I have a feeling this might get removed, but I wholeheartedly think it's important to discuss in order to give Deep Rock the healthiest future it can get.

Since the dev stream last week that revealed some features for season 5 and outlined the future of the game, I've seen lots of posts on here applauding GSG, building up hype, and generally displaying gratitude and excitement for the upcoming season. I think this is great. Personally, I'm pumped for the new mission type, the QOL updates, and the new mission modifiers. I'll play season 5 as soon as I can.

That said, something disturbing that I've seen accompanying this hype is a sense of 'forced' positivity. It seems everyone has to be excited for the future update. I won't link anything or mention any specific examples, but I've seen multiple posts/comments on this subreddit expressing concern for the future of the game or discontent with the current state of it and the authors get mass downvoted and ridiculed in the replies. As I've said, I'm looking forward to season 5 and the fresh content it will bring, but do people really think that it's unreasonable to be dismayed at what we saw in the dev stream? I for one was concerned by the fact that there was zero gameplay footage and the vague wording implied (to me) that a lot was left to be finished. On top of that, GSG confirmed that season 6 might not come until 2026, seeing as they won't even begin working on it until Rogue Core is in EA (which could be as late as December 2025).

I get it, Deep Rock Galactic is an awesome game. I love it. It's my favourite multiplayer game bar none, and I will always be grateful to GSG for the fantastic experiences I've been able to have playing it. However, I think it's not only entirely fair for people to be skeptical for the future of the game, but I think it's entirely their right and I don't think they should be chastised for showing genuine worry for a game they love. It appears that there's a either a majority of people or a very vocal minority (on this subreddit particularly) who think that we should just shut up and be happy with what we are getting and have faith in Ghost Ship Games. We should assume that Rogue Core is going to be phenomenal, we should be understanding that DRG is being pushed to the side for its development, we should be content with one major update every one or two years. I am worried that if the lack of new content doesn't kill the game over the next couple years, this toxic positivity that permeates this subreddit and other online spaces will.

I hope this post doesn't come across as whiny or self-victimising in any way. I cannot say in words how much I adore Deep Rock Galactic and how much I admire GSG for the way they've crafted their game and interacted with the community over the years, but I think the people on this subreddit should chill out a bit and be okay with people being disappointed that their favourite online multiplayer game might not get a single major update for two years. I am keen to see GSG prove my fears wrong and show that they can continue showing DRG ample love while working on other projects, but for the time being I think it's hard to not feel a little sad about the future.

A note on the "zero gameplay footage": We're keeping some stuff under wraps, and will be teasing it leading up to the release. Can't show it all on day 1, you know.

Good post, OP. Thank you.

Everyone here at GSG are extremely grateful for our community's ability to plainly tell us what they like and what they don't like in a civilized manner. No valid constructive criticism delivered in a sound manner should ever be met with negativity from the community. We're all human at GSG and are more than capable of making mistakes. Sometimes we get a bullseye, sometimes we don't - and we rely on our community for that candid feedback. Your feedback is literally helping us make the game better.

In short: Always speak your mind, whether positive or negative - we appreciate it greatly, so long as you keep it civil. Don't hate on others for disagreeing with your own personal take. Keep an open mind and don't assume your personal opinion is The One Valid Truth. Don't feel that any and all criticism of the game is an attack on it, but at the same time don't negate all positivity as toxic either. As with all things, it's all spectrums, people, and I've seen examples of both here on Reddit and elsewhere.

In the end, we're pretty much all interested in DRG being the best it can be. We do so best by working together.

Rock and Stone, Miners.
