Have the devs talked about it at all? I've got a couple friends that mainly play on the Xbox that I would love to play with. And in sure alot of people all over would love a cross platform option.

Crossplay is possible to do, but it's not trivial in neither logistics nor maintenance, and it also has a running cost that's not to be ignored.
