Apart from the high level stuff like exhaustion, specialisation, ping etc; For me, it’s:

  • Being 1 or 2 days old, up to 5 if there is an additional star for late starters
  • The basic QoL mods like Big Shovel
  • That there is a discord server
  • Admins that play
  • A goal of somekind
  • Smaller worlds
  • No skill books

Things that put me off: * Pre-made governments * Global Currency * Allowing Duos / Trios to share land / tables etc * Mods that auto pickup Logs and Ore

What about everyone else?

That one mod/config some servers have that combine the final levels of mining are my jam. Both of the traits are really good, and make sense to combine

They are supposed to be combined - by two different players :D

When I look for a server to play privately on my non-marked account I look mostly for:

  • World size chosen according to the player count, e.g. neither too small nor too large
  • No typical "QoL" mods and at least High Collaboration (but again taking player count into account), as most of those mods tend to break the intended game balance horribly in ways that just arent fun to me and how I play
  • Global Currency, as I am team "Bartering is meh"

Premade government and restrictions is neutral to me, but I generally prefer playing on servers where admins are creative and have made custom concepts beyond base Eco and as such tend to play on one with some degree of premade government given its necessary for that. I don't mind restrictions if they make a clear game experience, and variety in game experiences is what I'm looking for.

I prefer, but that doesn't play major role:

  • Fair admins and clearly communicated rules
  • Fresh start or some retroactive XP gain (which is now a config)
  • Many players, but as long as world size is fitting, smaller servers work just as well
  • Grouping allowed when groups play responsible (Otherwise my friends don't play, which is why I don't play on White Tiger myself lol)
  • Actively talking community interested in conflicts AND their resolvment
  • Servers that are helpful to newbies and where people come together to help them, so I can help out there
  • Encouraged aesthetic building (which I can't do, but love seeing and paying people for)
  • Encouraged mentality of openness, e.g. towns cooperating, not locking down
  • Efforts for tech leapfrogging while keeping economy for research
