Hey new to Eco, been playing on a two star server and am just shocked that this game isn’t streamed more. Like the Game of Thrones-y machinations of power hungry people is wild. Corrupt governments and/or server admins, lots to do as a community. I’ve been a. Big fan of rust but am terrible at FPS, and this has been just fantastic.

Are there any channels that go over like ECO stories/drama? I feel like they must pop up all the time. Or does anyone have any wild server stories to share.

I jumped in naively expecting to build a boat and go visit where people were building. Just to see what the game had to offer for crafting and design… I met a neighbor who told me he got scared off from another town, fell into a town that put the Cult in Culture, and found myself giving tours to people we “kidnapped” and driving the Booze cruise each night driving the boat while the town played a round of quiplash in discord.

The fact that it takes 3-4 weeks to complete each cycle with hours and hours of tedious busywork seems counter intuitive to streaming, and most of the drama's are about prices. Since I'm here though I'll tell you about the drama that finally drove me out of the [MODERATED] server.

I used to play in [MODERATED], a server that's more than 60 cycles and 4 years going strong. After 3 years and 3000 hours of bouncing from server to server and collecting players in my discord we stumbled onto [MODERATED]. A large, stable, promising looking server hosted in the EU that slowly drifted away from Vanil-ish to fairly modded.

Any time I played, I would start a city and encourage shops to take my personal credit so we could start with a semi functional economy pre establishing a Mint. There were some small drawbacks, mainly establishing trust, but otherwise it was a solid system that greatly benefits anyone who used it and had the unfortunate side effect of excluding anyone who didn't from the economy because after a large enough group of people join in, it becomes harder and harder to justify using barter or other credit systems.

The server owner considered it an exploit for the sole reason that it could render the mint pointless. Despite adopting the mint and switching to a currency every single cycle, the owner refused to budge and would only argue in a circular fashion, spending more time bitching people out for the way they argued rather than the merits of the argument. I ignored it for many cycles. In the off cycles when I didn't play and create a credit system, the players would complain about how painful the barter system was.

Many ideas and feedback channel threads were created discussing the issue. The owner and his followers would complain about it, I and anyone who actually participated in the experiment would defend it, eventually [MODERATED] of SLG Staff weighed in on the defense side and I'd never felt more vindicated. Months later the owner created a [MODERATED] mod that banned others from changing their shop to someone else's personal credit, decried my economic system an exploit yet again, and I left the server entirely.

Edit: I've removed the names per the request but I stand by what I said, and I have no interest in going back to that server
