An unhealthy caveat of the survival game genre's is its official servers. It makes people quit and refund these games. Not only are the servers generally low tier, but the key factor is lack of administration.

Ignorance would lead us to believe that administration is a bad thing, and will always lead to a negative outcome. While this is true most of the time, and even the most stalwart of admin teams STILL abuse their power from time to time, its still MILES better than none at all.

Lets look at it from this perspective. If you don't have an active, dedicated admin team, you're giving admin powers to the exploiters, cheaters, and trolls. Essentially, the degenerates become admins as they control the fate of everyone on the server.

Virtually every survived historical title is run entirely on community servers. Mount and blade, the older battlefield titles, Dont starve together, Rust.

Its incredibly unhealthy that such a large portion of the player base on CE is on official servers, likely due to a population vacuum. So i ask Funcom, how many new players who start on officials, quit on officials?

I don’t agree administration is miles better. I like when no individual has super powers.

When the problem is exploits, I think the solution is fixing them. If a developer does not do that then they are killing their own game.

We're actively working on exploits with pretty much every patch we put out, but players are crafty and will often find new and interesting ways to replicate the results of old exploits
