Drew, dude. You’re a personable dude, we like you, but we hate silence. Can we please get some communication?

i posted this a few hours before you made this post, but got it got buried so you may not have seen it:

"the post i made here outlines what we are hoping to address in the next update.

when i have more info that i can share, i will make an announcement. i don't have anything more than that to add at the moment"

hope that answers your question u/13Jams

To easy Drew after such a terrible update. At least: WHEN will you give more info? I really think the community deserves some transparant communication.

i can't put a timeline on when i will be able to give more info, sorry.

when there is info to share rest assured i will share it!

Offcourse you will give us info when you can share it, that's logic :)

Working in IT as a 10+ years product owner / product manager I have problems understanding:

  • You haven't told us what the next month/update will bring. Or at least when you give that info.
  • Provide us with a ranking of the main current issues. What will be fixed first? What has less priority? Working with scrum should allow the team to have a backlog with the highest prioritys ready by now.
  • These backlog items should give some indication when you can and will fix. Won't hassle on this point, but I do like to see your priority list.

So can you at least explain the first 2 bullits?

just because we have the plans/roadmap internally doesn't mean we need to reveal them publicly. there seems to be an incorrect expectation that we should be public with everything just because we have it organised internally.

as a product manager of 10 years you can understand that plans change and that sharing a daily update of everything to a large pubic audience is not the best for setting expectations!

as an example that doesn't use clash royale, i've been excited for the PS5 release for a long time and although I am sure they have known all of the details for a year now, i was not expecting them to release anything until they were ready to (which they now have - less than 2 months before launch of their physical product which has been in development for X amount of years).

EDIT: people are taking the example of a ps5 above and using it as a direct comparison to clash royale. the example doesn't matter, it can be anything, a mobile game, a console, the latest movie, a new album release. the point is that the creators of these reveal information when they can/want to reveal it.

it is not realistic to expect a company to release info just because they have it internally.

---

  • You haven't told us what the next month/update will bring. Or at least when you give that info.

as said above, i will share this when i want to. i also made a post that i linked above here that details what we are looking at.

  • Provide us with a ranking of the main current issues. What will be fixed first? What has less priority? Working with scrum should allow the team to have a backlog with the highest prioritys ready by now.

i don't know why this needs to be public information until i am confident and happy to share this info. again, the current plan is in the post i shared here

  • These backlog items should give some indication when you can and will fix. Won't hassle on this point, but I do like to see your priority list.

again, this is coming from your expectation that everything should be pubic.

i know it's hard to wait when you're excited or looking forward to an update, but until i reveal more info you'l have to wait a bit more.

Drew what happened to more frequent smaller releases rather then one BIG update after a long time?

The clan UI changes to me (as a Software Engineer with 9yrs exp :) ) seems like a relatively easy task to complete within a few weeks? Would be good to get a small update just with this to see small frequent progression.

Drew what happened to more frequent smaller releases rather then one BIG update after a long time?

that is still the plan... it hasn't changed. this means less 1 update every 9 months and more 1 update every 3 months.

for example, releasing an update that only includes UI changes would not be worth the development time that it takes to create the update version and launch the app on all stores.

Hey Drew! Thanks for the response! I just looked at your profile, and see that you respond to a fair amount of posts recently , cool. But my point of this post is less about getting juicy game updates and leaks or info, as much as just wanting general communication, namely in the form of posts.

When ever you make a post, I enjoy reading them, I enjoy just seeing what’s going on more or less. Personally, if I could make a wish and it come true (specifically about this game), I would wish that we could have a sort of timeline that we can expect a “check up” post. A post where the goal is to just build our relationship, as community and community manager. Ask dumb questions about the game, tell a story about something funny that happened in the office, talk about that nagging idea in the back of your head about the game. Just something consistent. Thanks Drew! I hope I’m wrong about deleting the game, and will come back!

thanks for the response.

i personally feel that until we get an update out, the sort of posts that you mention will not do anything positive for the community (you can already see the responses to my recent comments in my profile).

when the update is out and we have a better in-game situation then i think reactions will be better to these sort of discussions on this sub. i do like those ideas though! just isn't the right time for them i feel.

So because the community is upset we get less communication? Seems like a good idea

that's not what i said, i just don't think it's cool to act like everything is ok and post things that will be seen by the sub as sidestepping the issues.

better to stay quiet than be like "hey guys ask me questions that are NOT to do with clan wars 2 or when the next update is coming as i won't answer them". seems to me like that would not go down well

this is actually a good response, don’t know why it’s getting downvoted. Just look at valve corporation, they stopped releasing info about their games because it was starting to give their developers anxiety and depression because they could no longer top the expectations. It’s a good idea to stay silent until you’re absolutely 100% sure you’re ready to announce things.

i appreciate you posting this. thanks for understanding!
