This is a rather long read and I'll put a tldr at the bottom if you want to skip the large chuck of text but I feel that you'll miss out on my main points if you do skip ahead.

This isn't a bug or anything, it's just something I feel needs improving to make Dauntless so much better. When I first started playing the most interesting thing in the game to me was the weapons and mechanics. I know they're simple but I just had an absurd amount of fun spending time with them and learning them. The hunt pass existed but wasn't a large part of the game like it is now, it was something to be completed while just enjoying the game. And that, I feel, is the issue. Dauntless is now focused on what should be the extras of a game. Instead of focusing upon the core elements of the game (mechanics, purpose, and all that sorta stuff), Dauntless is now centered upon cosmetics. Level the hunt pass for cosmetics, complete all the seasonal stuff and events for cosmetics. Reach level 25 in the escalations for, you got it, cosmetics. Now focusing on cosmetics isn't necessarily a bad thing for all games. Some of my favourite games are based solely around cosmetics and I don't mind that. I don't feel that it works for Dauntless however. In games like Sea of Thieves or Rocket League the player is constantly put into new situations. Even when you are put into a situation you've seen multiple times before you know it's either only going to last a few seconds or you've put yourself there on purpose. Since Dauntless only has a small set of attacks for all it's behemoths it can feel incredibly repetitive especially since the player does it not necessarily because they want to but because they really want the cosmetics before they disappear. There are several fixes to this I'm sure (none of which would be short or easy), but I feel they are essential. I'm not going to talk about several changes that the devs have made because that really seems to cause disputes among you the players. I feel that the devs are doing a good job and that the game is heading in the right direction, the game just needs something to make you want to play it for the game that it is instead of for cosmetics. That's what I find allows a game to grow and flourish. Think about all your favourite games, what exactly makes you want to play them? Is it for cosmetics? My bet is probably not. It's probably because you love what you can do in that game and how you get into interesting situations. What would you love to see in the game? Maybe we the players can get it implemented. We are redditors after all, we crashed the stock market.

I realise that I didn't give a possible solution to the problem but that's due to the fact that I'm currently stressing out about an English exam I have to take later today or that my ideas are just so abstract that they wouldn't make any sense.

Sorry for the long read, I just wanted to make sure I got my point across.

TL;DR Dauntless should focus more on mechanics and less on cosmetics.

Thanks for the feedback!

What sort of rewards would you find valuable? I'd love to know so I can pass it on!

Thanks for responding, I'm super happy to help improve my favourite game! I'm not totally sure what possible solutions could work but I have some ideas. One way to take focus off the hunt pass would be to remove bounties and possibly bring in some other way of leveling up the hunt pass. Right now I feel overly compelled to complete all of my bounties which either force me to do the same thing several times over or do something I'm just not in the mood to do. Maybe a fix would have xp drops from every behemoth kill (with a minimum level behemoth of course). A player could also gain more experience from slaying a behemoth with the opposite element from the players weapons, it would promote weapon diversity outside of trials. One other thing that could bring back focus on the game itself would be weapon/armour usage. Over time weapons and armour would start to lose durability, slowly weakening (less protection from armour and less damage from weapons). Many players may not like the thought of it but it would be a cool way to use the spare break parts everyone's complaining about. This is all I can really think of at the moment but the rest of the community has plenty of good ideas so you could ask them in some sort of mega thread. Sorry for the long read again! Hope this helps.

Awesome, thanks for the ideas and thoughts. Really appreciate it!
