There is no way to do that in the game. Maybe there is a mod that can do it, but i don't know any.

Is there a reason there is no way to reset skills? I'd even be fine with it resulting in a full ownership/character wipe or whatever.

As it is at the moment if you pick a poor specialisation, or if a key person on a server leaves during mid - end game, the amount of time required to start to respecialise is ridiculous. On the order of actual real life weeks. Why in the world would I bother with that and not just go to a new server?

The skills need a serious overhaul so they are all equally valuable or a respec system needs to be implemented in some fashion.

This option was there, has been reworked several times and has ultimately been removed as none of the implementations did stop people abusing it to just respec mid-game, altering the whole economy or even do all of the market themselves by just switching professions. This happened even with the harshest limitations and players that can earn more XP faster by playing more always had the edge on respeccing as well, just adding to the groups issue on top with 5 people playing a lot and being able to respec more often. We hence have no plans to introduce that again.

What we might introduce is the option to refund your first star as long as you haven't played for more than two hours and didn't take a second star yet in regards to the new player problem. A full reset of the whole character might also be an option but would have several problems that need to be solved, like what happens with your property and what is on it - if it's just unclaimed, you could run there and claim it again. If it's just deleted altogether, it's an issue for economy. Saving it as a fake user noone has access to is currently not possible in the game and even then you could get it back easily by usage of governmental features.

Eco is about playing with human people. We have hence confirmed many times there won't be NPCs of any kind in Eco, as that would defy the whole idea of the game.

even ark survival has respec potion

i know decisions and talents should be permanent in lots games but this is not vialable from player standpoints

Patches can change mechanics , you got optimal build , patch hits 3 weeks later and now other perk is better then yours , "and nothing you can do"

other example is you specialisecialised for solo play , person leaves the server making your talents close to useless

3rd example , you pick talent and it supposingly not works "the way you thinked it works"(currently hosting a second local server will messup your server options so that might be out of question for you to test if perk works on the machines you would want it to work)
When things in the skill-tree change, typically everyone is offered a single free respec in most MMOs, that would work. In Eco timeframe is also limited, so it might not even be big of an issue.

Nontheless, you need to keep in mind that consistency and continuity in players professions in Eco is a majorly important part of the gameplay. You are not supposed to 'just fill someone that left' by converting your own skills, because if you can do that, you can also do that mid-game to gain economical advantage.

The part of something not working as you'd expect is obviously an issue with the game not explaining that well enough, but that'll be tackled.

Together with the upcoming rework of the skill system we will introduce a respec possibility for server admins that will be available to all servers in a first step. There is also plans for a player-based respec system that will be very limited and comes later. It's planned to allow you a respec of your first star, as long as you haven't played for a specific time yet and did not yet receive a second star. Additionally there will be configuration options for server admins to allow respecs going beyond that, but they will be extremely limited and / or disabled by default to ensure economic stability.

The goal of respeccing will be to allow new players a change of choice if they feel their first choice wasn't fun (or for others to respec if they see their profession is not in best need) and to make it easier to respec into a different profession in late game, when people with specific professions left. An option to respec because of too many people have chosen a spec is not planned.

That is something we will definitely not do, as the laws are not supposed to deal with game mechanical elements like skill resets. Any configuration will be up to the server administrator.

No, it was once there, but has been removed as it was mostly used for exploiting, which had severe negative effects on server economies.
