It's the 4th day since I've been in contact with frontier tech support who is trying their best to help me but all efforts have been unsuccessful. As far as my basic knowledge ends, I don't know what to do next.

But from the beginning. I haven't played in a while so I installed the game via steam. But Legacy (3.8) is installed in the ED launcher. When I want to update to the live version (4.0) I keep getting a file download error:

I asked my friend to share the /0f/ folder with me. I downloaded it and replaced the files. The launcher then stated that they were correct and started to download the next folder /0e/ and here the same error popped up.

I suspect this is a problem between the connection between the launcher and the servers (or my ISP?). Something must be blocking the data transfer so the launcher can't download the files and I keep getting an error.

Actions I tried:

  • I checked the integrity of the Steam files.
  • I reinstalled the game again. (I also deleted the entire Elite Dangerous folder from the Steam folder to be sure that everything was uninstalled.)
  • I disabled multi-threaded downloading and restarted my computer.
  • I turned off the cache check and restarted the computer.
  • Cleared Windows cached download files
  • I disabled Windows Defender (I don't have another anti-virus).
  • Disabled firewall
  • Did sync files in Elite Dangerous Launcher for version 3.8
  • Reset Windows network configurations in CMD
  • Deleted Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and website data in internet options
