Hello Reddit!

A little update on what we’ve been up to…


We’ve been working our way through the next update and it's shaping up to be one of our favorites.

Here’s just a few of the things we are working on:

A New Card

Changes to Crown Chests

A New Arena

...and a whole lot more!

More info will be coming out over the next couple of weeks to make sure that all Clash Royale players are aware of what’s coming! Keep an eye on our social channels.


This weekend members of the dev team (myself, Daria, Seth) will be hanging at DreamHack Summer in Sweden, where Clash Royale will be part of the new DreamHack Mobile Series Tournament. Feel free to come say hey if you see us!

We are really proud to be represented there alongside a bunch of other great games. Exciting times. The tournament will also be streamed on Twitch.

this won’t be happening - we will be keeping the same amount of arenas that there are atm!

these aren’t the only things that are changing, don’t worry. there is a whole lot more to this update that we will be revealing over the next couple of weeks!

yes, there are no plans on changing this in the next update

some things to list are:

  • donations
    • when requesting the card picture can be pressed to also donate, but what's the point of this if i should just be pressing the donate button to donate?
      • often times i will accidentally tap the card picture especially when navigating chat only to donate a card i was not planning to. could you remove this in a future update?
  • replays
    • replays are a great way to improve and spectate in all sorts of competitive games (especially now that clash royale has gotten competitive), replays are also complained about in various games to not have a great ui.
      • watching a replay in clash royale has become quite normal and is nice to watch replays in royale but if you want to take note of something or rewatch a part, you have to rewatch the whole replay rather than rewinding. could you add a rewind feature to replays?
  • spectating
    • spectating helps people just like a replay but in live action, this also means getting an advantage if you have viewers on your side at home. people often report elixir tracking recently as you guys had once removed it and also successfully blocked card tracking through visuals forcing players to actually commit to learning how to track the opponents or remember their own card cycle, as well as put a nice card viewer to show what the players have used so far.
      • now that elixir leaking has been added as a new visual, you re-added the old elixir bar but again it could be used as an advantage, to prevent this though you could still keep the elixir bar of the person you are watching, but remove the option to see the opponent's elixir bar and still keep the elixir leaked showing as that is not a real advantage except for knowing they have a full elixir bar (which is a lot less of an advantage than knowing exactly what elixir they are at or having none at all)
  • war
    • war has been a recent controversy as its becoming more and more of a necessity for players to grow their collection without spending challenges or risking trophies on ladder. many have been reporting issues with players specifically participating in war and i have seen recent solutions as forcing 3 collection day battles to enter war, but i believe that is self-explanatory. i specifically would like to improve upon how battles are chosen on collection day, the battles are random but people prefer certain things and if those players will wait to play what they want, what is the reasoning behind the random selection?
      • so to improve upon this, can you just put each mode up permanently and when ever they are finished, they instantly regenerate for the next player to try out. this leads to people enjoying clan war more as they can choose what game mode they want without having to wait or miss out, it also doesn't change anything in giving players an extreme advantage, just make collection day more enjoyable to play (as well as provide a semi-improvement to people not fulfilling 3 collection day battles).
  • decks
    • earlier this year a few new sorting options have been added and even put first upon opening new challenges that require creating your own deck.
      • with this, would it ever be possible to just add a search mechanic or a way for players to create their own sorting options and save them similar to deck slots?
  • challenges
    • often it is hard to find players in clans to practice or find friends willing to keep up with clash royale. classics are also 10 gems and occasionally free challenges are put up, and theres tournaments which are free but often random and a pain to play as well as caters to deck sniping.
      • would it ever be possible to have a permanent free practice mode and you don't have to add rewards as its just for practicing. you could even add a card preference search system, players can pick a certain number of cards for the system to find so you can learn certain match ups without having to find players in a clan or struggle on ladder or challenges. this will also encourage more people to play clash royale as well as pick it up again, it gives players hope at being better at something or becoming good at something. the practice mode does not have to have a format like challenges or tournaments, so losses and requirements do not matter since there are no rewards needed to be gained. it would be like a ladder with a search system specifically for player growth or pass time and nothing else.
  • clans
    • clan chat gets quite congested with messages, trading, donations, emotes, sharing things, war stuff etc. and as stated before things like card pictures donating cards without pressing the donate button is quite annoying, especially if you do not plan to donate things you are saving up. looking for older trades or requests that haven't been fulfilled yet was solved by adding a button that showed how many are above and could be pressed to instantly navigate towards them, and new messages could be reviewed by pressing an arrow to go to the beginning.
      • would it ever be possible to added a regular scroll bar feature on the right side so you can navigate chat manually as well if your not specifically looking for donations, trades, or new messages?
  • profiles
    • i believe in an old Q&A you mentioned how you guys did not want to mention draws at all because it could confuse players, but draws are self-explanatory and players know how they work. it has become a controversial topic for climbing ladder and staying to win to in a challenge by pro players, they even mention rather than trying to win or just out right losing an unfair match-up to completely force a draw.
      • with this said it has been shown that pros have a strong stance on draws, could you guys add the option to view how many draws a player has on their profile? this would show players what top performing/experienced players do in top ladder or in challenges, do they draw a lot, draw less, have more draws than losses etc. it could improve on how players can play certain match-ups rather than just straight up losing or quitting the game.

i currently cannot remember off the top of my head if i had anything else to list, but i do have a question, will you guys ever rotate some of the rewards on trophy road below 4k, such as the emotes?

thank you for taking your time to read this if you did and thank you in advance if you happen to respond and possibly take your guys time to add these things in to the game. the game has a ton of potential to be one of the top games and top competitive games in the world right now, and with improvements like these apart from proper balancing, it could definitely get there and i wonder how the game will be in the future, it has gotten very far from what it once was.

i won't be able to answer all of your points here but wanted to let you know that in the next update we will be including a whole bunch of balance changes, including a complete melee range balancing that affects a lot of cards with melee attacks!
