[2020] Should it run on mac - white screen issue, for friend

A friend of mine wants to play with me, she got the game installed on her mac (2013 Retina macbook pro with Intel Iris graphics) The game launches successfully, but the screen in white. She can however enter settings and such, but screen is just white other than that. She can see a little tree and she can hear sounds, but other than that it is just all white, except for the menu that opens on escape.

We found a steam community solution to this problem on windows saying to update VC++ distribution, but we cant find if VC++ is available for mac?

Is anyone here successfully playing on mac, and has anyone encountered these issues?

We found older posts saying that "the game is no longer officially supported on mac, but should run"
