[2019] Driller can melt platforms?

I recently discovered that the Engineer's platforms have the same properties as the Glacial Strata environment where they dissipate on contact (I added it to the wiki btw). You can try it yourself. Haven't really tested it yet but I know for one it's not a hidden variable for the cushion mod as I tried it on both types of platforms.

Point being is its unclear why they melt. Is it a hidden feature added at one point, is it a bug related to implementing ice platforms, or am I just dumb and everyone knows this? ...t-that they melt, that everyone knows they melt, not that I'm dum-- just talk about it.
