In my opinion, they don't belong in videogames anymore. There's no place for them. They feel terrible, they're incredibly boring, they require no skill, and Dauntless' implementation of them is just flat out weird. You have a QTE that breaks you out of ice, except only one press out of every ten actually seems to break you out faster; and you have the Styxian, which if you're pounced faces you with another button mash QTE which has no feedback whatsoever for your progress, always seems to take the same amount of time regardless of your mashing speed, and punishes you severely even if you do it properly.

If you insist on having mechanics like this, at least make them engaging. For example, an event where you press a randomly chosen set of buttons in sequence to IMMEDIATELY break out of the mechanic, and balance damage taken or the length/complexity of the sequence accordingly. At least then I can actually feel like something is happening. The punishment for getting hit with a lockdown shouldn't be to endure something that's been widely knocked for over a decade; you can have something interesting happening with it.

This is good feedback and likely a design that’s worth revisiting. Thanks!
