NAEDOCYTES

Let me be clear here: I HATE Naedocytes.  I hate them with every fiber of my being.  If there were one species I could wipe off the face of the galaxy it would be… well the leaf lovers, but SECOND ON THAT LIST WOULD BE NAEDOCYTES!  Naedocytes are proof that there are malicious gods out there.  In fact, were I a less scholarly man, I’d assume that their entire reason for existence is to make life miserable.  Good guts, I don’t need electric shock therapy, I got enough of that in my college days, thank you very much!  I swear, if I ever get my hands on that sapient lump of cow-pats, Schroeder, I’ll…

Where was I?  Ah, right, Naedocytes.  So, nothing especially fancy about these creatures in terms of their ecology.  I’m not entirely certain how to classify them, but they’re a species with a very easy to track life cycle.  They begin as Hatchlings, which are primarily detritivores, though probably prey on small animals or swarm like piranhas to eat larger prey.  Shockers are slightly more mature versions, though their electrical abilities clearly make swarming their primary predation method.  Then, once they have eaten enough food, they metamorphose into Cave Cruisers, which appear to eat microscopic animals by catching them like jellyfish or, failing that, filter feeding.  Then, once they’ve eaten enough, they undergo one more transformation into the Naedocyte Breeder, at which point I suspect they don’t actually eat, but rather breed until death.  The Breeders are probably hermaphrodites, and the whale-like calls we hear them make are mating calls to summon other Breeders into their area.

Frankly, they’re a pretty simplistic species, if one with a fairly radical life cycle.  However, I have an active bounty up for live Shockers or any Naedocyte fossils that might indicate how they evolved.  If I can figure out how to replicate that electrical ability, it will be worth a fortune!  Even better if I can figure it out before Schroeder.  Let’s see you steal my research from within a base on Hoxxes, you rancid hunk of spam!

Hmm?  Oh, for the common dwarf?  Just kill any and all Breeders and Cave Cruisers you come across.  And kill the little bastards, but I’m sure you already do that.
