I've played some roguelikes before, my main experience being Vampire Survivors, and I don't know that I have had my ass kicked so hard before by a game. Unfortunately, the game I feel has a few flaws that I think makes losing a little bit frustrating. Outside of these, the game is pretty addicting and makes you want to play more.

  1. Mining materials is way too slow in the beginning. I know that the game intends for you to get materials to level it up over time to make it more manageable, but I fond getting objectives and gold tougher than it aught to be and I fond myself beong swarmed before I even get a chance to really mine anything. Coming back around to it often feels impossible too as enemies will have completely flooded the map by the time you come back.

  2. Enemies feel really bullet spongy. Honestly if not for the exploding glyphids, you wouldn't be able to kill much of anything. Even with upgraded gear, getting backed into a corner is essentially death since all the enemies will soak up any damage you've got and there is always another glyphid right behind them.

  3. Weapon AI.. is all over the place. Half the time it hits what I want, other times it shoots at every little stray glyphid that isn't part of the larger horde. I want to say this one is a nitpick but sometimes when I see my dwarf unload to boomstick shots into 3 small glyphids in front of me as opposed to the massive horde that's one shot away from a detonating glyphid lighting the whole sh*t up.. it drives me nuts. Don't even get me started on grenades!

  4. Lastly.. waves getting stronger as you play them. I see what they were going for, make sure the player doesn't over level on one stage and farm until they can annihilate the stage 5 boss. I get it. But honestly there being such tight stage progression and the fact that you only have 30 seconds after beating the boss that will innevitable die to a stray bullet of yours.. do we really need another compounding difficulty spike on top of that? The game rushes you through waves. Too fast even. Why make them harder on top of that?

Want to cap this off by saying I really like what's going on with this game overall. I can see the game getting more bearable later on as you've upgraded your gear. Locking the classes was.. a choice. But solid progression is there and I feel motivated (and too addicted to stop) to keep playing. Hope this game has a long life. Rock and stone!

It's supposed to be harder in the beginning, so your priority should be getting your initial weapons to level 12, because that will unlock overclocks for them in future runs, and that is a game changer. Once you get a hang of that and get the upgrades you buy with minerals, it should be a lot smoother.

That said, the game just launched into Early Access, so changes will inevitably happen.
