Link to the original announcement: https://forums.funcom.com/t/psa-removal-of-illegal-structures-in-upcoming-patch/75447

Hey everybody,

Our team has been working on a fix to address a critical issue concerning overlapping building pieces that could cause performance and stability problems. We’ve been evaluating options and possible alternatives for the past couple of weeks since this fix can be aggressive to buildings already in place. However, due to the severity of this problem we’ve decided to go ahead with the original fix.

Once this patch hits live, on June 18th 2019, on all official PC servers, any overlapping building pieces that have been built (building pieces occupying the same space) will be removed from all official servers, for instance fence foundations and ceilings.

If you don’t understand what the above means, you probably shouldn’t worry about it. If you feel like this might affect your constructions, we’re issuing this announcement FIVE days in advance so you can take appropriate actions to correct your structures before the patch hits live. Once that happens, it is highly likely that if your base relies on the structure formations above mentioned it will suffer stability issues and parts of it can crumble.

This patch will be released ON PC, TUESDAY 18th 2019, and it will affect ALL OFFICIAL SERVERS. Consoles will receive this patch at a later date, still to be confirmed.

We understand the gravity of the consequences of this fix and we’ve evaluated other less destructive solutions, but we agreed that only this way we can correctly fix this issue. This is why we’re giving you a weekend of preparation before we release this patch.

Thanks for your feedback and support, and apologies for any frustration this fix can cause.

Will the overlapping pieces be removed, or will the entire build id be removed? Further, if there's a sandstone ceiling that didn't upgrade properly to tier 3, will the sandstone ceiling be removed or will both pieces be removed?

The overlapping pieces will be removed. Then the server will calculate stability and if those removed pieces were essential for the stability, they'll crumble as well.

Thanks for your continouus support of the game! BUT....

"Overlapping" can also mean two foundations that look like a cross and perhaps (and perhaps not) it also means two parallel foundations in the distance of half a foundation square.

This can be achieved easily without any tricks (not like the "foundation stacking method" where you can put like 9 or more foundations in the area of one square foundation).

The text in the announcement does not clarify if this is considered "illegal" now. It´s embarrassing to be left in uncertainty this way :(

Hey there, We've updated our announcement with extra clarification and some important info. It's pinned in the main page :)

" Once this patch hits live, on June 18th 2019, on all official PC servers, any overlapping building pieces that have been built (building pieces occupying the same space) will be removed from all official servers, for instance fence foundations and ceilings. "

This sentence reminds me of someone saying "All you have to do is......" to an audience that is relatively ignorant of what are the precise definitions of the key words. Conan Exiles is a computer program and within that universe definitions have very narrow meanings. The authors of those definitions need to spell them out and illustrate them when communicating to the player base changes of potential destruction.

It's obvious from all the posts on various forums that 'overlapping' and 'building pieces' are being interpreted by the readers in a lot of different ways. The actual effects of the building piece removal is also vague. Developer responses seem to create more questions than understanding.

Something along the lines of a video 'tutorial' that showed what is or isn't within the range of the update would have done much to quell the anxiety running around the player base. With the problem being removed June 18 it's not like it would be exploit training.

The comment that if you don't know what the exploits are then you "probably shouldn't worry" is the exact opposite of the sentiment I'd expect to be given to the non-exploiting player base. Especially given the lack of clarity noted in the paragraph above.

I really like this game and appreciate the creativity and skill needed to bring it to where it is today. I also am all in for removal of exploits, performance issues and server crashing. However, this particular way of communicating it seems to have a big helping of 'not helping'.

Now I'll shutup and go play some CE.

Hey there, we've released an update to our announcement with clearer wording for those that had some doubts about what would be affected and how. ;)

Here is my issue. Short of two pieces occupying EXACTLY the same space, how were we supposed to know that they were "illegal?" This is kinda BS. Let's take for example double-walling fence foundations. This is where you have double fence foundations on the north, south, east, and west of a foundation including a double walled + in the middle. No pieces perfectly overlap another (i.e. fill the exact same space as another piece). When I saw this technique, all I could think was, "Wow, Funcom is amazing for allowing us to create such intricate designs!" The tradeoff is that it takes FAR more materials and time to build these structures. To me, this was a feature, not an exploit. Now all of the sudden, Funcom is calling it "illegal" and as such, "exploitive." It took me a week and tens of thousands of steel reinforcements to redesign my t3 base in this style recently and now, just as i'm finished...poof. Would I have started had I known I was building something illegal? Of course not.

Hey there,

We've released an update to our announcement along with some important details. It's pinned :)
