69s excited to have this new chapter ready
72s for you to enjoy giddy I think is the
77s right word the fact that we managed to
82s just getting in touch with Netflix it's
86s not easy and then actually the
90s conversations with them were super fun
92s they were very excited for us to do this
94s the people that we talked to over there
96s actually understood the game they knew
98s about the game and and they they wanted
101s to make it happen it was amazing a
104s beautiful experience other than that
106s it's also very professional people and
108s they had tons of help and inspiration it
112s was it was actually super fun to do we
116s are so far all the licenses that we've
121s put into the game have been very old
125s classics these things are the building
127s blocks on which so many horror icons
130s were built actually and so that's sort
134s of the playground where we were in and
136s now with the release of stranger things
138s we are in the middle of the current
142s biggest horror thing that there is
145s arguably so yeah we're very excited to
149s show you that we have a few other
150s surprises in there let's get started and
154s dig a little more into that so today
156s with me I have a returning Jew very

163s it's true some people are impressed by
166s you say yeah but your work so genic is a
174s game designer most of the time you spend
178s your days trying to devise new killer
180s powers yeah and trying to tweak the
181s existing ones yeah we work perks also
186s okay and then Phil directs artists so
191s you don't really do anything just point
193s to people and go be better more less in
197s every life okay
200s so I'll talk a little bit about what the
203s toughest thing on the license purely was
206s because that's that's one of the parts
208s that I worked on so getting in touch
210s with Netflix and trying to do any sort
213s of agreement with such a huge company is
216s was a learning experience that was very
220s educational for me it was really cool
222s though they as I said they were excited
224s and they were enthusiastic so it was
228s really really fun and the fact that it's
230s a current license it's live it's moving
233s it was fun also because actually we
235s started talking to them about doing that
237s before they released season 3 so we
241s actually got privy to a few spoilers
244s beforehand not too many and we tried to
247s keep it to a reasonable level because
249s some of us watch the show and are kind
253s of fans so it was sort of a bittersweet
256s thing to be able to peek behind the
259s curtain on that one but once the the
262s agreements and everything was set it was
264s super fun to work with them because they
266s have a lot of reference material they
269s were super active the writers were
272s involved so that they could look at the
274s text that we were doing
277s they had as I said not only just
279s reference from the show but like behind
281s the scenes pictures and and you know
282s their own ideas what it could be and
284s they could give us a few you know
287s highlights of what's coming some great
290s things for instance for the alternate
292s outlets for this demo program we'll get
294s to that a little cool part also was they
296s they were open to ideas yeah yeah
301s it's not all the license holders and and
304s it's certainly not a judgment I mean
306s it's your license you can do whatever
307s you want with it but some are more open
309s to others to interpretations and and
312s re-imaginings and in this case we were
314s given a little bit of freedom on them
316s that's cool so what would like how much
320s freedom were you giving him that I think
323s we well we went with the auctions lab so
326s we wanted something interior but clearly
331s there's room we don't exploring the the
334s show so we had this freedom of adding
337s some storage room and more complex one
342s with the creating a few specific props
345s and things yeah like the I don't know if
348s we want to talk now but the sure the the
350s hook was something that we I was pretty
354s excited to show some ideas to them and
357s that it's always a good showcase of
360s another aspect of the chapter the hook
362s that's a it's a fun place to play yeah
366s the the look and feel is really the
369s upside-down world feeling and it's the
372s first look that we added some animated
375s object the object which are the rats we
379s found in the season three that we didn't
382s hope before were well and we should
384s probably put a big spoiler alert if you
386s haven't watched season three the big
388s danger things just go watch an incoming
391s and that's where Matthew
394s yeah from Netflix told us I'm gonna tell
396s you some sport I'm like I need to listen
398s but it was pretty cool actually
400s to add news wrap and in the end it's
403s they're playing a big role in the season
405s three yeah yeah so okay so we we went in
408s and placed a few like we like to do that
411s I think it started around the lullaby
414s that we started to put a lot more of the
417s storytelling in the actual environment
419s and in this case we were able to do a
422s few wings to specific moments in the
424s series well yeah like if we take example
428s the if you go in second floor there's
430s the isolation room where 11 push back
434s the guard and the wall so we wanted this
436s crack on the wall there's some
437s interrogation rooms some cages where you
441s see the cat thing interrogation and the
444s testing and on the first level we have
449s the rift lab which is the one of the
452s main room that we really wanted to push
454s but it's very present in the series yeah
458s and there's the also the elevator
460s stopped in the so is the the the map in
465s the upside down or is the map set in the
468s real talking
470s it's in the entity auctions yeah that's
474s that's good that's what I wanted
476s together yeah know the game yeah because
481s they were really predominant in the room
483s that you I was caught off guard that's
489s what people have to remember is that
490s this is a space that's crafted by the
494s entity out of people's memories and
497s those whose body are dead because other
503s via the actual lab is taking place after
508s season 2 after map like the where
510s everything goes to banana and we can see
514s some bullets all on the walls and little
517s fire here and there yeah there's a lot
520s of chaos going on so we wanted to play
522s with this play also with the infected
525s region which is more the drift lab part
528s and the other one which is the other
531s side of the drift lab which is not safe
534s but it's people think it's got as messed
538s up as messed up yeah we also like I was
543s saying the infected region and the other
546s region there's collar code and for the
549s exit tile we work with a reddish color
552s so it's easier for them to find the exit
555s because interior map tend to be a bit
559s if there's no if I we did put blinking
564s lights to tell you what to find Jen's
565s right okay
566s especially one Jen like at the top is
568s the integration room like it's the main
571s Jen of the like that the map where it
573s always found its one man Jen I gets at
577s the end of the corner and your back is
580s like to the door to the door so it's
582s it's very not a comfortable place
584s no exactly but you have to be there long
589s because it's a one-man job
591s yes exactly by yourself the flickering
593s light also is a key element in this the
598s show and yes they're running a corridor
600s so we wanted this field to and with the

605s is being this creepy effect because even
609s the Wow the demo Gorgon is pretty creepy
612s so everything combined its yeah on that
615s note the demo Gorgon is our first
619s non-human ish and the size was also not
628s normal no it wasn't normal and when we
631s first got the mesh to the providers we
634s they did share the message that's a good
637s thing is it's not a real monster
638s so it's CG in the show so they share the
641s mash yeah we had to tweak some stuff to
645s made it work in their engine but the
648s actual size we put it in the game we tie
651s it was good but when we arched him it
653s was a bit too small
654s Dwight was taller than him so we had to
657s beat him up yeah beef him up a bit and
660s it was a bit more complicated than me
663s hope for with the Reagan era yeah - and
666s it was pretty common times when we
668s create a killer we tried to reuse at
671s least some of the animations in this
672s case it was like no no seriously the so

757s making it feel like natural and just
759s it's a totally new sets of attack but a
762s great addition but yeah it is a great

772s so it allows us to play a little outside
774s of our comfort zone and it's always good
777s so now the comfort zone grew bigger and
779s who knows what it might lead to in the

782s now we have that all right let's talk a
785s little bit about the teleportation of
787s the demo gaga yeah so when we knew we
794s were gonna do the demo burrowing and
796s that's that's one thing we we look at
798s we're like he has this ability of
800s somewhat appearing behind to surprise
805s people yeah exactly
806s so we thought like could we like we look
809s at the way like we because we don't
812s really have a teleport effect in the
813s game like that the hack does it and she
815s also has a slight deviation of how
818s Freddy does it oh yeah exactly that all
820s you we have to actually right and she
824s also the hag as the add-on that's make
826s her like about you used a teleport
829s somewhat similar to Freddy again or to
832s any news so we look at those and wanted

964s really scares people and I sometimes
966s gives them that is really cool yeah but
969s it gives them the hint that he's gonna
971s be in your face in like in a matter of a
973s second if you didn't move away and if

978s be launching a fast-forward attack
982s you can't maneuver while you're doing it
984s no exactly it's straight you someone can
986s maneuver at the end like just to give a
988s good feel of the attack he has also a

1050s sometimes they just like tease the
1053s killer when the whenever it comes in
1054s this room is just like so far over there
1056s you know do anything but as the killer
1059s you can go upstairs and there's like
1061s this this window floor you can go on and
1066s you can use your pounce attack to reach
1068s them and one shot it's the first time
1071s that happens like so I was all but it's
1075s super fun yeah exactly
1077s okay that's good a more advanced aspect
1080s of the killer for me okay go play
1083s there's the you were referring to the
1085s because whenever you use the pounds you
1089s when you hold your power button you
1091s actually sort of like connect to the
1094s upside down in this effect where you you
1097s can feel your portal and we made it that
1100s if any survivor is within the radius of
1103s your portal you can you can sense them
1105s with the killer instinct aspect it's a
1107s it's a tiny effect that we feel will
1111s probably be used by more advanced player
1114s but can can survivors do anything to
1117s your port yes that's always going to
1118s that because why would survivor hang out
1121s yeah like next to a death trap survivor
1125s can on their side they can interact with
1127s the photo and close them so they can
1131s somewhat there's a tug-of-war effect
1132s that happens between the killer and the
1135s survivor and the funny thing is that we
1138s it's it's real cool for the survivor
1140s because they somewhat have a glimpse of
1142s what the upside down is whenever they
1144s get in contact with those portal so they
1147s get the upside down effect on them and
1149s during that time they don't hear their
1152s character again we didn't put the
1161s disclaimer at the beginning we should
1163s have but every single number every
1166s single thing that we discuss right now
1168s is how it is at the moment we're talking
1171s to you and it's gonna change through the
1174s PTB
1174s there's usually one or two iterations
1176s during the PTB so these numbers might
1178s not all be valid by that time they'll be
1180s tweaked and then by the time it releases
1182s life it's gonna be different from what
1184s the PTB most liking again so just
1187s putting it out there so people remember
1190s that this will already be obsolete by
1192s the time you listen to it
1194s purse shall we go with the perks of the
1197s demagogue on yeah
1201s first it's called surge nuts ang
1211s okay no please do go on what does that
1214s do when you whack someone in they go
1216s down with your base attack it's very
1217s important when you smack somebody with

1261s leave your friends to do the jump but if
1263s you want to be an asshole again well

1278s survivor pops again all the windows and
1282s vault location not palette windows

1395s have two survivors what does it mean we
1399s have six survivor perks

1414s survivors was a long conversation when
1416s we started this chapter yeah everybody
1418s has their favorite everybody was saying

1428s from the get-go like we sort of did that
1431s not really a chart on a board but we
1434s talked about all the different
1435s possibilities and some of them like
1437s already if you like will and and Mike
1440s and all the other kids their their kids
1443s we don't want to beat up kids you don't
1445s want the hat to the kids kidneys and eat
1448s them with no kids so the kids were out
1453s then barb is a favorite but barb dies
1459s and she she dies early she's yeah that's
1467s perfect and there's a few others like
1470s this that we sort of stroke of the
1471s record but Steve and Nancy is what we
1475s ended up with yes and we didn't at that
1479s time we didn't know what was happening
1481s in the last yeah and we were pretty
1483s happy to say that they had a bigger role
1485s so yeah well that's it so when we we
1490s talked to Netflix are on that and
1491s they're like yeah it's a good choice
1492s you've got a good arc in the third
1495s season they they also directed us a
1499s little bit to make sure that we
1500s portrayed them in the right way because
1502s obviously again we didn't want kids so
1505s they had to be the Steve and Nancy from
1507s the third season even though they may
1509s have outfits and moments and things that
1511s talk about their history and they still
1514s own those clothes again yeah but yeah
1517s and the cool part was also we could add
1520s the likeness the likeness is always a
1522s tricky one yeah as far as our goals
1525s because we're creating real people is
1527s tough in the mirror makes a big
1529s difference sometimes
1531s something the shadow cast differently in
1534s there but and and you know hair has
1538s always been difficult in our game it got
1541s a lot better in the last couple of years
1544s but we're still but if you're doing
1546s Steve ya gotta have hair so first team
1549s you really wanted to keep the is iconic
1552s hair styles yeah and that's yet some
1556s different their felt but Steve has a
1558s very is that got four puffs of the
1562s Farrah Fawcett's yeah yeah so for Steve
1567s we put extra hairspray but yeah it was
1573s it was exciting to actually do to
1577s survivors this time so obviously you
1579s know go sighs then have one we're
1582s allowing ourselves to change the recipe
1584s a little bit on what a chapter can be
1586s and these two are are so cool and they I
1591s think they represent the series very
1593s very well yeah so the likeness was
1597s probably the toughest thing on this this
1599s and for me Nancy was I wasn't sure at
1603s the beginning because she's very shy not
1605s confident but we pushed her confident
1610s sight when she's getting more confident
1611s in the show and the third season she's
1613s even more confident so that was cool and
1615s Steve was just this badass guy that
1618s everybody wants to
1619s yeah all right survivor perks six of
1624s them how painful was that yeah it was
1632s okay
1633s I mean we whenever we this time I think
1636s that we were somewhat lucky because we
1638s ended up with like a lot of interesting
1641s perk and we we thought our journey that
1644s oh we're gonna keep those for next
1645s survivor right because we have to see
1648s that because they're really good but I
1650s said okay well we has the chance to put
1652s everything yeah in the same same release
1655s and the thing is it's two very different
1657s characters yeah they're like fit like
1662s when we look at like the sort of
1665s character that Steve is and Nancy like
1667s there's of course we could discuss that
1670s some of them might not fit hundred
1672s percent but there there was one like
1674s each that okay it fits so much yeah yes
1681s we had to name one the babysitter for
1684s sure and well sure we saw this spurt
1687s like it's sort of course like all perks
1689s did change throughout the development
1691s and but this one like it was the idea is
1694s that you you help others something a bit
1697s like the bills perk where you sort of
1701s our time exactly that like it's not
1704s about the survivor
1706s I mean you it's just it's something that
1708s you give to other so do you give others
1710s so when you hunt hooker survivor this
1712s time you the Hunnic survivor do not
1715s leave scratch marks and blood trail for
1719s eight second and on your side you're the
1722s lucky bastard who has this or reveal to
1725s the killer for for second but you see
1727s the killers or yes yes exactly so psych
1731s come get me right over there and you can
1734s take a hit for them or something exactly
1736s so you can think of other perks that you
1738s can come
1739s this that's great yeah and that that I
1742s mean that with borrowed time actually

1751s second one is chemically yeah which it's
1755s something that was requested from the
1758s community were like a perk that extend
1761s the time on the hook and weren't sure
1763s like it's something that factors that
1766s you have to factor the killer cannot
1769s just oh well give twenty seconds more
1770s and so how does this one more this one
1773s is while you on the hook and you reach a
1776s struggle face the perk activate that
1778s means that you're gonna be able to use
1779s it only once per game yeah and well of
1783s course if you escape no if you don't get
1787s cookin reaches what's wrong on face and
1789s once that it activate if any survivor
1792s comes within a certain radius of view at
1796s the moment sixteen meters the struggle
1799s phase pause pauses for 14 seconds so it
1803s gives more time for the survivor to
1805s maybe describe the killer and make the
1808s rescue exactly and on a survivor side we
1811s headed that the bar flashes to tell you
1814s that okay this guy has a few moments
1818s exactly alright and the the last one is
1825s second wind yeah because he does get
1829s beat up quite a lot and he keeps going
1831s yeah that's another one that when we we
1833s saw like okay we have to connect this to
1836s Steve in some way there's so much this
1837s character like it's pretty much all the
1840s season so so this one activates when
1842s you're healing someone yes exactly you
1846s have to you have to heal one full health
1849s state which mean that you can do a bit
1851s here you'll see the progression once you
1854s have the full heal you the perk activate
1857s does it trigger when the state changes
1860s or do you have to heal for 100% or
1863s someone else helps you then it's no
1865s you're just gonna get less if if
1866s somebody
1868s help you hitting somebody so you have to
1871s heal and enough by yourselves yeah this
1874s is ill one full because ours our health
1876s system works or healing system works in
1878s charge yes so you have to take that
1881s number of specific charge which equal
1883s one survivor that's not to daily ritual
1886s them you have and once the perc is
1889s activated the next time you are unhooked
1892s you're gonna receive the broken status
1895s effect and while you're outside the
1898s terror radius of the killer the perc
1901s heals you over time and after 20 second
1905s you'll be fully healed it's an instant
1908s heal it's not an actual healing progress
1911s just know make sure you understand that
1914s it's just like and because you're broken
1916s nobody else can help you during that
1918s time well you can just exactly go repair
1924s Jen or financial paper that's very
1927s that's a very interesting one but it's
1930s essentially a second chance also yes
1932s and when you lose the broken the when
1935s the perc heals you up of you see you
1937s back to normal you lose the broken state
1940s okay and if you are broken before the
1946s perc activate this program never
1947s activated until you get rid of the
1949s original broken
1952s now if you already is sick for example
1954s from the plague and put you on the hook
1956s it was just like you're not gonna get
1958s any benefit from that okay what about
1961s Nancy yeah Nancy the first one is better
1965s together
1965s mmm-hmm so you when you work on a Jen
1968s you reveal the general not you're the
1972s judge that Jan's aura to other survivor
1974s in a certain radius EJ and while you
1977s repair the gem if the killer down
1980s somebody you see a bo-buddies over for
1983s for a few seconds pretty awesome yeah
1986s the the second one I think is a very
1988s interesting and unique one yeah which I
1991s like yeah it's called fixated
1994s and it's something that like I think
1998s that especially new players will really
2000s enjoy but we try to give a twist to like
2004s adventure to make use out of it so it's
2008s it allows you to see your own scratch
2011s marks so whenever you run or stop
2013s running whatever you see when these
2015s shots when the killer can actually spot
2018s you and I think that for advanced
2020s players it's actually super useful to be
2022s able to try to play mine oh yeah you can
2026s cut the corner and try to like arrive
2028s the killer in one direction you can
2030s clearly see what he's gonna see on top
2032s of that yes you walk faster 20% yes kind
2037s of big yeah exactly you like especially
2039s build with sprint birds for example or
2042s people who walked on out good it's gonna
2045s be very interesting yeah
2048s the last one is called inner strength
2050s that was one of the I would say like in
2052s all the six that was the one that we got
2055s most feedback yeah very positive like
2058s people found it like he's very
2060s interesting and it's a it's not a simple
2063s one no it's not a simple one and what I
2065s like about this one is like it fits also
2067s with Nancy's character where they can
2069s especially in the newer season where
2071s she's really investigating and want to
2074s get like get stuff done yeah exactly
2077s so how does it work so each time you
2081s clean the totem it activates a perk any
2083s totem tricks and then once the perk is
2087s activated if you are injured you can get
2089s inside a locker to wait for eight second
2094s to get a full heal and then you can come
2096s out fresh and new and and then you if
2099s you're hurt you just plant the totem
2102s yeah time so you know like just stock
2108s tokens know exactly you're the master
2111s you should find it Odin cleans it you're
2113s gonna get your perk activate next time
2115s you get hurt you just get an airlock
2116s yeah
2117s it's Superman yeah and since this perk
2120s has been out like I have difficulty
2121s finding totems because everybody's
2123s and then it's gonna make some other
2126s totem related perks yeah sure
