139s update was very controversial for for
142s some and I think we now have the time to
145s like explain or give the reasonings why
147s we did the things we do and let's start
150s with the hypercharge so for you guys
153s that are here on the table how do you
155s think it Go overall
159s who wants to start yeah I can start I
163s mean I think I think pretty pretty mixed
165s bag mixed bag I think for
167s like what we wanted to accomplish with
169s the gameplay is you know brawl has this
173s you know shoot shoot height heal shoot
175s high heel this Rhythm to it and we
178s really wanted to escalate the game
180s towards the end of the match or nearing
183s the middle towards in the match so you
185s go so hyper charged with this moment
186s where you get to like really turn up and
189s have this exciting moment and I think we
192s we mostly capture that obviously you
194s know lots of improvements to be made and
197s you know lots more Brawlers with
199s hypercharge to be released uh but I
202s think at the core uh we got that right
208s so yeah like uh is it fun I guess that's
212s the question
214s I guess everyone agree do you agree I
217s think it's fun I think the problem that
219s people had was that they've well
221s obviously before they didn't try it they
223s thought I'll just be like a click of a
225s button you get it all the time and
226s you're just gonna be spamming it but I
228s think as people have played it it's
229s actually just feels really good for the
231s game like it's you probably get maybe
233s one maybe two throughout the whole game
235s it doesn't make it like skillless but it
239s makes it really fun and exciting I think
240s you did capture it pretty well uh you
243s know considering my background I would
245s be pretty
247s um a lot of what is for it like
249s I'd be horsing more harsh in you guys
251s because it affect like the end game but
253s I think even from the pro side I think
255s most Pros actually pretty happy with it
256s so yeah I think it's a good addition to
258s the game yeah I will say like when we
260s think about the design we were thinking
261s about you know every
264s brawler has hypercharged all six players
266s have hypercharged and what is the
268s interaction you know you can use it for
270s engaging you can use it for disengaging
273s or countering you know everybody on the
275s same team triggering at the same time so
277s lots of cool interactions that's kind of
279s you know missing today because in most
281s matches
282s one two or three Brawlers have it today
285s so I think a part of that balance is
288s missing for sure
290s um but yeah but I think that'll get
291s better as we
293s release more yeah I think the the one of
296s the cool things really like
298s if you're if you're just an average
301s player wants to play a couple of matches
302s a day and wants to have fun
304s If You Get Hype a judge it will not
307s transform you into a pro you will not be
309s able to roll over
310s significantly more skilled players just
312s not happening you see it all the time I
314s I think it's like we had that learning
317s from the
318s from from Showdown actually where you
321s know the power-ups that yes they're
323s giving you more power but they're not
324s necessarily giving you like I'm talking
326s about the not the general boxes together
329s but the the energy energy drop yeah what
332s is the name energy drink yeah energy
334s drink thanks so energy drinks makes you
337s stronger
339s but your headphones don't go up
341s and as a result it gives you this
342s feeling oh God all that power but at the
346s end of the day if someone is just
347s hitting you you you're you know you're
350s still being taken out
351s and here we wanted to aim for the same
354s and it feels in fact it feels the same
356s it's exactly the same when it comes to
358s this moment
361s um for me personally I think they are
362s really fun actually especially if you
365s time them right and if you know like if
366s you're not just triggering them the
368s moment you get them available
370s but if you wait for that moment and then
372s you're going all in with it that feels
374s just like
375s that feels almost like you're
376s unstoppable for a moment and there's a
378s really good feeling
380s so so if I compare that with what we had
382s in that slot before which was a gear
385s yeah I think it's a vast Improvement

389s what one of the feedbacks I've seen a
391s lot online and I I tend to agree with is
394s we wanted we wanted this to be two
396s pieces right so there's the you're just
398s getting stronger faster whatever
400s I think that's pretty static and we
402s configured actually per brawler so we
404s have some differences there
407s and that's one component for it but the
408s other is making your super just better
411s but what we aim for design wise is to
413s have it should still be the same super
416s because else it changes so many things
418s if you change completely up you know if
420s Shelley's shot all of a sudden wouldn't
422s be a shot anymore
423s yeah so so for us it was important that
426s it still has the same functionality
428s but more
430s um for some of the for for the initial
432s batch of six
434s um
435s maybe it feels like a lot of them are
437s very similar we get that but for example
439s for the next batch of six there's
440s already some which just make some
442s interactions different
444s can I give a spoiler Danny sure
446s so one one of one of the next six ones
450s first spoiler my wow already yeah
454s go ahead go ahead go nuts but one of the
457s next Brawlers which will get hyper
459s charges Rosa
461s um
462s and and and draws us when you when you
465s trigger a bubble there's going to be an
467s additional effect around her
469s which impacts the other players
472s so for example in Rosa's case that would
474s be slow that's the current design right
476s we are still there's still weeks in the
479s making so that might still change so
480s that's maybe the caveat I want to give
482s but just imagine right now when you
484s trigger the bubble people try to run
485s away from you Etc but in the future when
488s you trigger the bubble
489s just imagine roots coming out of out of
492s the ground and keeping you in place or
494s slowing you down at least so that makes
496s a bubble even more menacing right
498s because then you can just
500s destroy everything in your path so if I
502s think like Kairos gave that feedback is
505s a couple of players gave that feedback
507s and I think it's fair it's like it
509s should be like maybe a little bit more
511s for the supers
512s and of course we can always go back to
514s the ones which didn't quite hit the mark
515s and tune them better yeah and I think
518s another feedback that I heard is about
520s like how why the stats uh buff or like
523s why so like um I know obvious or like as
526s this strength buff but I also like it's
529s something that we want the casuals to
531s desire to go to level 11 and when they
533s reach that level that they have like uh
535s they they feel the power right because
537s Gadget is kind of like skill based
539s sometimes or like uh star powers are
541s passives like most of them don't
543s understand what a passive ability does
545s and then uh gears is also something that
548s doesn't You Don't See Clearly the effect
549s right so we wanted like something really
552s obvious that like you got it you see the
554s impact
555s um and yeah I guess that's why the we
558s came with this design
560s you don't need a University degree to
562s figure out what's happening when someone
563s is glowing purple and no yeah fire I
566s just ran on it I think it's very
568s readability was important for us like
570s for average players yeah average players
572s should just see whoa what the hell is
574s going on over there
575s purple Flames maybe I'll stay away from
577s that so it's very intuitive from that
580s side yeah yeah and then and I think from
584s like design perspective sometimes we
586s approach it from like the mechanical
587s level sometimes we approach it from the
589s feeling level and then you know shout
591s out to to V uh I think one of the first
593s like remarks on this was Hey what if it
596s felt like you know Dragon Ball Z Super
599s Saiyan mode like we really wanted to
601s capture that
602s um so yeah
604s now did achieve our goals
609s I think it's too early to tell to be
611s honest as Jeff pointed out there's only
613s one only yeah six yeah so far after that
617s so so it's like it's really way too
619s early to tell if it achieved or didn't
620s achieve our goals
622s one thing
624s one thing we are still discussing and
626s we're probably changing for the next
627s update is how we are rolling them out

632s we are we're not entirely sure that our
634s rollout strategy the pricing and all of
636s that was ideal

639s so we'll see we're likely still
641s experimenting with this
642s for for a spend maybe like because from
645s the player's perspective and a segue to
647s what you're said uh what could we have
650s done better like maybe like releasing
652s more of course it's obvious thing
653s because it's a capacity that we only
656s have uh enough time and resources to do
659s a certain amount of things but uh from
662s your perspective what could have be we
663s have done better
666s I think uh well we kind of covered it in
669s a sense I think the thing for me was the
671s fact that it was only literally like six
672s but obviously you had to push out the
675s update obviously else we wouldn't have
676s got anything at all so yeah I think for
680s me like going into like a ladder game
681s for example when there's say that only
683s six brothers out of 70 that will have
685s the hyper charging I was thinking you
687s know if these upper charges are like
688s really overpowered then it will be quite
690s frustrating but you know quickly after a
693s day of playing it you saw it it actually
694s really fit the game
695s so I think for me for me it's really
698s good you said as well I would get over
701s the coin economy how you're unsure like
704s the good thing is is that it's better to
707s make it a bit more expensive and bring
708s it down than doing the opposite well I
710s think you've already mentioned that
711s before but to me I've got really no
713s complaints about that and probably the
716s fact you have to wait two weeks for it
718s can be you know a lot of people have
720s been saying it can be a bit frustrating
722s maybe you could change that to a little
724s bit shorter because
726s you know you kind of want the feeling of
729s being able to you know unlock this call
731s ability like straight away so if you see
733s with these other people running around
735s with it you kind of want that but yeah I
738s honestly don't have too many complaints
739s normally you know me as as someone who
744s plays the game a lot there's always
745s something that probably is annoying me a
746s little bit but with hypercharge think
748s it's good I think eventually once we get
750s more and more come into it you'll be
752s able to get a better understanding when
754s a lot of the Brawlers will have
755s hypercharged how the interactions will
756s go and stuff like that but
759s I've honestly haven't really many
761s complaints at the moment
763s it was really interesting to see of
765s course when when
767s I think when the teaser job people were
769s like okay it's gonna be card Evolution
771s again yeah yeah then then after World
774s talk drop people were still confused
776s there was like discussions about like
779s what will it cost Etc
781s but the price was actually in Broad top
783s yeah yeah yeah yeah and people were like
785s oh that's so expensive yeah and then
787s when the update dropped them people like
789s oh we get one free as part of an event
791s that already changed
793s and like like a few weeks in now
797s actually you see way less less talk
799s about the pricing and you see more and
802s more posts like ideas for hyper charges
804s like the Reddit you find multiple posts
807s now where people talk about hey I have
809s this idea for hypercharters so it's
811s already starting to inspire some people
812s so but it's interesting how that
814s conversation changed over the course of
816s seven days yeah like like from what the
819s hell to oh hmm
822s this might work and yeah as you said
825s like the moment people got their hands
826s on I think it all changed somewhat yeah
829s yeah and I think like actually it's a
832s some part of like our strategy like when
834s we announced something we know that the
837s first comments will be very emotional
839s it's like we don't try to address then
841s right away because we know there is
843s almost no Wing because reason won't beat
845s emotion but then like if you wait for a
848s few days like it starts like to ease
850s down before it starts to assimilate what
852s their uh their thoughts and then you can
854s give reason and then like oh actually
856s makes sense it's like a horrible no I
859s don't want to mention this example I've
860s mentioned after the podcast like
862s everyone everything can have a reason
864s behind it like even if like something
866s that um I know could be horrible when
868s you see first time like we didn't do
872s these things like just like throw a dice
873s and then yeah that's driver charge oh

877s we're not supposed to do that

882s uh how about for you Adrian do you think
885s what could we have done better or how do
887s you feel about hypercharge I think I
888s mean I think especially as a player I
890s would Echo the thing that maybe they
892s felt a bit underwhelming because we had
895s a lot of really cool animations to go
897s with we had a lot of hype you know you
900s wanted it to be something really big
902s like the super changes for example but I
905s did think on the other hand what we
906s nailed is is one of the fundamental
909s design pillars was that the aiming
911s shouldn't change when you get your hyper
913s super and I think that's actually very
914s important and something that's
915s overlooked because I think that could
917s cause a lot of confusion let's say
919s because you want something crazier we
921s get it but like let's say you know any
924s broad let's see yeah like Shelly
926s wouldn't shoot a shot then suddenly your
927s aiming changes and it's like what's
929s happening there so I think there's
931s there's a balance to strike there when
932s we want to make something crazier but
934s keep the inherent super Behavior the
936s same and I think we did good on that
938s part in the first batch but I think we
940s could do better on the craziness part
941s while keeping that true
943s yeah yeah and yeah and just to add to
945s that like I think whenever you know when
948s you're a player and you're thinking
949s about design it's like yeah what's the
951s coolest thing for me you know I'm a 30
954s 000 trophy player but at the same time
956s we have to think about you know the 500
959s trophy player in the 2000 trophy player
962s and the 10th like everybody has a
964s different experience on their player
965s Journey so we need to like consider all
967s of that and and have sometimes you do
970s have to sacrifice a little bit to make
972s sure the earlier players in their
974s Journey also cannot get it have fun
976s exactly like you said you know making
978s sure the aiming is the same yeah
980s well I think it's maybe like on the on
984s the topic of the cost
986s I think it's it's maybe a nice segue in
988s another topic which bubbled up recently
991s which is China oh yeah yeah you can go
994s ahead
996s so actually with the pricing strategy
1000s some of you might have seen or not that
1002s in China the world would happen
1004s differently
1006s so they're still batches
1007s but actually
1009s their hyperchard is not available for
1012s coins in China is gems only
1015s but the gem cost is 80.
1018s so it's like
1020s it's just a different strategy
1022s and and of course we are well learning
1024s both teams are learning from each other
1026s to see what works and what doesn't work
1028s and we will keep an eye on that as well
1030s so far they seem to have quite the
1032s success with rolling it out for gems
1034s only
1034s for a lower gem price
1037s so it's something we definitely keep an
1040s eye on
1041s and yeah on the topic of China again I
1044s think right now there's some skins
1046s circulating on
1049s several
1050s leak accounts which is not so much of a
1053s leak because it's really public in China
1054s of course
1055s but yeah for a while now actually
1058s brawl in China is not operated by the
1060s browsers team
1062s here in Helsinki anymore but by a team
1064s in China
1065s and
1066s they have a lot of freedom in which
1069s direction they want to take the game
1071s and um
1072s so you will see more and more that
1074s there's deviations of how we are doing
1076s things on the things which happen in
1077s China for example they did decide to
1081s release the old exclusive skins and sell
1083s them
1085s um they are releasing hypercharge for a
1087s different price point
1088s they're releasing skins which we don't
1089s have in the rest of the world and so on
1091s and so forth and that that that gap
1094s between both versions which does get
1096s wider and wider the longer this goes so
1099s I guess what what I want to tell the
1101s community is that just because you see
1103s it's happening somewhere in China
1106s doesn't necessarily mean it happens on
1107s the rest of the world
1109s yeah and I guess like we can actually
1112s like we we need to be humbled that like
1115s maybe we don't know the Chinese market
1117s enough so that's why we have like a
1119s thing operating there and like even like
1121s in different parts of the world like
1122s maybe South America reacts differently
1124s to a feature than the European audience
1126s uh reacts so
1128s um yeah they are doing what they think
1130s is the best for the game based on the
1132s culture and everything so
1134s let's see and then I guess like as you
1136s said if something is really popular
1138s Somehow Here in the west Maybe
1140s we could
1142s bring it or I don't know yeah yeah it's
1145s totally a possibility if we see lucky
1146s skin being hyper popular in China yeah
1148s that we that we
1151s try to get that skin into the version
1152s for the rest of the world hyper popular
1155s you say
1157s uh about hyper chart that someone wants
1161s to comment something else I think we oh
1163s I mean I just want to mirror what Adrian
1165s said really like from the trailer I was
1168s explaining to Danny before and they
1169s literally it felt like a movie like
1171s Danny said he's scripted it by the way

1178s already it was amazing

1182s normally on my channel I'm a competitive
1183s and you know I focus on the meta but I
1187s actually wanted to break it down because
1188s it was so good as like a masterpiece and
1190s it brought a lot of hype and I really
1191s did enjoy it I did enjoy it and for me I
1195s thought it was going to be something a
1196s little bit different like a second Super
1198s and you know I wasn't disappointed by
1200s Harbor charge but maybe that could even
1202s be some for the future that's what I'm
1204s kind of hoping for because
1206s you know if you've already mentioned it
1207s as well how a few of the Brawlers maybe
1210s the hypercharge is a bit lacklust you
1212s know for example the one that I'm mainly
1214s concerned with you can change it like
1215s the the Pearl hyper challenge doesn't
1217s really feel too great I know you've got
1219s to involve a super air around it but it
1221s doesn't feel as satisfying as like I
1224s don't know a Shelley super or Spike
1226s super light that's massive so I mean you
1229s can you guys will learn and make things
1231s better I think what people forget is
1233s that it's just literally the first
1234s introduction like it's so hard to you
1236s can test it out whenever however I was
1238s behind the scenes but you never know
1240s what it's going to be like in games so
1242s yeah it's not been like a car crash like
1244s some people make out when brotalk came
1247s out everyone was like on fire but like I
1250s said you've got to wait for a few days
1251s people got to get their hands on the
1253s game and then everyone was like oh it's
1255s not not too bad this time that's quite
1258s fun maybe it should have been super
1260s chaotic and Powerful maybe if that's
1263s what they wanted I guess just one thing
1265s like what could have been done better
1267s like I felt that because when we
1269s introduced a teaser people were
1271s expecting for a second Super a stronger
1273s super right and then I even mentioned
1275s like in the first meetings we have a
1276s hyper about hypercharge I mentioned that
1278s uh maybe we are missing an opportunity
1281s because like we are introducing
1282s something super strong but what when
1286s whatever thing we would release on top
1289s of what we have what is Gears it would
1291s have already feel super strong already
1293s right because they don't know anything
1294s uh players don't have anything to
1296s compare so I wonder like if we missed an
1298s opportunity that maybe in the future
1300s like five years from now power level 11
1303s uh 12. we would have like the
1306s hypercharged Super Saiyan mode and then
1308s now we would only introduce the second
1310s Super right but uh I think like the
1313s design how it is it feels super good
1315s when you uh use it and maybe only like
1317s this stronger super I think it would
1320s even be more Niche so like maybe the the
1323s casuals wouldn't even manage to take
1326s advantage of it right because maybe for
1328s the pros like they will need to think
1329s like should I use my super now or should
1331s I use my stronger super later but for
1333s the Casual like whatever they see the
1334s flashy button and then and it should
1337s still be fun right like that's the point
1338s you should be able to press that flash
1339s button and feel good about it yeah yeah
1341s so yeah
1343s um yeah I mean I I'll add to that I
1345s think I think could we have used more
1348s play test time yes yeah because we have
1350s been even more creative with some of the
1353s supers yeah I think so I think I know my
1356s friends talks about this a lot it's
1358s always a balance and trade-off between
1359s like Hey we're a live game you know you
1362s guys expect updates and cool stuff to
1365s happen and we got to deliver so
1367s sometimes it's just hard decisions
1370s yeah and I mean just talking a little
1373s bit more about the I guess the
1375s development of hype charging it went
1376s through a lot of iteration actually we
1378s had a lot of different designs on the
1380s table I guess just to maybe spoil one of
1383s the first one which was actually that
1384s was Auto activated and not a separate
1387s button and then at some point we
1388s realized hey let's just try to put a
1390s button to see how that feels probably
1391s feels better and it did feel a lot
1393s better and so we we kind of changed
1394s Direction a few times during the
1396s development yeah and um but at some
1399s point you have to just realize you have
1400s to just put it out there otherwise
1401s you're not going to put anything out
1402s because you can polish forever that's
1404s that's never an issue but at some point
1406s you just have to deliver as well yeah
1408s and the problem was never that something
1410s is out and then it's there and we cannot
1412s change anything about it yeah yeah like
1413s I think the the Pearl hyper chart is a
1415s great example yeah I think it doesn't
1417s make sense oh wow
1421s it doesn't it doesn't it's looking at me
1424s he's looking at me he's looking at me
1425s I'm actually not sure if you came up
1427s with that but maybe you came yeah but
1430s you'd be your thinking about it let's
1432s not use names yeah no no no but you know
1435s like the fact that her hypercharge is
1436s pushing people away yeah no so her super
1439s is that you push people away and then
1441s the hyper charge generates an area yeah
1444s you shouldn't step into kind of that's
1447s yeah it's a different thing it's a book
1449s but we can go back and say it's a pack
1452s yeah part of it is a bug
1456s that's a that's a good one I gotta have
1458s that in my pocket it's a bug guts
1462s it's I mean I can use it I don't know if
1464s you can I have the actual credentials
1467s it's a bug
1469s cool
1471s um still about this update like there
1473s are a lot of uh little things together
1475s that cause like some controversy and one
1478s of them is the power level progression
1480s change
1481s the community like feels very
1484s passionate or like vocal about it at the
1487s moment and I do understand I guess like
1489s it's it's makes the gap between like a
1492s player who has resources uh higher
1494s compared to someone that doesn't
1496s but um yeah maybe like maybe Frank want
1499s to explain why we did it yeah it's
1503s pretty simple at the end of the day
1504s right when we
1506s when we did experiment with the gears
1510s um
1511s we realized pretty quickly that a change
1513s of five percent and anything you cannot
1516s feel it
1517s so literally a five percent speed change
1519s it didn't do anything
1521s and we there's five percent
1524s progression we had for the longest of
1526s time was just it was just a piece from
1529s the older days where we didn't really
1531s think about this when we did it
1532s originally
1534s um
1535s but we felt like when people you know
1537s invest time and energy to level up the
1539s broader they should feel something there
1541s should be that feeling of oh wow I
1543s actually get stronger because else why
1545s do you have power progression in the
1546s first place
1547s so
1548s we you know if you're free to play or
1551s not we believe that we give you enough
1553s resources to level up Brothers
1555s you might have to make better decisions
1557s and yes because we transitioned from the
1558s old world to the new world
1560s it might lead to a situation where you
1562s felt like oh
1563s I pushed all my brothers to power seven
1565s now I wish I could have
1567s pushed off some Brawlers to power 9 or
1569s 11. okay that's fair
1571s but you know when you came in come in as
1573s a new player today you won't care
1576s because you're just growing up with it
1578s and if you're a very experienced player
1580s you're mixed anyway yeah and then you
1581s also don't care then the only thing you
1583s might care about is the the gadgets and
1585s star powers that it's not percentage
1586s based but we're gonna fix that yeah with
1588s the next update
1589s so
1591s yeah is that another spoiler already no
1593s yeah we already we already talked about
1595s okay no but but I think it's really like
1598s what's really important is that when you
1600s level up your character you should feel
1601s the difference before and after yeah and
1603s with five percent that was not the case
1606s and now it's the case
1608s and actually like if you go to like the
1610s concept of like what upgrading something
1612s in a game means like I don't know let's
1615s speak Dark Souls like you upgrade your
1616s weapon or your character and then you
1618s want to go to the same enemy and then
1620s you beat them easier right because like
1622s uh you want to feel that you're stronger
1624s like if everyone is like on the same
1625s level then what is the meaning of
1627s upgrade and I think one um point that
1630s you missed like
1631s progression is like one of the core
1633s pillars of our game right it's super
1635s important and then we have like this
1637s thing that you don't feel that you're
1638s actually progressing yeah
1640s yeah the call Loop is really like
1643s you know two players play against each
1645s other or three or three or whatever it
1647s is
1648s you're all on the same level
1651s um someone is winning because they're
1653s slightly better than the other person
1655s then instead of being stuck there with
1657s that situation you have a way out which
1660s I can't keep playing grinding
1662s get enough materials to level up my my
1666s character
1667s and try again maybe then I win and then
1669s pushes the other person then do the same
1671s so it's an arms race in a way
1674s and and this cycle of getting stronger
1677s in Cycles that's just part of the game
1679s today yeah
1681s how do you feel spend
1683s I mean me personally I don't really feel
1686s like someone max player but I I
1688s understand the reasoning because it
1690s didn't really feel like I'll create a
1692s free-to-play account about a year and a

1763s almost full control of how you progress

1766s don't have like power points being given

1774s whatever you want and we didn't do any
1776s price increase to the thing so like
1778s basically as you said like a new player
1780s will join and then this is the new world

1784s level is what is blocking me from
1786s winning this match then I will upgrade
1787s my brawler or like but that's a skill

1833s want to work on

1837s gonna happen so we're designing it right

1843s less of a problem for example

1932s initial reaction is like no no don't do

1937s satisfaction for competitive players is
1939s like we're on an even playing field and
1941s I beat you therefore I'm better that
1943s feels good you know but you know for all
1945s the points mentioned like yes you get
1948s gears and star Powers at certain levels
1950s and that's meaningful but you know
1952s there's there's actually nothing now for
1954s most Brawlers at 11 right there's
1956s nothing from you know one to six so
1958s making it feel more meaningful which is
1961s really important for brawl because in
1963s Brawl there are power levels and we have
1966s a whole economy and resources that you
1968s earn and use so so yeah yep okay next

2096s our previous systems power play is is

2134s yes matchmaking improvements on the top
2137s end top end is 750 plus trophies
2140s improved
2141s matchmaking is 20 percent
2143s a bit over 20 faster
2145s and the matchmaking quality so the
2146s difference between the lowest Trophy and
2148s the highest trophy player in that match
2149s is lower
2151s so that it kind of worked
2154s but on the other side for everyone under
2157s 750 trophies which is a majority of our
2159s players they just have less
2162s diversity of game modes and actually by
2165s the time this goes out

2277s to bring back exclusive skins as is
2280s what we will do however is to bring back

2533s just stacking 10 because then out of
2535s those 10 I might be able to get like one

2548s if you get a legend drop and you get
2549s like a gadget install power that was the
2551s one that probably annoyed people a
2553s little bit more so than others I don't
2555s know how you tweak that but like for
2558s example if I was on the free-to-play
2560s account and I've just unlocked I don't
2562s know fast forward and Shelly I'm never
2564s gonna play that anyway so you get what I
2566s mean it's not exciting whereas maybe it
2568s feels just even if it was 29 gem skin
2570s that would be very exciting as a free to
2572s play but that's probably my only grudges
2574s with star drops I think just adding
2576s something exciting to the game like how
2578s broad boxes felt but whilst not being
2580s like demotivating you know it's not
2583s you're not relying off star drops you
2585s know I mean it's a nice addition to get
2587s cool Cosmetics that you might not have
2589s otherwise got

2592s a bit like I think one of the major
2594s challenges in in the star drop design as

3043s that is definitely true but it's a
3045s little bit off balance right now where
3048s the Casual player is getting too little
3050s right so the idea was star drop was we
3054s wanted to move some of the tail rewards
3055s because most casual players don't get
3058s that we want it to move some of the club
3059s League Awards especially at the top rank
3061s because most players don't get that and
3063s kind of move it move it into this really
3065s easy to access daily reward

3068s uh method so uh but even with that said
3072s even if you're a top engaged player with
3075s everything considered uh you should not
3077s be getting less I think perceptionally
3079s it is it feels that's right because when
3081s you you know when you complete the club
3083s League week or or Quest you get this big
3085s chunk and a flight like I feel oh yeah I
3087s got a bunch of stuff right but then you
3089s know when you're claiming star drop and
3090s it kind of trickles in you know 50 gold
3093s 100 token doublers like it doesn't
3095s doesn't feel the same right but I think

3099s if you do the math and you add it up you
3101s know at the end of the season you know
3103s we're we are giving out more
3106s and and I think that is something we
3108s want to continue to do which is kind of
3109s democratizing the rewards in the game
3111s making sure we take care of the Casual

3121s main issue we have is that it's not
3122s visual right you don't see you are

3672s better and or at least try to and that's
3675s not because you know we're like greedy
3676s or something like because that's kind of
3679s one of the key components to try to grow

3690s and try to make you spend you know right
3693s away right like we want you to unlock a
3695s bunch of brawlers you want you to level
3697s up a bunch of brawlers pretty easily if
3699s you want to unlock dozens of brawlers
3701s you can do that take some time but you
3704s can totally do that and Max them out and
3706s that's okay but if you want to unlock
3708s all the Brawlers and Max them all out
3711s especially quickly I think it's a fair
3713s moment to kind of politely ask like hey
3716s you should spend some money if you want
3717s to do that right lightly yeah yeah and
3720s you know and really it's just it's to
3722s support the game and help the Game grow

3803s of the game but we actually did buffed
3806s with the star drops update so even

3810s did a I'll say like I I think we did a
3812s bad job on that because if you think
3814s about the terror rewards we actually
3816s give you a lot of token doublers and you
3819s actually get more tail rewards than
3821s before yeah but then we also nerve tail
3823s rewards so it's like I'm on balanced
3824s like there's less but like it's actually
3826s not that much less yeah than people
3829s perceive it to be
3831s um but yeah coming back to like the
3833s demographation of the economy like tail
3835s rewards is one of the places where only
3837s a really small percentage of the player
3839s base grind to and get you know 100 plus
3842s levels of most not even most like 99 of
3847s players don't do that

4137s are casual like you still need to feel
4139s rewarded for you like your a little
4141s investment right so it's something that
4143s we have to I know compact the the edges
4146s or something like that and I don't think

4154s how much RNG and rewards versus you
4157s having a choice is the right way

4524s the best PV ever brawl stars is a PVP

4538s has to check out of boxes and it's a
4540s different kind of how you play the game

4547s PV events they are not so engaging or

4553s we had didn't feel as new or as fresh or
4556s like a long lasting right

4563s we've we have not given up on the idea
4566s of PVE yeah
4567s so we might still get there the basic

4575s but that design idea to make that work

4644s or at the expense of a pre-existing game

4650s Bot drop weren't well received from the

4654s how difficult is to understand why a new
4656s game a new mode or changes to a new mode
4659s aren't as popular as your expectations

4677s slots are not a limiting factor for us
4679s to test new modes because we always have

4792s love watching us but from a casual our
4795s viewers just find it so frustrating what
4797s are probably the few things you want to
4798s tackle first and what kind of features
4800s you're looking to add I think maybe
4802s Adrian I think it's easier to talk about
4805s things we see as problems rather than
4807s talking about exactly exactly yeah
4809s because the solutions are still very
4810s much Up And discussing them yeah but
4812s maybe let's talk about the problems yeah
4814s I think I think there's a few
4815s fundamental problems with power League
4817s especially for newer players
4819s um I think one of the big ones is uh won
4821s the duration of a public match and also
4824s what we call time to fun so when you
4826s actually get into the match so of course
4828s the draft phase in itself can be
4830s daunting especially if you're a new
4832s player you don't really know why you
4833s should pick where you should pick how
4834s you should pick and so forth what what
4836s are bands what is draft you know there's
4838s this fundamental question that a new
4839s player doesn't necessarily understand so
4842s that's one thing we want to try to
4844s tackle for sure and then also the
4846s duration because I mean the best of
4848s three you know clearly it's sometimes
4849s three times sometimes more times longer
4851s than just playing a Trophy match and
4853s that's a big time investment for a lot
4854s of people like a lot of people might
4856s have three five minutes but maybe not 15
4858s maybe not 10 even so we need to make
4861s sure that those people can still engage
4863s with the feature early on
4865s and I think I think those are some of
4867s the biggest but maybe Jeff you have some
4869s other ones as well for sure yes yeah

4873s unlocking the ability to buy a skin

4879s um so yeah I think I think we want to

4927s even even more replayable and is there
4929s more ways to add depth and fun to it so

4942s regular game mode you're locking the
4944s game many people have their preferred
4946s game mode pre-selected they have their
4949s preferred brawler pre-selected and they
4951s don't care they will just play Motors
4953s and whatever yeah High mode displays

4956s they will just play mortis in whatever
4958s game mode there is and they likely play
4960s showdown of bro ball right so they go to
4963s the game everything is ready to go they
4965s just hit play and in 10 seconds to end

4968s so that is the time to find is extremely
4971s good and I think it's one of the main
4972s draws for brawl yeah actually right but
4975s going from that to
4977s okay here's a random game mode now we
4982s show you the map uh then we have the
4985s roll of roll of the coin
4987s which team starts and then there's this
4990s this the big band phase and then you
4992s have a preparation phase and so the time
4995s until you're in the game
4996s takes time and then you don't know how
4998s many rounds you will play so so that is
5001s just from from going to from 10 seconds

5004s 15 min 10 seconds plus the average play
5007s time which is about let's say 80 90
5009s seconds so in less than two minutes

5437s lower trophies he's really strong but

5442s it depends how fresh it feels as a
5444s brawler I've enjoyed a lot of reworks
5446s that I've had like came about recently
5448s yeah I think in general for reworks like
5450s a new rule yeah we probably focus on
5453s if you if you think of
5455s two dimensions for brothers one is
5457s popularity one is actually how strong
5459s they are right it's not the same
5460s necessarily like more to send it are
5463s great examples they're super popular but
5466s the win rate is below 50 percent which
5469s is yeah it's not great but people still
5472s enjoy playing these products a lot
5474s and so they're having fun with them
5476s right even though you can argue winning
5478s is fun but still and then Desperado we
5481s know matter of fact they're really
5483s strong
5484s also of course there's a bit
5485s self-selection bias because the better
5487s UI supplier the more you understand that
5490s you know a strong broader helps you to
5492s win games think Pam
5495s is still a really strong brawler
5497s she's you know in control mode which is
5499s amazing and Hot Zone
5502s um she's super unpopular I think in Lex
5505s ranking she was the last one two years

5907s new maps get removed after one update

5913s recycled while the community maps are as
5915s high quality as these over the last
5918s couple of years only two of them have
5920s stayed in the game since they released
5921s one from 2022 out in the open
5924s and another one from 2021 flaring
