This better be a f**king sick update bro all of drew’s shit with “weekly update news videos” “i’ll write it after i walk my dog” looking ass it’s been weeks and we got 1 video

this kind of attitude is one of the reasons why i've explained before that it is a good idea never to share anything beforehand - it will always cause toxic reactions like this.

i said our original plan in march was to do a bunch of update videos. this was a plan, nothing concrete. and then that plan changed due to delays.

then i say i'm writing a blog post (after someone asked if it will be released on friday, saturday or sunday) and that's apparently bad as well.

you guys want more communication and when more communication is given it leads to this sort of toxicity which bums me out...

to make something constructive out of this comment - what communication do you want to see?

for example, would you rather i didn't post anything until the blog post came out etc? or not even announce that there will be a blog post instead of a video. it will help me in the long run with communication. thanks

First of all, why did you announce the update over a month before it actually releases? Secondly, the blog post is a cool idea, would have been better if you announced that the plans have changed and you're doing blog post instead of video series. Thirdly, people are frusturated since it's taking so long until the update gets released. Nobody likes to hear "yeah we are going to do that soon ™ " after all this delaying. (Try to be more specific)

I don't know if this reply makes sense at all, just release the blog post and people will calm down.

  1. people wanted information on the update and were getting extremely frustrated with lack of communication. i would have preferred to have waited until august to announce it but that would have probably been a bad move overall, so i went with what the community wanted.
  2. i mentioned it in some comments on here & twitter, but it didn't really need a big announcement. there will still be videos coming so it's still happening
  3. i can't help people being frustrated, but the feedback i received was that they would rather have some information rather than none, which is what lead to the update reveal at the start of july. it is not possible to please everyone but i think the right call was releasing some information rather than staying silent

thank you for taking the time to ask these questions!

Okay drew, sorry for the swearing. I know it’s not like you can snap your fingers and make a drop a new update info vid. It just feels like you set multiple dates and times for when more information was dropping and they all got delayed.

The reason i wrote that comment is because i was annoyed for the reason i just mentioned and i didn’t expect you to see it at all. I hope i didn’t discourage you from communication because it really was just something i wrote exactly what i was thinking and it’s easy to get salty at someone with which you have no direct communication.

The annoyance comes from the fact that the wait for an update has been very long and then there are even more delays with the update’s information videos. I guess you probably tweeted about the delays beforehand, but i don’t have twitter and for people like me it just seemed like we were told “update videos coming weekly” and then no update videos dropped.

I have been playing this game for over 3 years solid, and it’s the only video game i play at all. I wrote that comment, but tbh even if the update wasn’t very good i would almost definitely continue to play. Not saying it won’t be good - my point is that i really appreciate what you guys have created and im saying that it would still be a great, competitive game anyway without this update in the first place.

Now if you see this, i do have one question: Every season there are a few emotes for challenges like the sipping pekka emote or the scuba mask skeleton emote (i’m pretty sure one of those came from the pass and not a challenge but i don’t remember which). Why not make an emote for 20 wins? i think it raises incentive for completing the challenge. I wish i could flex my 20 wins

hey, thanks for the reply and the explanation - very mature and cool of you! i appreciate it.

i get the annoyance and yes i think its hard for all information to be shared across all platforms so i understand if you missed it, that's some good feedback thanks.

to answer your question - we never planned to have an emote or a badge for this 20 win challenge and were hoping that instead, the tournament qualification would act as this chase prize/incentive for a lot of players who could achieve 20 wins. we also made the rewards better than most challenges (think it's something like $100 value) to make it a bit sweeter for those who wanted to get something out of it.

i do totally understand the emote/badge thing but i believe it was worth a try anyways to see how it performs as a tournament qualifier. at least next time we know!
