2050s but mostly me the first video was
2053s released on June 19th 2017 and Sam made
2057s it because he was a huge fan of the game
2060s but he didn't think anyone would
2062s actually watch it boy was he wrong it
2065s was an instant hit with depth by
2067s daylight fans and even caught the eyes
2069s of the developers he didn't stop there
2072s and went on to make 50 more episodes
2074s probably he also started live streaming
2078s the game on his YouTube's channel Sam
2080s would also like to take the makers of
2082s debate daylight for creating me and his
2085s favorite game ever
2091s although I will never forget palette
2094s vacuum why you do that okay I read lines
2098s gingersnaps please my name is Christophe
2104s young I'm a character concept artist I
2107s behavior interactive working on dead by
2109s DL a concept arts really interesting
2113s because a lot of people think that it
2115s it's just about like drawing and just
2117s like drawing day in and day out but
2119s there's actually a lot of a lot of
2121s research you have to become like an
2123s expert about I don't know world war to
2125s an expert about the Victorian era or an
2127s expert about this or not
2128s every couple days
2132s it's kind of like a childhood dream
2135s coming true because you get to you know
2137s draw character from your imagination
2139s from better research but then you get to
2142s see super talented animators and riggers
2145s and sculptors you know bring this
2148s character to life and actually see your
2150s creation come to life in game in
2155s university I used to plot survival
2157s tactics like if there was a zombie
2159s apocalypse or something we would figure
2161s out a way to like escape the inner city
2163s or whatever yeah I think I make a pretty
2165s good survivor so we are very excited
2177s with UFO UFO is going to be an
2180s incredible year for the dead by Dalek
2182s figures we see long-term vision for the
2185s game we want to solidify the game we
2187s want to make sure that the game is more
2189s stable more robust therefore for us is
2191s all about the health of the game here
2194s four is going to expand the universe of
2198s dead by daylight it's gonna add new
2200s things to do new stories to explore it's
2203s gonna be amazing
2205s new content is always gonna be there we
2208s will continue with the chapter releases
2210s obviously every three months we're gonna
2213s get a new chapter
2214s we know that people want more and more
2216s of the game we want to be able to tell
2217s more stories we want to be able to bring
2219s more characters we want to be able to
2221s give players more mechanics to play with
2224s more dead by daylight we are super
2226s excited to start a new you with the
2229s release of course phase so this year
2232s we'll create new maps we're also going
2235s to put effort on revisiting some of our
2237s old maps so we are planning for two new
2239s maps and to map reworks so what the
2242s player can expect out of these reworks
2244s is a global balanced pass so everything
2247s that's procedural within the level will
2249s be reviewed to create more of a balanced
2251s experience there's also going to be a
2253s lot of effort put on visuals of some of
2255s this specific maps so the lighting the
2258s art assets Whedon will be reviewed
2261s Freddie's rework has been long in the
2263s making and we're so happy to finally
2265s being able to reveal and release this to
2269s the community so Freddie's power is
2271s going to be reworked completely so it's
2273s gonna create a new gameplay which we
2275s think is closer to what the character is
2277s in essence so it's gonna go to that
2280s fantasy of being the nightmare during it
2283s for we want to make sure we improve the
2285s game in many ways
2286s the biggest ones are matchmaking data
2289s cursors and optimization along with
2291s other improvements that we'll be able to
2293s add on to the game you're gonna have a
2295s steady framerate all around you're gonna
2296s have good connectivity to servers you're
2299s not gonna feel punished if for some
2300s reason another player nicking
2302s disconnects the game is gonna be able to
2304s handle that properly but the archive is
2307s a way for the player to explore more in
2310s depth the stories of our characters and
2312s the universe of day-by-day life in the
2314s archive the player will have to complete
2316s different challenges which add goals for
2318s him to do within the game by completing
2320s these challenges the player will unlock
2322s narrative component about the characters
2325s that will come in as cutscenes
2328s you know this game can only benefit from
2331s more and more people playing so we have
2334s the switch coming which is super
2336s exciting I'm a big Nintendo fan and I'm
2339s very happy and very proud that we were
2341s able to do justice to the console by
2344s doing that by daylight the right way to
2346s the Nintendo switch and also we have the
2349s mobile version of the game it's gonna be
2351s a very different way to interact with
2354s the game but at its core it's the same
2356s experience it's dead by daylight it's
2358s the same jump-scares it's the same sweat
2360s releasing on mobile is like growing I
2363s wasn't dead by family it's super
2365s exciting our vision for the game you
2366s know how we see it is that for this year
2369s is going to be a way for us to give back
2371s to the players to thank them for the
2373s support we have so much cool stuff
2376s coming to DVD we're gonna keep bringing
2378s you awesome content and we're not just
2382s gonna bring you stuff that you've been
2383s asking for ever but you're gonna be
2385s surprised by things you didn't know you
2387s wanted so much seriously this year is
2390s gonna be the most amazing we've had

2433s daylight band that's crazy all right
2437s welcome back first panel of the evening
2440s thank you very much everybody here for
2441s joining me let's talk a little bit about
2443s what's ahead for us first I will
2446s introduce our panelists so Dave is our
2449s creative director hello Dave Stefan is
2452s our producer and jay homies are very shy
2455s senior product manager okay good we'll
2460s take that
2461s all right so very quickly let's look
2463s back a little bit on what we did in the
2466s last year so we presented our roadmap
2468s last year about the same time and we've
2471s done quite a lot since then obviously
2474s chapters we had four amazing original
2477s chapters this year curtain call
2479s shattered blood line darkness among us
2482s and demise of the faithful yeah and that
2487s was amazing true we absolutely got a bit
2493s of a surprise just sort of slipped in
2495s last moment we did a lot of really cool
2498s things other than that stay fine you
2500s want to talk a little bit about how we
2501s improved our test flow we really
2503s reinforced public test bills and really
2506s made sure they were part of the normal
2507s process so now with every major release
2509s two weeks before the release the bill
2511s goes in the hands of person of our
2513s player base it allows us to catch some
2515s issues we weren't able to tell you the
2517s catch during development last-minute
2519s balance tweaks that we need to do before
2521s going live and it's really really
2522s helping to make a better product it's
2524s perfect we've introduced quite a lot of
2527s new features things that now people take
2531s for granted
2531s but that are so important what came in
2535s this year a year ago we didn't have any
2537s store so we started last year with the
2540s store and all these new cosmetic we had
2541s a lot of fun creating them this year and
2543s seeing the players showing their
2545s personality using them see that I think
2548s every time we release new cosmetics but
2551s I think that the last one we just
2552s release with the clown it's just
2554s probably my favorite
2556s more recently we changed the core
2558s mechanic of the game like with the
2560s endgame collapse that's also quite
2562s amazing yeah that's a big one we also
2564s added great big tutorials which we
2568s didn't have before so that's a huge help
2570s for all of our new players we also spent
2574s a lot of time at least the first pillar
2576s last year when we talked about what we
2578s were gonna do was help how did we do
2580s that
2582s so during yes free we focused on several
2585s initiatives such as the internship
2588s program yes I managed to bring more
2590s secure in better system for the players
2592s we consult much we started with lesson
2595s for survivors that was great
2598s with the last recent patches we optimize
2601s the number of frame per second and also
2604s we know that players really like when we
2607s are clear and transparent so with the
2610s help of the community team we started to
2613s post the dev blog update where we talk
2615s about the issues that are in the game
2618s and we explain how we are going to fix
2621s them yeah that's true well that's one of
2623s the things that it's it's pretty recent
2624s too I mean we've made great big changes
2627s but the community team has changed how
2629s we present our work where we're at
2632s sometimes stuff that's not even released
2634s yet and where we're at with that and
2636s we've done that with the matchmaking
2637s we've done that with a few different
2638s issues and I think that's a that's a
2641s beautiful way for us to continue being
2642s transparent well being more thorough and
2645s and give more yes next year we will have
2650s quite a lot of this and more so let's
2653s start the four pillars this year
2655s obviously are gonna be chapters we're
2657s gonna have chapters again four of them
2659s we're gonna have game held in there
2662s we're gonna have live balancing and we
2664s intend to have quite a lot more new
2667s goals and new ways to experience the
2669s game that's gonna be a tricky one we're
2670s going to talk about that a little bit
2672s later
2672s first of all four chapters talk to us
2675s about that a little bit yes the major
2678s content update for the game players want
2680s and love them you know so we won't
2682s provide them for exciting chapters you
2684s know so new characters new play sign so
2686s it's going to be amazing and we are
2689s going to take
2690s sympathy on so one chapter every three
2692s months okay can you maybe give us a
2694s little sneak peek at the next chapter
2695s next chapter is going to be about
2697s Ghostface secret surprise surprise
2703s if swiftly moving on what else are we
2706s gonna do yes so we are going to release
2708s two brand new synapse but we want also
2711s to take the time to revisit all the maps
2713s we reach a game state where we want to
2716s tweak these maps for better overall
2719s experience we've learned quite a lot
2721s about how to make maps in the last three
2723s years yes and we want to go back
2725s essentially and put that knowledge to
2727s good use in some of the existing maps
2730s exactly see game evolve clears off a
2734s volt and we want that map updates
2736s reflect this evolution so that's gonna
2738s be gameplay and art yes in term of art
2742s we are going to upgrade the assets so
2745s the world that we crafted we feel richer
2748s and more immersive and on the gameplay
2750s while we can play wise we are going to
2752s do several changes very inside it so
2754s that by delight is about cows you know
2756s when you enter in a map it should be
2759s tense what kind of map you're going to
2761s play it with and we want to bring back
2763s this the uncertainty is in sentence
2766s e-learning exploring you know going out
2770s of the comfort zone that's going to be
2771s very important first so we're going to
2773s add new new tiles for more variations so
2777s that those are overall changes to the
2779s way maps are made but we're also gonna
2781s spend some effort to go and revisit some
2783s specific maps that need a little extra
2785s life right yes exactly we are going to
2787s do some changes because now we have the
2789s tool to tweak see for example some very
2792s procedural logic such as the palette
2795s spawning the the density of the hook and
2798s the first map that going to get from
2801s makeover is going to be madam Frisco
2802s that's that's much appreciated
2806s I'm sure by our players and with that
2808s obviously it would be silly to you know
2811s put some work in there without that
2813s going to help the man that's in charge
2816s of that place so we talked a lot about
2818s it on the dev update or even on
2821s most highly demanded by the community we
2823s are going to release the work of
2826s Freddy's in the next meet chapter
2828s amazing thank you thank you yes you
2832s didn't do it personally but I thank you
2835s that's great game help let's move on to
2838s game held how are we gonna put you know
2842s our our our money where our mouth is on
2845s the game held front for this as we
2847s mentioned game health was an important
2849s pillar last year and it remains an
2851s important thing this year for us it
2853s comes in the shape of a few major
2854s components who want to improve in the
2856s game the first thing we wanted to work
2858s and improve in the game for players was
2860s matchmaking yeah for the past six months
2863s or so we have really revisited was in
2864s place when it comes to matchmaking in
2866s order to improve on two specific facets
2868s of this one of which is eliminating
2871s extreme wait times for certain players
2873s to the outliers in the curve
2875s exactly we know that some players in
2877s certain certain circumstances are gonna
2880s wait tens of minutes and that's
2881s something we really wanted to trim down
2883s as much as we could and that's something
2885s we've been working towards the other
2887s thing is we want to control how players
2889s are paired together based on their ranks
2892s based on their geolocation and that's
2894s something we're taking a lot of effort
2896s to improving in this new improved
2898s algorithm in matchmaking and that's the
2900s thing also because there are some tools
2903s that we can use to help because
2904s obviously when a big part of the
2907s matchmaking is you need people to want
2908s to play the boat roles within good
2911s ratios depending on the time of day and
2913s the populations sometimes can be
2915s difficult but we have ways to help with
2917s that right exactly and that's the
2919s difficult thing with matchmaking and
2920s something we're learning as we're going
2922s along there are some things we don't
2923s control if there's a very severe
2925s imbalance between the number of killers
2927s and survivors in a certain region or at
2929s a certain time of the day there's a lot
2931s of fluctuation that happens that's
2933s something we don't control but at least
2934s we have some tweaks some params that we
2936s can change to make that better and
2938s alleviate the load for everyone and one
2941s of the main reasons well other than the
2943s fact that matchmaking is critically
2944s important but we had to revisit
2946s matchmaking anyway because of another
2948s big change that's coming from a trick is
2951s strictly a technical standpoint the
2953s matchmaking is leading us
2954s directly into dedicated servers the new
2955s matchmaking will allow for for that and
2958s it's really really exciting to move
2960s towards that our initial tests happened
2962s in the month of May or late April during
2965s the PTB and it's been really really fun
2968s to put that in the hands of player and
2969s seeing how the scaling reacted to the
2972s player base we had on the PCB it was
2973s mostly really fun because everything
2975s worked as intended it always is a lot
2978s better when it goes when it's positive
2979s than than anything else and dedicated
2982s servers will bring us the tools to do
2985s something that's been asked quite a lot
2987s to the helping on disconnects and how we
2990s deal with that absolutely it's always
2992s been a problem that we don't necessarily
2994s know how to handle a player
2995s disconnection because it's difficult for
2997s us to detect who's disconnecting since
2999s we didn't have a third party or a
3002s different entity that is responsible for
3004s making decisions now with dedicated
3006s servers we'll be able to better
3007s understand who is disconnecting and make
3010s sure other players get rewarded
3012s appropriately and then that's gonna lead
3014s us into giving a set of tools to our
3017s community team to make sure those who
3019s disconnect you frequently are gonna be
3021s treated in a special way oh okay it's a
3026s milder way of putting it I'm sure some
3028s people have very vigorous desires
3032s regarding that but we'll leave that to
3034s our very competent community team to
3037s deal with let's talk a little bit about
3040s optimisation we've done I think that
3042s patch 11.5 was probably the the biggest
3046s improvement we've done the the players
3048s especially on consoles a big improvement
3050s how are we gonna continue on that
3053s optimisation we talked about it started
3055s last year and it's something that's
3056s gonna be ongoing for the next months
3058s obviously really the first thing for us
3060s was about understanding where the game
3062s was at right now so we've built herself
3064s a set of tools that allowed to track
3066s properly the state of the game patch
3068s after patch over to different platforms
3070s and now we're in a much better place to
3072s understand this the second step was
3075s really making sure the game the game ran
3077s properly at all times so we've looked at
3079s systems that are actively running such
3082s as network communication survivors
3085s running around or game
3086s systems that are always active and
3088s always running in the game to make sure
3089s there wasn't something that was too
3091s costly that was always affecting
3093s negatively the game and once we've
3096s established a good baseline we'll move
3097s on to those specific spikes like some
3100s powers a combination of events that
3103s create exactly we know that at least the
3105s things that are all running all the time
3107s this is something we're addressing as we
3109s go but we're really gonna shift the
3110s focus on specific perk specific powers
3113s who are either causing big spikes or
3115s when active will simply cause a general
3117s drop of framerate for all players
3119s involved that's good
3121s it's really exciting to actually keep
3122s moving forward with this yeah because
3124s that's a big thing also is that we it
3127s used to be part of the process but now
3128s there's a team that's dedicated for that
3131s right yeah we have a team of five
3132s engineers who have been working on the
3134s on optimization for the last six months
3136s now it's gonna be actively going going
3139s on in the future that's great yes
3142s there's another little thing that we
3143s need to talk about here it seems like a
3150s small thing but it comes with some big
3152s benefits absolutely yeah we can see it
3154s in two in two parts here we want to
3157s bring the front management and the
3159s friend display inside the game directly
3160s so all the friends lists the people that
3163s you have friended on the platform you're
3164s playing on PlayStation on Xbox on switch
3168s eventually all these friends are gonna
3170s be directly listed inside the game so
3172s the the reflection for the players will
3175s mostly be that instead of seeing that
3177s overlay from the first party pop in
3179s you'll just be doing that through the
3182s game interface exactly but it does bring
3186s us the possibility to bring in a feature
3190s that's been asked for a little bit by
3192s internalizing the management of friends
3194s and the display of friends and invites
3196s inside the game it allows us a friend
3199s Riku we call but basically survival
3201s friends group will be able to be
3202s maintained together game after game
3204s because the party is not gonna live in
3206s the game it's gonna live on our servers
3208s instead of what is right now I think
3211s that's the most beautiful thing you've
3212s said that's really really excited
3214s exciting we do that for 80

3218s thirty four months I believe is the
3220s correct number so yeah we see all the
3224s work that's gonna happen in the next few
3226s months all of these updates are coming
3229s in in before chapter 13 or around that
3232s two very important milestones also that
3235s we will be crossing really soon we want
3237s to invite more people to play the game
3239s we want to put the game into your hands
3242s in many different ways so the game is
3244s coming to the switch you've heard it
3247s here for the very first time September

3258s it's time for you and for everybody out
3265s there who has pockets we are bringing
3267s the game to mobile this year III will
3277s not go in details on that one
3279s this is gonna be handled by our mobile
3281s team which is somewhere around there yay
3284s mobile team and they will be doing a big
3289s event and talk about all the details in
3292s the next few weeks so more info there
3296s other than that let's go into what cool
3299s new features we have in store I know
3302s it's my turn because my heartbeat so
3308s yeah we're very excited to announce this
3310s new mode the archive not a mode sorry
3312s it's a new way to play it's not a mode
3314s and it's not about it enriches the the
3316s game that we already have but it adds
3317s new a new way to play new girls to the
3319s player you know some players play for
3322s 7,000 million hours already so we want
3325s to bring something new in the game right
3327s now so let's go it's alright but the
3331s archive is well I heard it expands the
3334s universe so here's what the archive does
3338s more than expand the universe so really
3339s it's a platform to be able to explore
3341s the lore of what that by the light is
3343s it's one of the things that's constantly
3346s asked more story about the characters
3348s there's a big craving and of course
3350s because we're a multiplayer game we
3352s don't have a lot of access or places
3354s where we can explore the story of our
3355s character every chapter we release the
3357s new characters they have a bio some
3359s add-ons and perks to explain their
3361s background and then that's it so the
3363s archive is the perfect platform to be
3365s able to explore these stories more in
3366s depth there's much more you wanna share
3368s with players there's so much going on
3370s inside its head but also and then the
3373s team's head as a whole so it's really a
3374s great platform for us to use then of
3377s course there's gonna be new things to do
3379s so new new goals we'll cover that a
3380s little bit later and it's gonna be a new
3382s way to collect
3384s more cosmetics on top of everything that
3386s we're doing putting new stuff in the
3389s store this is a new way to be able to
3392s unlock rewards like cosmetic but more
3393s we'll discuss that as well okay you want
3399s to talk about this absolutely so here's
3401s the concept of the archive of course is
3402s work in progress so with the archive
3405s we'll be bringing the players into a new
3407s area of the entity and we'll introduce a
3409s new support character called it's called
3412s the observer the archivist there's
3414s multiple name even the prisoner but will
3417s not discuss about the story today it's
3419s something that the players will have to
3420s discover to the years but what's what I
3425s want to say today is what is to be
3428s expected in the archives so the observer
3431s has a very unique power where it can
3433s probe the entity fog and find memories
3437s and stories that are stored in the
3440s memory of the entity know every time a
3441s character is taken by the entity all of
3444s the memories of that character goes into
3446s the fog somewhere it's stored something
3447s that's how all the universe is sort of
3449s created exists it's Bob from the people
3452s and then that kind of forgotten it's not
3453s used by the entity but the observer can
3455s probe and find these stories for reasons
3457s that we'll see later yeah probing so you
3461s know right here on the concept we see a
3462s little cadet so this is one of the story
3464s we're gonna explore it's an example so
3466s when you know a little bit backstory
3468s what made close that clue that that we
3470s know so last thing on stories we want to
3474s be generous with the lore of the game so
3477s every archive so every three months in
3479s between the chapter release we want to
3481s release a new tone on the mid chapter
3484s and we want to release a new tome and
3487s the tone is gonna have survivor stories
3488s killer stories and one story that
3491s expands the universe that make the story
3494s of the dead by daylight progress oh
3496s that's awesome
3497s and so yeah let me get that straight so
3500s we we have the chapters that are gonna
3502s be coming every three months and then we
3504s have the the stuff that keeps coming in
3506s the store all the time and then we'll
3507s add on top of that every six weeks in
3510s between the chapters we're gonna put the
3512s archives which is gonna bring a lot of
3514s different quests and missions and things
3516s to do
3517s ton of new content okay good so what
3522s we're seeing here is what the player
3523s will actually be doing in the archive so
3527s what you're gonna see in a tome is a web
3530s of quests and mission a bit like the
3532s blood web but with different things that
3534s you need to accomplish in the game so
3537s the player decides what path they want
3539s to use to be able to unlock all the
3541s goodies in there and there's some
3543s survivor mission there's some killer
3545s mission there are some that are more
3547s global or some that are really specific
3549s and a lot of them are also based around
3553s the story that we're currently exploring
3555s so each tome has its own theme in its
3558s own story yeah exactly
3559s and the mission are going to be linked
3560s somewhat to the story that we're
3562s exploring and the rewards too so what we
3565s see here is that of course you'll be
3566s able to progress your character using
3568s blood points that are rewards of the
3570s note themself of the missions but you're
3572s also going to unlock the stories bit by
3575s bit
3575s and once you complete each of the story
3578s you will unlock an animatic that shows
3580s you're you know all the characters that
3582s we have in situations that are
3583s impossible to see normally in the game
3585s yeah you can also see here charms so
3589s there is a kind of cosmetic yeah it's a
3592s new cosmetic that we will release with
3595s the archive called the charm so these
3597s are little trinkets that you can equip
3598s on survivors belt and also on the killer
3602s hook so as part of the archive it's
3604s important to understand that there's
3605s four difficulty levels in the archive so
3609s difficulty of mission and when you
3611s complete one of the difficulty level you
3613s will unlock this completion charm that
3615s is unique to that tone meaning that it's
3618s the ultimate bragging right so if I'm
3620s not done by the time the next stone
3622s comes out can I still work on it
3624s absolutely the archive stone will be
3627s available to all forever it's part of
3629s the normal game everybody has access to
3631s it awesome yeah yeah that was the
3634s question yeah absolutely
3635s okay this is the answer okay there's
3638s more with the archive as well
3640s so the rift is something else that comes
3644s with the archive so when the observer
3647s probes inside the fog it creates a rift
3650s the rift is not permanent as something
3652s temporary so it's for the treatment of
3654s that specific tone that we just released
3656s and in the rift the player will be able
3658s to unlock more cosmetic so here's a
3662s little concept and obviously work in
3665s progress so in in the rift by completing
3668s quests in the tome that is currently
3670s active and by just playing normally
3673s you'll be able to evolve into tears into
3676s two tracks of rewards first track is
3680s free for everybody that is participating
3684s in there you go
3686s so every you know tears in the free
3688s track will be will reward in different
3691s cosmetic and if you want to spice it up
3693s you can also participate in the pay
3695s track which has even more cosmetic and
3697s what's important to understand here is
3698s that the cosmetic rewarded in these
3700s tracks are related to the stories of the
3703s tone that that we're exploring that's
3705s really really cool oh yes there's a big
3708s message every screen right there very
3710s important so everything in the rift is
3712s absolutely no pay to win it's it's all
3715s about cosmetic that's it
3717s no no extra camouflage outfits no ninja
3720s outfit just the pink neon flashing ninja
3724s perfect it's exactly like we thought was
3727s that like original that's perfect thank
3731s you so much for that the tentative date
3734s right now for this is around mid chapter
3737s 13 we say tentative at this point
3740s because this is so big this is so
3742s important for us and it's so chock-full
3745s of goodness we want to make sure that if

3771s of falls flat after three years you know
3774s you you get to Rank 1 and that's it so
3777s we want to make sure through an
3778s initiative this year that we review the
3781s rank and the season so that it's more
3784s meaningful so that means rewards it
3787s means a longer season it's mean you know
3790s a better progression in there so there's
3791s going to be more rank to evolve in and
3794s rewards to unlock also what we have
3798s right now is in the rank is comparing
3800s killers with survivors yeah we think
3802s that this doesn't make a lot of sense
3803s since they have very different roles so
3805s what we want to redo with this rank
3807s rework is to compare killers with
3809s killers you know the trapper with
3811s trappers so that you have you know as a
3814s player your own progression in there you
3816s want to get better and compare to you to
3818s your game and then compare with other
3821s players are playing the same kind of
3822s thing the other very important aspect is
3825s you know our game is amazing because it
3828s is chaotic it says yeah it creates weird
3832s scenarios there's it's unpredictable
3834s there's so many different components and
3836s of course we balance as much as we can
3839s this experience but we do love when it
3841s gets crazy as well so we want to embrace
3844s this chaos and make sure that the game
3845s rewards you accordingly based on how
3848s chaotic it is awesome all right so
3859s that's essentially our roadmap for year
3862s 4 it's shuffled of goodness but I want
3864s to say something so last year when we
3866s released our year 3 roadmap we put a lot
3869s of stuff in there and we delivered I
3871s think probably like 95% of what we put
3873s in there the one or two changes where
3875s because you know things changed and
3877s that's not the priority but we also
3879s delivered a lot of stuff that wasn't in
3882s there and it's most likely what's gonna
3884s happen so this is the things that we
3886s know we're gonna give players for the
3888s next year and there's a lot around this
3892s which is the stuff that we want to give
3893s players or that we
3894s no yet that players want and that's
3897s probably gonna come in also so yeah

4172s us about game design so what do you do
4175s on dead by daylight so I'm the game
4177s designer on the project and I work on
4178s live design my buddy here
4182s you're a one level designer very good
4185s different okay anyways this is not
4191s important so we're talking about live
4193s design you guys okay this is a lot
4196s different than our usual setup so it's a
4198s lot more aggressive right normally we're
4200s like stuck in a small room we talk we
4202s mean this is different but we're good
4204s all right so what is live design what do
4208s you guys do on that on a daily basis so
4211s well live design in ghent like as an
4213s overview is basically a working of a
4217s live product so it's not just done when
4219s it's gets puts out put out we actually
4220s keep working on it and improving it we
4222s look to improve mechanics adjust bugs
4224s and issues as well as look to address
4226s feedback all right and what kind of
4229s feedback do you look into normally so
4234s live design you know as opposed to you
4238s know a normal type of production it's
4240s it's mostly about quick decisions
4244s because you don't have as much time
4245s you're constantly in a rush right every
4247s three months have you seen on the road
4249s map we have new content coming out so
4251s it's it's very grueling and so decisions
4255s on the design side are made based on a
4258s few different a few different type of
4261s feedback so the first thing is that
4263s would pay attention to our design
4265s intuition so obviously you know
4267s designers have intentions that want the
4270s the game to be experienced a certain way
4272s excetera so we listen to - to our design
4275s intention but we also pay really close
4278s attention to the community and the
4280s community feedback because they're the
4282s ones playing the game so we had to make
4284s sure that they're making the most out of
4286s it and they're enjoying it and of course
4288s last but not least is the data analysis
4291s in which you know when we we see people
4294s playing we listen to their feedback and
4296s we create variables that we can track
4299s over time to see the cold hard numbers
4301s behind what that feedbacks about and to
4304s also test our own make sure they're our
4306s own ideas and our own intuitions are
4308s aligned with that at the community
4310s alright so stuff is here today to talk
4312s to us about the Freddie rework I'm not
4315s missing this one up and Matt is here
4317s today to talk about the map updates so
4320s let's start with you Freddie rework now
4325s I know that chap is going crazy right
4327s now
4327s they saw a little tiny little thing on a
4330s teaser earlier and now the Terry's are
4333s all over the place so I said rework for
4337s you I said update for you what's the
4339s difference between an update and a
4341s rework so when we're talking about
4343s characters specifically an update is
4345s like what we do with the race and what
4347s we do with the Legion when you recently
4349s saw ultimately we're not changing the
4351s power drastically you're still playing
4353s in the same we're just meet weaking some
4355s numbers and ways of how it actually
4357s functions with the rework we're gonna be
4360s changing the power completely you can
4361s expect to play the killer differently
4363s and we're touching add-ons the power
4366s itself the way he plays the way people
4368s experience him most importantly so why
4372s did we specifically choose to rework the
4375s Freddy character so the nightmare came
4377s out and our players felt a little
4379s frustrated when playing against them and
4380s playing as him waiting 7 seconds before
4383s he can hit somebody was a bit
4384s frustrating for players they want to be
4386s able it people right away and then
4387s playing aids Freddy him being invisible
4390s by default was very difficult for new
4391s players in addition to the fact that
4393s they had a high interaction speed debuff
4395s so it took a long time to do actions so
4397s we're looking to improve those specific
4399s things okay so now we know that why
4401s we're doing team now what's
4402s difference between the original vision
4404s that we had for Freddie and the one we
4406s have for for the new vision actually new
4410s way so the old Freddie as I was
4411s mentioning he was like a delayed type of
4413s game character with very simple
4416s mechanics where he just puts people to
4417s sleep now we're looking to add map
4420s mobility in addition to an active power
4423s that you can use within chases and a he
4427s still has the deviousness aspect of him
4429s but no more interaction debug okay
4433s amazing and I can hear all the Freddie
4436s mains but tell us more so what's the new
4439s power what change so we're looking at
4443s two main components we're looking at a
4444s new sleep cycle and new dream abilities
4448s okay so let's start so there we see it
4453s so a sleep cycle and a dream ability but
4456s before that you just have to put like
4459s you know the survivors to sleep you had
4460s to aim your power now you're talking
4462s about this sleep cycle what what change
4464s on this cuz it's completely different so
4466s the three sleep cycle has three
4468s components to it it has micro sleep
4470s which is the first one I'm going to talk
4471s about ultimately players will experience
4474s Freddie differently so when you're awake
4475s he'll be intermittent at a certain
4477s distance invisible past a certain
4479s distance and completely visible within a
4481s tight range you'll hear the terror
4483s radius by default instead of the lullaby
4485s and that's pretty much it for the
4488s default micro steep and you can hit
4490s people right away as Freddie you don't
4492s have to wait for them to fall asleep
4493s okay so now we're seeing some footage of
4496s Freddie blinking in and out so at this
4498s moment you would hear Tara radius right
4500s exactly as he's walking yes and Freddie
4503s doesn't have anymore to put anyone to
4505s sleep
4506s no people so this is the second
4507s component of the sleep cycle so I was
4509s will be falling asleep passively so it's
4511s gonna happen over 60 seconds or whatever
4513s time we choose keep in mind this is a
4515s work in progress so anything may change
4516s even with the things that I'm saying but
4519s we this should be the general idea of
4520s what's happening after people fall
4522s asleep
4523s Freddie should be completely visible and
4525s you'll be hearing the lullaby instead of
4526s the terror a deus which is a little
4528s harder to detect where he's coming from
4529s okay so in this the safe mode right a
4533s lot of people had
4535s you know feedback about the visual
4538s effect so is that changing or it doesn't
4541s say the same absolutely so the the tree
4543s image will be changing as well people
4544s were saying that the graininess was a
4545s bit difficult for their eyes we're
4546s working on this right now we don't have
4548s an example of what it's gonna look at
4550s look like but look forward to see
4551s something different for that as well and
4553s the dream world will be staying of
4554s course okay so you're gonna be falling
4557s passively asleep yes somehow we were
4560s gonna need to wake up right that's a
4562s really good point so if you knew the
4565s previous Freddy we had failed skill
4566s checks as an ability to wake up now any
4568s failed scale check will wake you up that
4570s includes sabotage in addition to failing
4572s skill checks you can wake each other up
4574s this is the old snap snap clap clap and
4578s then you're awake I think we had footage
4579s for waking up absolutely if nothing if
4587s anything people will be seeing
4588s everything later
4589s this is just a sneak peek in the final
4593s component of waking up is the new dream
4595s object which is a clock on top of a
4597s dresser when you fall asleep there will
4600s be a dream object that you can interact
4601s with that will always wake you up so
4604s it's way easier to get woken up by a by
4607s a fellow survivor or by a generator why
4610s would I want as a survivor to go to that
4613s sleep object sometimes the skill checks
4615s might not be as easily accessible as
4617s people may have bought in the first
4619s place in addition to that waking up both
4622s survivors need to be asleep once whoever
4624s needs to be awake to wake up a sleeping
4626s survivor so you may all be asleep or
4628s there may be nobody near you this will
4630s be a consistent way that people can find
4632s to wake up as this was a complaint that
4633s people had initially okay so there was
4636s another build where it was making him
4640s fall asleep faster if you were not
4642s waking up with the object cuz that's
4644s still the case on this work-in-progress
4646s no no all right that was just follow-up
4652s question yeah so okay so now Freddy
4656s doesn't have to aim a power to put
4658s survivors asleep but it does have powers
4661s of his own oh of course
4662s so what's different with the new dream
4666s demon power so this is the dream ability
4669s oh he's got dream traps and he's got
4671s something else I'm gonna go into that
4673s after this a little teaser right now so
4675s we start with dream pallets dream
4677s pallets not like the doctor but similar
4679s to the doctor you can place dream
4681s pallets on spawn points throughout the
4683s map where pallets would normally spawn
4685s to place these fake pallets awake
4687s survivors do not see these pallets so
4690s you have to play like a memory game and
4692s pitch ones were not there before you
4694s fell asleep and then when you fall
4696s asleep there will be fake pallets these
4698s fake pallets when you interact with them
4699s and drop them they explode in blood so
4701s yeah it's very rare nowadays that
4703s there's pallets everywhere like double
4705s pallets everywhere mm-hmm not happening
4707s anymore right so if you see that there's
4710s something might be problematic 50 yeah
4714s exactly so uh okay dream pallets was
4717s there anything else of course there's
4718s also a dream snare so we're choosing
4721s between the dream pallets in the dream
4722s snares for those of you at home we're
4723s not sure if we're gonna go for both in
4725s this base kit it might be one that turns
4727s into an add-on or the other one is base
4728s kit the dream snares are is an ability
4731s that you can use actively within a chase
4733s it only affects sleeping survivors when
4735s you place it on the ground it will take
4736s two seconds to arm and when a survivor
4738s walks over it they will be slowed for
4740s the time that the trap is active and for
4742s a lingering effect after that this one
4747s was is still a work in progress and we
4749s are testing it internally right now but
4751s they should be seeing some stuff soon
4753s hopefully all right so did you say
4756s anything about that pressure what could
4761s that possibly be so some people saw a
4763s charged bar on in the video at the
4766s anniversary stream with they're paying
4767s attention really closely this is the
4769s generator teleport so ultimately as
4771s Freddy you can aim at a generator and
4773s you can channel an ability for five
4774s seconds after the five seconds you will
4776s appear at the generator so so right now
4779s we're seeing footage of it from the
4781s killer's point of view so you just aim
4784s to the generator and you just get there
4786s right exactly you can also cancel it
4788s ultimately the generator will explode in
4790s blood during the time period while
4792s you're channeling and a husk of Freddy
4795s will also appear at the generator that's
4797s awesome I've seen also that you can
4800s use them in chase now we see the
4802s survivor side rate really ultimately you
4805s can be running towards a generator and
4806s forcing the survivor to go July that
4808s direction and then you can teleport in
4810s front of him to get to the generator and
4811s try to cut him off what did he not do uh
4819s he was looking behind him I think that's
4821s the problem
4822s oh yes anyways um okay so that's a lot
4826s of information but you didn't give us
4828s any number yet everything is still a
4831s work in progress thank you for taking

4838s know that you're gonna you're gonna have
4840s a ton of other questions a community's
4842s gonna just flood from questions we're
4845s gonna take the time to answer them so

4908s updates what is race so map updates yeah
4914s well so first of all first and foremost
4916s year fours lining up to be something
4918s super special I mean you've seen every
4920s everything that we've presented so far
4922s so on the level design side I just
4925s wanted to say you know we've we've
4926s bolstered the team we're three able
4928s bodies now on the team we have the great
4931s Andre land you know
4932s mr. K itseif who just joined us and
4934s myself of course so we're able to
4936s undertake much more ambitious projects
4941s so map updates will jump straight into
4945s it is basically us going to going back
4951s into older maps and essentially bringing
4956s a whole new dimension to to two maps you
4960s already know yeah so as we've seen in
4963s the road map panel you guys are gonna
4964s still down the production of new themes
4967s so far we are doing were slated to do
4970s two new themes this year okay yeah and
4973s how many map updates so far we're slated
4978s to do - map updates
4979s thank you Matt so a map update is the 3
4984s R's that's right that's what you came up
4986s so yeah so the map updates incorporate a
4990s lot of different changes the first how
4993s can I say
4994s category is the rework changes so the
4997s rework changes as jerome mentioned
5000s earlier are to reflect our evolving
5004s community right because the way that our
5006s players play now are not the same way
5008s that they were playing three years ago
5010s in fact there's many things that they've
5012s learned over time and they've learned to
5014s exploit over time and so we are evolving
5020s with the player base and we're gonna
5022s evolve the maps to reflect the reality
5025s of the situation so reworks have a whole
5027s bunch of stuff in it so before we jumped
5031s on that rework refresh and relaunch how
5035s do we create map and dead by daylight
5037s because it's not the same as like every
5039s game right so it's a good point so first
5043s and foremost for those of you that don't
5045s know dead by daylight maps are generated
5047s procedurally as just here on the screen
5049s right now this is an example of what
5051s happens internally for the map to come
5053s together
5054s so essentially level designer as level
5057s designers we we function on four
5059s different levels essentially there's the
5062s assets that we create which are
5064s or less static and we have the rules
5066s that manage how they are how they're put
5069s together how the level is constructed
5070s how things are spawned and then we have
5073s the the actual map output so what's the
5076s result of the generative process and
5077s then we have the behaviors that the
5079s players have while playing those maps so
5083s we look at all four of those different
5084s layers when when we design levels for
5089s Deborah Daley alright so now that
5090s everyone catch up to what is basic you
5094s know level designers yeah in in dead by
5097s daylight can you explain to us what's
5099s what's a rework when it comes to Maps
5102s right so as I said there's a bunch of
5104s things in the rework category it's not
5107s the only category however we have a lot
5108s of different things we'll be doing two
5110s Maps but the major things that we'll be
5112s doing in the in the rework section are
5115s things like looking at palette loops for
5118s example careful with this word so the
5123s ideas that will be reworking palette
5125s loops now the idea of reworking palette
5127s loops is we see that there are some
5130s loops in the game such as the one on the
5132s Left where they're too valuable for
5137s survivors in a chase what it means is
5139s that essentially there's like more loop
5142s money in those loops and so what we want
5146s to do is we want to reduce those those
5152s loops which are too valuable which would
5155s where there's too much loop money and we
5157s want to reduce that overall so I can
5159s already hear it but why it's nothing
5162s survivors again right no not necessarily
5164s because basically the way that
5167s procedural map system works is that we
5169s have a pallet budget for example right
5173s and so what happens is we give the map a
5176s certain budget to place pallets so what
5179s we'll do is we won't be touching the
5180s budget but rather will be lowering the
5183s value of the the really high value loops
5186s in favor of smaller value loops and when
5189s we go to redistribute the that value
5193s across the map this is a very
5195s exaggerated version we see on the screen
5197s but on the left we see a few really high
5202s value loops and on the right what we're
5205s hoping to what we're aiming for actually
5207s is many more lower value loops but
5212s overall equivalent to what we had so
5214s what's the goal with those is the goal
5217s is to promote more skill based gameplay
5219s because with overly safe loops there
5223s isn't so much mind gaming that can
5225s happen so mind gaming looping this is
5227s like the central mechanic of the game so
5229s we want to promote that because it's
5231s really fun when you have you know those
5233s loops where you can kind of mind game
5235s and it's up to someone to make a mistake
5236s so we want we want to have a higher
5239s frequency interaction between the
5241s players and at the same time we want
5244s each of those interactions to be more
5245s meaningful so there's a lot to talk
5247s about loops here but is there anything
5249s else that's gonna come into the rework
5252s sure there's so much I can't even talk
5254s about all of it so for example I don't
5257s know hiding palettes hiding yeah hiding
5263s totems right so that's one of the really
5266s simple things to deal with it's just
5268s taking the time to go into each of the
5270s the the assets and and and make sure
5273s that they're hidden really well and I
5274s have to tell you I think I think the
5278s community has been seeing some of our
5279s kind of precursor to that work actually
5281s yes yeah yeah so we're going in that
5286s direction we're gonna keep going with
5287s that so okay so there was there was you
5292s know totems then you know fat shaming
5296s spots yeah so obviously well I'm gonna
5300s get into the details but yes spots where
5302s certain characters get stuck yeah we're
5304s working on that as well those it's an
5306s issue with edge objects etc but we're
5308s also looking at getting rid of hostage
5310s spots so okay we want to get into that
5313s too much either because we recently put
5315s these volumes into the basement stairs
5317s to prevent you from from getting taken
5320s hostage in those spots but we're also
5322s going to be looking at completely
5323s removing any infinite or abusable
5325s windows as well okay that's I think
5328s that's good yeah we're
5330s so if we're if we're going to the
5334s Refresh part refresh let's say that was
5337s your favorite
5338s so why it's my favorites the most
5340s exciting because you know as as you know
5343s any experience dead by daylight player
5345s at this point after three years you know
5347s some of you probably have like what six
5349s thousand hours or more like some crazy
5351s numbers that really huge amount of hours
5354s played in the game and one of the things
5356s that makes the game special is that
5358s there's a lot of unknowns the procedural
5361s system of the level
5362s well the procedural level design system
5365s is chin of the map updates is to add new
5370s tiles that you've never seen before so
5372s you'll have to learn those loops and
5373s learn how to play them and also and
5376s what's even more important is that we'll
5378s be adding layouts new layout variations
5382s essentially we'll be adding new maps
5384s into certain themes like for example
5387s Springwood as you see right now these
5391s are some some tiles that we're working
5393s on that will be introduced into the
5396s Springwood recipe and we'll be having
5399s four new maps in the Springwood themes
5402s so new layout yeah so I call them layout
5407s variations because they they'll still be
5409s using the preschool they'll be still
5411s using the houses as you can see here
5414s this is an example on the left it's the
5416s original map and on the right it's a new
5418s variation on the same map so no new
5421s assets but a new configuration for
5424s players to learn and and have fun in
5428s it's been keeping me on my toes so far
5429s that's the point
5432s so is that translated to other maps in
5435s our so map updates are a case by case
5439s scenario we'll be looking at which you
5443s know which will be the most priority
5445s going forward and making the decision on
5448s what needs to be implemented and went
5449s all right and two and three ours
5454s they're free lunch are we or are we just
5456s like starting the party for that new map
5459s you know it
5462s so so really same thing when we do map
5467s updates if we have new maps or even when
5469s we rerelease older maps we will give
5472s them a slight promotion

5874s really I played the game and then I got
5876s a call do you want to come to the studio

5882s when I started there it was me and eight
5885s amazing volunteers and now other year
5891s three anniversary we are we are there's
5897s three of us at the studio so shout out

6112s the devs so we have a meeting every day
6114s where we bring your voice to the devs
6117s and there's a lot of changes that happen
6119s because you voiced your concern so
6121s that's very important and sometimes some
6124s you know do voice it nicely some not
6127s don't however we see this as fashion so
6131s and to be fair we've said it before
6133s beable would say it again I think it's
6135s worth repeating this stopped being our
6138s game the moment we launched it because
6140s it's now as much the players and and
6143s everybody was enjoying it it we need to
6146s hear what they want this game to become
6148s because it's theirs too so let me take a

6169s streaming I've been streaming since
6172s October 2014 a little over four years
6175s that's forever it is and tomorrow is
6179s actually my two year anniversary of
6181s being full-time that's amazing

6194s and and what is dead by daylight been
6199s for your stream like what's the impact
6201s of that game on your streaming career
6203s well before that by daylight and I was
6206s kind of bouncing around from game to
6208s game felt kind of like I didn't have a
6209s home in the streaming world I was
6211s homeless a little bit like this guy
6212s right here I found out by daylight and
6216s instantly I was connected with everybody
6218s it became a home all the other content
6220s creators are so supportive of one
6221s another we play games together we host
6223s each other we share communities and
6226s through all that support and love my
6229s stream kind of grew and took off
6231s and I actually got nominated and became
6234s a finalist for twitch streamer of the
6235s year will take a little bit of credit
6242s but yeah and so it could have been many
6247s games I've always been into the spooky
6250s creepy just anything scary games movies
6255s you name it I had a scary movie
6256s collection when I was like 10 so just
6260s haven't drawn to the horror aspect of it
6264s and I don't know it came out I played it
6267s very casually and then we found angry
6270s bug streams the bug yes but we my
6277s friends and I started watching angry pug
6279s just his Friday night drinking streams
6281s having a good time and after like a year
6283s I just was like I want to try it let's
6286s see what happens
6287s and here we are a couple years later in
6290s Montreal yeah on a live stream and and
6296s what about you Vincent Vega tell us how
6300s long have you been doing this I started
6302s right after Kayla I was in November of
6304s 2014 s when I started on Twitch yeah
6306s yeah how's it been it's been awesome
6309s yeah absolutely awesome especially since
6311s death by daylight came along you know I
6314s I started streaming that when he came
6316s out I found it on the beta version on
6318s Twitch started watching it thought it
6320s was like a really cool unique game
6322s nothing out there was like it and
6324s finally I got the debate aqui played it
6326s for a couple hours I was hooked and I
6329s like to say Deb by daylight got me by
6330s the balls right out in the game like to
6332s say that yes I did
6334s I've been playing it streaming ever
6337s since and it's it served you well you
6339s have a very successful streaming career
6342s it has been a full time for a bit now
6344s yeah I got partnership three dead by
6346s daylight streaming it in January 2017
6349s and in April this year it will quit my
6352s full-time job and pursue streaming
6354s full-time and by daylight pretty much
6356s built everything I've success from
6359s that's amazing it's been also I want to
6361s ask also so both of you saw our roadmap
6365s what what's your favorite thing about
6367s the world map so far I was gonna say the
6370s charms but I've changed I've changed my
6373s mind the charms are still awesome
6374s anytime there's more customization in

6378s getting all of it but the Freddie rework

6418s the end of the day so we love our skins

6629s actually for our cosplayers this year

6635s of a cosplayer for dead by daylight
6636s right now well it's it's tough I mean
6639s you're going in the store you're trying
6641s to take pictures turn things while the
6643s characters moving it gets a little

6646s guessing at some of it mmm-hmm yeah so
6648s uh for our cosplayers we're gonna
6650s prepare this year
6652s cosplay guides so cosplay guides are hi
6656s renders t pauses you know like a very
6660s very information about fabrics and we
6668s are going to start in June with our most
6671s cosplay character so we're gonna start
6675s with the Huntress and we're gonna do
6677s during the year release all our original
6680s characters on their original set up for
6683s cosplayers to use to cosplay right
6687s obviously pretty much next we have the
6690s favorite artwork again there's way too
6693s many to choose from but this is the one
6695s that came out it's beautiful plus it's
6700s it's kind of appropriate because it's a
6702s gala so they could be I love the
6706s Huntress in this I love this so much
6708s that when I saw it I made it my phone
6709s background it's been like for like a
6711s year
6711s but the Huntress it's like it looks like
6714s it could be in the game cuz it still
6716s looks like her main outfit met me all of
6719s them even the pig it looks like it's
6721s just a slight tweet on what's existing
6723s to make it into something super precious
6728s and then we had the best DVD moment I
6732s mean again there were too many to choose
6733s from but I think Ella you pick the hub
6738s light event I did cuz it was just so
6740s well themed and put together I mean you
6743s had cinematics that added more lore into
6745s the game you had another event you know
6749s you had the plants that you went to that
6750s made the god-awful sounds he talked
6758s about ASMR with it so but no I was just
6761s really well put together I think that
6764s that event specifically is one of the
6766s inspiration behind the archives because
6768s it's different objectives and it's also
6770s telling the story I mean these little
6772s animatics that we did all of it was so
6775s well received
6777s decided it's a huge shout out to the
6779s sound guy who like did the sucking sound
6784s way to go it was like death by daily
6787s ASMR it was perfect wonderful I'm glad
6790s it take tickled your brain the right way
6792s and then you selected the dedicated

6800s dev team is really behind the game to
6803s put the resources behind it that really
6805s you know go that direction you have to

6808s connection hosting the game and all that

6895s have contests because obviously we have
6897s a huge cosplayer community we're gonna
6900s redo that video contest cuz I thought
6902s that was really fun last year's
6904s contestants were impressive the new line

6908s wants to party all the time that was
6911s probably the stuff I had so but the most
6917s exciting contest this year so the most
6921s exciting one and because it's something
6924s that the fan have been asking a lot so
6927s it's a contest where two people are
6930s gonna be selected to have their outfit

6937s they'll be able to design character
6939s costume well they're not gonna be able
6943s to submit okay though the fans they want
6948s this it's like you're like the biggest
6950s dream for 448 for it some are in the
6955s game alright in the game or if you know
6959s like other nerds just work for the game

6965s play sessions play with the devs are
6967s always super fun sessions we have
6969s raffles we have goodies in the goodies
6972s there's uh there's wallpapers like we in
6976s my image you might not have been seen
6978s before right and then we have the DVD
6982s exam which is uh which is coming from
6984s our Chinese could be doing manager Andy

7355s the entity got the chance to pick him so
7357s that's why he's not in the game that's
7358s what I want to take a second to talk
7365s about Ghostface and and how we brought
7368s him into the game I mean we was on our
7370s list since the beginning and when we try
7373s to bring in new licensed content to the
7377s game we tried to go for the original we
7379s try to go with what's the most iconic
7381s like we did for Leatherface like we did
7385s for Myers and so in this case we went
7387s for the ghost face mask the ghost face
7391s you know persona the ghost bit behind
7394s and the great thing with that was that
7396s because the license was for this super
7400s iconic mask it allowed us to create a
7403s character behind that was our own it
7405s allowed us to create our own version of
7408s who could be wearing that mask and be
7410s brought into the world of the entity
7412s which was amazing it's sort of the best
7416s of both worlds it's half of an original
7418s chapter and half of a licensed one so
7421s yeah what what was the inspiration for
7425s us behind this Dave oh I didn't
7427s introduce people I'm sorry so please let
7430s me take a second to introduce Matt who
7433s is our lead designer hello and so Dave
7448s yes tell me what was the inspiration
7450s behind it yeah well you I mean you said
7452s it goes faces is a legend and
7455s I remember three years ago about the
7458s time we did Myers we were actually
7460s already looking into designing this
7462s character like we really wanted to have
7464s this type of character in game and to
7465s have Ghostface so i'm super proud and
7467s happy that we actually happen today so
7469s the fantasy behind a character like
7472s ghost face is the element of surprise is
7475s the fact that he's super creepy that you
7477s want to be a stalker someone that
7479s follows this victim before this time
7481s this time he's having fun so that's why
7484s we wanted to recreate in the game for
7486s the killer so for the player that plays
7488s Ghost Face and for the survivor that
7490s that aspect of being like you know
7492s genuine stress when this killer is is
7495s trying to find you and kill you well
7497s that's the other thing also is that the
7498s stalker mechanic is one of the most
7503s appreciated mechanic we've created for
7505s absolutely I mean since we've seen how
7508s popular Myers is in creating these
7510s really cool moments of being surprised
7512s by that white mask we wanted to recreate
7514s this with another character and
7517s Ghostface fits perfectly perfectly as
7519s the white mask yeah the the the
7521s dispenses behind him so we we wanted to
7524s create this stalker but with a twist so
7527s he's definitely working differently than
7528s Myers that's for sure
7529s yeah so he's hopefully gonna really
7532s bring in some some intense stress and
7535s jump scares also like you said because
7538s we could create our own character like
7540s we imagine this character in that by
7542s daylight I mean we're super happy that
7544s he has this new home this new life in
7546s our game now so we wanted to create this
7549s persona that's unique to all of our
7550s other character characters so we went
7552s with something more humoristic like
7554s you're like we've seen in the trailer is
7557s having fun yeah of course it's still
7559s very grim he's a murderer but you know
7561s he's having fun with it
7562s yeah and it's important to show also in
7565s that video he is a murderer not a thief
7571s right so tell us a little bit about the
7577s character that we've created for this so
7579s yeah like they've mentioned before this
7581s this was a great opportunity for us to
7584s look at this iconic character and really
7587s try to find
7588s what made him a legend basically so I
7592s started with the mask in terms of story
7594s it's really interesting to look at a
7596s character who has a part of himself that
7600s remains covered or at least hidden so I
7604s wanted to create a persona that really
7606s was split yeah I would say there's two
7611s parts of him there's the one that is
7612s public that he shows during the day and
7614s that is Jed Olson that's the small-town
7618s journalist who covers a series of crime
7621s which are the murders that he's actually
7625s committing at night so this person is
7628s kind of more down to earth during the
7631s day he's more of an I would say who is
7638s predictable and who blends in the
7641s everyday but it's sort of like Peter
7644s Parker investigating spider-man right
7646s yeah I read the arc Peter Parker yeah
7650s definitely so at night he takes a
7652s different person I and that's when he
7654s reveals his true face it's when he puts
7656s the the mask on so he puts the mask on
7659s to reveal his true face exactly who he
7662s really is yeah that's that's beautiful
7665s and and I have to ask how did he end up
7669s in the realm of the entities so during
7674s the day he's a journalist who's covering
7675s the stories and at night he is this
7678s playful character was a bit narcissistic
7680s like they've mentioned before like
7686s you're the inspiration actually for the
7688s character of course joking but yeah
7692s actually what happens is that he is a
7695s playful persona at nights so that's when
7699s you know he releases the footage of
7702s himself breaking and entering a house
7704s that's the percent let the police a
7707s little - yeah exactly
7709s eventually the investigation starts
7711s pointing to him and that's when he skips
7713s down that's what he's done in the past
7715s as well and he was planning to visit a
7719s different
7719s and start over there but the NTT had
7722s other plans for him
7724s better opportunity for Ghostface he's a
7727s better place now I would think something
7729s well for him certainly I think he's
7731s probably one of our rare characters who
7734s if he had been given the choice might
7737s have actually decided interesting thing
7742s as well with the characters since we
7743s could reinvent we is we actually you
7747s know designed the whole outfit and part
7749s of this outfit has little floaty bits
7752s that shows his connection to the entity
7755s so this little Plus that it gets little
7758s magic it's not magic it's entity magic
7760s magic Matt would you like to tell us
7767s about the killer's power I would love to
7770s but first off gonna give a quick
7772s shout-out to Guillaume and the rest of
7774s the team that worked on guy's face
7776s brought this character to life they did
7778s an awesome job so respect people thank
7785s you so the power the power is called
7790s nightshroud and basically this is a true
7793s stealth ability and by that I mean that
7795s when you activated your terror radius
7798s shrinks to zero and it makes you much
7800s more difficult to be detected by
7801s survivors on top of this you're also
7804s moving at full speed so four point six
7807s meters a second okay oh yes I'm supposed
7809s to stop you right there and put a laser
7811s disclaimer whenever we talk numbers in
7815s these things it's very early in the
7817s process this is gonna be on the PTB soon
7820s I have a date later but even when it's
7823s on the PTB these are the values you're
7825s gonna get on day one but they're gonna
7827s change they're gonna be tweaked and then
7829s by the time it's released it's gonna be
7832s slightly different so this is what we
7834s have designed right now and it might
7836s change exact and thank of disclaimer so
7839s on top of that
7840s Ghostface also has a couple of other
7842s special abilities the first one being
7845s that he's able to crouch and this again
7847s makes him much more difficult to detect
7849s also if the if nightshroud is active
7853s he stopped submitting his red-stained so
7855s this is really handy for mind gaming
7857s around palettes around loops very cool
7859s Powell
7860s I'm sorry special ability very cool
7862s special ability he also has another
7865s ability where he can come up behind some
7868s cover lean out peek and stop survivors
7871s from there so again just a another
7874s really interesting way to kind of stay
7877s hidden but but be able to stalk your
7880s victims to know that there's still a
7884s sound around ghost face so you can be
7888s revealing that but just when he's moving
7891s exactly actually that's another
7893s important point to mention when your
7896s power is active you can stalk your
7898s victims very similar to Myers but in
7901s this case you're stalking them
7902s individually so once you've stopped a
7904s survivor for four seconds they become
7907s marked and that means that you've you've
7909s applied the exposed status effect which
7912s is bad which is very bad at leaves them
7914s very vulnerable for the next 20 seconds
7916s cool but so yeah that's it so these
7920s these stalking meters are per character
7924s exactly yeah yeah so there's one other
7927s interesting aspect with his power and
7930s that is that survivors can have a direct
7932s impact on the power and by that I mean
7935s that they can detect go his face by
7938s being within 32 meters so in a pretty
7940s close proximity and looking at him for
7943s at least one second this will break him
7946s out of his stealth ability so will
7948s cancel his power so he's the one that
7951s needs to play hide and seek exactly he
7953s needs to be aware of where the survivors
7954s are in the map otherwise again they're
7957s gonna cancel his power it will go back
7958s on cooldown
7959s it was he'll start emitting his regular
7962s terror radius his regular red stain and
7964s he won't be able to mark survivors
7967s anymore okay very cool yes stealth
7972s ability yeah
7973s that's gonna require a little bit of
7974s work but it gives you so many tools to
7977s actually have it directly exactly it's a
7980s it really sets up this interesting
7982s dynamic between survivors and killers
7984s cool does he also come with
7986s he does indeed how many he has three
7989s perks like all of our all the killers so
7996s close okay would you like to talk about
7999s I would love to so his first perk is
8001s called I'm always and it's a detection
8004s tracking perk so basically the way that
8008s it works is if is if a survivor performs
8011s rushed action outside of your terror
8014s radius their aura will be shown for the

8034s the second one call the second book is
8037s called thrilling tremors you did that on
8041s purpose for all of our French mouths
8043s right I did indeed is an obstruction
8051s book and basically that means that it's
8053s there to kind of help slow down the game
8056s a bit stop survivors from being able to
8059s do their objective how does it work well
8062s I'll tell you that let me get to it the
8066s way that it works is that when you down
8069s when you pick up a downed survivor or in
8072s this case when you interrupt a survivor
8074s it will block any generators that are
8077s not currently being worked on by another
8079s survivor for 16 seconds so as I said
8082s this will kind of help slow down the
8084s game a bit but on top of this it will
8086s also provide a bit of information so all
8090s of the generators that are affected by
8091s this perk will be highlighted in white
8093s for the duration and that means that the
8097s very observant killers will be able to
8099s see which generators may still have
8102s survivors working on tricky indeed this
8106s book also works on a cool-down

8117s Reapers hi man three folks DreamWorks
8120s darn yes what's the third one
8126s alright the third perk is called verted
8129s chase so this perk is an obsession park
8133s and the way that this works is that when
8136s the killer hooks the obsession they gain
8139s a token up to a maximum of two three or
8142s four tokens obviously based on the the
8145s perk to you and for each token that you
8148s have you will reduce your terror radius
8150s by four meters when you're in a chase on
8154s top of this it's also a dynamic
8157s obsession perk and by that I mean that
8160s your obsession will change throughout
8162s the match similar to how the reworked
8165s decisive strike works and so the way
8168s that that works is that when a survivor
8171s goes to unhook the original obsession
8174s they will then become the obsession so
8176s this sets up a new target for the the
8178s killer to want to hook so you can sort
8180s of chain them and you know be swapping
8183s survivors and and who you want to hook
8184s throughout the match that sounds like
8186s it's a pretty cool it's pretty cool
8188s indeed cool so when we make new powers
8192s new killers like this we tend to try to
8196s fill in gaps or bring in something
8199s that's different or shake the meta how
8202s do you think this killer makes the game
8204s better Dave well I mean a a stalker and
8210s a killer with stealth abilities like
8212s that is gonna bring great surprise
8215s moment
8216s jump scares you know these these great
8218s scenarios that we love to see in a game
8220s so for Survivor it's genuine stress that
8224s we love when we play that buy their life
8225s since they can't rely on the artbeat
8227s there's also that co-op component
8229s there's a lot choice for the survivor
8230s like will you kind of expose yourself to
8233s tell to everybody else that ghost face
8235s is there so that that aspect is also
8237s really interesting for the killer
8238s there's a lot of different abilities
8240s with Ghost Face the way we move the we
8242s can you know keep crouched go and sell
8245s stock there's a lot of option there's a
8246s lot of depth to that character so that's
8249s gonna be really interesting
8250s well on top of that just the fact that
8252s we're bringing Ghostface that's pretty
8254s good that's pretty cool yeah so I think
8258s that wraps it up for our chapter panel I
8261s want to say that everybody out there who
8264s likes to go on our ptb this one is gonna
8266s be on June 4th so they're gonna be able
8269s to get their grubby little hand or so on
8271s the killer and try it and enjoy it and
