The vast majority of updates do not require a new world. Some come with changes to world generation in the wake of new features, but the world can usually be migrated and continued to be used without issues - it just won't have the changes to world generation as the world is determined when created. For the added resources in the last update we also added those resources as side products receivable from other recipes making a new world unnecessary, but they alternatively also can be spawned if the world is to be kept.

As was already mentioned we intend to continue development of Eco indefinitely and that may always come with new features requiring changes to world generation, including after Early Access. That is not uncommon, many single player focused games do that as well and mark older savegames in the loading list as incompatible and use at your own risk. Eco also offers the ability to stay on a older version through Steam Betas or keeping the older download from play.eco if you don't want to be bothered by Updates. Since we replaced our backend systems in Update 11 and introduced offline mode this will be available for all future versions to come, though due to Steam branch restrictions only a limited number of older versions is available there, play.eco will have them all, though.
