Thinking of trying this game out

I got this game a few years ago from PS Plus and never really knew what it was. Recently, there's a lot of talk of terrible live service games and DRG is brought up as a good example. So I want to try it out. But if I do I'm going for the platinum trophy which is something like 300 hours.
So I'm wondering about the game. What's the progression like? What's the endgame like? Are there active discords for it? Would I be able to match up to progress through the trophies?
