Greetings Call of Duty: Mobile community, we are back with another community update and our last of Season 8: 2nd Anniversary! It has been a fantastic season full new content, Blackout, and of course in-game events, like the unique Counterattack event that tasked you with collecting NPCs to send on missions or the silly but fun event that had you building a cake and unlocking letters.
We’ve also had a lot going on outside of the game, like celebratory giveaways in various community areas or the truly massive Battle Royale Worlds streaming event that took place last weekend. That event brought in creators and pros from all over the world to fight it out in a giant Battle Royale competition. If you missed any of that action, then we have a nice winner’s recap for you here:
With 2nd Anniversary we’ve been able to create many different unique events and videos for you all, whether it is the beloved Ghost Lofi video, various Blackout focused cinematics, competitive events like BR Worlds, or even just silly videos like Nikto vs Nikto. However, one other video we wanted to call out was our developer diary! We’ve never done anything like it before and if there is appetite we’ll do more in the future. Check it out below!
2nd Anniversary Developer Diary
For the rest of this update today we have some first looks at Season 9 content and then a quick round-up of the last of Season 8! We are going to try to keep this one relatively brief since it isn’t long now until we are ready to launch Season 9, which will of course come with another info-filled community update. For now, let’s start off the rest of the update and with an event calendar.
Here is a quick look at all of the newest events and others launching throughout the week:
- 10/01 – 10/20 ~ Sweet Celebration
- 10/01 – 10/20 ~ Anniversary Puzzle
- 10/01 – 10/20 ~ Global Weapon Exchange
- 10/15 – 10/20 ~ Payout S&D
- 10/15 – 10/20 ~ Season’s End Event
- 10/18 – 10/20 ~ Attack of the Undead 20
- 10/18 – 10/20 ~ Hardcore Collection
*All Dates UTC
If it isn’t clear, almost everything from Season 8 is ending in just under a week and that means you should get out there and complete all related events now! Do you still need to collect the Global Weapon Exchange weapon blueprint? Better jump into various Seasonal Challenges or the easily acquirable 3 badges you can get for reading the comics. Recap of those Seasonal Challenges below, but first let’s focus on something new!
Payout S&D
This new version of Search & Destroy has arrived and in this mode you’ll be able to customize your kit each round. Each round you’ll earn money based on both your own performance and the team, which you then use to purchase weapons and equipment at the start of each round. Be careful though, you’ll only have a short while to purchase equipment before the round begins.
Halloween Standoff
The classic Multiplayer map Halloween Standoff will return in Season 9! This fan-favorite map has always been synonymous with the Halloween season for Call of Duty: Mobile and we are always excited to bring it back to you all each year. You’ll be able to enjoy some new content on this map, but we’ll talk about that next week once the new season launches. For now, here is a new flythrough video with some nice easter eggs in there if you watch until the end 😉.
Hovec Sawmill
A brand-new Multiplayer map is coming to Call of Duty: Mobile next season and it is the abandoned rural village that is Hovec Sawmill! This map comes on over from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and features multiple open village areas filled with flanking opportunities, indoor combat areas, and a lovely crumbling tower overlooking the area. Oh also, it is a night map!! Get your first look in this new flythrough and get ready to play it in Season 9.
Seasonal Challenges Roundup
There have been five Seasonal Challenges to tackle this time around and they are all available for a few days longer. Through these challenges you can significantly boost your Battle Pass levels with 50,000+ Battle Pass XP, earn a brand-new weapon (the M13), get anniversary badges to complete the Global Weapon Exchange, or grab many different blueprints like the Epic As Val – Polinator. Here is a recap on some of the best challenges to come to 2nd Anniversary!
Deadly Weaponry
This seven-part seasonal challenge tasks you with showing your proficiency with assault rifles! Play MP matches, get kills with ARs, and use specific rifles like the AK-47 to tackle fairly straight forward challenges. For doing all of those tasks, you can earn up to 16,000 Battle Pass XP and the following:
- (Uncommon) Knife – Bullet Metal
- (Uncommon) LK24 – Bullet Metal
- (Uncommon) Holger 26 – Bullet Metal
- (Rare) Frame – Tourmaline Alloy
- New Functional Weapon – M13
Thunderclapped
This six-part seasonal challenge tasks you with using scorestreaks to excel in Multiplayer matches. Start it off by just earning 1200 points for Scorestreak and then progress to more difficult tasks like specifically using the new Lightning Stroke Scorestreak. Complete to the challenges and you’ll earn up to 14,000 Battle Pass XP and the following rewards:
- (Uncommon) SMRS – Bullet Metal
- (Uncommon) Pharo – Bullet Metal
- (Rare) Charm – Zeppelin
- (Rare) Razorback – Shuttle
- Anniversary Badges
Monster Shotty
This seven-part seasonal challenge is focused entirely on showing you’re a master of shotguns! These tasks have you using a variety of different weapons, including the new R9-0, and with specific requirements for perks and attachments. Since this challenge is a bit tougher than the previous, the rewards are also more valuable – complete all of the tasks to earn up to 16,000 Battle Pass XP and the following rewards:
- (Rare) Calling Card – Under Control
- (Rare) Striker – Shuttle
- (Epic) AS Val – Pollinator
- Credits, Weapon XP, Anniversary Badges
There will be plenty of more challenges coming next season and with another new functional weapon to unlock through those events. Keep an eye out for that and best of luck finishing up these S8 events!
Dark Nitko Returns
This week we’ve had our first ever Legendary Draw Redux and with our first legendary operator - Dark Nikto! This menacing and deadly operator comes with a variety of his own unique cosmetics, like a kill counter on his wrist and his own parachute. He set the way for legendary operators and you can now snag him in the Dark Side Redux Draw in-game! We hope this answers the many questions we see every season about if we will ever bring back Mythic or Legendary Operators.
Feedback & Bug Reports
In our last major community update we addressed about a dozen different bugs we were either looking into or had already worked on, but there are still others that have cropped up since then and we’ll address those here. However, please refer to that previous community update to see which ones we covered there.
This time around, we are going to address both feedback and bug reports together, because in one particular case this week it wasn’t clear if the issue was a bug or just feedback. Let’s jump in!
- Movement Changes, there were some changes with movement (related to jumping) and it wasn’t clear if these were intended or a bug, but we’ve adjusted movement again to help address this. Thanks to everyone who clearly called this out and with great examples!
- Undead Siege, just a quick reminder that Undead Siege returns in Season 9 (next season)! We will have more details about what’s new or what’s changed in the next update, but for now we’ll say there are some new rewards to earn and new challenging zombie behavior to conquer.
- BR Changes, we just wanted to say thank you to those who have spent any amount of time sharing their feedback about our recent and significant BR changes, whether that is Blackout or changes to mechanics. The team is keeping a close eye on those, just like with any significant changes, and will likely make more updates in the future based on the responses.
- Counterattack Charm, we had an issue where instead of the correct charm reward being given out a different one was sent instead. We are working on some solutions for this and will be able to help players with this very soon. Hang tight a little bit longer!
- Clown Class in BR getting stuck, there is a rare issue of player’s being unable to use weapons or interact with many things in BR. We’ve been looking into this one for a while now and without a lot of success (unfortunately), so if you are seeing this issue please reach out and report it!
- General Lag related issues, we’ve noticed and been working on some general issues with lag in Season 8! It is always hard to discuss these because lag is such a general issue that every single Multiplayer based game deals with that few teams can rarely ever say “we fixed lag!!” but we have made many strides to improve this throughout CODM’s lifespan and we will continue to do so. Specifically, we are investigating new issues that have cropped up since S8.
- Mini Tank - Countdown, speaking of the ultimate “is it really a bug question” – we have this incredibly tiny and adorable Tank – Countdown currently in the Dark Side Draw. Does it make us want to secretly make a mode all about fighting with miniature tanks…yes, yes it does! But it is also a bug and we will probably bring the tank back to full size at some point haha.
The cutest little tank in town

Final Notes
To close out this community update we would like to share just one more special video. As you may have noticed, we spend a lot of time trying to share about anything we do that is related to music or behind the scenes because we always see a massively positive response from you all about this type of video content.
Ever since we first did a Behind the Scenes Music Video in Season 6: Once Upon a Time in Rust, we’ve seen that overwhelmingly positive response and we are always striving to share more on that front. With that said, here is a new behind the scenes video featuring composers Nicholas Steinbach and Daniel Tauber, Orchestrator & Producer Daryl Griffith, Assistant Orchestrator James Yan, Music Editor Wes Hicks, and of course a full orchestra! Enjoy and thanks for supporting these.
2nd Anniversary Theme Music - Behind The Scenes
Next week we’ll be back with Season 9 release community update full of information on the new maps, new weapons, events, and of course a variety of things related to Halloween! We can’t wait to dive into all of that and to celebrate that beloved holiday with you all. We’ll see you then and thank you all for celebrating our 2nd Anniversary with us!
