429s Loop games I'm working here as a lead
432s game designer and today we are going
435s to get involved a little bit into some
438s of the things that we're working on
440s towards
441s 10.3 now that we have 10.2 out of the
444s way um and and you know sounds like it's
448s hurdles but it's
451s yeah hang on give me
455s a I think it's just me being a bit
460s quiet

469s so uh
471s 10.3 now that we got 10.2 out um we have
475s a lot of exciting things that we talked
477s about a little bit before
480s yes it's a cat in the background
484s um there are plurals
489s um hopefully they'll play nice they tend
492s to be rather active just around the time
495s for the streams so they can really
497s participate as
499s well um but yeah um 10.3 coming up um
504s we've talked a bit about maintenance in
506s the last Stream So if you haven't
507s watched that hop in on YouTube it should
510s out there
511s um and we're going to talk about the
514s next kind of big big impact field
518s for uh the general player
520s experience and an area where we've we we
526s kind of skirt it around but we've always
529s kind eyed it and really wanted to redo
533s the general initial experience coming
535s into Eco so it's you know it's going to
537s be less impactful um in in terms of the
540s new block set for older players that are
543s used to the game that are quick in the
544s start they kind of speed past that
546s initial
547s threshold um but it's more in the
551s general focus towards players coming
554s into the game that are new to the game
556s entirely um they might be new to the
558s genre they might be new to just Eco um
561s and and its
563s peculiarities but we wanted to have a
566s more smoother transition in from you
568s start out in the world you you pop out
571s you you create your avatar and you kind
572s of get going you start collecting
574s resources and we've always felt
577s that the initial step from starting out
580s to now you have a house you can build a
582s store and you can start interacting with
584s people and you can start doing stuff has
587s always been kind of a big
589s step where we wanted it to be more of a
591s smoother
593s experience um
596s and the
598s um the main intent with this block set
602s Edition is to kind of Shuffle things
603s around in that early
606s sense um just connecting to the server
609s right now so bear with me
611s here um but yeah so you know we there's
616s a couple of things that led to a new
618s Block Set being added rather than just
620s shuffling things around one of them is
623s we wanted uh masonry as well as we
626s wanted logging with its H logs and its
628s mortared Stone to actually be tied to
631s those professions we didn't want to have
634s them um you know right now everyone can
637s make uh H logs and everyone can make
640s Mort Stone but there wasn't kind of a
641s clear this is this is where you kind of
645s get pushed
646s into it's a bit of here do a little bit
649s of of Frankenstein building use a bit of
653s resources that you have available to you
655s but the issue with that tended to be
658s people one didn't really realize that
662s instead of you know making hun logs on a
664s carpentry table as soon as you've had
666s some sort of structure which allowed you
667s to use the modules which reduces
671s costs um and it also had the issue of
674s people didn't realize that they weren't
675s getting proper skill benefits and and
678s experience from making un logs as a
680s logger on a workbench rather than a
682s carpentry table so there's a lot of
685s confusion
686s for just in general getting into the
688s game um and it was something that we we
691s really wanted to kind of reduce
696s um and yeah we could just dump the cost
699s of that initial recipe but then you kind
701s of have that triple effect
703s of that profession's main export
706s material suddenly gets super cheap and
708s you needed to sell a gazillion of it to
712s make any kind of profit back on it
714s versus um the later tiers where the
717s where you have hard limits on only you
720s and this profession can make it rather
722s than everyone can make it at leisure
724s just a bit more
726s costly and they are they are Maring now
729s so we'll see how much the cats are
730s interceding in the background
734s here um but yeah so let's just we can
739s Shuffle
743s around there we
745s go let me just pull up the shats again
752s uh yeah
754s so this new block which is the
757s Adobe is intended to fill the role in
760s that early game so all the tiers have
762s been bumped up for the existing block
764s sets so H logs and mortared stone is
768s tier two Lumber um glass and bricks are
771s pushed up to tier three and so on so
773s forth so you're looking at tier one to
775s five now with the block
778s sets um and
780s and I think we just do that just
783s maximize
790s it so this is where and and what we're
795s looking at for the new block
797s set and we'll go over a few of the block
800s forms and kind of build something um
803s together here as well kind of revolving
805s over it um so one of the one of the
808s big uh the big changes with this block
811s set is that we're moving
813s away uh we're moving away from a lot of
817s Automation in terms of the block
820s Builder um so you have a lot more direct
823s building control for the block
827s pieces um and hopefully it's not going
829s to cause too much of an inconvenience
833s for people that you know may not be as
837s super into the building part of the game
839s but more of a general you know trading
842s around socializing or or doing whatnot
844s and they just want a quick house
847s um but it is a bit of an experiment from
851s the art team they've really gone crazy
853s in terms
854s of where how and and kind of how these
857s be how these pieces are kind of
860s attaching to each other um there are a
862s few things that are still you know this
864s is work in progress uh it's still being
866s polished and and kind of
868s tweaked um so there's a few things in
870s here that is might look a little bit
873s wonky in terms of their connectivity so
876s kind of transition over out to the wall
879s pieces uh but yeah so this is how it's
881s looking when it's being placed and just
884s as a as an entity
888s thing uh we got Windows which are
891s embedded on the inside with some wood
894s pieces and we also have the interior
897s Roofing of it
902s um
904s and we got some some new more crudely
907s looking ladder if I can manage to climb
910s up a ladder which is always a difficult
914s thing and then we have some other new
916s torches as well
925s coming um did you make the stack and the
928s Torches bigger having them only one
929s stack is is kind of no now um the
931s general like the the stack sizes and
933s limitations for a lot of the fuel types
935s is being looked at um and it's a bit of
939s a subject here as well because I want to
941s I want to kind of shift over um housing
944s balance in
949s general this preview is great but I
951s think we need to discuss your start menu
953s being on the top of your
955s monitor uh yeah I've I've heard some
957s opinions on that

964s uh yes at the moment they're not set up
967s as as general fuel sources I can't unsee
970s that now um yeah well

984s we'll the U cats are causing Havoc um so
988s will it burn a lot of dirt dirt well
990s that's kind of a subject for
992s debate um because I haven't entirely
995s decided on the crafting material for
999s it um as one of the things is I kind of
1002s want to bake it into the the initial
1005s starting like tool interaction
1009s repairs
1011s um and the repairability and and the
1013s rabbit is not making the hair is not
1016s making great display of our animal
1019s pathing at the moment
1022s um but yeah so there's there's a couple
1024s of kind of criterias I had for the
1026s recipe for it and it's it's one I kind
1028s of want it to involve clay um partially
1032s because it is a good way to kind of
1035s teach people about where materials can
1037s be found if we tie it into the
1039s tutorial
1041s um so the the four kind of sourced
1043s materials that I'm looking at is wood
1046s like plain wood
1049s um clay or dirt and plant fiber like
1053s General like grass matter
1057s basically
1058s um and then we got some some lighting
1061s adjustment as
1065s well there we go um but yeah so you know
1068s there there's a couple of things here in
1070s there that kind of makes it a bit
1072s complicated in terms of recipe wise
1075s um because you are looking at like the
1079s desert for example where we don't have
1081s Clay we only have
1083s dirt and it's also lacking severely in
1085s logs as well and from a general aerial
1089s zoning
1091s perspective I'm not completely hating
1095s the idea of and and I also had an
1098s interesting map
1100s here um I'm also not hating the idea
1104s of making people kind of not initially
1109s flock to the desert in the same
1113s way but making it slightly more
1116s difficult to settle in areas that are
1118s not
1119s necessarily uh you know really that
1125s habitable um yeah using using filler um
1130s plant like matter filler yeah that's
1132s probably what I was what what I'll end
1134s up
1136s doing uh the dwarfs can have the desert
1138s we see natives start in Lush forested
1143s regions um yeah know so you know it's
1146s it's part of a since it's the the goal
1149s is to help out and and make it easier to
1151s transition into the game and get going
1152s quicker the general notion is that you I
1155s want to have resources related
1157s to
1159s um it
1161s needing uh resources that are generally
1164s acquired early on very quickly based on
1168s just interacting with the world around
1169s you so dirt tends to be a big thing
1172s because you you usually poke it around a
1174s lot of dirt because you're terraforming
1175s you're making roads you're kind of
1176s shuffling things
1179s around
1180s um and natural fibers as a tag is a
1184s great idea because then people can just
1187s as as Roto points out people can just
1188s use pulp and fiber or or whichever
1190s they're kind of collecting with it be it
1192s you know plant fiber or wood pulp and so
1196s on um but I also don't want the recipe
1199s to be too complex
1202s because um we don't want to have like a
1205s starter block that is more advanced in
1207s terms of ingredient types than some of
1209s the later
1211s tiar um which is also why human logs is
1214s getting another
1216s ingredient uh which I do not know if I
1219s added it to the recipe in
1226s here no did I add it on the carpentry
1228s bench
1234s my
1239s tab no it's on it's on in my other Tory
1243s um but yeah so the Hun logs is going to
1246s get dowel rods um as a new ingredient so
1249s they'll you know they'll be
1251s self-produced um it just kind of like a
1254s a small step in um aing a bit in the
1257s cost relation balance to it
1260s it um and it's also going to be a source
1263s can I would scrap generation later for
1265s another
1268s update
1269s um but yeah so with this initial block
1273s being changed out we can do a whole
1275s bunch of things one we can make it as
1277s cheap as we want regardless of
1280s professions which means we can have you
1282s know you can build the general goal of
1285s it is to be able to kind of join us
1289s server uh you place down your tent your
1292s your campsite and whatnot and then you
1295s just collect a bit of material around
1297s you and you can have your house and your
1299s initial store within like the first hour
1302s and a
1304s half um instead
1307s of having
1310s to um kind of trug along and just cut
1314s down half a forest to be able to build a
1316s little un house so you're more likely to
1319s get more materials out of it to kind of
1320s get get going
1323s quicker
1327s um I'd only ask you create more than
1329s just one block with a block of dirt and
1330s CLE yeah you you're you're looking at
1332s like two or four blocks
1338s per um it's it's going to be a fairly
1341s quick recipe I'm trying to keep the
1343s block crafting times a bit uniform
1346s across it but it's going to be cheap
1348s enough so it's going to going of feel
1349s like it's really quick um it's also your
1352s general kind of TR like Transportation
1356s into um research and and so on as well
1360s because you're going to be looking at
1362s this being like your initial research
1364s Point um it's required for to house a
1368s lot of the earlier tier
1370s Machinery um so the goal is generally
1373s just a smoother transition into the game
1376s um and kind of get that feeling of hey
1377s I'm making progress I'm getting stuff
1379s done um and just you
1382s know um just get people more engaged
1385s earlier
1387s on um so I'm hoping it'll it'll make
1392s that happen um it's been on the task to
1395s get this block set in for quite a while
1397s now but we're really really stoked to
1399s finally have it in and think I'm going
1401s to see if the Adobe door
1404s works cuz I was having some uh oh look
1408s at that it it actually
1409s it actually got placed on the right side
1412s but the
1414s uh the interaction points of it is way
1417s up there I think
1419s so didn't really have time to to tweak
1421s and make sure that that went in the way
1423s it's going in um but you get the um view
1427s on
1428s it um how about faster construction
1431s deconstruction animations and further
1433s reach when building with lower tier
1434s blocks um different reach based on
1439s tool is probably not going to
1443s happen um however we are looking
1446s at if we wanted to have
1450s some more sophisticated end end tier
1455s type
1456s Hammer
1458s interaction
1460s um that might be having longer reach or
1464s so
1465s on um so that's not an
1472s possibility um but yes so here you got
1474s the Adobe door with with a little nice
1477s wooden fitting on
1480s it um ignore the no Collision because
1482s it's you know work in
1485s progress um and then as some of the
1488s people pointed out here we've got a
1491s wallmounted torch
1494s stand uh which works the same way as the
1496s painting
1500s we do this we grab this and as you see
1503s here it is being placed midair but it
1506s works the same way as the general
1508s painting frames is so it'll snap to
1510s whatever is in the
1512s background so it'll fit you know walls
1515s and and pokes and so on so
1522s forth uh would love to be able to pick
1525s up more than one block at the time yeah
1527s we're there there is is some old stuff
1530s related
1533s to
1535s um to the notion of being able to put
1539s just grab multiple things like a
1541s backpack
1542s replacement is that allow that gives you
1545s more carry slots rather than backpack
1548s slots um so there's a few there's a few
1551s ideas that are rumaging around in terms
1553s of equipment that
1555s could um change some of this out a
1558s little bit
1560s um but that's still on kind of planning
1562s board and and seeing over what we want
1564s how far we want to take it and
1566s in in what capacity we wanted in
1572s um so you know stay tuned for that it's
1575s a lot of fun things coming and it's a
1578s lot of crazy things we're working
1580s on um can we get that road slope shape
1584s block integrated into all of the
1585s building blocks
1590s um uh adite could
1593s you elaborate on that a little bit
1596s because I'm not really sure what
1599s we're you're talking about when you
1601s place like a a type a ramp and drag it
1604s along and you get all the ramps up to
1607s you kind of scale up
1617s or would be we need to kind of start
1619s with no backpack or smaller rock I can
1628s buy I mean just just like just longer
1631s sloped
1633s blocks so you have like a four four line
1637s long
1638s thing uh yeah let's go through this
1641s ghost
1644s thing and take a look at just level area
1648s a
1653s bit let's just do that so we can get
1657s some cheeky around here uh time noon
1661s keep the daylight
1663s on uh yeah so for Block forms in
1668s this
1672s um freaking climbing
1675s cats um you got your base
1679s Cube which is plain all Cube and then
1683s you have your floor type which has that
1685s kind of walked in
1688s nudged um worn out feel to
1693s it and then we get to the crazy thing so
1696s as I was saying we
1698s are kind of moving away a little bit
1700s with this block set to be less
1704s automatic
1706s which hopefully goes well with a lot of
1709s people I think a lot of the the creative
1711s Builders really like to have more
1712s control over how their blocks are
1714s rotating back and forth and also
1716s rotating in maybe maybe a manner that we
1719s don't
1721s anticipate um so you are having all of
1724s these are manually rotatable things so
1728s they're not Auto snapping they will kind
1730s of meld in with some things that are of
1733s the same type so for example uh the the
1738s wall piece for example has that bent in
1740s corner when it's standing alone but you
1742s can stack it and it Blends in and merges
1744s with uh identical things stacked on top
1746s of
1748s it but it does allow you to
1751s do this because it is completely Ro
1754s manually
1761s rotated uh so with that you have so this
1764s this is kind of building more towards
1766s what you saw with the docks uh with the
1768s dock block forms being added to for the
1770s h log
1772s Set uh so you have some end pieces or
1775s some some solo pieces I should say um so
1778s these
1780s are kind of pillar
1782s is um they're rounded in both
1785s sides and then you have the actual end
1788s piece here that connects
1790s to the middle section that we
1795s had um and as you can see here you still
1799s have that sharp edge from that middle
1801s section but it does merge in top
1805s wordss um based on the type it is so you
1808s know walls walls kind of flipping around
1811s and this is something that we are
1812s looking at kind of converting and
1814s redoing for some of the old block sets
1816s as well to give more direct
1820s control
1821s um with it because the the
1824s automatic kind of
1826s Builder um is really really complicated
1831s to set up and how it works with the
1834s block
1835s sets um and it's kind of about a lot of
1838s overhead as well so it it is
1840s reducing
1842s significantly um on the workload side of
1846s things
1851s uh but on speaking of speaking of
1854s toggling
1856s option uh we do have a new a new little
1860s thing um in the middle of this because I
1863s completely forgot that it's actually
1864s merged
1866s already uh we have this thing so this
1869s allows you to disable enable building
1873s those diagonal pieces from what you're
1876s looking
1879s at so when you're when you're just
1882s generally building and this is what's
1883s going to be the default option it's
1885s going to be disabled by default you you
1887s have to enable it if you want it um the
1891s reason for that is the general goal of
1893s being a bit more
1895s simpler to build in a little less
1899s skiddish
1902s um uh floating point for how the block
1905s is detecting where you kind of want to
1907s place
1909s it uh so by default that thing is
1911s disabled just to give you a little bit
1913s more
1914s control starting out kind of getting
1916s used to the system and then you can
1918s enable it if you want to go there
1920s because I know a lot of the a lot of the
1921s more quicker people on building likes
1924s that extra control to be able to play
1926s stuff diagonally straight away as
1929s well but it makes it makes this piece
1933s here being a little bit finicky
1935s on where you're mousing over and kind of
1938s where you want to place it um so instead
1941s we opted to make this into some more
1944s configs
1947s so um
1949s as you're getting to the side left and
1950s right it kind of sh it kind of shuffles
1952s into those sides as instead so hopefully
1956s giving you a little bit more
1958s control while still keeping it um
1961s keeping those Advanced controls
1963s available for people that do enjoy and
1966s um can use them um I like them for for
1969s like stair buildings and and diagonal
1971s stuff
1973s but
1975s um it's a nice thing to have disabled
1977s unless you can cannot opt to do that
1980s so just generally nice with more options
1985s um I
1987s think you got your your general wall
1990s pieces and then you have
1992s the uh and then you got T intersections
1995s you've got uh Crossroads for them or X
1998s intersections as well as the corner
2000s pieces um and they're you know they are
2003s working and looking pretty much what you
2006s expect out of them
2010s uh which just open-ended Corners to
2012s allow you to build walls in whichever
2014s direction you kind of want to do with
2019s them um and then we have the windows as
2022s you saw they
2024s have a different Outlook from the inside
2027s versus outside which is new as
2029s well so you have an external View and an
2032s internal view
2034s where uh dump some of these um where
2038s they're reinforced and having a
2039s different look completely from the
2041s inside versus out which is something
2042s that hasn't really been done on any of
2044s the other block sets because it doesn't
2047s really make sense
2049s for
2051s um glass because glass panels are kind
2055s of same
2058s same um so it's a it's a little bit of a
2061s new
2062s feel neat little look on
2064s it um and then you have the fence blocks
2067s that you you saw on the ground there as
2069s well as the top
2072s side and they follow the same kind of
2074s rules and restrictions as the other ones
2075s you've got the um you got the plain one
2079s which is open-ended on both sides you
2081s have the end piece here that is
2085s a kind of nudged over into an adobe
2088s bigger kind of end section you also have
2091s a middle section block which adds these
2093s in the stn
2096s middle um and then you also have the
2098s intersection for
2100s them um and on the Adobe set now
2104s for this is we just build a little house
2107s here add then change out the
2112s line we do this just to kind of give us
2115s a little bit of a
2117s one uh yeah this will this is going to
2120s be your your tier one non-skilled
2123s starter block
2129s is this Toby art um this is actually um
2135s robs so it is one of the one of the
2138s other Australians in our completely
2140s Australian art
2142s team uh but no it it's uh it's Robert he
2146s is mainly doing well he does most of our
2150s 2D assets um he does a whole bunch
2154s of uh 3D stuff as well and he's also the
2157s one doing the larger majority of all the
2160s concept art as
2162s well um and he's usually the one that
2165s that gets assigned with crazy Block Set
2167s changes and and things
2170s and absolutely phenomenal at it as
2174s well um so the
2178s roofs is I don't know maybe someone
2181s could you know Chuck in what
2184s the opinions and thoughts here um on
2188s General Roofing if you like being able
2190s to just have like a a
2192s flat um automatic roof Builder as is on
2196s the other
2199s blocks um you like just the kind
2204s of square stuff so this is working
2207s similar to the ground things and and the
2210s en walls you have very very a lot more
2213s rigid control over
2216s it um
2219s and you
2221s have same thing here like you have the
2223s intersections which is the flat one it's
2225s lighter on top um you have the T
2229s intersection so in this case if we do
2233s build a piece up here actually let's use
2235s the point one uh so we have that one and
2239s then we'll use the sides not matter
2241s which way you have them rotated they'll
2244s look the
2245s same externally and internally
2251s and the middle section is kind of
2252s intended for you to be able to do things
2255s like uh a more rigid beam over and
2259s crossover and we can add
2263s that we do that we just have that
2267s external thing out
2272s there and then we can just have that
2275s corner piece there
2278s so the corner piece is as expected
2280s that's doing the angle 90 degree
2283s turn versus
2285s that the end piece you have here which
2288s is a tile that just is that rounded it
2291s doesn't have kind of a continuation so
2294s that's neat for things where you want to
2297s have like a balcony externally upwards
2300s or uh like an external thing let
2303s me let me do one of those
2314s uh so for the middle filler we have the
2317s roof fill block
2319s type and that thing is a floating beam
2325s thing lack of a better word so this this
2329s thing matches up and lines up with all
2331s of the different variations of roof
2333s types and it's basically just a little
2336s kind of wood beam fill
2339s that connects up and it's a little bit
2346s thinner um and as I said like this block
2349s set gives you a lot more creative
2351s control than
2355s previously and I'm hoping that everyone
2358s is going to get a blast out of using
2361s these in completely completely unrelated
2363s ways that we weren't anticipating
2365s initially like I've seen some some I've
2366s seen some crazy of the dock block
2369s sets um so that's been that's been a
2372s blast to see people using them in in
2374s mines or as Roofing or or General
2377s Flooring and and different elevations
2379s and
2380s whatnot um so I'm hoping people are
2382s going to have the same crazy crazy
2385s creativity flow with these as well um
2387s especially for decorations and and kind
2389s of external
2393s things
2395s um yeah there's the the full stacked
2398s placeable
2404s one uh these will be colorable too yeah
2407s everything and everything any anything
2409s and everything uh Mike has gotten all
2413s the tools kind of rigged up and sorted
2416s so now we're looking at interaction
2418s speeds and animation
2422s Cycles
2424s um so we might be able to do the the
2427s painting stuff on the next stream we'll
2431s see maybe we're
2434s lucky uh no it's there's been a lot of
2437s improvements to that system and it it is
2440s getting fairly mature so we might be
2442s able to show that off next
2444s time um and the stairs is also getting
2447s the same kind
2451s of uh
2461s for you're just going to be able you're
2463s just going to see them yeah so the
2465s stairs is running into the same thing
2467s you have full kind of autonomous control
2469s over Direction
2472s facing um different angles of
2476s them
2478s and said we're hoping to kind of move
2481s into more direct control for
2486s uh two SU these
2489s things uh people use that as cash
2492s decoration yeah I I like them they're
2495s they're they are very
2498s nice you got solo
2502s stairs and then you have metal block in
2505s between them so that the difference
2507s there is you don't have there's supposed
2509s to be a difference in them they one of
2511s them yeah one of them merges and the
2513s other one doesn't merge so that thing
2515s stays separate as an entity
2537s there we
2540s go um so yeah some interesting block
2544s forms I'm hoping people are going to
2545s have fun playing with um
2548s it's going to be really cool to finally
2549s get this over and kind of Shuffle things
2552s around um
2554s and are these configurations going to be
2557s available with more than just Adobe at
2558s the moment they're just Adobe um because
2562s we are kind of in transitional phase of
2564s looking over uh there's been a lot of
2566s experimentations with the Adobe Block
2568s Set there's been a lot of technical
2570s changes in how the block sets are being
2572s created kind of like the production
2574s pipeline of from concept to techn Tech
2577s techically being set up
2582s um
2584s so it's definitely increasing the speed
2587s at which we can make
2590s them um it's also streamlining the
2592s process to kind of looking over what
2595s shapes we want for them what like what
2597s control capacity we want for them um and
2601s it's definitely going to be something
2602s that we're taking with us into reviewing
2604s and and redoing some of the old block
2606s sets uh to be more streamlined in terms
2609s of quality um the forms in them and kind
2612s of make them feel kind of nice fit in
2615s and kind of be more of a uniform thing
2617s across the board with the other
2620s ones he's very deterministic
2623s on doing things right
2627s now
2631s um um and and for anyone wondering yes
2634s we have two very very very vocal cats
2640s um but yeah it it's it's looking pretty
2643s nice um
2646s it's it's going to be crazy um I fore a
2650s lot of creative stuff going on with them
2652s um I can already Envision players
2654s building huts just like in ancient Egypt
2657s uh Egypt what uh what about chimney
2660s blocks chimney blocks is a bit of
2661s another can of worms um it'll probably
2666s be looked into in regards to utility and
2669s pipes and all of that in a later update

2674s um because we have some ideas on on we
2677s want to redo the general utilities a
2679s little bit we want the the a big goal
2684s would be to get things being
2688s pipeable
2690s um inside other block
2693s sets um but we'll see how how well that
2697s works technically how well that works
2699s for my user experience side of
2701s things
2706s um so you know stay tuned on that but
2709s it's probably going to be way later this
2710s year uh we have a few things on the
2712s agenda prior to that um a lot of content
2715s that's
2716s being um built kind of in in an orderly
2721s fashion to fit in with each other and
2723s kind of build up towards release as well
2728s um so yeah this is our big kind
2731s of going out and and seeing how well
2734s this works um for Block Set style and
2739s functionality wise and get a bit of
2740s feedback on if this works better than
2743s the existing kind of Auto build
2744s completion things and if we want to
2746s shift out all the blocks that's to be
2748s that um and kind of where we want to
2750s land with them so do give a lot of
2752s feedback on Discord and on the
2755s canny um
2759s to you know give us that feedback that
2762s we we like to see to be able to work
2764s with and adjust to fit more into what
2768s players expect out of us
2771s um but yeah that that you know probably
2774s what I had to say about the new block
2776s set
2780s um think I answered most of the
2783s questions related to it um
2787s will we be able to recycle blocks at all
2790s into anything yeah you'll
2794s on
2796s uh we got some recipes for 10.3 with
2800s some of the maintenance stuff so we
2801s might be able to sneak in some some
2803s crushing recipes or
2805s or shuffling around there but we do have
2808s an update dedicatedly planned for things
2811s like uh pollution improvements recycling
2814s uh garbage and and
2817s that kind of spectrum of the
2820s game um so that'll be more in towards
2823s more in towards updates reg regarding
2826s that update
2828s when uh once we're passed and through
2830s with
2831s 10.3 um so so far for anyone that is
2837s uh
2839s not super on to what's what we've been
2842s doing for the next
2844s update uh just like a general summary
2847s being uh the Adobe Block sets that is
2850s coming out with it we've got uh painting
2853s like actual block paintings um so you'll
2855s have a tool that you can interact with
2857s and you can paint blocks in different
2858s colors um it's working on on a on a
2861s wholesome RGB scale so you're not
2864s limited to certain quantity of colors
2866s it's going to be the whole
2869s Spectrum um that will be in its own
2871s stream hopefully the next one we'll see
2874s um
2875s I'll throw out some news about that and
2878s make a post about it um on a more
2881s definitive note um
2886s closer
2890s um maintenance last stream take a look
2893s at it if you
2895s haven't um Dynamite when who knows maybe
2899s maybe we can have some explosives
2901s eventually um we'll have a stream about
2904s that um later on as well
2908s um I kind of hope I was kind of hoping
2909s to have it in 10.3 but it might not fit
2912s in with the timetable we got a lot of
2914s things that we need to shuffle around
2916s we're also making a big Unity upgrade in
2919s it which is causing some Mayhem um
2922s there's a lot of a lot of changes in
2924s unity's apis that we need to kind of
2927s reconfigure things to work nicely
2929s with um the new Unity
2933s 2023 um it's a big leap because it's a
2936s double major Unity version
2939s upgrade um it gives us a little bit more
2941s technical leeway in optimization some
2944s new packages and a lot of cool gadgets
2947s that we can help make things look nicer
2950s while still performing better than they
2952s used to
2954s be
2957s um but yeah I I think that's majorly
2960s around kind of like block sets and and
2963s and that
2965s so um as an after effect of this things
2969s are going to get
2970s crazy um hasn't been mentioned yet but
2974s because we are uh so player experience
2978s is based
2979s on uh food balance food balance values
2983s food values in general but you also have
2986s the housing value part of it where you
2988s build rooms you build houses um you
2990s stack them with furniture furniture
2992s gives you
2995s points um just as a quick Angel Lord uh
2998s patterns no at the moment it's going to
3001s be just plain plain flat
3004s colors um we'll see if if we can do some
3008s texturing and things like that U later
3010s on but it's not going to be directly
3013s related to the painting
3016s itself um but more on that subject on on
3019s an actual painting
3023s stream um so with the tier change since
3026s everything is going to bump a tier and
3030s um housing in general is hard capped
3033s soft capped to the tier itself so you
3036s would have tier one to four which would
3039s add maximum value soft cap you have 20
3042s and then hard cap you
3044s at um 40 because tier 4 equal to 40
3053s uh it's going to be shifted up so you
3056s have the maximum tier is going to be
3058s tier five which means the soft cap is
3060s going to be 25 the hard cap is going to
3061s be
3062s 50 and this is going to shift over and
3065s result in some significant housing
3068s object value
3070s changes um so one of the things that I'm
3073s looking at for this is I want to make
3076s sure
3078s that uh when you're building a
3081s house and to avoid the whole issue of
3085s like skill Pedas for one as a a favorite
3089s term for
3091s it um is we have situations where you
3094s just cram in as much stuff as possible
3097s to kind of squeeze out the experience in
3099s that um and that's definitely something
3102s that we want to move away from we want
3103s to make sure that the rooms kind of have
3106s enough things to put into them in in
3110s kind of like what you would expect out
3111s of the
3113s room um and the supporting Furniture to
3116s kind of give you that boost so I want to
3117s me I want to be able to make sure that
3120s uh the general rooms
3123s reaches a set like you kind of hit this
3126s that soft cap with just the room
3128s furniture that goes into it like a
3130s living room has a
3131s fireplace
3134s uh uh let's do that so for example a hun
3139s hun Shack in this case um you turn it
3143s into need to claim it and I'd cause
3146s explosions if I CL claimed it let's just
3148s rip
3149s up rip up this
3156s thing let's give a claim
3160s tool we have we have that one in
3167s there there we go so we claim this and
3170s we have a residence set on it I
3175s believe uh
3179s yeah so here Mort
3185s fireplace Mort Mort the specific
3190s Stone so if we grab a mort fireplace for
3193s example and then we just throw some fuel
3195s in
3196s it um it gives us that living
3199s room and it gives us
3203s that uh
3207s there's some there's some wonky thing
3208s going on here um still shifting around
3211s objects and and values in detect Tre so
3215s ignore some random inconsistencies like
3218s yeah it's adding a lumber door that's
3220s why the tier Three is coming
3222s in uh so basically that that fireplace
3224s is just giving me 1.5
3227s value and if we're looking at ikipedia
3231s uh and we go housing objects and we're
3233s going to go into the living room you
3236s have can everything that goes into a
3237s living room here and I want to change
3240s out so you get a lot more points and
3242s bonuses for the different things and
3244s they scale up and better with the tiar
3246s so you don't
3248s have um you know the nylons the nylon
3251s couch coming in later in versus the the
3255s The Comfy Couch coming in mid tier and
3257s so on but you need six of them in a room
3261s to be able to max out the points from
3263s seating
3264s bonuses um
3267s and so on so forth
3270s and um I they kind of want to shuffle
3272s around the point so you're going to it's
3274s going to be easier to build fully kind
3277s of fully stuffed point-wise
3280s rooms um but it's going to be more
3284s distinctively upgradeable with each tier
3287s it's not going to be very SM like small
3289s bonuses in terms of how much more the
3292s furniture is going to give you it's
3293s going to be a noticeable
3295s difference um and you're going to mainly
3298s be able to reach that soft cap with
3300s General room furniture associated with
3302s it and then the support furniture and
3305s the support objects is just going to
3307s bump that up way
3310s higher and with one of the criteria for
3314s it is lighting is going to be a lot more
3317s impactful you're going to get a lot more
3319s value out of lighting sources because
3320s they are um fuel consuming in one way or
3324s another so I want to reshuffle them and
3327s be uh they'll give you a bit
3330s higher
3332s um benefit right now there's capped at
3335s 30% of the room value I'm probably going
3338s to bump them up to like
3341s 60% and then it's going to be a lot more
3344s pointwise
3346s um I'll probably drop out a few
3349s comparison notes in Dev hangout um
3354s during next week to give a more kind of
3356s appropriation for
3359s it uh hopefully we'll be able to place
3362s things like vases on top of things like
3363s table and so on um we we are looking
3367s into how we want to do that we have kind
3370s of a hacky way to do
3372s it um to kind of get things to count as
3375s Hard Solid Surfaces but it's not the
3378s most performant way of doing it um so we
3382s want
3383s to take a bit of time to kind of look
3385s over
3388s um how we want to more streamlined Do It
3392s um because there's a few objects that we
3395s kind of don't want to be placeable on
3397s top of versus like you know a share
3400s would be looking very really
3402s odd um grab like give a Hune
3408s chair uh H dresser it's going to be a
3412s little bit bulky to get into this room
3414s um but stuff like a hug dresser would
3417s make sense and look nice with a board
3420s you know table lamp or so on but it's
3423s going to look really oddly if you place
3425s a lamp and it's going to sit on top of
3427s the chair uh or clip in through the
3430s chair and so on so we're probably going
3431s to
3433s be uh it's going to be like top surface
3439s stuff um any new way on area house
3442s destruction instead of one by one block
3444s pickup uh not at the moment but we uh on
3448s on that subject of
3450s dynamite uh lamps need seating too feels
3454s bad um we were playing with the idea of
3457s of you know having some sort of bigger
3460s Force applied destructible so you know
3462s you're done with your house you don't
3464s care about the recycling you just want
3465s to demolish it um and then you know
3468s allow you to demolish stuff on your
3470s property in a more efficient
3472s manner um so
3474s yeah uh food for thought
3477s um if you have any input
3481s or you know ideas surrounding that you
3484s want
3485s that uh you want us to look
3489s over
3491s uh don't hesitate to do so um I think
3495s Dynamite would be a nice would be nice
3497s for vertical shafts yeah we're
3499s we're um it'll the whole explosive
3502s things is going to be its own stream um
3505s but it might not make it for 10. three
3506s were it it's depends a little bit on how
3510s well TimeWise it
3512s goes
3515s um seeing if I can find an
3519s image maybe maybe maybe some sneak
3522s peek do we have a sneak
3529s peek maybe maybe not
3537s I mean I have but but I also have some
3539s other stuff that in there that I don't
3541s want to show just yet um we can do

3563s and the um it's going to add the whole
3566s bunch of new outdoor
3569s furniture um and with it one of them was
3573s the Ticky torch that you saw there on
3575s top of the balcony on the
3578s house um which is one of the new
3581s things and we've got a slew of other
3585s objects and decorative things but we can
3588s do slash give
3591s Granite Terrace let's do this one just

3596s um so we have another fountain for
3599s you uh and it's a bunch of these things
3603s that are coming um so that's just a
3606s little a little treat in preparation for
3609s the next
3611s uh freaking hell he
3617s he's misch is cat um but yeah so either
3621s either it's going to be painting next
3622s stream or it's going to be The Outdoor
3625s Room and a more fledged out um housing
3629s balance kind of Statistics I'll show you
3631s what what actual changes are happening
3633s in terms of pointwise if people are
3634s interested in that
3637s um but yeah a lot of cool new decorative
3640s things
3642s um that are going into that new outdoor
3646s style room um which is going to be
3650s pretty big in terms of how much it's
3651s going to impact the surrounding systems
3653s and it's going to give you another
3655s another source for value Val of the
3658s properties um and just add more
3660s decorative things to give more life to
3662s the general environment around you um
3664s and it also gives you for the first time
3666s an actual reason to have stuff built
3671s outside your house which was really
3673s important for us to really give players
3675s that incentive to build things outside
3677s so you know more on that on that stream

12s to get involved a little bit into some
15s of the things that we're working on
16s towards
18s 10.3 now that we have 10.2 out of the
21s way um and and you know sounds like it's
25s hurdles but
27s it's yeah hang on give me a
32s I think just me being a bit

47s 10.3 now that we got 10.2 out um we have
51s a lot of exciting things that we talked
54s about a little bit
56s before yes it's a cat in the background

65s um hopefully they'll play nice they tend
69s to be rather active just around the time
72s for the streams so they can really
73s participate as
75s well um but yeah um 10.3 coming up um
81s we've talked a bit about maintenance in
82s the last Stream So if you haven't
84s watched that hop in on YouTube it should
86s be out there um and we're going to talk
90s about about the next kind of big big
92s impact field for uh the general player
97s experience and an area where we've we we
103s kind of skirted around but we've always
106s kind IED it and really wanted to redo
109s the general initial experience coming
111s into Eco so it's you know it's going to
114s be less impactful um in terms of the new
117s block set for older players that are
119s used to the game that are quick in the
121s start they kind of speed past that
123s initial threshold um but it's more in
128s the general focus towards players coming
131s into the game that are new to the game
133s entirely um they might be new to the
135s genre they might be new to just Eco um
138s and and its
139s peculiarities but we wanted to have a
143s more smoother transition in from you
145s start out in the world you you pop out
147s you you create your avatar and you kind
149s of get going you start collecting
151s resources and we've always felt
154s that the initial step from starting out
157s to now you have a house you can build a
159s store and you can start interacting with
161s people and you can start doing stuff has
163s always been kind of a big
165s step where we wanted it to be more of a
168s smoother
170s experience um
173s and the
175s um the main intent with this block set
178s Edition is to kind of Shuffle things
180s around in that early
183s sense um I'm just connecting to the
185s server right now so bear with me
188s here um but yeah so you know we there's
193s a couple of things that led to a new
195s Block Set being added rather than just
196s shuffling things around one of them is
200s we wanted uh masonry as well as we
203s wanted logging with its H logs and its
205s mortared Stone to actually be tied to
208s those professions we didn't want to have
210s them
212s um you know right now everyone can make
215s uh H logs and everyone can make Mort
217s Stone but there wasn't kind of a clear
218s this is this is where you kind of get
221s pushed into it's a bit of here do a
226s little bit of of Frankenstein building
229s use a bit of resources that you have
230s available to you but the issue with that
233s tended to be people one didn't really
237s realize that instead of you know making
240s H logs on a carpentry table as soon as
242s you've had some sort of structure which
244s allowed you to use the modules which
246s reduces
247s costs um and it also had the issue of
250s people didn't realize that they weren't
252s getting proper skill benefits and and
255s experience from making un logs as a
257s logger on a workbench rather than a
259s carpentry table so there's a lot of
261s confusion
262s for just in general getting into the
265s game um and it was something that we we
268s really wanted to kind kind to reduce
272s um and yeah we could just dump the cost
276s of that initial recipe but then you kind
278s of have that triple effect
280s of that profession's main export
283s material sudden get super cheap and you
285s needed to sell a gazillion of it to make
289s any kind of profit back on it
291s versus um the later TI where the where
294s you have hard limits on only you and
297s this profession can make it rather than
299s everyone can make it at leure just a bit
301s more
302s costly and they are they are marauding
305s now so we'll see how much the cats are
307s interceding in the background
310s here um but yeah so let's
315s just can Shuffle
319s around there we
321s go let me just pull up the shots

328s uh yeah
330s so this new block which is the
333s Adobe is intended to fill the role in
336s that early game so all the tiers have
339s been bumped up for the existing block
341s sets so H logs and mortared stone is
345s tier two Lumber um glass and bricks are
348s pushed up to tier three and so on so
349s forth so you're looking at tier one to
352s five now with the block
354s sets um
357s and I think we just do that we just
360s maximize
367s it so this is where and and what we're
372s looking at for the new block
374s set and we'll go over a few of the block
377s forms and kind of build something um
379s together here as well kind of revolving
382s over it um so one of the one of the
384s big uh the big changes with this block
387s set is that we're moving away
391s uh we're moving away from a lot of
393s Automation in terms of the block
396s Builder um so you have a lot more direct
400s building control for the block
403s pieces um and hopefully it's not going
406s to cause too much of an inconvenience
410s for people that you know may not be as
414s super into the building part of the game
416s but more of a general you know trading
419s around socializing or or doing whatnot
421s and they just want a quick house
424s um but it is a bit of an experiment from
427s the art team they've really gone crazy
429s in terms
431s of where how and and kind of how these
434s be how these pieces are kind of
436s attaching to each other um there are a
438s few things that are still you know this
440s is work in progress uh it's still being
443s polished and and kind of
444s tweaked um so there's a few things in
447s here that is might look a little little
450s bit wonky in terms of their connectivity
452s so kind of transition over out to the
454s wall
456s pieces um but yeah so this is how it's
458s looking when it's been placed and just
461s as a as an entity
464s thing uh we got Windows which are
467s embedded on the inside with some wood
470s pieces and we also have the interior
474s Roofing of
478s it um and
480s and we got some some new more crudely
484s looking ladder if I can manage to climb
487s up a ladder which is always a difficult
490s thing and then we have some other new
493s torches as well
502s coming um did you make the stack and the
504s Torches bigger having them only one
506s stack is is kind of no boy now um the
508s general like the the stack sizes and
510s limitations for a lot of the fuel types
512s is being looked
513s at um and it's a bit of a subject here
516s as well because I wanted I want to kind
518s of shift over um housing balance in
526s general this preview is great but I
528s think we need to discuss your start menu
530s being on the top of your
532s monitor uh yeah I've I've heard some
534s opinions on that

541s uh yes at the moment they're not set up
543s as as general fuel sources I can't unsee
546s that now um yeah well

560s uh the U cats are are causing Havoc um
564s so will it burn a lot of dirt well
566s that's kind of a subject for debate
570s um because I haven't entirely decided on
573s the crafting material for
575s it um as one of the things is I kind of
579s want to bake it into the the initial
581s starting like tool interaction
585s repairs
587s um and the repairability and and the
590s rabbit is not
591s making the hair is not making great
594s display of our animal pathing at the
596s moment
598s um but yeah so there's there's a couple
601s of kind of criterias I had for the
602s recipe for it and it's it's one I kind
605s of want it to involve clay um partially
609s because it is a good way to kind of
612s teach people about where materials can
613s be found if we tie it into the
616s tutorial
617s um so the the four kind of sourced
620s materials that I'm looking at is W like
624s plain
625s wood um clay or dirt and plant fiber say
630s General like grass matter
633s basically
635s um and then we got some some lighting
637s adjustment as
641s well there we go um but yeah so you know
645s there there's a couple of things here in
646s there that kind of makes it a bit
648s complicated in terms of recipe wise
652s um because you are looking at like the
656s desert for example where we don't have
658s Clay we only have dirt
660s and it's also lacking severely in logs
662s as well and from a general aerial zoning
668s perspective I'm not completely hating
671s the idea of and and I also had an
675s interesting map
676s here um I'm also not hating the idea
681s of making people kind of not initially
686s flock to the desert in the same way
690s but making it slightly more difficult to
693s settle in areas that are not
696s necessarily uh you know really that
702s habitable um yeah using using filler um
707s plant like matter filler yeah that's
708s probably what I was what I'll end up
713s doing uh the dwarfs can have the desert
715s we civilized natives start in Lush
717s forested regions
720s um yeah so you know it's it's part of a
724s since it's the the goal is to help out
726s and and make it easier to transition
728s into the game and get going quicker the
730s general notion is that you I want to
732s have resources related
734s to
736s um it
738s needing uh resources that are generally
741s acquired early on very quickly based on
744s just interacting with the world around
746s you so dirt tends to be a big thing
749s because you usually poke it around a lot
751s of dirt because you're terraforming
752s you're making roads and you're kind of
753s shuffling things
755s around
757s um and natural fibers as a tag is a
761s great idea because then people can just
763s as as Roto points out people can just
765s use pulp and fiber or or whichever
767s they're kind of collecting with it be it
769s you know plant fiber or wood pulp and so
773s on um but I also don't want the recipe
776s to be too complex because um um we don't
780s want to have like a starter block that
782s is more advanced in terms of ingredient
784s types than some of the later
788s tiers um which is also why human logs is
791s getting another
793s ingredient uh which I do not know if I
796s added it to the recipe in
802s here no did I add it on the carpentry
805s bench
810s my
816s tab no it's on it's on in my other Tory
820s um but yeah so the H logs is going to
823s get dow rods um as a new ingredient so
826s they'll you know they'll be
828s self-produced um it's just kind of like
831s a small step in um adding a bit in the
834s cost relation balance to
836s it um and it's also going to be a course
839s I kind of would scrap generation later
842s for another
844s update
846s um but yeah so with this initial block
849s being changed out we can do a whole
852s bunch of things one we can make it as
854s cheap as we want regardless of
857s professions which means we can have you
859s know you can build the general goal of
862s it is to be able to kind of join a
866s server uh you place down your tent your
869s your C website and whatnot and then you
872s just collect a bit of material around
873s you and you can of have your house and
876s your initial store within like the first
879s hour and a
881s half um instead
884s of having
887s to uh kind of trug along and just cut
891s down half a forest to be able to build a
892s little un house so you're more likely to
895s get more materials out of it to kind of
897s get get going quicker
903s um I'd only ask you create more than
906s just one block with a block of dirt and
907s clear yeah you you're you're looking at
909s like two or four blocks
915s per um it's it's going to be a fairly
918s quick recipe I'm trying to keep the
920s block crafting times a bit uniform
923s across it but it's going to be cheap
925s enough so it's going to feel like it's
926s really quick um it's also General kind
930s of trans like Transportation
933s into um research and and so on as well
937s because you're going to be looking at
939s this being like your initial research
941s Point um it's required for to house a
944s lot of the earlier tier
947s Machinery um so the goal is generally
949s just a smoother transition into the game
952s um and kind of get that feeling of hey
954s I'm making progress I'm getting stuff
956s done um and just you know
960s um just get people more engaged earlier
964s on um so I'm hoping it'll it'll make
969s that happen um it's been on the task to
972s get this block set in for quite a while
974s now but we're really really stoked to
976s finally have it in and think I'm going
978s to see if the Adobe door
980s works CU I was having some uh oh look at
984s that it it actually it actually got
987s placed on the right side but the uh
992s the interaction points of it is way up
994s there I think
995s so didn't really have time to to tweak
998s and make sure that that went in the way
1000s it's going in um but you get the um view
1003s on
1004s it um how about faster construction
1007s deconstruction animations and further
1009s reach when building with lower tier
1011s blocks um different reach based
1014s on tool is probably not going to happen
1020s um however we are looking
1023s at if we wanted to have
1027s some more sophisticated end end tier
1031s type
1032s Hammer
1035s interaction
1037s um that might be having longer reach or
1041s so
1042s on um so that's not an impossibility
1050s uh but yeah so here you got the Adobe
1052s door with with a little nice wooden
1054s fitting on
1056s it um ignore the no Collision because
1059s it's you know work in
1062s progress um and then as some of the
1064s people pointed out here we've got a
1068s wallmounted torch
1071s stand uh which works the same way as the
1075s painting if we do this we grab this and
1079s as you see here it is being placed
1082s midair but it works the same way as the
1084s enal painting frames is so it'll snap to
1087s whatever is in the
1089s background so it'll fit you know walls
1091s and and pokes and so on so
1098s forth uh would love to be able to pick
1101s up more than one block at the time yeah
1104s we're there there is some old stuff
1107s related to
1112s um to the notion of being able to put
1115s just grab multiple things like a
1117s backpack
1118s replacement is that allow that gives you
1121s more carry slots rather than backpack
1124s slots um so there's a few there's a few
1127s ideas that are rumaging around in terms
1129s of equipment that
1132s could um change some of this out a
1134s little
1135s bit um but that's still on kind of
1138s planning board and and seeing over what
1140s we want how far we want to take it and
1143s in in what capacity we want it in
1148s um so you know stay tuned for that it's
1151s a lot of fun things coming and it's a
1154s lot of crazy things we're working
1157s on um can we get that road slope shape
1160s block integrated into all of the
1162s building
1165s blocks
1167s um uh adite could
1170s you elaborate on that a little bit cuz
1173s I'm not really sure what
1175s we're you're talking about when you
1178s place like a a type a ramp and drag it
1181s along and you get all the ramps up to

1252s cats um you got your basic
1256s Cube which is plain all Cube and then
1259s you have your floor type which has that
1262s kind of walked in
1265s nudged um worn out feel to
1270s it and then we get to the crazy thing so
1272s as I was saying we
1274s are kind of moving away a little bit
1277s with this block set to be less
1281s automatic
1282s which hopefully goes well with a lot of
1285s people I think a lot of the the creative
1287s Builders really like to have more
1289s control over how their blocks are
1290s rotating back and forth and also
1292s rotating in maybe maybe a manner that we
1295s don't
1297s anticipate um so you are having all of
1301s these are manually rotatable things so
1304s they're not Auto snapping they will kind
1307s of meld in with some things that are of
1310s the same type so for example uh the the
1315s wall piece for example has that bent
1316s then Corner when it's standing alone but
1318s you can stack it and it Blends in and
1320s merges with uh identical things stacked
1323s on top of
1325s it but it does allow you to
1328s do this because it is completely Ro
1331s manually
1337s rotated uh so with that you have so this
1340s this is kind of building more towards
1342s what you saw with the docks uh with the
1345s dock block forms being added to for the
1347s h log set
1350s uh so you have some end pieces or some
1352s some solo pieces I should
1354s say um so these
1356s are kind of pillar
1359s is um they're rounded in both
1362s sides and then you have the actual end
1365s piece here that connects
1367s to the middle section that we
1372s had um and as you can see here you still
1376s have that sharp edge from that middle
1378s section but it does merge in top
1381s wordss uh based on the type it is so you
1384s know walls walls kind of flipping around
1387s and this is something that we are
1389s looking at kind of converting and
1390s redoing for some of the old block sets
1392s as well to give more direct
1396s control
1398s um with it because the the
1401s automatic kind of
1403s Builder um is really really complicated
1407s to set up and how it works with the
1410s block
1411s sets um and it's kind of a lot of
1415s overhead as well so it it is
1417s reducing significantly um on the
1420s workload side of
1423s things
1427s uh but on speaking of speaking of
1431s toggling
1433s option uh we do have a new a new little
1437s thing um in the middle of this this
1439s because I completely forgot that it's
1440s actually merged
1443s already uh we have this thing so this
1446s allows you to disable enable building
1450s those diagonal pieces from what you're
1452s looking
1456s at so when you're when you're just
1458s generally building and this is what's
1460s going to be the default option it's
1462s going to be disabled by default you you
1464s have to enable it if you want it um the
1467s reason for that is is the general goal
1470s of being a bit more
1472s simpler to build and a little less
1475s skidish
1478s um uh floating point for how the block
1482s is detecting where you kind of want to
1484s place
1485s it uh so by default that thing is
1488s disabled just to give you a little bit
1490s more
1491s control starting out kind of getting
1493s used to the system and then you can
1494s enable it if you want to go there
1496s because I know a lot of the a lot of the
1498s more quicker people on building likes
1501s that extra control to be able to place
1503s stuff diagonally straight away as
1505s well but it makes it makes this piece
1509s here being a little bit finicky
1512s on where you're mousing over and kind of
1514s where you want to place it um so instead
1518s we opted to make this into some more
1520s configs
1523s so um as you're getting to the side left
1527s and right it kind of sh it's kind of
1528s shuffles into those sides instead so
1532s hopefully giving you a little bit more
1534s control while still keeping it um
1538s keeping those Advanced controls
1539s available for people that do enjoy and
1543s um going to use them um I like them for
1546s for like stair buildings and and
1547s diagonal stuff
1550s but
1552s um it's a nice thing to have disabled
1554s unless you cannot opt to do that
1557s so just generally nice with more options
1561s um I
1564s think you got your your general wall
1566s pieces and then you have
1569s the uh and then you got T intersections
1571s you've got uh Crossroads for them or X
1575s intersections as well as the corner
1577s pieces um and they're you know they are
1580s working and looking pretty much what you
1583s expect out of
1585s them uh which just open-ended Corners to
1589s allow you to build walls in whichever
1591s direction you kind of want to do with
1596s them um and then we have the windows as
1599s you saw they
1601s have a different Outlook from the inside
1603s versus outside which is new as
1606s well so you have an external View and an
1609s internal view
1610s where uh dump some of these um where
1615s they're reinforced and having a
1616s different look completely from the
1617s inside versus out out which is something
1619s that hasn't really been done on any of
1621s the other block sets because it doesn't
1623s really make sense
1625s for
1628s um glass because glass panels are kind
1631s of same
1634s same um so it's a it's a little bit of a
1638s new
1638s feel neat little look on
1641s it um and then you have the fence blocks
1644s that you saw on the ground there as well
1646s as the top side
1649s and they follow the same kind of rules
1651s and restrictions as the other ones
1652s you've got the um you got the plain one
1655s which is open-ended on both sides you
1657s have the end piece here that is
1661s a kind of nudged over into an adobe
1665s bigger kind of end section you also have
1668s a middle section block which adds these
1670s in the stpe
1673s middle um and then you also have the
1675s intersection for
1677s them um and on the Adobe set now
1681s for this is we just build a little house
1684s here add then change out the
1689s line we do this just to kind of give us
1692s a little bit of a one uh yeah this will
1696s this is going to be your your tier one
1699s non-skilled starter
1705s block is this Toby art um this is
1709s actually um
1711s robs so it is one of the one of the
1714s other Australians in our completely
1717s Australian art
1719s team uh but no it's it's uh it's Robert
1722s he is mainly doing well he does most of
1727s our 2D assets um he does a whole bunch
1730s of uh 3D stuff as well and he's also the
1733s one doing the larger majority of all the
1736s concept art as well
1740s um and he's usually the one that that
1742s gets assigned with crazy Block Set
1744s changes and and things
1746s and absolutely phenomenal at it as
1751s well um so the
1754s roofs is I don't know maybe someone
1757s could you know Chuck in what
1760s um opinions and thoughts here um on
1764s General Roofing if you like being able
1767s to just have like a a flat
1769s that um automatic roof Builder as is on
1773s the other
1776s blocks um you like just the kind
1781s of square stuff so this is working
1784s similar to the ground things and and the
1787s Y walls you have very very a lot more
1790s rigid control over
1793s it
1795s um and you have
1798s same thing here like you have the
1799s intersections which is the flat one it's
1802s lighter on top um you have the T
1806s intersection so in this case if we do
1809s build a piece up here actually let's use
1812s the point one uh so we have that one and
1815s then we'll use the sides not matter
1818s which way you have them rotated they'll
1820s look the
1821s same externally and
1827s internally and the middle section is
1829s kind of intended for you to be able to
1830s do things like uh a more rigid beam over
1834s and cross over and we can add
1839s that we do that just have that external
1844s thing out
1849s there and then we can just have that
1851s corner piece
1853s there so the corner piece is as expected
1857s that's doing the angled 90°
1860s Turn versus
1862s that the end piece you have here which
1865s is a tile that just is that rounded it
1868s doesn't have kind of a continuation so
1870s that's neat for things where you want to
1873s have like a balcony externally upwards
1876s or uh like an external thing let
1879s me let me do one of those
1891s uh so for the middle filler we have the
1894s roof fill block
1896s type and that thing is a floating beam
1901s thing lack of a better word so this this
1905s thing matches up and lines up with all
1907s of the different variations of roof
1910s types and it's basically just a little
1913s kind of wood beam filled that connects
1916s up and it's a little bit thinner
1923s um and as I said like this block set
1926s gives you a lot more creative control
1929s than
1932s previously and I'm hoping that everyone
1935s is going to get a blast out of using
1937s these in completely completely unrelated
1940s ways that we weren't anticipating
1941s initially like I've seen some some I've
1943s seen some crazy use of the dock block
1946s sets um so that's been that's been a
1949s blast to see people using them in in
1951s mines or as Roofing or or General
1953s Flooring and and different elevations
1956s and
1957s whatnot um so I'm hoping people are
1959s going to have the same crazy crazy
1961s creativity flow with these as well um
1964s especially for decorations and and kind
1966s of external
1969s things
1972s um yeah there's the the full stacked
1975s placeable one
1981s uh these will be colorable too yeah
1984s everything and everything any anything
1986s and
1986s everything uh Mike has gotten all the
1990s tools kind of rigged up and sorted so
1993s now we're looking at interaction speeds
1995s and animation
1999s Cycles
2001s um so we might be able to do the
2004s painting stuff on the next stream we'll
2007s see maybe we're
2010s lucky uh no it's there's been a lot of
2014s improvements to that system and it it is
2017s getting fairly mature so we might be
2019s able to show that off next
2021s time um and the stairs is also getting
2023s the same kind

2037s uh of course you're just going to be
2039s able you're just going to see them yeah
2041s so the stairs is running into the same
2043s thing you have full kind of autonomous
2045s control over Direction
2048s facing um different angles of

2054s and said we're hoping to kind of move

2062s uh to some of these
2065s things uh people use that as cash
2069s decoration yeah I I like them they're
2071s they're they are very
2074s nice you got solo
2079s stairs and then you have middle Block in
2082s between them so that the difference
2083s there is you don't have there's supposed
2086s to be a difference in them they one of
2088s them yeah one of them merges and the
2089s other one doesn't merge so that thing
2091s stays separate as an entity

2117s go um so yeah some interesting block
2120s forms I'm hoping people are going to
2121s have fun playing with
2123s um it's going to be really cool to
2126s finally get this over and kind of
2127s Shuffle things around

2131s and are these configurations going to be
2133s available with more than just Adobe at
2135s the moment they're just Adobe um because
2138s we are kind of in transitional phase of
2141s looking over uh there's been a lot of
2143s experimentations with the Adobe Block
2145s Set there's been a lot of technical
2146s changes in how the block sets are being
2148s created kind of like the production
2150s pipeline of from concept to techn
2154s technically being set up um
2161s so it's definitely increasing the speed
2164s at which we can make
2166s them um it's also streamlining the
2169s process to kind of looking over what
2171s shapes we want for them what like what
2174s control capacity we want for them um and
2177s it's definitely going to be something
2178s that we're taking with us into reviewing
2181s and and redoing some of the old block
2183s sets uh to be more streamlined in terms
2185s of quality um the forms
2188s in them and kind of make them feel kind
2191s of nice fit in and kind of be more of a
2193s uniform thing across the board with the
2195s other
2197s ones he's very deterministic
2200s on doing things right
2204s now
2208s um um and and for anyone wondering yes
2210s we have two very very very vocal
2215s cats um but yeah it it's it's looking
2219s pretty nice um
2222s it's it's going to be crazy um I foree a
2226s lot of creative stuff going on with them
2229s um I can already Envision players
2231s building huts just like in ancient
2233s Egypt Egypt what uh what about chimney
2236s blocks chimney blocks is a bit of
2238s another can of
2240s worms um it'll probably be looked into
2243s in regards to utility and pipes and all
2246s of that in a later up update this year
2251s um because we have some ideas on on we
2254s want to redo the general utilities a
2256s little bit we want the the a big goal
2260s would be to get things being
2264s pipeable
2266s um inside other block
2269s sets um but we'll see how how well that
2273s works technically how well that works
2275s from my user experience side of things
2282s um so you know stay tuned on that but
2285s it's probably going to be way later this
2287s year uh we have a few things on the
2289s agenda prior to that um a lot of content
2292s that's
2293s being um built kind of in in an orderly
2298s fashion to fit in with each other and
2300s kind of build up towards release as
2304s well um so yeah this is our big kind of
2309s going out and and seeing how well this
2311s works um for Block Set style and
2315s functionality wise and get a bit of
2317s feedback on if this works better than
2320s the existing kind of Auto build
2321s completion things and if we want to
2323s shift out all the blockes to be that um
2326s and kind of where we want to land with
2327s them so do give a lot of feedback on
2330s Discord and on the
2332s cany
2334s um
2336s to you know give us us that feedback
2338s that we we like to see to be able to
2340s work with and adjust to fit more into
2344s what players expect out of us
2348s um but yeah that that you know probably
2351s what I had to say about the new block
2353s set
2357s um think I answered most of the
2359s questions related to it
2363s um will we be able to recycle blocks at
2366s all into anything yeah you'll
2371s on
2373s uh you got some recipes for 10.3 with
2376s some of the maintenance stuff so we
2378s might be able to sneak in some some
2380s crushing recipes or
2382s or shuffling around there but we do have
2384s an update dedicatedly planned for things
2388s like uh pollution improvements recycling
2391s uh garbage and and that kind of spectrum
2394s of the
2396s game uh um so that'll be more in towards
2400s more in towards updates reg regarding
2403s that update
2404s when uh once we're passed and through
2406s with
2408s 10.3 um so so far for anyone that is
2414s uh
2415s not super on to what's what we've been
2419s doing for the next
2421s update uh just like a general summary
2423s being uh the Adobe Block sets that is
2426s coming out with it we got uh painting
2429s like actual block paintings um so you'll
2432s have a tool that you can interact with
2433s and you can paint blocks in different
2435s colors um it's working on on a on a
2438s wholesome RGB scale so you're not
2440s limited to certain quantity of colors
2443s it's going to be the whole
2445s Spectrum um that'll be in its own stream
2448s hopefully the next one we'll see um
2452s I'll throw out some news about that and
2455s make a post about it um on on a more
2458s definitive note um

2467s um maintenance last stream take a look

2472s haven't um Dynamite when who knows maybe
2476s maybe we can have some explosives

2485s hope I was kind of hoping to have it in
2487s 10.3 but it might not fit in with the
2489s timetable we got a lot of things that we
2492s need to shuffle around we're also making
2493s a big Unity upgrade in it which is
2496s causing some Mayhem um there's a lot of
2499s a lot of changes in unity's apis that we
2502s need to kind of reconfigure things to
2504s work nicely
2506s with um the new Unity
2510s 2023 um it's a big leap because it's a
2513s double major Unity version
2516s upgrade um it gives us a little a little
2517s bit more technical leeway in
2520s optimization some new packages and a lot
2522s of cool gadgets that we can help make
2525s things look nicer while still performing
2528s better than they used to
2531s be
2533s um but yeah I I think that's majorly
2537s around kind of like block sets and and
2539s and that
2541s so um as an after effect of this things
2546s are going to get crazy
2548s um hasn't been mentioned yet but because
2551s we are uh so player experience is based
2556s on uh food balance food balance values
2559s food values in general but you also have
2562s the housing value part of it where you
2565s build rooms you build houses um you
2567s stack them with furniture furniture
2569s gives you
2571s points um just as a quick Angel Lord uh
2575s patterns no at the moment it's going to
2577s be just plain plain flat
2580s colors um we'll see if if we can do some
2584s texturing and things like that uh later
2587s on but it's not going to be directly
2589s related to the painting
2592s itself um but more on that subject on on
2596s an actual painting
2600s stream um so with the tier change since
2603s everything's going to bump a tier and um
2607s housing in general is hard capped soft
2610s capped to the tier itself so you would
2612s have tier one to four which would at
2616s maximum value soft cap you at 20 and
2619s then hard cap you
2621s at um 40 because tier 4 equal
2626s 240
2629s uh it's going to be shifted up so you
2633s have the maximum tier is going to be
2634s tier five which means the soft cap is
2636s going to be 25 the hard cap is going to
2638s be
2639s 50 and this is going to shift over and
2642s result in some significant housing
2645s object value
2646s changes um so one of the things that I'm
2650s looking at for this is I want to make
2653s sure
2655s that uh when you're building a
2658s house and to avoid the whole issue of
2661s like skill Pedas for one as a a favorite
2665s term for it
2668s um is we have situations where you just
2671s cram in as much stuff as possible to
2674s kind of squeeze out the experience in
2676s that um and that's definitely something
2678s that we want to move away from we want
2680s to make sure that the rooms kind of have
2683s enough things to put into them in in
2686s kind of like what you would expect out
2688s of the
2689s room um and the supporting Furniture to
2692s kind of give you that boost so I want to
2694s me I want to be able to make sure that
2697s uh uh the general rooms
2700s reaches a set like you kind of hit this
2703s that soft cap with just the room
2705s furniture that goes into it like a
2706s living room has a
2708s fireplace
2711s uh uh let's do that so for example a
2715s Hune hun Shack in this case um you turn
2719s it
2720s into need to claim it and I'd cause
2722s explosions if I claimed it let's just
2724s rip up
2727s rip up this
2732s thing let give a claim
2737s tool we have we have that one in
2744s there there we go so we claim this and
2747s we have our residence set on it I
2753s believe yeah
2757s so here uh Mort
2761s firl Mort Mort the specific
2767s Stone so if we grab a mort fireplace for
2769s example and then we just throw some fuel
2771s in
2772s it um it gives us that living
2775s room and it gives us
2780s that
2782s uh yeah there's some there's some wonky
2784s thing going on here um still shifting
2787s around objects and and values in detect
2791s Tre so ignore some random
2793s inconsistencies like yeah it's adding a
2795s lumber door that's why the tier Three is
2797s coming
2798s in uh so basically that that fireplace
2801s is just giving me 1.5
2804s value and if we're looking at
2807s eupedia uh and we go housing objects and
2810s we're going to go into the living room
2812s you have kind everything that goes into
2814s a living room here and I want to change
2817s out so you get a lot more points and
2819s bonuses for the different things and
2820s they scale up better with the tiers so
2823s you don't
2825s have um you know the nylons the nylon
2828s couch coming in later in versus the the
2832s The Comfy Couch coming in mid tier and
2834s so on but you need six of them in a room
2837s to be able to max out the points from
2840s seating
2841s bonuses
2843s um and so on so forth and
2848s um I they kind of want to shuffle around
2849s the point so you're going to it's going
2851s to be easier to build fully kind of
2853s fully stuffed point-wise
2856s rooms um but it's going to be more
2860s distinctively upgradeable with each
2863s tiers it's not going to be very SM like
2866s small bonuses in terms of how much more
2868s the furniture is going to give you it's
2870s going to be a noticeable
2872s difference um and you're going to mainly
2874s be able to reach that soft cap with
2876s General room Furniture associated with
2878s it and then the support furniture and
2881s the support objects is just going to
2884s bump that up way
2887s higher and with one of the criterias for
2891s it is lighting is going to be a lot more
2894s impactful you're going to get a lot more
2895s value out of lighting sources because
2897s they are um fuel consuming in one way or
2901s another so I want to reshuffle them and
2904s be uh they'll give you a bit higher
2909s um benefit right now they're capped at
2912s 30% of the room value I'm probably going
2915s to bump them up to like
2917s 60% and then it's going to be a lot more
2921s pointwise
2923s um I'll probably drop out a few
2926s comparison notes in Dev hangout um
2930s during next week to give a more kind of
2933s appropriation for
2935s it uh hopefully we'll be able to place
2938s things like vases on top of things like
2940s table and so on um we we are looking
2944s into how we want to do that we have kind
2947s of a hacky way to do
2948s it um to kind of get things to count as
2952s hard solid surfes but it's not the most
2955s performant way of doing it um so we want
2959s to take a bit of time to kind of look
2963s over um how we want to more more
2967s streamlined Do It um because there's a
2971s few objects that we kind of don't want
2972s to be placeable on top of versus like
2975s you know a share would be looking very
2978s really
2979s odd um grab like give a h
2985s chair uh dresser it's going to be a
2989s little bit bulky to get into this room
2991s um but stuff like a h dresser would make
2994s sense and look nice with a board you
2996s know table lamp or so on but it's gonna
3000s look really oddly if you place a lamp
3002s and it's gonna sit on top of the chair
3005s uh or cliping through the shair and so
3007s on so we're probably going to
3009s be uh it's going to be like top surface
3015s stuff um any new way on area house
3018s destruction instead of one by one block
3020s pickup uh not at the moment but we uh on
3024s on that subject of dynamite
3028s uh lamps need seating too feels
3030s bad um we were playing with the idea of
3034s of you know having some sort of bigger
3036s Force applied destructible so you know
3039s you're done with your house you don't
3040s care about the recycling you just want
3042s to demolish it um and then you know
3045s allow you to demolish stuff on your
3046s property in a more efficient
3048s manner um so
3051s yeah uh Food For Thought um if you have
3056s any input
3058s or you know ideas surrounding that you
3061s want
3062s that uh you want us to look
3065s over
3068s um don't hesitate to do so um I think
3071s Dynamite would be a nice would be nice
3073s for vertical shafts yeah we
3076s we're um it'll the whole explosive
3078s things is going to be its own stream um
3081s but it might not make it for 10.3 where
3084s it it's depends a little bit on how well

3177s uh and it's a bunch of these things that
3180s are coming um that's just a little a
3184s little treat in preparation for the next

3198s either it's going to be painting next
3199s stream or it's going to be The Outdoor
3201s Room and a more fledged out um housing
3206s balance can of statistics I'll show you
3208s what what actual changes are happening
3210s in terms of pointwise if people are
3211s interested in that
3214s um but yeah a lot of cool new decorative
3217s things
3218s um that are going into that new outdoor
3223s style room um which is going to be
3226s pretty big in terms of how much it's
3228s going to impact the surrounding systems
3230s and it's going to give you another
3231s another source for value of the
3234s properties um and just add more
3236s decorative things to give more life to
3238s the general environment around you um
3241s and it also gives you for the first time
3243s an actual reason to have stuff built
3248s outside your house which was really
3249s important for us to really give players
3252s that incentive to build things outside
3254s so you know more on that on that stream
