair enough yeah why you talking
4443s	about Buffs when are we going to get a
4444s	buff to coins Danny like every time I go
4447s	to upgrade a brawler no I want more we
4450s	want more because we always want more
4453s	Danny like whenever I go go to upgrade a
4456s	brawler I don't even look at my power
4457s	points like I know I have enough of
4458s	those it's it's pure the bottleneck is
4460s	pure coins give us more coins for the
4463s	love of God and everything is Holy give
4464s	us more coins I think the issue is that
4467s	coins are very how to say like when
4469s	people ask for a buff they want to see
4471s	like a clear buff in BR pass which is
4472s	like a recurrent uh thing that you can
4475s	always see how in the long term is
4477s	getting buffed right but today we just
4479s	announced that the mega Pig event will
4482s	be run for four weekends in a row weeks
4484s	yeah so that's already a buff right and
4487s	then as we communicated in the uh in the
4490s	Broast communication we want to run more
4493s	crazy events like the shooting star
4495s	drops or things like that like we want
4497s	to have like this uh what say budget of
4500s	resources that we can include in those
4502s	events to make those events uh better
4505s	it's like uh I don't think okay so like
4506s	you're just saying that basically like
4508s	instead of like a static you know
4510s	non-stop buff you know you're having
4512s	bigger special events and that would be
4513s	the buff to those things that's cool and
4515s	that's good for you know like me and
4517s	players to look at it in that respect

4522s	bad thing of that is that play don't
4524s	perceive yeah as a buff because they see

4541s	it's not a new one but you know star
4543s	drops which I think star drops are
4545s	pretty great if you ask over on Reddit

4582s	token in this where you can go over
4583s	catalog and pick out whatever skin you

4587s	actually feels like a reward and not a

4597s	ability allows us to give more so like

4848s	killed extremely close like during
4852s	during those 18 months we as a
4855s	team probably talked once a week about
4858s	whether we should kill brawl star like
4860s	it was a very common discussion and and
4863s	just to give a little context I think
4864s	many of you know this but at supercell
4866s	we want to make games that are played
4868s	for years and remembered forever so the
4869s	bar is really really high and we needed
4872s	brawl star to get to that bar before we
4874s	could consider a global launch so as a
4877s	game team working on a beta this bar
4881s	that you want to hit is important and
4884s	there's also this idea that if you
4885s	believe that the game you're working on
4887s	just isn't going to get there it's on
4890s	you to kill that game and move on to a
4892s	new project so you can make the next
4894s	thing and that's kind of the thought
4897s	process that we had throughout and we
4898s	were I think it was a healthy discussion
4901s	on whether we should kill the game but
4902s	for a long time we were far from the
4905s	metrics that we needed to get to but
4908s	I'll repeat the thing that we all knew
4910s	is that the core gameplay was good we
4912s	all knew it was good the whole time so
4915s	we had to figure out was it the meta was
4917s	it skins was it what were we missing
4919s	what was the missing piece there and we
4921s	all believed we could find it but there
4923s	was a moment in uh
4928s	2018 I don't know there was a Moment One
4930s	Summer this is before we launched on
4932s	Android and beta and we we launched
4936s	Android during that summer before summer
4938s	we were all pretty convinced we would
4940s	kill the game we were fairly certain
4943s	and so launching on Android was like a
4945s	last Dash it was a Hail Mary to just say
4949s	you know what let's put it on Android
4950s	we'll go on Finland we go on summer
4952s	break in July let's put it on Android
4954s	let's see what happens and that was our
4956s	kind of Our Last Hope and we went on
4958s	summer break and we got back and the
4960s	metrics were good they were better
4962s	things were improving and we realized at
4964s	that moment that people want to play
4966s	with their friends and when you're only
4968s	on one uh one platform you can't cuz
4971s	some of your friends are on Android some
4972s	are on iPhone and you can't invite all
4974s	of your friends to play this game so
4976s	that was one of the magic keys that
4978s	started to unlock it for us and made
4980s	made the game a lot more feasible but a
4983s	very long-winded way of answering your
4984s	question yeah we were close many times
4987s	many
4989s	times how different uh so many lives
4992s	would be had it been killed absolutely
4994s	and I'm and my family is included
4996s	everybody at that table 100% your life
4999s	would be so much different right now and
5001s	it took the belief of a lot of people
5003s	te to just stand up and say we know this
5006s	game is good we know we can do it
5007s	including Frank who came in some mons
5010s	before that and basically said this game
5013s	is too good to kill and he came into the
5015s	team with a vision and said we're going
5017s	to make it work we have to make it work
5019s	and that really helped us you know get
5021s	over the hump and launch it
5023s	beautiful that's awesome Danny give us

5135s	did it again just you know like to have
5137s	this multiple Tak just in case torturing

5145s	exploded like the third time I had to go
5147s	through the speech again I was like just
5150s	you can use this Ste but like I'm not
5151s	going to do it again
5153s	yeah I remember I was also like shooting
5155s	I was already here at that time and I
5157s	was like just behind the scenes shooting
5158s	like some uh behind the scen scenes with
5160s	the with the phone and when I started
5162s	seeing Paulo crying I started feeling
5164s	super guilty and I just put the phone
5166s	down I deleted the video I was like okay

5173s	enough how about for you the be the most
5176s	memorable moment most memorable moment I
5178s	think um you would think it would be the
5180s	global launch when we launch the game
5182s	across the world but actually for me it
5184s	was when we announced that we were going
5186s	to go Global that was my favorite moment
5189s	and definitely the most memorable for
5192s	those who weren't around I played a very
5193s	dirty trick on everyone and very heavily
5196s	implied to everybody that we were going
5198s	to kill the game and uh deleted
5201s	everything off of all of our social
5203s	media and just put one post that said we
5205s	need to talk and I didn't tell the
5207s	YouTubers I didn't tell anybody what was
5210s	going on except that there was a big
5211s	announcement and seeing
5213s	uh everyone's reaction to that was like
5217s	the dream come true from when I was a
5218s	little kid it was great yeah that was
5221s	amazing for you as well it was fun I
5223s	still I still think that I I will always
5226s	think of the moment in Helsinki when me
5229s	Kyros and Ash pressed the button to
5231s	launch brawl Stars globally uh on in
5235s	Europe and in the US that was just like
5238s	the culmination of 18 months of work and
5241s	not knowing to it's real this is live
5245s	this is a whole new chapter to my life
5248s	which was pretty special
5249s	moment how about you Marcio yeah I would
5252s	say the bro talk as well like it's it's
5255s	something that I always saw like working
5257s	on other companies as well and like from
5259s	the outside like just seeing these thing
5261s	that looked so fun to do and like so
5264s	imaginative and there was like so like
5266s	the costumes the the backgrounds like
5268s	everything and the first time that I
5271s	actually saw you guys doing like the
5273s	rumble jungle I think like that was a
5275s	really nice set yeah I was so impressed

5279s	believe that I'm actually going to be in
5281s	one of these things and then actually
5283s	shooting the one with the with the fight
5285s	and there were and a very special thing
5288s	was that there was the three of us there
5289s	as well so I see knew guys a lot and I

5294s	know the dream working with these two
5295s	guys so it was like very very emotional
5298s	and I was just trying to be serious all
5300s	the time and not be like oh my God

5306s	it's it's not even a bro well it is
5309s	related to bro talk but I think it was
5310s	when we released the first L piece like
5313s	the Star Park campaign cuz like we we
5316s	are doing like this Premiere we like we
5318s	we were heading Cra Crazy numbers and I
5321s	think was it the year after like we got
5323s	like 1 million uh people watching uh the
5327s	premiere at the same time which is like
5329s	a crazy number right mhm but then like
5331s	these yeah so we were having like the
5333s	star partk campaign and bro talk was
5337s	like glitching already and then like it
5338s	starts getting weirder and then my head
5340s	explodes and then like in a live stream
5342s	with like 800,000 people watching there
5345s	was a silence like nobody was commenting
5348s	anything cuz they were like what what's
5350s	happening right and then like it was the
5352s	first time I see like a stream like
5355s	getting silent mhm like because prior to
5357s	that the chat was like so fast it was
5360s	like unreadable it was so quick and then
5363s	for a moment it just
5365s	stopped and I think it was like the most
5368s	impressive uh moment and then in this
5370s	there was a comment I still remember is
5372s	someone say like Make It
5376s	Stop which is exactly what we wanted
5379s	with the campaign so yeah I think it was
5381s	such a powerful moment so I have a
5383s	question for you all it's from it's
5386s	actually this that's the name of the
5388s	player what do you think of the current
5390s	state of the community right now
5393s	very broad yeah maybe not if you are not
5396s	following but have you been following me

5401s	following the community I'm always
5403s	luring but I think it's better that that
5405s	you guys comment on it you know better
5408s	maybe Lex I would like to see Le's point
5410s	of view well I mean he did say right now
5414s	and right now there's a lot of
5416s	uncertainty I think from players that
5418s	you know they're nervous about upcoming
5420s	changes and rightfully so

5425s	that it's it's a it's a good thing so

5444s	end once they see it all and once you
5446s	get to play it hopefully it'll all be

5456s	through some changes there's lots of
5458s	stuff happening and there's lots of
5459s	things plan to happen as well but uh
5462s	overall it's still good to see like

5467s	newcomer that there's a lot of trust in
5469s	the developers a lot of trust in the
5471s	team a lot of trust in us trying to do
5473s	the the right thing which I believe that
5475s	we are yeah and uh also being honest
5478s	about it and uh I think that's something
5481s	that's been existing at least from my
5483s	time here and I haven't seen that change
5487s	so yeah yeah actually talk about trust
5489s	and then I think that's that a thing
5491s	that I think it's funny because like we
5493s	have we have like a proven history of
5496s	like listening the players and changing
5498s	things that is not working out but then
5501s	every time you release something they
5502s	like oh no it's the time now they are
5504s	going like full like payu wi and those
5506s	greedy bastards and like like like
5509s	haven't we given them enough uh examples
5513s	for you to trust us but um I think it's
5515s	funny it's just like an emo reaction and
5517s	actually that was part of the strategy
5518s	of the communication we we did with the
5521s	BR pass cuz we knew like the first day
5524s	it's going to be all about emotions
5525s	right we don't want to expect anyone to
5527s	go deep and like see the benefits or the
5530s	actual changes and then I even told like
5533s	Paula and Drew because like actually I I
5535s	shared the document with Drew which has
5538s	been through a similar situation with
5540s	Royale right it's like he shared the
5542s	learnings like how he would have done uh
5545s	better so like it was really useful for
5547s	us as well but then I thought like my
5549s	strategy is like we drop the content I
5551s	go play PS5 for like the next few days
5553s	and then on Monday I'll see the comments
5555s	and which never happened actually was
5558s	reading the comments but
5559s	anyway but I did play some uh Spider-Man
5562s	uh but um yeah so I think
5566s	um the state is that uh I think we've
5569s	yeah we've given like a lot of uh examp
5572s	examples of like why they should trust
5573s	us and like what we want is what they
5575s	should want as well because the best for
5577s	the game uh but um I think like right
5581s	now we are in a good place cuz they know
5585s	they can like uh trust us and read the
5588s	communications we are providing there
5590s	and then everything we put out there we
5592s	kind of like solve quickly like for
5594s	example the exclusive Kings uh drama or
5597s	um polemic that we yeah we made a
5601s	mistake on how we awarded and how we uh
5604s	asked the question but then we quickly
5606s	came to a solution that pleased most of
5608s	the the players and now with the past
5611s	that is like it's not exactly like a bad
5613s	news but uh it's actually above to
5615s	progression so yeah lots of things I I
5618s	think we are not one thing I do
5620s	appreciate one thing I appreciate with
5623s	the way you guys did this Danny I will
5624s	say is that a you gave us a long heads
5627s	up I mean this these changes aren't
5628s	going to be taking place until early
5629s	next year which is a great thing thank
5631s	you you for giving us such a big heads
5633s	up and secondly is that you know there
5636s	wasn't any kind of like uh cryptic
5639s	language or anything you just you laid
5640s	it all out exactly what's going to
5642s	happen so there's nothing hidden it's
5644s	all transparent and we know when it's
5646s	going to happen and what exactly is
5648s	going happen and so I think that that's
5650s	a big thing to you know help bolster the
5655s	trust that you have built in with the
5657s	community yeah and that's part of
5660s	the
5663s	yeah and that's part of our vision I got

5668s	as well of uh the the relationship we
5671s	want to have with the community is one
5672s	of trust of clarity of like giving

5689s	put everything out right to break down

5743s	scared for her games Community is if the
5745s	reaction not that it's negative but that
5748s	it's silence that there's no reaction
5750s	because that means the players stopped
5752s	caring and that's the time I as a
5755s	community manager would be scared or
5757s	would think that the community is is uh
5760s	unhealthy because every player I think
5763s	has a vision for the game that's in
5766s	their heads and that because they love
5768s	the game and they see the future of it
5770s	that they want to happen and of course
5773s	we have millions of players and we can't
5774s	deliver millions of different Vision so
5776s	naturally we'll we'll give something
5778s	that won't be exactly what they hope for
5780s	but H hopefully it's something that
5781s	they'll end up enjoying at least that's

6112s	inside there is a design for a character
6114s	and very very like specific like
6116s	mechanics and and they write everything
6118s	by hand and so sweet it's like and then

6131s	amazing but yeah I like the EDG in this

6215s	actually made it into the game but I

6451s	especially for our audience like so like
6453s	no uh teenager or like young adult watch

6459s	then I wanted to make like how can I
6461s	make it the same Vibes but something
6463s	fresh and like something very unique and
6465s	I was adding like lot of layers on top
6467s	of that like it has to be fastpac and
6469s	then like needs to have a countown so
6471s	like every time the countdown uh ends
6473s	like it changes everything so like you
6475s	have the people watching the whole thing
6477s	it's like it maybe it was too complex
6480s	and then the second one I was super
6481s	proud because like we kind we eliminated
6484s	the complexity of the first one which is
6486s	like a very simple story uh it's easy to
6489s	follow we highlight the the winners a
6492s	lot more but it's still it is a lot of
6495s	work and like those guys behind the
6497s	cameras also can can they know because a
6499s	lot of the work is on them
6501s	but um yeah I felt like uh I I talked to
6505s	Ryan already I think the first BR is I
6508s	felt almost like a glimpse of
6510s	burnout because I I I was coming to work
6514s	and then I didn't I didn't have the
6516s	passion to give feedback to the thing
6518s	anymore like if I see something I don't
6520s	agree I was like whatever I'm focusing
6522s	like I don't have time to argue I just
6524s	need to get these things done and then
6526s	like it was a really nice thing to like
6530s	maybe like should I just maybe don't do
6533s	don't go crazy on working right even
6536s	though I was passionate about the
6537s	project I was it it was a really I know

6546s	also just busy you were nonstop for the
6549s	whole I don't know three months before
6550s	the bres came out super super busy yeah
6553s	and that was on top of everything I was
6554s	doing right so it's BR talk there was
6556s	the World Finals and then the BR which
6559s	is like to to to have idea then
6561s	explaining why we we probably don't
6564s	won't have a broad list this year we had
6566s	the script done in August so the script
6569s	was done in August and everything is
6570s	just production right between that yeah
6573s	and also because you want to highlight
6575s	uh players throughout the year like you
6578s	you need to do you need to wait almost
6580s	until the end to find the the winners
6583s	because you otherwise if you do it too
6585s	soon if you do it in August then when
6587s	you have the actual time to do it then
6590s	winners are not ready because there are
6592s	still like things to come during the
6595s	year so so it needs kind of it needs to
6598s	be a bit like last minute thing
6599s	especially to pick the winners and stuff

6603s	was super fun yeah U but the especially
6606s	the first one it was it was a lot but uh

6848s	braw community is toxic at all I think
6850s	it's a it's a really good and healthy

6854s	people that are unhappy and some people
6856s	who take it too far with their
6857s	unhappiness but I think overall it's
6860s	really really good community and a
6862s	shining example in the gaming industry

6887s	still in the honeymoon uh period mhm but
6890s	I think this honeymoon has been lasting

6902s	were just releasing the game and that

6934s	game and that it was really hard we were
6936s	preparing a lot of stuff and this
6938s	comment said like just take a longer
6940s	vacation rest and then come back like

6947s	months of holidays like go away like
6949s	don't don't worry about it and I was
6951s	like reading that and I I've never seen
6954s	any any game commenting something like
6956s	that telling the developers to take
6957s	holidays and vacations and to rest he's

6968s	the community is not that t i mean
6970s	there's there's times obviously people
6971s	have their moments but overall no I
6973s	think the community is just extremely

7206s	basically a couple working hours overlap

7638s	like sometimes is inspired by the

7645s	ways that we can accommodate him in the
7647s	game in the law or something mhm that's

7659s	give to for people that want to do what
7661s	you do right now uh your best piece of

7673s	community team in super is that everyone
7675s	has a different background so there is
7678s	not really I I still haven't there there
7680s	are of course courses and like degrees
7682s	that you can that they are specialized
7685s	in like community and stuff but like I
7687s	don't think like none of us has has that
7690s	in their like background or like not as
7693s	main thing so it's really interesting
7695s	how every experience every like thing
7697s	you do counts for like the thing you can
7701s	end up doing so like it's is yeah it's
7704s	just a matter of like Gathering all
7706s	those things and and just use your
7708s	experience and like to to kind of like
7710s	build your your own like way to to do
7714s	what you what you want to do and this I
7716s	think applies to everything not just
7718s	Community but it's just interesting how
7720s	in the community team we are so like
7722s	different and with different backgrounds

7764s	thing is don't overanalyze it just get

7775s	look for the open positions of commun

7951s	insightful to read everything and see

8202s	development moves so quickly that we're
8204s	just not fast enough to be able to get
8206s	relevant feedback for the team we do

8212s	feedback what you like what you dislike

8215s	trophy uh changes now uh so like we are
8219s	not explaining what we're doing but
8221s	we're just asking like what do you think
8222s	or what do you like in this like and I
8224s	think for especially for new games um uh
8227s	we also um have the content creators the
8229s	in the program and that we we constantly
8232s	ask for feedback and because in the end
8234s	this game they're going to play the game
8236s	and the players going to play the game

8239s	like we cannot reveal everything to
8241s	everyone but like I think content
8244s	creator being a content creator is also
8245s	a great way to like you know like slowly
8248s	like getting getting closer to the to

8328s	pretty big video that would um a lot of
8330s	people would enjoy and I actually
8332s	messaged Danny and I actually just asked
8335s	for like hey I'm like hey can you make
8338s	this custom quest for me where I can
8339s	deal a million damage with grow and it
8341s	just comes to me but that wasn't
8343s	technically possible so we started just
8345s	brainstorming some other ideas and
8347s	actually I so it was Danny's idea for
8350s	the the challenging game um I had the
8354s	idea but I honestly I was too I was like
8356s	I don't want to ask for that that's
8358s	that's asking too much so I'm not going
8359s	to ask for it but when he said it I'm
8360s	like oh yes yes but uh so anyways it was
8364s	just I I approached them with the idea
8365s	of this big video that I thought would
8367s	be cool including tons of people and we
8370s	just worked together to find some sort
8371s	of thing that the in-game could support
8373s	the video and vice versa yeah and also
8376s	like uh yeah you pick like the maps like
8379s	the maps you created and I think it was
8380s	super fun they're maps that I had made
8382s	yeah and I chose the I I wanted chaos
8385s	and it and it was indeed chaos
8389s	it though I thought it was fun some
8391s	people hated it some people loved it
8393s	that's good yeah and of course like it
8394s	caused some drama like why Lex and not
8396s	the others but like Lex approached me
8399s	first like he and then I think we are
8401s	open to hear everyone's proposal and I
8403s	even talks to the creators like hey if
8406s	you have a great idea tell me and nobody
8409s	talks to me ever actually there's one
8411s	creator that I won't review yet but we
8413s	are doing something similar to another
8415s	Creator because he reach yeah he reach
8417s	big milestone yeah so like if that's one
8420s	of you guys creators are in the future
8422s	yeah get a good idea a big idea flush it
8425s	out propose it to him and see if it's
8426s	something that you can work out it's got
8428s	to be a good idea though I think that's
8430s	important too is is uh the fleshing it
8432s	out like if you come and say Hey I want
8434s	to do something cool we don't know yeah
8436s	but if you come with like a clear idea
8438s	and like here's what I would need from
8439s	the game or here's what I need from you
8441s	guys here's how you can support me it

8850s	how it uh what led it to what led you to

8857s	here I mean well I can start like I I've
8861s	always been a gamer and like really
8863s	really passionate and I just ever since
8865s	I was a kid I knew that I wanted to work
8867s	in games I don't I didn't know if I
8869s	wanted to make them or if I wanted to I
8871s	don't know be an artist as well like uh
8873s	any kind of these things and I think
8876s	when uh I found these opportunities that
8878s	uh led me more or less in the direction
8880s	of where I went to now and it was just
8882s	stuff like player support or something
8884s	like that even just that I was already
8886s	like super excited to be into and then
8888s	just seeing like uh opport more
8891s	opportunities coming up like I just
8893s	never had any doubt and I guess I had
8895s	like also a little bit of a a talent for
8897s	communications or content creation or
8899s	something like that and it's just kind
8902s	of happened but the original thing was
8905s	just to wanting to be in games and then
8907s	finding out that this was kind of some
8910s	skills that I had both things matched
8912s	and yeah magic magic yeah the passion
8917s	for games I think is is like number one
8920s	for me number two is passion for social
8922s	media in general like I I I just I just
8925s	love social media and I and I spend the
8927s	hours and I and I do that like for my
8929s	like personal stuff and for for work and
8932s	I I never get get tired of it and also
8935s	video creation like um yeah all all like
8938s	content Creation in general is something
8940s	I really enjoy as a hobby and as a as a
8942s	work so so yeah I think those three
8945s	three things are for me the
8949s	reason I I so how the question was how
8953s	we got here as Community manager I was
8955s	uh you guys have all heard this story
8957s	but I was uh uh in law school in
8960s	California and I played Clash of Clans a
8962s	ton a ton a ton to where the point where
8965s	I was not paying attention in law school
8968s	and just playing Clash of Clans under
8969s	the desk and I got invited out here to
8971s	Helsinki for clashcon because I played a
8974s	ton and I was also a moderator of the
8976s	Clash of Clans subreddit at the time so
8977s	they invited me out here as a fan and uh
8980s	I was going to law school my intention
8982s	was to be uh an attorney in video games
8985s	and I came out to this event and started
8987s	meeting people and asking them how they
8988s	got into the industry and some people at
8990s	supercell gave me a business
8992s	card I said what the hell and I applied
8994s	it was the only non-law job I applied
8996s	for and uh of I flew out to Helsinki I
9001s	did my interviews and on that trip I
9003s	learned that I had passed the bar while
9005s	I was traveling to Helsinki but once I
9008s	got out here and I met all the people
9010s	and saw the company and I I immediately
9013s	knew that I was going to throw away law
9015s	and become a community man manager and
9017s	so I did and 8 years later I'm still
9019s	here and best decision I ever
9023s	made and you d uh not so exciting like I
9027s	was a brow player before and then I was
9030s	a community manager in another company
9031s	so I kind of like it fit then I apply
9034s	and I
9036s	passed no beautyful yeah I can make it
9040s	betiful but that's the reality and like
9041s	go when you were interviewing at
9043s	supercell who was the hardest
9045s	interview um Frank Seth Seth no
9052s	uh no I think maybe Marik and Nana was
9056s	the ones that I I I had yeah they are
9060s	not uh on the on
9062s	camera but yeah cuz Frank like we
9064s	clicked cuz like uh like I didn't know
9067s	he had saved brawl back then and then
9069s	like I I said like oh I love this game I
9071s	think this is the game that's going to
9072s	change the industry and so like I guess
9074s	like oh I guess he also thought so
9077s	but um yeah and then I had jume and and
9080s	Ryan in the beginning and then Drew and
9082s	another Community manager for Royale and
9084s	then the Drew one I think it was the I
9086s	don't want to say the easiest but it was
9087s	because they just talking about games
9089s	and it was really fun and like super
9091s	casual but um yeah I think he was like
9093s	more A vibe check MH but yeah how about
9098s	you I think my hardest interview was was
9102s	probably with the game lead of uh boom
9104s	beach at the time he's a finnished guy
9105s	and for those who haven't met Finns
9106s	they're very excellent poker face like
9109s	really like Stout good poker face and
9112s	you you know you can't tell what they're
9113s	thinking really and I'm American and
9115s	we're very like hey how you doing blah
9116s	blah anyway at the end of the interview
9118s	I I kind of jokingly asked like how did
9120s	I do and his answer with just the most
9123s	poker face ever was just like you did
9125s	fine I was like oh God and finding
9128s	finish is like yeah you done yeah for a
9131s	b that's pretty good that's like means
9133s	you did you did the job you were
9134s	supposed to do you did pretty good but
9136s	at the time I was terrified how about
9138s	you Mario yeah I think it was uh Frank
9140s	like he was the most technical and uh I
9144s	think it was also the only person that I
9145s	had never interacted from the team
9147s	before because everyone else I had
9149s	spoken once or two times at least and I
9152s	just had no idea what to expect and he
9154s	had like very specific questions that I
9157s	wasn't sure if I was answering them well
9159s	or not uh so yeah I was just like I
9163s	think I entered the interview already a
9165s	little bit nervous and like wanting to
9166s	impressed or something and uh then he
9169s	was like always also very poker face
9171s	like he he wouldn't show like his his
9173s	emotions as well like if he was liking
9176s	the answers or not so it was all in my
9178s	imagination and I was just like okay
9181s	maybe maybe it didn't go
9182s	well how about you the interviews yeah I
9187s	I was so nervous I remember the it was
9190s	it was weird because I prepared my
9191s	interviews in a way that I that I
9193s	started talking and like presenting some
9196s	stuff I already like prepared so I um in
9199s	many of my interviews at the end like
9202s	the people were like okay you answered
9204s	everything we were going to ask so it
9206s	was then just a chat but I I was so so
9209s	nervous and and with especially when
9211s	meeting Frank and Ryan because I knew
9212s	their faces and and yeah I don't know it
9215s	just it was it was exciting but it was
9217s	intimidating at the same time um luckily
9221s	my cat came in every single interview so
9225s	he he was sleeping in the background and
9226s	at some point he came and it was like a
9228s	break for me to like you know like
9231s	breathe and and continue and also of
9234s	course I had my background from the
9236s	streams because I I I was streaming braw
9239s	star before joining supercell so so the
9242s	the conversation always started around
9244s	like that which was my passion so it was
9246s	like kind of like easier like starter as
9249s	well but like it was it was yeah I was
9252s	so so
9253s	stressed professional advice bring your
9255s	cat yeah yeah
9259s	bonus uh question from infero infernal
9264s	uh not not going to name them but are
9267s	you aware of some of more troubling
9270s	controversies in the community I guess
9272s	if you can name them then I don't know
9274s	but I I know some weird stuff but not to
9277s	say other words uh will there be more
9281s	social features is the same person like
9283s	there's completely bizarre question and
9285s	then there's something else with every
9287s	social features and intera Integrations
9290s	like the twitch campaign in the game
9292s	like uh that was paulas and martial um
9296s	doing but I
9298s	think like for sure we want to do more
9300s	twitch drops yeah yeah uh yeah yeah I I
9304s	would definitely like and I I'm always
9306s	pushing for these things because I I I
9308s	see a big potential on using like uh
9311s	these other platforms and the the the
9313s	stuff that they have already for the
9315s	games and and of course it takes some
9317s	like work and some implementation on our
9320s	side so it's not as easy as maybe it
9322s	looks from outside so it's not just like
9324s	going to Tweet and say hey can we use
9326s	your your technology to do this like it
9328s	requires work and and no work from me
9330s	that's the worst part that is not me
9333s	just like dedicating hours to make it
9335s	happen only is also developers that they
9338s	are you know working on the game and
9340s	doing stuff for the game so it's it's
9342s	always hard to find like the balance and
9344s	like and kind of like convince people to
9347s	to actually like prioritize these things
9349s	but but yeah definitely we'll do we'll
9351s	do more yeah not only twitch like if
9353s	there's a feature on Tik Tok for example
9355s	or YouTube then we we for sure like we
9358s	would use whatever it helps to make the
9360s	Game grow and the community engaged yeah
9363s	and then another question from H is
9364s	taking negative or neutral feedbacks as
9367s	a CM a hard pill to swallow personally
9370s	no not at all at least not for me yeah
9374s	as long as it's healthy and not like in
9376s	in a in a personal way then I'm I'm

9400s	negative comments around yeah I mean
9402s	obviously I I've seen studies before
9404s	that says that you know a negative
9406s	comment is like 12 times more impactful
9409s	than a positive comment uh which is
9412s	unfortunate because those are the ones
9413s	that stick in your brain but um as long
9417s	as somebody's like giving you some
9419s	criticism that's that's fair then you
9421s	know it's on you to internalize that and
9423s	you know make do what you will with that
9426s	but if it's just somebody just spewing
9429s	nonsense and even if there is a point
9430s	behind it you can't get past it because
9432s	it's just all you know anger and
9435s	whatever then that's a little bit harder
9437s	to swallow because it's easier just to
9439s	disregard that because they can't get a
9442s	point across without you know becoming
9444s	too emotional but criticism is good and
9447s	it helps everybody grow but yeah I will
9450s	also like if you have like some kind of
9453s	problem with the game or something that
9454s	you want to get better when we see
9456s	comments that are like this game sucks I
9458s	hate you we just blow past those and
9460s	barely read them but if I see a comment
9462s	that's like hey here are the things I
9465s	didn't like here's what I wish wish you
9466s	guys would have done I will read the
9468s	heck out of that and forward it to the
9470s	team and think about it and like really
9471s	internalize it so like if you want to
9474s	give us some critical feedback or
9476s	something you'd like to see give it that
9478s	extra step in your brain to think how
9480s	would I make this better and we will
9483s	absolutely read those and bring them
9485s	full just copy paste them to the game
9486s	teams and mostly like if you're feeling
9488s	angry and then want to comment like just
9491s	chill and don't then the next day then
9493s	you can drop your comment and it I'm
9495s	sure it'll be a lot better
9497s	um sad okay there's still a lot of
9500s	questions three and then that's it yeah

9508s	made the latest bro talks to get uh

9513s	and the updates are bigger than

9549s	with the moon I don't know it was one of

9553s	it's it's something insanely crazy like
9556s	is one um Moment Like A Life Time uh
9560s	lifetime changing moment for you it's
9562s	like we having the same numbers as this
9564s	event it's like insanely crazy and now
9567s	we have like what six million views per
9569s	update video it's like tell me how many
9572s	other games in the industry have these
9575s	number of videos con uh like constantly
9578s	in every update like not even like I
9581s	don't want to name names
9583s	but but yeah tell me like you can maybe
9585s	find one or two but it's super hard and
9589s	then it's it's normal for a game like we
9592s	release there is a peak maybe like it
9594s	grows and then the trend is to go down
9597s	but like what we're trying to do with
9598s	like all the changes we are doing is to
9600s	make it grow like at least grow in a
9602s	healthy way but like we we might never
9605s	see those numbers again and fly but like
9608s	six millions us for update video is
9610s	crazily good M and there are ups and
9613s	downs like sometimes we might make a few
9616s	updates that are more uh more popular
9617s	and that creates kind of a momentum that
9619s	then the views go up back up again then
9622s	maybe the next ones are like smaller
9624s	updates that creates another momentum to
9625s	go a little bit down like it's one or
9628s	two doesn't doesn't Define anything yeah

9633s	videos go crazy some videos don't you
9635s	never know yeah yeah no it definitely uh
9639s	what YouTube does with the algorithm
9641s	times is is a complete mystery but even
9644s	beyond that like Clash Royale and Clash
9646s	of Clans you can take a look at those I
9648s	mean there's life cycles right and they
9649s	they go there's ups and downs and
9651s	there's abs and flows sure you may not
9653s	hit that initial crazy hype that it was
9655s	at the very beginning but that's okay it
9656s	doesn't have to be there to still be
9658s	really successful and really good for
9661s	everybody involved you know regardless
9662s	of whether YouTube decides to you know
9665s	share your video to everybody on their
9667s	platform
9669s	yeah but yeah it's it's normal and it's
9672s	okay and we in we are in a good place

9681s	so open about changes and to the
9683s	community because most of the games keep
9685s	their mouth shut about problems and
9687s	upcoming changes that can influence

9701s	think we are lucky to have Frank as well
9703s	who like because many of the game leads
9706s	in in any game W like they are not that
9709s	like open or they are they are not even
9711s	that active on Twitter or like on social
9713s	media so I think it's is very powerful

9718s	then there is a CM so it's Danny and now
9720s	Marcio and there is this like you know
9722s	like group that they are um they're
9725s	willing to spend time on social media
9727s	like reading the comments and explaining
9730s	uh the things and just yeah taking the
9732s	time to do that is is really it's really
9735s	impressive like not everyone has the
9737s	time or the energy even to do that so so
9740s	yeah it's depends a lot on the on the
9742s	people as well yeah shout out to Frank
9744s	because I think yeah a lot of those
9746s	things wouldn't be possible because if
9748s	it wasn't for him because like he
9750s	already came to the game thinking of bra
9753s	will be like a game that is more
9755s	inclined to not not fully Community
9758s	Driven but like a bit Community Driven
9760s	right and I think it's um yeah a lot of
9763s	things we do like I don't know if I
9765s	present to any other company like hey we
9767s	are having this change that we're
9769s	changing the brawl pass for uh free
9772s	currency to iip and then I can I break
9774s	down the whole feature and explain
9776s	what's going to happen like most of the
9777s	companies want to do that right they
9779s	will say like no or um so we are very
9782s	lucky so like you the community is also
9784s	lucky to have Frank as a lead and it's
9786s	really nice that he supports those
9789s	things and it things to be working well
9792s	and even back when Frank first joined
9794s	the team and presented his plan to
9796s	supercell on how to get brawl star to
9798s	Global that was at the core of it was
9800s	that it would be Community Driven
9802s	Community would be first we would have
9803s	an open transparent uh uh lines of

9808s	through so that's part of brawls DNA

10013s	very tiny percent of our players right
10015s	like how how many of you are like
10017s	constantly engaging with McDonald's page
10020s	or whatever right no one right like if
10022s	you see something funny you just like or
10024s	whatever but you're not like constantly
10026s	every post you are putting like your
10028s	thoughts there so like it means that you
10030s	are highly engaged so sometimes like
10033s	what we see as a in the um on social
10037s	media is not a trend uh in the game like
10040s	there's like a lot of people that are
10042s	like they also play the same game so
10045s	like we need to also serve those players
10047s	and maybe defers from what we uh give to
10050s	you so like even though for example he
10053s	he said about the bling and the Mastery
10055s	update which is like players love that
10058s	because like his progression it's fun
10060s	like it's um nice way to get more
10063s	resources get cosmetics but then the
10065s	numbers didn't do anything like we
10067s	continue like on a
10069s	downtrend and um so like you you you can
10073s	see like there a clear example that what
10076s	we did to the game didn't change the
10078s	course of our our growth as when we
10081s	release stard drops which is like very
10083s	mixed opinions on social media then it
10086s	like it growed and then it get it became
10089s	a steady it's like that like set us the
10092s	place like okay we now know how can we
10094s	serve
10096s	uh the majority of the community without
10098s	affecting that much the the players
10100s	because of course we have to uh get some
10102s	rewards to put on St drops which make uh
10105s	progression a bit more
10106s	random but uh but it's a matter of like
10110s	looking at Trends comparing everything
10112s	if does it make sense like does this
10113s	comment is coming from
10116s	uh from uh which kind of player
10120s	perspective or or actually like there
10122s	are comments that are tied to what we
10125s	seeing game for example when we remove
10128s	boxes the the biggest comment we had was
10130s	like bring boxes back and then when we
10133s	brought star drops which is like kind of
10135s	a the same a similar
10137s	mechanic um we saw the numbers uh
10141s	growing even though they still ask for
10144s	boxes but um yeah I guess it's a matter
10147s	like like Case by case you see the
10148s	trends you analyze and then you make the
10150s	call but uh it's not super black and
10153s	white it's not like if you're seeing a
10154s	trend on the community that means that
10156s	the game needs that or like if it will
10158s	be an actual Improvement to the game so
10160s	that's why like if you see the um
10162s	something happening in Brawl is because
10165s	we want to make the Game grow uh and
10168s	then serve other people that you are not
10170s	seeing talking on social
10173s	media should we end on that serious
10176s	stone or should I get a so what you're
10179s	saying is we need a slot machine in the
