2s | You could torture us... |
---|---|
5s | But you'll never defeat our spirit! |
10s | Aaaand cut! |
12s | That was amazing! |
14s | For the longest time on Dead by Daylight, |
16s | we knew that we wanted to offer different types of experiences to our players |
21s | and a single-player, narrative experience is definitely one of them |
24s | and our fans have been requesting it quite a lot. |
28s | So obviously, Supermassive Games with their pedigree, their portfolio of games |
32s | is the perfect partner to deliver that fantastic horror experience. |
37s | The origins of the game stem from Behaviour |
40s | looking to expand the omniverse of Dead by Daylight. |
43s | They approached Supermassive because of our expertise in storytelling. |
47s | Narrative is incredibly important to us, it's at the core of all that we do. |
51s | While we are making games, we are also telling stories |
53s | and delivering a player experience like no one else. |
57s | So, it felt like a really good match. |
59s | C’mon people, we got a movie to make! |
63s | The Casting of Frank Stone is a classic, Supermassive cinematic adventure game, |
69s | Wait! I’m coming with you! |
70s | It's an unashamed horror experience. |
74s | It's a story that we've been thinking around for quite a long time |
79s | and it really fits the omniverse idea that underpins |
84s | a lot of the Dead by Daylight lore |
86s | and so it kind of slipped together as a very natural fit. |
90s | It all starts with our 1963 storyline, which is investigation of a missing child, |
97s | which leads us into a very dark, quite grisly, serial killer horror story. |
101s | But as the story unfolds from there, things go in different directions |
104s | and we bring in a lot of different subgenres of horror. |
108s | Think that belongs to the boy you’re looking for? |
111s | The main influences were always to try to be domestic |
115s | something you could actually believe happens, |
117s | something that you can understand and relate to. |
120s | At the same time, part of it you don't understand and it creates a mystery. |
125s | We're always going back to the classic slasher horror movies |
129s | and characters that we learn to love and hate at the same time. |
136s | What? |
138s | One thing we really latched on to quickly was the idea of |
141s | how a piece of creative art could become a vehicle for horror. |
145s | And in our case, that's a Super 8 film that's being made by a group |
149s | of teenage characters on the site of an infamous serial killer's crimes. |
153s | Argh! F*ck! |
154s | And that felt like a vehicle where we could bring in |
156s | other influences of horror that we really liked. |
158s | Either of you heard of 'Murder Mill'? |
160s | Right at the start of the project, talking with Supermassive, |
164s | we connected because we're passionate about horror |
168s | and we basically get our inspiration from the same sources. |
172s | So, it was great talking with them and seeing |
174s | that a lot of the sources for inspiration they're using |
177s | have been the same that we've been looking into at the genesis of Dead by Daylight. |
181s | So, in that sense, our fans and also new players that will experience this |
186s | can see that both titles are from the same lineage. |
190s | So, for fans of Supermassive Games |
192s | that still haven't stepped into The Fog of Dead by Daylight, |
195s | this is going to be a great first step. |
199s | The audience is always part of who you’re designing for. |
203s | Take a look. |
204s | You imagine the audience, you imagine the person you're writing for. |
207s | So, we kind of imagine the person we're making the game for |
211s | and we think about the things that might interest them |
213s | and the things they'd like to have stories told about. |
216s | And then we think about really cool, nasty situations |
218s | and we see if we can mash those together. |
221s | And the story emerges, the characters emerge. |
223s | You start writing it and it'll be like, “Oh, that's interesting!” |
227s | “Oh, I never thought that character would do that!” |
229s | Well, OK, are we just gonna stand around or are we gonna make a movie? |
233s | In creating The Casting of Frank Stone, |
235s | building its story, building the characters, |
237s | we're really, really mindful of Dead by Daylight fans, |
241s | we know they've got really, really dedicated fan base. |
243s | There's lots of people within Supermassive Games |
245s | who are dedicated Dead by Daylight fans. |
247s | We wanted to do something that explores that story universe |
251s | that Behaviour have created and give players a chance |
254s | to explore it in a new way outside of Dead by Daylight itself. |
258s | Also, obviously, we want to take people who enjoyed Supermassive Games, |
261s | who enjoy branching adventure games. |
264s | We want to do something that's really, really cool |
266s | and that they find engaging |
268s | where they can fall in love with the characters, |
270s | where they can grow to loathe some of the characters and get them killed. |
272s | The choice is theirs! |
274s | Gothic. I like it! |
276s | The Casting of Frank Stone has been crafted to be |
279s | a standalone story in the Dead by Daylight omniverse. |
282s | So, anyone that's looking for a great horror experience |
288s | that taps into human darkness, will have a lot of fun with it. |
292s | Of course, if you're a Dead by Daylight fan |
294s | and if you're lore-savvy about Dead by Daylight, |
296s | then there's going to be a lot of little secrets and surprises for you. |
300s | I’m glad to see you’re all having fun, |
303s | but if you insist on using my store as a playground |
305s | I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask you to take it outside. |
