4s another Friday stream here we're finally
8s we're back in motion a bit
10s of a delay here with last week's
14s add some ideas for last week's stream
15s but um
18s unfortunately
19s kind of ran out of time working on
21s everything else that
23s hard at fixing for this play test so
27s worry about that
29s but here we are we have a good content
32s stream for 10.0 and
36s anyone that hasn't seen me before my

48s to both reveal and also can I go over
50s and get some feedback

60s so I think we can
62s kind of kick off right away
65s um unfortunately the stream title
68s is a bit misleading sorry about that

73s but we are going to be talking about
76s some balance changes that coming up and
79s with that some new crafting tables a new
82s intermediary items as well as what we're
84s doing to kind of even out the balance
87s particularly early game with cloth that
90s has been a a large problem for us both
94s from a playing perspective but also from
96s a balanced perspective where
99s plant fiber is a very abundant material
102s it uses very little fertilizer you have
104s it basically globally so that's a large
107s chunk of what I wanted to address with
110s some of the changes that we've done to
111s it
113s which has also eloped into also doing
117s some slight changes to our approach
119s towards cotton as well to be able to
122s match it well with the new crop
125s um
126s see I think we can just kind of take it
129s away first to uh some of the more
133s scratch Booky things and some oversight
136s into what we have done
139s with it
141s if I switch over here to one of my raw i
145s o scratch sheets

150s um you can probably tell from the get-go

167s what do we have here we've got the three
170s kind of paths that we are looking for
173s what leads up to the fabric tag
177s and yes we'll we'll have some gameplay
179s footage here as well to kind of show off
180s at least the crafting station
182s unfortunately the icons were not
185s completely plugged in yet so
188s um those will be have those will be
190s something that you're gonna have to kind
191s of look forward to see
193s when you get into the play test

197s but starting from a plant as with both
201s the cotton as well as the flax and the
204s petroleum and the nylon path is a bit
205s different because of the oil usage so
209s I don't think that needs
211s playing a lot of because it is more
214s expensive in regards to both pollution
216s impact
218s um but I do want to touch on the economy
220s of that one a little bit during the play
222s test so
223s I'll look forward to some of the numbers
225s that's coming out of that
227s um as well as kind of how it behaves on
228s tiger
229s um as well as any other feedback I can
231s get from players that do run servers
233s that will opt into the play test once
236s it's live
239s um going from the start here we've got a
241s plant coming in from the left we got the
243s output product coming out from the right
244s the purple is indicating of a step
249s processing as well as the profession
251s accompany it
254s so from the top here we've got this new
256s LAX plant that you harvest and you get
260s flag stems from
262s and to some Chagrin or some of the
265s players I've seen commenting on Discord
268s um it is a bit of a simplified step to
270s it there's a lot more in between
272s both prior to the sketching itself but
275s also post to kind of deal with some of
277s the the debris and
280s um and the water elements are processing
282s for it so that's kind of some of the
284s steps that would skipped to make it more
286s of a
288s both in line with the rest of the
290s Fabrics that we have but also kind of
293s make it more player friendly versus
296s going super realistic with it
300s so we've got black stem that you acquire
302s from harvesting the plant
305s and you now have two kind of paths and
308s this is where we're diverting from what
311s we had previously that a lot of players
313s recognize with the cotton where you
315s would process the cotton from a farmer's
317s perspective
319s and
321s you would get both the cotton lint as
324s well as the cotton seeds private prior
327s to the cotton lint acquisition it was
329s the cotton thread so you all you always
330s had that you gained the goods as well as
334s the seeds and then the seeds turned into
336s a massive pile of garbage that you just
338s stacked up on high
340s and we'll come up on that in a bit here
342s as well
344s as we have some New Paths for that as
346s well
347s um so now you have a choice whether you
350s want to add more plants and propagate
352s the plants more versus if you want the
355s material that you use for linen and
357s fabric and kind of process it into a
361s tailored Goods regardless of what type
364s it is which means that you're not going
365s to be gaining both seeds and
368s um
369s the sale option for it you're gonna be
372s choosing between one or another and
375s one of the things that this has
377s introduced is that Gathering is now an
380s actual mandatory step to a skill
382s acquisition early on
385s because you're not gonna get any linen
387s you're not going to get any cotton
390s without having to get the respect up and
393s skilled in gathering to be able to
395s process it further
396s the farmer still does the seeds which
399s you'll need to keep expanding your farm
401s field
402s but also for using for the seed produce
407s um
408s and then it kind of goes into your
410s what you've seen before where you have
412s tailor table pushing out linen yarn or
415s cotton thread and then processing into
417s the loom we turn it into fabric off
421s different types
424s so how is this fundamentally different
427s from before well as I said Gathering
429s being its own unique
431s kind of deal where previously you've
433s never really had a use for it in terms
435s of hard restrictions and Gates or
437s progression
439s that has changed the loom to make fabric
443s of any type uses yarn so you're gonna
446s need both a gather and a tailor buy
449s goods from as a carpenter to be able to
451s produce the machinery for the tailor
457s um and
459s you kind of give a if I have it here
462s somewhere
464s working things around
467s so this is comparatively
471s um what it used to look like
474s so you had the plant fibers that anyone
476s could Harvest you pushed it into a
477s tailoring table with tailoring and
479s output cloth and fabric which meant
481s anything that uses a fabric tag would be
484s able to skip any of these other steps
487s so that's kind of where we wanted to
489s factor in and get a good kind of rework
492s where we wanted Gathering to have more
495s of a meaningful impact early on
498s um both as a gate and just as a useful
500s profession
505s and
506s that led into
509s I was looking around kind of what type
511s of plants would make sense to change out
513s cloth because I didn't want to have
515s plant fiber I wanted to replace it and
518s it hit me that we could use the most
521s primordial resource that mankind has
523s used for
525s early age
526s as a cloth material and that was flax
529s Flex bin turned into linen for
532s uh basically forever
535s and
538s here which over to I think if anyone has
542s any questions I know
544s they'll have had something about new
547s crops
551s um more just general more crop
553s variations is is something that we're
556s kind of looking at but we also want to
557s make sure that we have a meaningful a
560s variety path for them so
562s things like root trees and so on are
565s something that we're looking at but we
567s also want to have a more
569s smooth development process for adding
572s more of these and make them useful in in
574s a lot of senses
578s um
579s I think we we add
581s we add them as
584s as we're comfortable with adding them
585s and making sure that they have a valid
587s place in the game when they get added as
589s well just so
591s they don't just get shot there and then
593s and you never look at them or you never
594s use them or they're just added for
596s decoration and that's the only use
599s um
600s Mr Chong from a Taylor perspective
603s what's the difference between cotton and
604s flax it seems very similar in terms of
606s fabric yes
608s so at the current iteration of how
610s plants work innately
613s cotton has the benefit of being
616s re-harvestable if that makes sense
619s where a plant won't die similar to
622s tomatoes papayas pineapples and and
625s those kind of reoccurring harvestable
627s plants
629s which is also something that we will
630s address in the future
632s I have some plans with some
634s experimentations into plant withering
636s and plant like Everlasting plant age
639s life and kind of recycling the
641s environment
643s um
644s that's going to be way down the line so
645s I'll I'll come back on that subject once
648s we reach that point
649s but for 10. you have a fundamental
654s difference in regards to the output
656s usage of produce
659s so cotton seeds is I've added a recipe
663s for turning it into food oil
667s that has been tested on tiger I know a
669s lot of people recognize that so that's
672s making it into the vanilla based game
673s now
675s which means you do have that option of
678s turning the coffin into seeds to be able
680s to process it into food
683s there will be a similar recipe for the
686s flax as well
687s however the flax seed oil is going to be
692s its unique
693s having its unique properties
696s or
698s um
699s Lumber Construction
702s so flax seeds will be able to be
704s processed into their own flaxseed oil
705s which will be its unique oil type it'll
708s have a new oil tag which is what's being
712s replaced for all of the recipes that
714s uses oil
716s um as an item before with like the fatty
719s food oil
720s they're now using
722s the oil tag and
725s that'll be
727s shared with the flaxseed oil however the
730s flax seed oil in itself is also
733s proprietary resource to be used in
736s Lumber Manufacturing
739s um
741s and something that I do want to touch on
742s in the future is things like changing
744s out to be more of a dynamic growth timer
746s between farming fields and habitability
749s so that will make a larger impact on it
752s but for now you're looking at flaxseed
755s oil which will be required for lumber
757s which is another source of progression
758s so you're always going to need to keep
761s farming linen or keep forming Flex I
764s should say
767s um and the farmer still has high
769s business for the flax seeds because
771s they're used in manufacturing
774s and
775s the
776s um the tailor and The Gatherer will have
779s repeat business from the different types
782s of fabrics because they're also being
783s added in some of the modules as well

790s and play mode just to it loads in
793s properly
795s so that's kind of where we're looking at
797s with the fabric route and the seats and
801s all that
804s waiting for it to compile and do that so
806s this is something that also is a bit
809s new for me on the stream I usually use a

819s have less less potential conflicts due
822s to the editor it can have a bit of a
827s feisty mood

850s flax in particular to be processed into

981s another piece of decoration that you can
984s use and of course this is going to be
986s now see the ball in pots and or the
991s at the moment just like the the bigger
993s clay pots we are looking at some
994s solutions for
997s going on and doing like the whole waste
999s thing but it is a bit of a tricky
1004s workaround that needs to be done to kind
1006s of make them work and they might also be
1008s limited to certain species
1010s but on the on the subject of flowers
1014s kind of distracting here

1017s as
1019s Angel mentioned here with the oil paints
1023s I've we have the um we've got the handle
1027s camera that you've seen before
1029s um
1031s we are we've got the tripod camera which
1034s I believe
1036s was shown off at some point
1038s correct me if I'm wrong
1040s um it has been changed from a a handheld
1044s tool to a world object that you deploy
1049s so it's looking like this
1052s for anyone that hasn't seen it yet
1055s and this thing adds uh vignette overlay
1060s and you can add and use all these cool
1062s features to do like time shots
1066s formats and some of the other
1067s interactions
1069s so these use a new type of resource
1072s which is a camera film
1075s to be able to be used as ammunition if
1077s you will for each Dot and it uses paper
1081s and it uses light bulbs
1084s for now
1086s probably looking into doing some changes
1090s to that recipe further down the line
1093s once we're kind of getting into more
1096s variations with a few other workstations
1100s um and of course you've got the camera
1102s that you've probably seen as well hope
1105s hopefully it was on the stream with Toby
1109s and Geo
1110s we've done some Polish towards it
1122s did you guys fix this doctor effect
1126s our skipping frames usually usually the
1129s unity problem having a 60hz monitor and
1131s capping the 30fps will make
1134s asking
1136s um
1137s that is a very good question I think
1139s it's
1141s I don't know is it being weirdly
1143s depicted
1149s let me know if it's stuttering or
1151s causing any other issues
1153s um
1154s I haven't really streamed with unity
1156s since I got my new graphic card so
1159s I'm not sure

1168s um so the camera so why why am I jabbing
1171s about camera

1176s oh yeah it does seem like it's
1178s dropping it in 30 FPS
1181s um the brown patches that's coming up in
1183s the ground or the green ones they are
1186s propping up because I leveled the
1188s terrain using a command that
1190s overrides the third type with grassland
1194s grass
1195s so over time it'll convert into jungle
1198s grass
1199s which is what's being replaced
1201s texture-wise for these patches
1205s um so
1207s why am I jamming about cameras well we
1210s have a third one that's being worked on
1212s right now
1213s and
1214s it is the easel
1217s um as for the world object interaction
1219s for the tripod camera
1222s um there is some
1224s some investigations into that but
1227s at the moment it's just locked through
1229s the axis unfortunately
1234s so
1236s um the easel has been a bit of a
1240s controversial object
1243s in regards to what you guys are
1246s expecting out of it
1248s versus what we are comfortable with
1251s doing
1253s um in terms of like free reign
1256s creativity for
1258s just the general World things
1261s um
1263s but what we've decided to do
1267s um at least 410 we'll see if we revise
1272s it in the future
1273s it currently is still a bit in progress
1276s so it doesn't have its proper mechanics
1279s hooked up so and I'm broadly going over
1282s it is that it'll work kind of the
1285s similar way as a camera
1287s so you interact with the easel and it'll
1290s kind of give you the same nudge as the
1292s tripod camera where it sets you into a
1295s position to take
1297s a frame of the environment that you're
1300s looking at
1301s and then it'll paint that picture in the
1305s same way the photograph works
1307s but it'll add it as a an oil painted
1311s layer Shader on top of it so
1314s for the the people the dabble in media
1317s and art
1319s um it'll work similar to how the how
1322s Photoshop adds a
1325s animal oil painting
1329s Distortion of the image
1332s so you can take like nice scenery views
1334s and it'll look like an oil painting
1336s instead of just a photograph
1339s and the that thing then uses a
1343s completely different type of resource
1345s because it wouldn't make sense if this
1346s one was using paper and light bulbs as
1348s well
1349s so we added oil paints as an
1351s intermediary resource
1353s which is acquired
1355s or rather
1358s Earth bench so inside the workbench for
1361s now
1362s we have art supplies and like I
1366s mentioned before the the icons aren't
1367s completely plugged in yet so we have
1369s these placeholder ones for now so you
1372s have art supplies
1373s that is generated
1376s by and these are combinable by anyone
1380s but they are crafted using canvas
1383s and by using oil paints
1386s and following down the route of the oil
1389s paints they are made by the Miller at a
1393s mill at the moment
1395s and they are using colored powder
1399s and flaxseed oil so this is once again
1401s bringing Flags into a more Universal
1404s approach where it can be used in more
1407s intermediary ingredients and just have a
1410s more Universal use rather than just this
1412s one off
1414s um
1415s piece and that's kind of something we
1416s want to keep incorporating with more of
1419s the ingredients as we move on
1422s so colored powders is acquired from the
1425s mill as well
1427s and it is
1430s grab a mill actually
1433s grab a mill so the Miller is going to be
1435s busy for people that want to do some of
1437s these things
1439s um
1441s and we have colored powder which is made
1444s by petals
1446s and petal being a tag right now and you
1449s can see some of the ingredients for it
1451s and we'll go on the flowers as well
1454s and here you also have the flaxseed oil
1456s which is the flax seeds
1459s and the oil paints which is used which
1462s is using that flaxseed and colored
1464s powder
1468s really looking forward to seeing some
1470s more Universal use for some of these
1472s strictly food professions to kind of
1474s give them in
1475s get them more involved as has been a
1478s really high request from a lot of people
1484s the colored powders is made from these
1487s flowers and
1489s that is bringing us back into the plants
1492s region so something that have been
1494s requested for quite a while
1497s but has never really just been
1501s realized due to
1505s um
1506s any number of reasons really
1508s we have added
1511s seeds to the orchids
1514s so now that you harvest orchids
1520s you can turn them into beets
1525s kind of similar as any of the other crop
1527s related things so now you can actually
1531s arm plants and the general flowers and
1535s have an actual solid use for them so now
1537s you can have massive fields of orchids
1540s if you want in the jungle regions and
1543s some of the hotter climate
1547s um
1550s as Lord Zach here think there's I think
1553s there was already an orchid seed but no
1555s recipe recipe to make them there was a
1558s seed in the game that you could acquire
1560s from
1562s harvesting the plant but the plant was
1564s never an individual item because it only
1566s generated grass plant fiber
1569s so there was no there was never an
1572s individual plant
1575s um item unique to that crop
1580s um and we have three
1583s flowers that are related to this
1585s we have the creosote flower which is
1588s acquirable inside the desert we've got
1591s the Orchid in the jungle and then we got
1593s the Trillium that is a bit scattered in
1595s grassland than the forests
1598s so that is kind of tying in some more
1601s use there
1603s and we're constantly gonna eyeballing
1606s and seeing where where we can get these
1609s ingredients involved in other areas as
1610s well
1612s um that's something that
1615s looked forward to as we're constantly
1617s just keep upgrading and keep looking at
1619s what we can add where it makes sense and
1624s just be more enjoyable and and fill out
1626s the game more
1628s um
1629s both in both in the early stages but
1631s also kind of moving up into middle area
1633s and the late game
1637s um the big blue stem is unfortunately
1640s still just a fan fiber
1644s I've been looking over some of these
1646s things I do want to add
1649s a more flowery uses and a more flower
1651s Acquisitions from some of these like the
1653s the
1656s um what are these called

1670s for so these still acquire just plant

1674s and it is going to be something that
1675s we're progressively just adding more of

1690s interactables into the world I want to
1692s add some for the um
1695s the Ocean Spray as well
1697s that's currently only yielding plant
1699s fiber still
1700s but it's only these three particular
1702s flowers
1705s hopefully
1707s it shouldn't be
1710s that or off to be able to start
1713s adding a bit here and there same thing
1715s for the Button Bush
1717s um an Airborne just like a general use
1719s so a large variety of the plants inside
1722s the ecosystem has a use somehow
1728s and that's kind of part of on my plate
1730s to work around and kind of see what we
1732s want to do in into what extent we want
1734s usable as well
1739s um so with
1742s or uh or so the plants and the new
1745s flowers are acquired
1749s they're harvested in the same way you
1750s can turn them either into colored powder
1752s or you can turn them into seeds
1755s and farm them in a bigger field that'll
1756s be more it'll be interesting to see if
1760s there is gonna be any use for it so I'm
1761s looking forward to getting some feedback

2038s use modules to upgrade

2044s more of them so you're not getting as
2046s much of a buildup of that byproduct

2055s another another little secret I wasn't
2057s wasn't planning on going into much on it

2061s we can probably

2068s so yeah um Zach not only are gatherers
2071s getting their own crafting table but
2072s they even have their own module

2132s we're really turning it hard to make
2134s sure that we do meet that I'm really
2138s hoping that we managed to make sure that

2152s bigger interaction fixes to make it
2155s properly playable
2157s which is also introducing a new

2174s this thing I don't want to go into too
2176s much of a detail
2179s um as this is a fairly new
2180s implementation for me I haven't worked

2192s as he was looking at the cultural parts
2195s and how culture and the paintings and
2198s kind of alleviating some of the pains
2200s for selling these objects and things
2203s like adding a whole bunch of different
2204s paintings in the stores how are you
2206s going to be able to tell which paintings
2207s which is it just going to pull one from
2210s the inventory
2212s um so to kind of mitigate that a bit but
2214s also help
2216s build more of a realistic furniture shop

2228s the goal here is that
2231s you can set up an object and have it for

2235s and then you set the price and you set

2254s so here you can see that you now have
2258s a choice to actually buy stuff in the
2261s world when you're interacting with them

2277s authorization levels are working and so

2286s you go outside here for example
2295s Just for kicks apparently we don't even

2952s counting roads so

2957s it is possible to just add in there and
2959s give it a road value and it'll be
2961s counted as a road if you want to do that
2963s locally yourself
2968s but at the moment they're just basically
2970s working kind of like the the composite
2972s and the ash floor type of just for
2974s slotted slopes

2980s wonder I wonder since that is actually

2984s my asphalt ramp white Edge line next
2988s since that's working this might actually
2990s be working as well
2991s so this is something that I think a lot
2993s of people are also going to be stoked

3082s another solid object in that regard

3203s three and a half
3205s and I'm a process of manufacturing
3208s pipeline when it comes to updates we
3210s have our development branch which is
3211s where we're doing wildly experimental
3214s things that are expected to be
3217s non-playable because things are being
3219s kind of prototyped together and put in
3223s and then just like panicly seeing if
3225s they're if they're valuable if they make
3227s sense if they're fun to play with and so
3229s and so forth once we're happy with the
3231s contents of an update we merge it down
3233s to the staging branch which is where all
3235s the Polish is happening and then on
3239s stable versions of the staging Branch
3241s where things are working mostly As
3244s intended
3246s in a state where they won't cause
3248s explosions when you're just playing the
3250s game normally we take snapshots of that
3253s and push it to latest branch and the
3255s playtest branch is therefore a lot more
3257s stable but can still cause problems
3261s once the staging is polished to a state
3263s where we're happy and it's really rigid
3266s and stable we'll push it down into
3268s release branch and then that's where the
3271s kind of final polishing QA passes are
3273s done
3275s and then once everyone is happy to get
3276s pushed out and actually released
3279s um so just because someone mentions that
3281s it's on the release Branch doesn't
3282s necessarily mean that it is actually
3284s released live to the public in that
3291s hopefully that helped clarify any
3294s questions

3491s a player limit app and a Q on it

3497s just to make sure that it doesn't
3499s constantly just go down due to being
3501s bombarded by people trying to log in on
3503s it

3509s setting up the avatar clothes with the
3511s ability to use any even before entering
3513s the server does that not break the
3514s income of the tailor
3516s uh who will buy his clothing if you can
3518s customize your image in advance so
3521s um the clothing that you will you're
3522s able to customize in the Avatar creation
3525s screen is limited to a set of starting
3528s clothes similar to the character
3531s creation worked priorly
3533s up to I believe at this point
3537s um we still haven't added that
3539s limitation in which clothing are
3542s available to
3544s be taken
3546s um but you are going to be locked to
3548s your like basic set of clothes plus
3552s um
3554s the uh like the backer decoration stuff
3560s which is I believe
3562s at the moment we have them in here so
3564s through your Void storage
3569s um you've got the alpha backer rewards
3571s as well as the wolf whisper if you have
3573s Walt whisper
3577s um if I know correctly using a lot of
3579s laws can cause issues with server
3581s stability and lag are there any changes
3582s to 10.03 oh that's handled
3585s um there's there's been a continuous
3588s just refactor and upgrade to that system
3590s and how it's handling a lot of that
3593s structure
3595s um
3597s is there going to be a concern for how
3600s that potentially can impact a server
3602s absolutely which is something that we're
3604s we're really making sure that we're
3606s looking at we're also very appreciative
3608s for any
3609s any servers that do want to and any
3612s players on those servers that do want to
3614s help out with taking memory snapshots
3616s and sending them our way to allow us to
3620s kind of debug and go through profiling
3622s and checking the memory usage
3625s um
3627s just going to optimize it further
3628s because it is very difficult for while
3631s we still have a decent staff
3634s it's hard to account for all of the
3636s different types of Hardware limitations
3638s people have as well as just the general
3640s Hardware combinations that they have so
3643s they might experience
3644s different types of issues depending on
3647s what they have in their rigs as well as
3649s what the server Hardware is at
3652s um
3653s but it is
3656s um at the current state of loss in line
3658s in in pre-10
3661s you also had the issue of all the laws
3664s constantly went over all the players of
3668s the server versus
3669s the regionalized laws that only impact
3672s specific in Civic people so a lot that
3677s would be scanning for say paying someone
3681s um like a universal basic income or a
3684s Ubi
3687s um
3688s where if this is happening inside a town
3691s it only needs to scan for the valid
3693s people inside then registered to that
3695s town so it would only be going on say
3697s you know 10 15 20 people rather than the
3701s entire population of the server
3704s so there's a lot of
3706s kind of granulation in how laws are
3709s being processed in the different towns
3712s versus something that is globally
3714s applying for things like a larger
3717s Federation in this case or as the old
3720s Global loss did
3723s but it is something that we are
3725s monitoring constantly and
3727s um as I said if you have issues on the
3731s servers that you are running this to and
3735s um
3737s wanted to help out don't hesitate to
3739s reach out to
3741s um
3742s to me and I can forward you to our Tech
3746s staff or to Dennis and he can pass it on
3749s as well
3750s preferably deal with Dennis since he's
3752s mostly active on the community managing
3754s side
