Battle Royale
When we returned with our first season of 2021, Season 1 – New Order, we decided to take a new approach to Battle Royale by offering modes every single week. In S1 that primary focused around Blitz, the new mode that season, while with Season 2 have we another new mode on the way with Tank Battle! That mode isn’t launching right now, but here is the schedule for BR for the season:
As many of you have noticed, yes Alcatraz is no longer active 24/7. If you’ve been in the community for a while you likely understand the reason – with any mode or map the permanency of that solely relies on how much it is being played and how generally positive the reception of it is. While there is plenty of positive reception about Alcatraz (it has been in the game 24/7 for over 4 months now), we no longer wish to keep it constantly active and are bringing it back to the limited time mode rotation.
However, that doesn’t mean it is permanently delegated to this so if you want it come back as a permanent or long-term mode please just play it extensively when it returns on April 9th (UTC). Grab your friends, grab your clan, bring your dog, and get them all to play Alcatraz throughout that week!
For now, let’s quickly talk about the newest BR Mode – Tank Battle. This new mode coming next week is unlike anything we’ve had before in the game. We don’t want to spoil all of the details just yet, we’ll have a video do that for us later 😉, but as the name implies tank warfare is the focus and there are some new mechanics to help it feel competitive, fresh, and unique.
Lastly, while this isn’t an exciting new mode or a tank we do have some more vehicle related news in this update – the Truck has arrived! This vehicle is sturdy, holds up to 6 players, offers plenty of protection, and has a very unique cargo bed. You can use BR Class Skills inside of this cargo bed, players can fire or move around in this open space, and you can even snag air drops if you are lucky or skilled enough to get that truck bed lined up. Test out that new vehicle in Battle Royale now!
Seasonal Challenges
We are starting this season off with two new challenges available to complete and in an unusual fashion for the beginning of the season, we have an epic weapon blueprint (the KN-44 – Golden Talon) available in one of these new challenges. We’ll have more launching throughout the season though, like the Perk Prodigy challenge bringing the new Recon perk or the Elite Marksmen challenge with the SP-208 sniper rifle. Keep an eye out for news on those and take a look below at the two challenges launching today!
Rifle Steamroller
This seven-part Seasonal Challenge is exactly as straight forward as the name implies! Use assault rifles, use them well, and use specific rifles (like the new AS VAL) to complete all of these tasks. This one isn’t specific to MP or BR and provides a variety of rewards including 25,000 Battle Pass XP! Here are some of the reward highlights:
- (Uncommon) Combat Axe – Ripped Camo
- (Uncommon) Backpack – Ripped Camo
- (Rare) Charm - First Aid
- (Epic) KN-44 – Golden Talon
Pyrotechnics
The five-part Seasonal Challenge is all about using scorestreaks in Multiplayer! All of the scrorestreaks you are tasked to dominate matches with are either default ones or available through the credit store except for the Napalm scorestreak available in the S2 free Battle Pass. Complete all of these task and you’ll earn 17,000 Battle Pass XP and the following rewards:
- (Uncommon) MW11 - Ripped Camo
- Purple Weapon XP Cards (10)
- (Rare) Spray – Save Us
- (Rare) Chopper – Imprint
New Functional Weapons
This time last year we had just launched Season 4: Disavowed (2020) and back then we occasionally were able to release new weapons through lucky draws, crates, or other means. However, we heard the feedback for more ways to earn new weapons, at least the base versions, and adjusted our releases to accommodate that idea of balance.
For nearly a year now we’ve kept that up, with ways to earn new weapons every season through the Battle Pass and a Seasonal Challenge and multiple ways to acquire Epic or Legendary blueprint versions through Lucky Draws or the Premium BP. Thank you for supporting this approach and for making it clear that this fair & balanced approach is far better than the original way. We continue that now with Season 2: Day of Reckoning by introducing the AS VAL and SP-R 208!
The AS Val is a brand-new fast firing assault rifle that is adaptable to many situations and ranges. However, its unique stats make it an accurate and precise rifle that rewards speed and quick reactions. You can snag it at Tier 14 in the Free Battle Pass or the epic blueprint at Tier 50 in the Premium Battle Pass. Check it out in action:

The other new weapon this season is the SP-R 208! This bolt-action sniper rifle from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) packs a punch and offers a wide variety of unique ammo types and attachments. You’ll be able to utilize different ammo types to help make the weapon suited for different situations. For example, equip the .338 bullets in BR to help punch through armor and increase headshot damage.
You’ll be able to find this one later in March in the Elite Marksmen Seasonal Challenge. Keep an eye out for news on that as we get closer to the release!
Ranked Series 1
Just like with our season names for 2021, we are also resetting the numbers of our Ranked Series to have them be tied to each year. As per usual, this new Ranked Series releasing means that your current BR/MP rank has been reset down a few pegs. This is to help calibrate rank balance, especially when we make new changes to the system or how scoring for certain ranks works, like we did in this update.
Each Ranked Series lasts about two seasons and this one comes alongside some new rewards to snag! Among other rewards, you can grab Kreuger - Ruptured Steel in Battle Royale and the QXR - Roaring Steel in Multiplayer. Jump in now, start climbing the ranks, and make sure to let us know what you think of any new changes to the Ranked Mode maps, modes, or balance!
New Multiplayer Maps
This season we are clearly all about Call of Duty: Modern (2019) 😉 since these two new Multiplayer maps are also coming over from that title! Both of these new maps are generally applicable to many different modes and map sizes, but they are not both available right at the start of the season. We are starting it off with Shoot House and you’ll be able to try out the new version of Shipment later in March. Read on for all map details and info related events running now!
Shoot House
This popular and fast paced three-lane map is a fan-favorite for a reason, it offers a fantastic mixture of cover, ambush options, and opportunities to flank or outmaneuver your enemies. This training yard is littered with burnt out cars, open buildings and shacks, and light cover that can often be shot through with weapons with high penetration.
This map is available now through the Shoot House 24/7 playlist, but you can also earn some rewards while playing with the new Quick Trigger event! To complete all eight event tasks you’ll just need to play the map, kill enemies, and win matches. Do all of that and you’ll snag some rewards, including the KRM 262 – Crisis and Frame – Wirey. For tips, tactics, and more details about how to dominate on this map head on over to the Map Snapshot Blog!
Shipment
If like chaotic environments where the action never stops, the enemy is never far from sight, and you can complete any kill-based challenges in the blink of an eye, then Shipment is your map! Previously, we had the Call of Duty: WWII version of this map and now we’ve updated to the sleek cargo yards of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. You’ll be able to try this one out yourself mid-March when it launches with its own playlist and related event.
Urbanite Draw
The first draw of the season is launching tomorrow on March 12th at 4 pm (PT) and it is bringing back a new iteration of one of the greatest of all time – Urban Tracker! With the Urbanite Draw we are starting off Season 2 strong with Urban Tracker – Exile and energy infused GKS – Wanderer. Those two top items will be accompanied by the Vagabond series of weapon and item camos, and more! Check it all out in action and try it out yourself tomorrow:

Draws & Duplicates
Ever since we started doing Redux Lucky Draws we’ve seen plenty of feedback asking us to change the way duplicates work in draws. Getting credits for an Epic operator skin or weapon is not ideal, so as of this update we’ve changed the system to refund CP spent of a duplicate. Straight forward and you still get duplicate credits as an extra bonus 😉
Note - This system only applies to lucky draws released from here (S2 or later)
Credit Store Update
The new season is here and that always means a new credit store up too! This time around we have a mixture of weapons, operators, perks, and items. Now you can snag Captain – BDU, Perk Shrapnel, HBRa3 – Evergreen, and more! Check it out in the Credit Store tab.
Support Options

If for some reason you haven’t already updated your game then hopefully this post makes it clear why you should do so now in order to check out all of the new Season 2 content and updates.
