It all started with a random idea a couple of active trials speedrunner had. Why don't we just get some people together and fill up as many leaderboard spots as possible? This is where the "Operation Pförtner" aka. "Operation Gatekeep" aka. "Operation Blitzkrieg" was born.
So the idea is simple: get enough players together to fill all 100 group leaderboard spots. With 9 players constantly switching team compositions, you can get a total of 126 "different teams". We ended up with 11 members for this project to make things even easier because not everyone was always available.
After finding out an easy to execute strat the operation began. Over the course of three days we had almost constantly two teams running trials at the same time. The goal was to get at least a 00:18 run and afterwards switch out members to form a different team composition. Thanks to one of our runners (DestinysDeath) we had a spreadsheet to keep track of all possible team compositions and the amount of runs we finished.
The spreadsheet. Kinda a mess but it got the job done.
After everyone spend more than 15 hours of playtime over three days we where finally done. At the time of writing this, we filled up a total of 93 leaderboard spots with 00:18 being the "worst" time at top 100.
To be clear: our intention was not to be trolls and specifically remove certain people from the leaderboard. We just wanted to see how it looks like to have as many "already ranked slayers" on the leaderboard as possible and to have fun with all those amazing speedrunners working towards a bigger goal.
This is how the board looks like with our project finished.
And this how it looks like if you expand the wall
A big thank you for everyone involved in this. It was a fun project to plan out and execute even though everyone of us was pretty exhausted after we finally finished it. It was hopefully a one time thing because the amount of time and effort we put into this is just insane.
TL;DR We decided to gatekeep the complete top 100 just for fun and ended up with 93 total board times from our team with 00:18 being the "worst" run on top 100 (only 6 sec. difference to top 1).
