First let's determine if it's a mod issue.
  • Go to your Steam library
  • Right click on Cities: Skylines and select "Properties"
  • Type in --noWorkshop (exactly like that) in the box at the bottom
  • Close the window to apply

Then start a new game. If the problem is gone - it was mods! If the problem remains, it's the game.

Next steps - how to fix it!

IF IT'S A MOD ISSUE Following a major patch there's usually a brief period of instability while mods are being updated. Please see this thread for updates on what mods are currently broken and waiting for updates: https://steamcommunity.com/app/255710/discussions/0/5219148331330301161/

List of Working / Broken Mods For a list of mods broken, abandoned or incompatible, please see this community list:

A special thank you to AquilaSol and Chamëleon for making and updating this list!

Please be patient with mod creators - they spend their free time making mods and don't always have time right at launch. :)

IF IT'S A GAME ISSUE Our dedicated QA team try to catch all bugs, but with tons of different setups, we unfortunately don't always catch them all. If you encounter any or just need help, please use your support forum:

COMMON ISSUES Running out of memory Easy to spot in the error.log - usually the pagefile will have ~100MB or less free, which is why the game crashes. Setting up a custom size pagefile of 32 GB (32000 MB since pagefiles are measured in MB) usually fixes this. If the pagefile is already set that high, reduce the amount of workshop content.
- Guide to setting up a pagefile

Citrix Workspace The output_log.txt (or player.log on Mac and Linux) looks like this:
Initialize engine version: 5.6.6f2 (6bac21139588) GfxDevice: creating device client; threaded=1 Crash!!! SymInit: Symbol-SearchPath: '.;D:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Cities_Skylines;D:/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Cities_Skylines;C:/WINDOWS;C:/WINDOWS/system32;SRV*C:/websymbols*http://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols;', symOptions: 530 OS-Version: 10.0.17134 () 0x300-0x1 D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities.exe:Cities.exe (00007FF68B9D0000), size: 23814144 (result: 0), SymType: '-exported-', PDB: 'D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities.exe', fileVersion: 5.6.6.44065 - Remove Citrix and reinstall with one of the workarounds found here[forum.paradoxplaza.com].

Simulation errors These happen from time to time. There are 3 mods that can help recover a save from these errors, and all mods can be used at the same time. It’s the Loading Screen Mod, Save Our Saves and Safenets.

Subscribe to all, enable them all, and then go to Options, find the Loading Screen Mod on the left, find Safe Mode and enable all options for Safe Mode.

I bought the new radio stations but they show up in the main menu as un-purchased and I can not play them in game, why?
I also started losing money in my in-game city after this update, I don't use mods that change anything so has something changed by mistake or on purpose that is making something more expensive now?

Thank you

For the radio stations check in your Library in Steam if they're enabled. To do this right-click on the game, select Properties and then the DLC tab. Check to make sure they're enabled. If they do not show up as purchased try restarting Steam.

Does your city keep losing money if you let it run for a bit? Just avoid saving it if continues to be the case, but let it run 5 min to see if it stabilizes.

Loading Screen Mod has disabled itself due to the update.
If this was an old post i could understand, but this is a brand new post clearly aimed at the new update.

The Loading Screen Mod might not load the new content, but if a city is not loading at all from a simulation error, it's still an option. Plus this is only temporary anyways as the mod is almost certainly gonna be updated. So I included it so I don't forget to add it later.

Originally posted by Space Bag: Hey, yes all of my DLC's are enabled including those radio stations, I have even disabled and re-enabled them just in case to see if they start downloading or appear in the game, it still shows up as un-purchased in game and I can not play them (they show up as purchased on steam itself)

I will let the game run for a few minutes to see if the finances stabilize, I will update

Try verifying game files through Steam to have the DLCs show up.

Please report the radio stations not showing up properly here so it can be investigated:

Please see this thread. Modders are working on updating their mods, but it may take a while.

Is there an option to turn off auto updates so this doesn't happen in the future and then we can allow the important mods to be fixed before the game patch? I can only see an option to change how quickly it auto updates.

I know the core game is ok but when you build a city using these mods and then it is rendered unusable (even for a short period) isn't ideal.

No, the only option would be to disable automatic updates through Steam and not start the game until then. And then you may as well use the launch option -noWorkshop to check out the new content while you wait.

I see that the Airports DLC is the new addon but that has to be purchased, is there any other content added?

The free patch applies the changes we've made, which is what the mods need to be updated for. So whether you get the DLC or not you will need to check which mods are broken and which ones are updated.

The Loading Screen Mod blocks new content, which likely also includes some of the free content. But if that's the only mod you use or need to play your modded city, you should be fine and just missing new stuff.
