Like many fathers, I've divorced and separated from my kids. Unlike many fathers, the distance between me and my kids is about 500 kilometers. Hence I get to meet them only during holiday seasons - four or five times annually. We call each other several times a week, but the discussions tend to be a bit repetitive and "boring" in content.

During the winter holiday in February, I realized that both of them were playing Clash Royale. I have quite a long gaming background in PC scene, so I decided to give it a try. The results are amazing: in the beginning, my 10-year old son instructed me. Then after few weeks of active gameplay, I passed him in the rankings and I started to instruct him on strategy, saving elixir and gems etc. We call almost daily and play together in 2v2-battles, we have an active clan and discuss about different cards and their properties. For the first time ever, we now have a common hobby that we can do together, regardless of locations. Fishing and downhill skiing will be the main events, when we get together, but gaming fills now a big void during separation.

In the media, we can see a lot of articles about the negative aspects of gaming. My experiences are positive and wanted to share this with you.
