From what I understand they proc gen the maps, but then add modifiers manually and then play the whole thing to make sure it's balanced. But I could be wrong

It’s not curated. It’s a seed generated at every refresh. We don’t test or curate anything.
... although before we introduced them, I was hoping we could get a look 24h in advance so I could tease it.
Yikes! Which hazard level was that? Relatedly, does the cave leave cluster modifier scale with haz levels?
It’s a Deep Dive.
Maybe some combinations of affixes could be blacklisted and force the seed to roll again? That shield disruption + point extraction + magma core for the Elite was absolutely brutal. We managed to get to fueling before a bulk detonator decided to join and we got overran after being flushed out of our defensive position :(
I'm thinking the only sane way to possibly beat that would be to dig a shelter directly under the fuel link, plug the entrance, and dig out an exit when ready and have someone sprint for the drop pod. Possibly even with last stand.
No plans to blacklist combinations that are possible in a normal game. If anything, you should be set with a bunch of nitra from the stage before.
So do you do anything with them? I always thought that you guys generated lots of maps and looked for whichever ones would be most engaging or difficult.
No, they generate after a slightly different ruleset, but we do not touch them manually at any point.
Oh awesome, thank you for replying. I was under the impression you seed them then tweak before release. They feel very deliberate sometimes, but I guess that's just the ghost(ship) in the machine :P
Any repetitions or particularly hard combinations are purely random.
