[2023] Help playing in VR

I used to play on Xbox but recently got a PC and converted my profile. This gave me a regular "non-steam" etc version of the game. I now just got a VR headset that runs using Steam VR. Can somebody explain gow to get Elite to run in VR? Ive tried for hours and watched numerous videos with no luck. I keep seeing the phrase "launch in vr mode" or "launch with steam vr" but i have no idea what those phrases mean or how to do that. Elite is not in my steam library and i don't have the option to launch ANYTHING in vr mode in steam. The only thing i see is the big green play button next to things like there always has been.

I bought the VR to play mainly iRacing, which also i have separate from steam so figuring out how to run elite will presumably help me there as well. The only thing I've been able to "play" in my vr is SteamVR and all i did was looked at Google Earth.

My setup is a Ryzen 7700x and a Radeon 7900XTX and the headset is the DPVR E4. Everthing is plugged in correctly and runs, i just don't know how to play a game that isn't some stupid vr demo in the steamvr app.
